Creating gradient colors in a circle - InDesign CS2 or Illustrator??

Hi -- trying to create a circle with multi-colored 'wedges' (can I attach an image here???). It seems I can only create gradients vetically or horizontally -- and I need it to look more like "pie slices" in the circle, if that makes sense. I am new - sorry. Should I keep struggling in Illustrator or InDesign?
Any design tips GREATLY appreciated -- I'm trying to recreate a logo, original atrwork not available. Can send original if anyone is interested.. many many thanks, Colleen

I know how to do it in Photoshop, but I did a quick look and can't find
anything in Illulstrator or Indesign. I guess the problem is there
wouldn't be a clear beginning and end to the gradient.
anyway, if you're interested, in photoshop, create a linear gradient
that takes up the whole canvas, then do Filter > Distort > Polar
Coordinates.

    I'm a Mac Illustrator CS3 user and having trouble copying text from InDesign CS2 to Illustrator CS3.
    After copy text from InDesign (allowed), I'll go to Illustrator to paste it, but none of the text appear. I'm not sure if there any other step should I take before paste?

  • Creating 'old newspaper' feel for document - Indesign CS2

    Hi --
    New here. I am trying to create a 'newspaper' (only double sided on tabloid). I'd like to be able to make the edges appear a bit yellowed / browned -- and not too precise, a bit of wave here and there, if possible. (one side of the document will give some older history to the topic). I only seem to be able to create box-type text boxes -- and circular. How can I make the edges appear this way? Should i struggle with Indesign or Illustrator of Photoshop?!? many thanks for any assistance!Regards, Colleen

    You can add a ragged effect to a frame by using the pen tool to add nodes to the sides and then the direct selection
    tool to drag them in as either straight lines, or by changing the node type, to curves.
    If you do this to a text frame you will make the text move as it maintains its distance from the edge. So you would need
    to create a graphic frame and place your text frame on top.
    The effects you want to achieve with coloration - burnt edges, fading etc - may be possible with judicious use of
    gradients and the effects tools, but the potential is naturally limited compared with what can be achieved in a
    dedicated graphics programme.

  • Problems with color from Photoshop to InDesign CS2?

    Hi all,
    Couple of questions:
    When I select "Proof Colors" from "View", the color changes a little bit. Is this normal?
    Also, on "View", "Proof Setup", which one should I select "Document CMYK" or "Working CMYK" or some other "Custom"
    thanks for all your help,
    Alex

    >When I select "Proof Colors" from "View", the color changes a little bit. Is this normal?
    It's not abnormal, but it will depend on what color spaces the objects are in and the color space that you choose to proof.
    >Also, on "View", "Proof Setup", which one should I select "Document CMYK" or "Working CMYK" or some other "Custom"
    You have a lot of choices for how to set up color management. I usually leave my settings set up for my most common situation, US Sheetfed coated and Adobe RGB, but if I have a special job I can reassign the document color space (notice I said Assign, not convert, in order to preserve the native object color numbers). You can proof the color in either the Working CMYK (the one in the color settings) the Document CMYK (if that's different) or something else entirely if you are repurposing an existing document for a new output method.
    When you proof colors, InDesign calculates the conversions on the fly and displays the results. RGB objects will almost always show some shifting due to gamut differences, but the type and degree will depend on the rendering intent you specify. CMYK objects tend not to show as much shifting because the gamuts are likely to be closer, but again it will depend on the exact profiles and intents. Objects that are already in the chosen proofing space should not show any shift at all.
    There is a caveat here regarding working in one space and outputting in another: If you want the colors to be as close as possible you will be converting to the new profile, which will by necessity change some color numbers to match the appearance. This is not usually a problem with things like photographs, but other things, like type, which is created as 100% K can be converted to a four-color mix which is not good. If you know the output conditions, I always recommend setting the document CMYK to that space when you start.

