  • Undesired bullet pointed text automatically upon creating a new text box

    Hi there! Due to the snow I'm working from home today but I have a little problem back in work that would be nice to get some help on before i go back hopefully tomorrow so i can continue at full speed!
    I'm using Mac OS X (can't remember which version from the top of my head but something quite new!), and InDesign CS3. Basically, every time i create a new text box, or place an excel file into the document (having to do a lot of that at the moment, creating a price guide), it is in bullet point form, and although it's quite easy to go and turn it back off, with me having to do this quite a lot it's getting somewhat frustrating. It does it every single time i create a new text box even if i have turned it off for the previous one
    I'm pretty sure this is going to be one of those "oh, you just need to..." problems with a really simple answer...i hope so anyway!
    Cheers dears!
    Linz

    Thanks guys, i now seem to have a related problem at home. Here i am using CS2 but working on the same document as at work. I have made sure nothing is selected and set my character and paragraph styles to basic, and hey presto, when i create a text box, all is well. However, when i create a table, and i type in a cell, the bullets return! I have just discovered that turning them off in CS2 doesn't seem to be as simple as CS3 - so firstly - how do i do that?! And secondly - any ideas why it is happening but only in tables?!

  • How do you create aligned interactive text boxs in a PDF with the same width and height?

    how do you create aligned interactive text boxs in a PDF with the same width and height?
    Without free hand creating the sizing?

    Assuming by "interactive text boxes" you mean form fields; in Acrobat, make a form field, then copy it and paste. (GIve the pasted copy a different name so they don't genetate the same field feedback.) Now you have two fields of the exact same size. Shift-click or marquee-drag to select both, then right-click and choose a command from the Align, Distribute or Center menu.

  • Create a linked text box

    I'm working with the iBooks Publishing with iBooks Author and trying to do the tutorial for creating a new layout and running into trouble. I'm trying to do the linked text boxes it says to do. The book says when I create the first text box I should select it and then a little blue arrow will show up on the right edge near the bottom. But no such arrow shows up. Anyone have an idea of what I'm missing? Thanks.

  • Problem with bullets in text boxes

    Hi,
    I haven't seen this problem written up anywhere but I am
    having problems with my text formatting differently in text boxes
    when I've used bullets in the text. I am using Captivate 2.
    So here's what happens:
    If the text caption has a bullet
    anywhere in the body, when I publish my captivate course, the text
    looks like normal 12 pt Arial.
    If there is a text box without any bullets, the text looks
    like it was bolded.
    The next result is that I have two types of body text
    throughout my course.
    I went into every slide and verified that there is no other
    text formatting going on and I did find that Impact was sometimes
    in the same text boxes where I had bullets but I finally got rid of
    all the impact. However, the problem remains. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks,
    Lin

    Hi Lin and welcome to our community
    My guess here is that you are using the Transparent caption
    type. When you do this, the caption anti-aliases the text inside
    and many claim it looks either bold or fuzzy. You have two options.
    1. Use Bullets on all captions. Don't worry, you don't have
    to actually SEE the bullets. Just press Enter a few times and apply
    bullets to one of the blank lines. Then size the caption so the
    bullet part is hidden from view.
    2. Implement a trick discovered by fellow Adobe Community
    Expert Paul Dewhurst. You can see his trick by

    Hopefully one of these works for you... Rick

  • How to create pop-up text boxes?

    Hello,
    Does anyone know if it's possible to make pop-up text boxes/windows in iBook Author? For instance, I can click on a text on the layout and a window pop-up with another text, in my case, they're references/citations. If this isn't possible in iBook Author, is there work-around for this, preferably, in iBook Author itself instead of creating widgets/imagest for every instance of the references. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Hoa

    The glossary offers this capability. However, using it for that purpose might be a bit confusing, especially if you also have "real" glossary entries.
    I'm not aware of any other way to create a pop-up.

  • IDCS2- How do I create lines in text boxes?

    I am working on a fill-in keepsake book that has many pages of prompts followed by journal lines. i.e. "The best part of the trip was____" and "People we met___" etc. I know there is a way to create the text box so the lines fill-in around the text and look nice and even, but can't seem to find it in the help or manual. Anyone know? Thanks!

    Have you tried Right align tabs with underline applied?

  • Why I don't succeed to create two connected text boxes?

    In iBooks Author I tried to create a text box connected to another pre-existent text box in the same page. First I clicked the text box, then I selected Format > text box but the option "add linked text box" was unselectable!
    (in this image the text is in italian :S)

    The first text box needs to be made into a hyperlink before you can select it from the second one.

  • Is there a way to create a scrolling text box on my desktop?

    When I watch the news, or ESPN, they always have a scrolling box that gives breaking news or updated scores.  I would like that for my desktop, but I want to type what goes in it.  I want the box to constantly be on top of anything I'm working on.
    I thought this would be easy to find, but all of my research has been fruitless.
    Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Custom themes: How do I create & edit an auto-text box?

