Creating DVD from iMovie in Premiere Elements 10

I've created an imovie (.mov file) of about 9 minutes only to find no DVD feature is pn my new mac to burn it to disc.  I found on this forum idvd is no longer supplied.
I already have PE10 for Mac so tried to use that.  It keeps hanging when it gets to 5% burn and is telling me .wmv files are preferred?   How can that be?
Any ideas?
Veronica

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Newby problem - creating dvd from .wmv file

First - thank everyone/anyone in advance for helping me. Second - is there a basic video how-to somewhere to help me learn Premiere Elements? I am finding this program very hard to figure out on my own.
Here's the current problem - I created a slideshow with an audio track (a little music video) in Photoshop Elements 7, a .wmv file that I successfully uploaded to YouTube.  The file is 50k KB, under 5 minutes.
Copied the wmv file to a DVD.  When my Sony HDMI CD/DVD player said it couldn't play the disc, decided to try something else.
Imported the wmv file into Premiere Elements 7. Gave up trying to figure out how to create a title card, menu, etc, and since the video is just how I want it anyway, saved the file and tried burning it to disc.
Put in a Verbatim Lightscribe DVD+R disc, 4.7 GB, and prepared to burn from PE7.  The program said that the disc status was not blank - which it is, so I burnt to a folder on my hard drive instead - 4.7GB, according to the choice I made from the program.  From the folder, I burned the Video_ts file to the disc.  It still doesn't play in my DVD player.
I have reformatted the DVD to start fresh and make sure it is blank, but PE7 continues to read it as not blank.  Tried putting in a fresh disc newly opened, but the computer seems to format it automatically and still claims it is not blank.  Regardless, it is blank.
What am I doing wrong and how can I properly burn this little video to a DVD?  Just trying to show my grandmother the video.
Am working on HP HDX Premium laptop with Vista.
Thanks for any advice.  I'm in and out so may not respond promptly.

There is so much to be looked at in Photoshop Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 7, used as standalone or intergrated.
I like to look at the Help PDF under the Help Menu of each and follow through from "Getting Started" and onward.
When you create a slideshow in Photoshop Elements 7, the preferred route to the DVD-VIDEO generated by Premiere Elements 7 is via Photoshop Elements 7 Slideshow Editor Output Option "Send To Premiere Elements". Once the slideshow (in a video form) arrives on the Premiere Elements Timeline, you then have an opportunity for further edits (if you want to) using the "Break Apart Adobe Photoshop Elements Slideshow" Command (right click video on Timeline and select that command).
In Premiere Elements 7, you can burn your slideshow to disc (DVD-VIDEO Format on DVD disc). It is important to remember that the player has to support the disc type as well as the format on that disc. Try using a different brand type and/or disc type like DVD-R and see how you do. If you burn to folder, you burn just the VIDEO_TS (all files) housed in the saved folder, using a Burn Video Images category in the 3rd party burn software such as Nero, Record Now. Do not use Make Data Disc, a common mistake. The "playable disc" category mentioned in an earlier thread is sort of a functional name rather than the category name you will find in most of these 3rd party burn softwares. If you need a step by step for Nero or Record Now, I will supply that on request.
But, you have a .wmv version of your slideshow that you want to get into DVD-VIDEO format on a DVD disc for playback on the TV.
    This is my suggestion:
In Premiere Elements 7, after import to Timeline, Create Menus...
    Share/Disc/Disc
Preset: NTSC Standard or Widescreen or PAL equivalent, depending on your location
check mark next to "Fit Content to Available Space"
Disc Type: DVD-R (never used before disc, out of the box)
    OR
In a software such as Nero, Record Now
Use Burn Video Files to DVD category to burn the VIDEO_TS folder to a DVD-R disc
    OR
Use ImgBurn software (free download software which I find extremely "strange", but it works http://www.imgburn.com/)
Follow instructions for burning the VIDEO_TS to a DVD-R disc

  • How do I edit clips in iMovie (or Premiere Elements 10)?

I am new to Mac. Used to have no problem at all editing and converting movies on my PC. Have both iMovie and Adobe Premiere Elements 10 on my new Mac. Even as a borderline PC geek, I can't seem to figure how to clip and edit and merge videos on my Mac. Guessing I will have questions about saving to a new DVD as well when I get that far. Trying to condense dozens of DVDs with old family home movies down to a single DVD by selecting 'best of clips.' Grateful for any assistance.

    Hi Jeni,
I am not familiar with Windows Movie Maker, so I lack any frame of reference (no pun inteneded) to judge what you may be doing wrong. Both iMovie and Premiere Elements (PE) are designed so that the normal work flow is trim the clip the way you want, then put the clip in the timeline of your movie. In either you can work other ways, but the layout and tools in these programs are pretty much geared for that type of workflow. I use both by the way, although I am fairly new to Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and have not used iMovie all that much. In PE for example, you can double click the clip you want to use and that opens the clip viewer. You slide the pointers at the beginning and end of the clip viewer time line to set what are called "in and out points" and drag the clip into your time line or onto the scene line depending on which PE editing mode you are using. When you eventually export the movie using the Share panel, the program exports the entire timeline, which should be the series of trimmed clips, unless you check the box to tell it to only export the marked part of the timeline (I forget the title on the check box and don't have the program running in front of me). But in either case, each clip in your movie or portion of a movie should be trimmed according to the in and out points you previously set.
iMovie works on a similar concept, except you drag your mouse pointer over a clip in an event to adjust the yellow rectangle to mark the part of the clip you want to use, then drag that clip into you project. In either program there are ways of trimming and cropping clips in the timeline/sceneline/project and automatically adjusting the rest to compensate, but in any case, I'm not sure why you would be losing the edits.