  • Creating a new menu in Adobe Indesign CS2

    Please let me know the process of creating a new menu and capturing a event generated by clicking a menu item of that menu.
    Need help on creating a plugin, loading it and linking it to the Indesign application.

    i need to create a connection between Adobe indesign (layout design tool) and Mark logic server.
    For that i have to create a plugin for indesign which establishes connection with marklogic.
    As a test project, i was successful in creating a sample web form application that connects to marklogic and fetches data from it.There i was getting directly an option to browse for marklogic dll under "add reference".
    To create a plgin,a tool has been given by Indesign sdk,called dollyXs which generates basic vc++ code (vc++ project in visual studio 2005) for developing plugins
    In this VC++ project, when i tried to add a reference to marklogic dll, im unable to do this as im not getting any option under "add reference" for browsing that dll and adding it to the vc++ project.
    please mail me at [email protected]

  • InDesign CS2 files not creating .idlk lock file

    We are currently experiencing a random issue where sometimes InDesign files that have been opened and saved say they are Read Only and have to be dumped out to the desktop and replaced on the server in order to update the changes.  I have noticed that when this crops up that for some reason the .idlk lock file is not being created in these instances.  It doesn't seem to matter if it is a Leopard or Tiger user, nor anything with time of day, etc.  We are using InDesign CS2 in conjunction with InCopy CS2 on a Windows Server with ExtremeZ-IP for AFP services to the Mac users.  As far as I can tell, the time between the clients and server is in synch as well.  Permissions are a non-issue as the user has full-control to the server and subsequent folders.  Any thoughts or ideas?
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Probably the only way to do this is by disabling the app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel lines. InDesign then shows any error dialogs, so you may be in for some OK clicking, but I don't see any other way.

  • Creating Reverse Type in InDesign CS2

    Working with InDesign CS2 - not sure how to reverse type.  PM7 had an option under Type Style to reverse type (change to white to show in a black box).
    Unable to find such a feature in InDesign CS2.   How is type reversed in InDesign CS2?  Only way I've seen is to select the type and color it white (color selection not easy for type it seems).  Is there an easy, quick way to reverse type in InDesign CS2?
    Would appreciate any help on this you can give.

    Above and beyond Ken's factual answer... it's not easy because it's robust. You can do so much more with type color in ID than you can in another app where there's just a "reverse type" checkbox. In fact, pretty much across the board, ID is more robust, so if you really need a way to change color of text, there are at least three or four different ways to do so, some more automated than others, and if the multitude of options still isn't enough, you can write a Javascript or Applescript or VB script to do it for you.
    But no, there's no particular setting for "reverse type" unless you make one yourself. I'd suggest a character style with a keyboard shortuct.

  • CMYK layers showing up when spot color illos placed in InDesign CS3

    When I place an Illustrator CS3 (13.0.2) illustration into InDesign CS3 (5.0.3), Preflight tells me that CMYK colors are being used, even though the imported illustration has only 2 Pantone spot colors matching those used in the InDesign document (the 2 spot colors show up in Preflight as well). I double-checked to make sure they were spot colors, not CMYK. When I go to Separations Preview, my 2 spot color show up but nothing shows on the CMYK layers. I deleted all unused color swatches in my InDesign file (and the Illustrator file), and when I delete the illustration Preflight just shows the 2 PMS spot color that I'm using in the document. I'm using Mac OS 10.5.4 on a brand-new Quad-Core Xeon, if that matters.
    I've tried saving the illustration as both AI and EPS, and using CMYK and RGB color modes. I deleted all unused color swatches from both Illustrator and InDesign. For another test, I created a fresh Illustrator file that just had a box in 1 spot color and placed it in a fresh InDesign file, and again Preflight said that CMYK was being used. Besides the usual work-around of telling my service bureau to not output the CMYK film, does anyone have any idea of how to correct this? I've encountered it several times. (BTW, my service bureau didn't know what the problem is).
    This is my first visit and post here, so if I have violated some forum etiquette, please forgive me.

  • Illustrator CS2 and InDesign CS2 not starting - here is how it was solved.