    Hello
    Continuing my exploration of custom themes
    I have now found out how to make text boxes editable (control-command-option-T, that was carefully hidden!) and am now struggling with creating and editing 'auto text' boxes (not sure what their real name is in Keynote-speak)
    1) Creating new text boxes:
    Let's take a simple theme like White. One of the Masters is Title + Bullets Left. Now let's assume I want to create two text boxes with bulllets - the existing on the left and another on the right. In PowerPoint it's pretty simple: highly text box; copy; paste; move & resize as needed. Well Keynote won't let me Copy so that's out. If I create a fresh Text box, I can mimick the indent levels, bullets, font attributes, etc. (long and painful) but it still won't work because it is not a placeholder text box (fixed size) but a regular text box (size depends on content).
    I'm sure I'm missing a trick!
    2) Edit auto-text boxes
    Again, take any theme, say White again; If I choose a Master with a set text placement, say Photo Vertical, there is very little I can do with it: I can change text attributes and box size, but I can't touch the number of indentation levels for example. Then again what defines a text box as been 'double click here to edit' from a regular placeholder?
    Overall I think I'm missing a whole editing 'avenue' regarding masters - Anyone care to guide me?
    Thanks!

    You can set a text field to be multi-line and tick off the option to scroll
    long text to have it automatically wrap, but you'll have a problem with the
    first partial line, since form fields can only be rectangular. Another
    problem might be the lines themselves, since you'll have to use a font size
    that will fit them exactly, or it will look odd. I would suggest getting
    rid of those lines altogether. They are not needed when filling in the form
    electronically. It's a relic from printed out forms where people had to
    hand-write their answers.

  • Creating a text box for someone to type in to.

    Please can someone direct me... I need to create a simple
    text box within a flash movie, which will allow the web user to
    type information into. The information does not need to be sent
    anywhere (i.e. is just for their own use), we just require the user
    to them be able to print out the page, with the text box contents.
    many thanks

    use INPUT as text type instead of STATIC

  • InDesign CC crashes when creating a text box

    My InDesign CC 2014 keeps crashing when I try and create a new text box and type in it. I don't understand why. Help please!

    Could be. Try Remove minor corruption by exporting
    Could also be a bad font, but that's less likely unless you are using fonts you don't normally use.

  • Displaying the result of a calculation in a dynamic text box

    Hi folks,
    I'm having a very minor issue here (operator error, I'm sure ). With the help of some folks here, I've created a series of calculations, and I've got that part down. Now, I just need it to show up in the movie.
    I've created the dynamic text box in Flash (CS3), but when I hit test, it won't show up.
    After all the calculations, I should have a figure that I call totalmoney. My dynamic text box is called total. The user doesn't need to hit anything for it to appear. It just appears as part of the movie.
    Here's my code:
    stop();
    var startDate:Date = new Date(2010,0,12);  // use your  startyear, startmonth, startdate in the new Date() parameters.
    var  currentDate:Date = new Date();  // assuming user's clock is correct and in your  timezone.  else use server date/time.
    var numberOfSeconds:Number =  (currentDate.getTime()-startDate.getTime())/1000;
    var interest:Number =  (numberOfSeconds*0.74356);
    var totalmoney:Number =  (interest+15,000,000);
    function displaytotal(evt:TextEvent):void {
         total.text = "totalmoney";
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Napo

    You didn't have to bury any of the calculations in the function--leaving it as you had it is better.  They could remain where they a=werew, and you'll probably find you want them outside it if you have other plans for using them.  If left inside, they only have scope inside.  In the programming world, it's good to think of functions as things that do one thing and one thing only (though it isn't often practiced that way)--it's called modular design.
    When you place an event as an argument for a function, it typically means that there is an event listener that initiates the call to the function.  If you work with buttons you'll see what I mean.  But if the plan is to create your own call to a function when you desire it as such, not have it driven by an event listener, then you don't need to pass any event to it, though you may pass some other type of variable to it if need be.
    For instance, what you have now will call the function without an argument because the function has the value built into its code....
    displaytotal();
    But you could also make the function a little more generic and set it up to recieve the value instead as an argument...
    function displaytotal(amt:Number):void {
         total.text = String(amt); // an earlier error of mine
    displaytotal(totalmoney);
    That would make your function a little more useful.  Now it could be used to display other Number variables as well.
    // my earlier error was that a textfield displays text, so you need to convert the Number value to s String.
    Hope I'm not confusing you.

  • Text box alignment problem

    Every time I create a new text box in an exsiting file, the text in a text box moves. the text alighment button is pressed EG: align to top of text box, Middle or bottom. but everytime I move the text box, the text will then move with in it. I turned off all text wraps and ticked suppress any text wrap in hidden layers (even when this is not ticked) nothing changes, The text still moves around inside the box. I am quite sure that this is not suppose to happen, especially if I ticked for  it to be align in the centre of the text box.
    Can someone help me please.

    Thank you so much. It's been bugging me for ages.