  • Burn a dvd from iMovie on brand new 2014 imac

I just became an imac user after 29 years of owning pc's. I record video for school functions and have always used ADOBE Premiere to produce and author dvd's. I made the jump to an imac after windows xp was no longer supported, adobe is going to cloud subscriptions and after hearing how much easier working with video was with an imac. Well.....you know what's coming....and why I took the time to jump into a forum: I figured out iMovie very quickly and transcoding to an mp4. I have a Superdrive because I was told it can read and burn dvd's and mayb even blue ray. But holy cow....is there truly no way to make a dvd from iMovie?! Really?! Or from that matter to burn a dvd from this imac? I have gone nearly blind reading through the communities and forums. I have made 3 dvd's that won't play in a Sony dvd player that plays everything I can throw at it except the dvd's from this imac. Good thing I still have my PC, maybe I should just get Windows 8 and bite the Adobe bullet. Any other suggestions? I am more saavy than the average user, which always heightens the frustration level when a simple task takes all day to reach no appropriate resolution. I don't need a lot of detail, just tell me where I made the wrong turn.
P.S. I just went to the "tags" to post this....and funny thing....there must be 50 dvd tags, but none even resembling dvd burning or dvd authoring. Is there somthing going on that I need to know about....with dvd burning on imacs or Apple in general?

  • How do you burn a dvd from imovie if computer does not have idvd anymore?

How can I burn a dvd from imovie if this computer does not have idvd? is there anything in mountain lion that will allow this simple task to be completed.'
When i try to finish a project in iphoto it wont even do that...can anyone help?

    Buy iDVD.
Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/idvd.html
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.  (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)

  • Build a menu from scratch in Premiere Elements?

Is there a way to build a menu from scratch in Premiere Elements, i.e. not use the templates?  I want a very simple menu on ONE screen, no sub-menus, etc., and all the templates I try end up creating multiple pages of menus just for the FOUR menu markers in my timeline!
Alternatively, how do I delete multiple pages of a menu, when I have only FOUR menu items and want them all on ONE menu page?
Thank you very much for your help.

    robertme
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
You cannot create your own movie menu from scratch using Premiere Elements. The movie menu theme traces back to a main menu psd file and a scene menu psd file and assets. It is the .psd files that need to be created in Photoshop CS or higher because of the essential Layer Sets within the Layers Palette of the .psd file. (There may be other .psd editors that can do this if the can handle Layer Sets and SubLayer Sets, but Photoshop CS or higher will do the job.)
It is often easier to customize the Adobe existing themes at the .psd level than to create them from scratch. Success in this task depends of strict adherence to naming and structural details for creating these menus.
I have done and written a lot about this topic. If interested, please see

  • How do I burn a DVD from IMovie?

I have created a project in IMovie 08 and would like to save it to a DVD that can, in turn, be played on a computer or TV.  However, there is no obvious way to burn a DVD from IMovie.  How do I do this?

    Hi
You start by saying - I have created a project in IMovie 08 -
But then say that You don't have iDVD ?
If You got iMovie 08 then this was delivered with iDVD - so by finding this on hard disk or DVDs and then install it on the New Mac - DIRECTLY THEN - Update (do not try it first - will mess things up) by using Program-Up-date under Apple menu. to iDVD v. 7.1.2 - and all will be well.
Only brand new Macs delivered with iMovie'11 v. 9.0.4/6 - will be delivered without iDVD.

  • What is the best way to make a DVD from iMovie

What is the best way to make a DVD from iMovie?
    I am using iMovie 06 (Naturally) with iDVD 08. I have always used;
iMovie 06, File > Share to iDVD 08. And got pretty good results.
Some say the best way is to quit iMovie 06, open iDVD and import the movie from the Media button.
I have tried both methods in the results look the same. I'm interested in getting the very best quality possible.

You likely have one of the most expensive media converter boxes on the market today.
But does it work well with most macs? (my guess is that it does). But more specifically can it "handshake" with an intel based mac? I personally haven't tried it.
But you may want to read this for yourself if you haven't already:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1179361&tstart=2362
Assuming it works then the best format is .dv which this unit will support apparently.

  • I'm not very techy, so be gentle! i am using midvd app to burn home movies to dvd from iMovie '11 version 9.0.9. It now burns the dvd but there is nothing on the disc. its not recognised by the iMac or any other dvd player.

I was using midvd app(i never had idvd) to make home movies on dvd from imovie '11 version 9.0.9 with no problems before xmas 2013. ive just tried to make a new one today and it wont work.
It seems to burn to the dvd (you can see a mark on the back of the dvd as if it has some info on it) but it wont play on imac (just says blank disc) or any other dvd player.
I have tried reinstalling midvd app and also tried 2 other dvd creator apps and the same thing happens the app says its burning and the external superdrive whirs like its doing something but it wont play.
The only thing i have done since xmas is all the updates to the operationg system and updated imovie (i didnt like the new version so went back to using the previous one)
Any ideas - i am new to all things mac!

When you export your movie from iMovie, are you choosing H.264? That is the only compression method supported by this miDVD. Youc an give this a try first:
Use Share > Export to Quicktime > Movie to Quicktime Movie > choose Options and then make your choices in Settings, etc (you can choose whatever size your video is - mine was 720 HD at that time):
If that does not work, I'd suggest going to their support site as they claim to be able to burn to DVD.... I just checked their site and here is their list of supported file types:
