Creating Excel Files From Java Please Help I am Lost

I am doing a project in jbuilder an using a mysql db on a remote server what i want to do is to generate reports in ms excel after executing a query for example if I search for students aged 20+ I want to generate an excel sheet with all the records ....
Does anyone knows how to do that or is there a good tutorial on the web that explains this issue

Spooling the data in a comma "," delimited file is actually a good option. I have used this a couple of times and works like a charm. Spoooling the file is easy because it is a normal text file. Do remember to name the file as <something>.csv - files with this extension is linked to Excel in Windows.

I saw an example while searching in google about importing jxl.*. Could you direct me how I can import this package as java does not have it. I heard that jxl is much easier that POI although I am not new to both of them.

Create an excel file from java

I am using Jakarta's POI to create an excel file from MySql. The POI works well when a samll amount of data was written from MySql (created .xls file less than 3500KB). The problem is when a large amount of data need to be written to an excel file, java.lang.OutOfMemoryError Exception in thread "main" appears. In my project, I really need to have a large amount of data to be wriiten ton excel file. Do somebody has good solution for it?

What about using some text files like csv
(comma-separated value) file? It is plain text but
Excel (and other spreadsheet programs) will be able to
read it.
But then there will be no formatting and bells and
whistles. It was just an idea.Excel will also read HTML <TABLE>'s, with full formatting. There are some extra tags for numeric formatting, also. Just create an HTML table, and save to a file with .xls extension, e.g.:

Problem in Creating excel file from internal table

Hi Experts,
            here iam having a proble with creating an excel file from an internal table which is having around 15 records, when iam generating an excel file, its getting only upto 255 chars, after that its breaking and new record is being started in the next row. how should i get all the contents in one row of the excel or may be extended to the next line , how to resolve this issue, can anyone give me some idea or sample code.

ur downloading to excel using a single field...then it will download only 255 chars....may be from internla table u can download the fields and the excel sheet gets downloaded with data....check below code....

Excel File is corrupt, Please help

I have an excel file that has recently become corrupt. I was working on this file from last 3 years without any problem. It is helpful if someone know easy and quick method to recover data from it.
All other files are working fine.

It looks your file is corrupt, try to repair the corrupted file manually:
On the File tab, click Open.
In the Open dialog box, select the corrupted workbook that you want to open.
Click the arrow next to the Open button, and then click Open and Repair.
To recover as much of the workbook data as possible, click Repair.
P.S: It might possible that you have mailed this workbook to someone previously. If file is there then download it.

Creating .jnlp files from .java files

Last resort: Ask on the forums. I'm having a lot of trouble creating .jnlp files with only a .java file. For some reason if I do create project, the project does not run correctly, but when I make the file and run the file alone, it works perfectly fine. Most of the tutorials that I have read online ask me to do weird manifest .class stuff (in order to make JAR files, which i have failed to do even after attempting to make one after 3 hours). And still, when it comes to make the .jnlp file, I don't quite understand anything. When putting it on the web, I'm planning not to use php (html is in my mind right now), and I have aborted every single attempt at making the JAR files and whatnot.
At this point, I'm not asking for anything other than a link to a tutorial that actually works, because all that I have tried (for the JAR files, especially) have been giving me errors. By the way, one really bothersome output that comes up is the "illegal option: j" when I use the Tool for the JAR file, and I have no idea what that means--I google it and find nothing. The .java itself extends JPanel, so it isn't really an applet.

Create an Applet Class by clicking File > New > File > File Type > Java Classes > Applet Class.
Enter a name and path for the applet and click Finish.
Build the file by pressing F7.
Create an Applet HTML file by clicking File > New > File > File Type > Other > HTML Applet.
Enter a name and path for the applet and click Finish.
Open the HTML file in JCreator and modify the applet tag to match the name of the applet class.
Open the Project Settings window and select the HTML file as the Run parameter.
Click the Run Project button.It isn't really a code, but I tried doing this and the HTML Applet said code = ".class" Again, I don't have a class for the file. And when you do the "File > New > File > File Type > Java Classes > Applet Class," you get the .java file and a folder that says "components, with two classes in it. I was completely befuddled.

What the best way to create XML files from JAVA application?

Hi to all,
I need to edit and to create new filex in format of xml. I know to parse, but what would be the best way to do:
1. - Create new file, create like simle text file, or there is some clases that know to do it in more simple way
2.a - Edit XML file, to take some data and add it to the XML in the place I want to.
2.b - Also Edit, but not to add fields, just update some of them.
Code examples or links to samples woul be welcomed.

I have tried working with XML directly using the Java classes but this was a pain. I then looked at DOM4J and JDOM and found JDOM easier to use.

Problem with reading files from folders - please help

I have 2 folders (folder1 and folder2) on 2 different locations. Now i will say few things about my program.
First folder is input folder. Different applications generate XML files and put them inside folder1.
Then i have my application which i use to manipulate with those folders. Basically, i have 2 threads. One is checking if there are files in folder1 and other thread is moving manipulated files from folder1 to folder2.
I face this problem. XML files are much faster generated then manipulated. Example: for every 3 incoming files into folder1 i have 1 manipulated and stored file into folder2. This way i face problem that some older files are never manipulated, they are stuck in folder1 basically forever.
Could someone help me to solve this problem? I do not know how to select files form folder1 ordered by "date modified time".

How to create .exe files from Java class files?

I'm new to Java and I just wonder if it is possible to make executable files out of Java class files. I've checked the Java online help and several search engines, but I still couldn't find anything about that. Is it possible to do so? If not, why not?

I don't remember if there is a program that converts the class file,
but I do know that there are a few that either convert the class file,
or the .java file. You might try searching for ".java to .exe" in the
search engine and seeing what that pulls up.

I've created a Java GUI file and I want to create an exe file of it, so i can just double click on the icon and opens up..

Importing JPEG files from powerpoint - Please help I'm on a deadline!

I've been importing slides from powerpoint (saved as JPEG files) into imovie (there are 7 in all). I've done this without a problem. I decided I wanted to change some of the words so I went into my original powerpoint file, did my changes, and saved the slides as JPEG files as usual. For some reason now when I import each of the slides they're huge so the words are cut off. I've been trying to reduce the font size but now it's getting hard to read! Does anyone have any ideas as to why I'm suddenly having problems and how I can fix this? I need to ship this out today by 5pm EST.

Would you know why it's now importing these files in such a way that I"m not able to change the length of the slide? (it's importing it for 2 seconds almost as if it's a movie file - it has a little play button on the top which looks different from my other files)

Creating Picture file from text. HELP

This is the case... I want to create a picture file based on the text file being read, either bipmap, jpg or any widely used picture file format. What the program will do is read a file and translate the file into a picture. Based on the parameters in the file the program will create a picture the picture will be both text and other symbols.

With javax.imageio it is very easy to save a BufferedImage, so the problem really is how to render text on a BufferedImage. Here's a short sample how one line of text can be saved into a .png image. Unfortunately laying out text, rendering multiple lines, deciding where the line should be broken etc is a little more complicated than rendering just a short bit of text, but there's a lesson on it in the Java2D tutorial at http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/2d/textandfonts/linebreakmeasure.html

Reading Excel files in Java --

Hi,
I am trying to read an excel file from Java. It only reads the column, but I want to print the rows, which intersect with the SQL query. The following source displays only values of a column. No problem, but I would like to see the corresponding row numbers or simply number of rows. Can anyone suggest me what to do ASAP?