    This document is merely a compilation of information found at the sources named at the bottom of this document.
    Basically running older Adobe CS2 Software on a MacBook Pro 10.6.x Snow Leopard - probably like many of you that either can't afford the upgrade to CS3, CS4 or CS5, or maybe don't see the need to do so.  It's running good but it is slow since it is using Rosetta, but it does work - well, used to work.
    Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2, etc. were all running fine after the upgrade to Snow Leopard (under 10.6, 10.6.1 and 10.6.2).  Then the update to 10.6.3 was installed.  At the same time a bunch of other updates - including the Acrobat 8.2 update - were installed.  Not really sure what did it, but all of a sudden Illustrator CS2 stopped responding at the start up screen - no longer started up and InDesign CS2 popped the registration/licensing screen.  When trying to enter license info on first key press the application quit entirely.
    So maybe the 10.6.3 update was the culprit.  Never even thought that it could be the Acrobat 8.2/8.2.1 updates.  Then I found this thread here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/613287?tstart=0 (good reading)
    Which ultimately pointed me the the instructions here:
    >start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468.html
    Replace the corresponding files present in the “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/” folder with the one attached to this document.
    Download the attached Mac.dmg (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468/attachments/Mac.dmg) file to a machine where the issue is seen.
    Close all Adobe applications
    Double Click the Mac.dmg file to mount it.
    Copy Mac folder from mounted image. Paste it to /Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/.
    A message appears to confirm to replace the existing 'Mac' folder. Replace the 'Mac' folder.
    Launch Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
    The Mac folder attached to this KB document already has the correct permissions set, so it should not be necessary to complete the steps below. However there may be cases where the permissions for the Mac folder get overwritten. In such a case, the original issue can reoccur. To solve this issue, complete the steps below:
    Follow Solution 1 and make sure that all Adobe applications are closed.
    Right or Control click and select 'Get Info' on the Mac folder  in “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/”, which you have copied from the .dmg file attached to this document.
    Verify that under 'Sharing and Permissions' all users listed have no write access
    If a change is required, click the padlock symbol and provide your Administrator credentials
    Select the user which has Write access and change it to 'Read Only'.
    Ensure the user 'Everyone' is set to 'No Access.
    To check if the issue has been solved, launch Acrobat 8.2 and then Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
    < end quote
    Even after following the instructions still "no love" from Illustrator CS2 or InDesign CS2.  InDesign did no longer show the registration screen, but it didn't continue launching, and Illustrator progressed further along in the start up sequence but also never finished launching.
    Then I found another article on the adobe site.  I am just quoting the part performed  and which ultimately did the trick.
    >start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/326/326388.html
    Steps 1 and 2 are not relevant so no need to do them
    3. At the Finder, choose File > Find.
    4. TypeAdobeFnt10.lst (Illustrator CS2), select the system drive, and then press Return.
    5. Delete all AdobeFnt10.lst files found.
    6. Restart the computer.
    7. Restart Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new Adobefnt10.lst or AdobeFnt07.lst file.
    < end quote
    So, this solved the problems at least for the time being.  Hope this helps someone else a bit.

    Illustrator CS2 stopped working for me on Snow Leopard as well. What it all boiled down to was not to update to 12.0.1. Not sure which release of Snow Leopard I was on when I figured that out but I keep up-to-date, am now at 10.6.6 and CS2 still works fine. I keep getting prompted to update to 12.0.1 from time to time but just cancel it.
    I'm fairly sure I was at 12.0.1 already when I moved from Leopard to Snow Leopard and it was that, not a Snow Leopard update, that "broke" CS2 12.0.1. If I remember correctly, if you now try to apply the update, it won't go through with it anyway.

  • Gradient Color Picker

    Dear Community,
    i have a Problem with Illustrator CS6. I've attached an image below.
    I have an object with gradient fill and i've selected the first color stop.
    In previous Versions of AI i could the pick any color with color Picker while holding the shift-key.
    In CS6 this changes the color only in the Gradient Panel but not the Object itself:
    I have to admit that i'm glad not to be a creative cloud user so i'm able to switch between Ai cs 5.1 and 6
    because both have some features missing in the other version.
    My best,
    Herr K. aus Berlin

    Re: Gradient Color Picker
    created by Mike Gondek
    This still works for me in CS6 mac, but more importantly try not to use Shift eyedropper. The topic has been discussed here many times. Shift eyedropper is not accurate and samples the screen values, not the actual color.
    Try using global swatches more often. Try this instead
    select a gradient stop
    Alt click on a swatch
    If the swatch is set to global, you can easily change/adjust/merge colors later with one command on a global document level.
    Thanks for the advice. I never had problems with shift-click picker i sample colors from other objects and even if they have Spot colors assigned it works, at least in CS5. I've tried in CS6 it's just not working. I've been told that there has been many discussions and i've read some. I'll stick to CS5. I'm very disapointed with adobe. This is a known bug it has been reworked on Mac Versions but not on PC.

  • Can I export solid objects into Illustrator / InDesign CS2 and maintain vector format

    Can Adobe 3D export solid objects in vector format into Illustrator or InDesign CS2 suite?
    I'm interested in taking solid 3D objects developed in Pro/E 2.0 and import from Adobe 3D into Adobe Illustrator & InDesign in vector format for page layout. I want to import solid objects in vector format and maintain color scheme and surface textures.
    I'm running 3D trial version and can successfully import 3D objects (asm & prt files) solid views from Pro/E but can only export wireframe views from Adobe 3D Toolkit into Illustrator or InDesign (CS2). Solid objects first have to get rendered in a raster format before importing into Illustrator.
    If this function is not supported does anyone have experience doing this using Quadraspace or Right Hemisphere 3D software?

    Any help???? After 2 weeks I still can't learn from Adobe or Right Hemisphere people how to import solid objects in vector format into Illustrator with color and surface textures in place. All imported objects in vector format are converted to a wireframe or line format unless they are first rasterized.

  • Creating Gradient-filled shapes via JSFL CS5.5?

    I'm trying to use JSFL to create a number of oval shapes on a layer, that have a gradient fill applied to them.  I've stripped down the JSFL to very bare bones which I will post here:
    var flashDoc = fl.getDocumentDOM();
    var flashLib = flashDoc.library;
    var flashTimeline = flashDoc.getTimeline();
    // Set fill color for all shapes
    var fill = flashDoc.getCustomFill();
    fill.style = "radialGradient";
    fill.color = "#FFFFFF";    // For some reason if I don't assign at least *something* here, the color array doesn't work and I get fully black shapes
    fill.colorArray = ["#0033CC", "#FFFFFF"];
    fill.posArray = [0, 255];
    fill.focalPoint = 0;
    fill.linearRGB = true;
    flashDoc.setCustomFill( fill );
    for( var i = 0; i < 10; ++i )
        var x = Math.random() * 500;
        var y = Math.random() * 400;
        var radius = Math.random() * 25 + 25;
        var left = x - radius;
        var top = y - radius;
        var right = x + radius;
        var bottom = y + radius;
        flashDoc.addNewOval( {left:left, top:top, right:right, bottom:bottom}, false, true );
    When I run this script I do not get the results I'm expecting.  I get a number of oval shapes that all share the same gradient transform, i.e., each shape only gets part of the gradient.  The documentation says this function should be equivalent to using the draw oval tool, yet when you use that tool each oval you draw is associated with its own gradient transform.
    My Questions:
    1. Am I missing a piece here to create shapes each with their own gradient transform?
    2. Is it a bug that I have to set something into fill.color, even though I'm supplying a color array?  If I set nothing there, all the shapes will draw in full black.
    3. Is there a way to specify gradient colors that include alpha?
    Thanks for your time.

    Yep, that made the rest of my whole day!! Works excelllent in the demo, and i'm just replacing all the  Image<->Triangle commands. Wonderfulll & thanks a lot, LitDev. (enjoint the sb sample in your Test-DL :-))

  • White jagged edge around masked image in InDesign CS2

    I have an image with a black background which I have masked out that I'm placing into a document in InDesign CS2 that has a black background. There is a jagged white "halo" along he masking line that gets worse the farther out you zoom and disappears if you zoom in closely. What can I do to to make the halo go away when I'm zoomed out to a normal distance? I want to feather the edges of the placed photo, but when I do this, it includes the white halo in the feather and creates a grey cloud around the image.

    How does it print? That's the important thing. If the preview's really bothering you set the image's display quality to High Resolution. My guess is that InDesing generated a low-resolution preview when the image was placed and in the downsampling, the edge of your mask was antialiased, producing gray pixels at the edge.
    You might get acceptable results using a clipping path instead of a mask. That way the edges will not be antialiased because the edges of the image will be hidden by the clipping path.
    Make sure the Black in your image matches the CMYK values in the black of the page.

  • How do I make a custom brush image in a gradient color scheme in Photoshop Elements 12?

    I want to make a custom brush image in a gradient color scheme.  I know how to change the hue jitter, but I want to "paint" the image with a gradient between two colors.  For example, I have an image of an octopus that I have used to create a custom brush.  I want the top of the octopus to be hot pink and gradually fade into a deep orange at the end of the tentacles.  Everything I've looked up just colors the background.  Thanks in advance!

    Try the following:
    Open the octopus image
    Open a Gradient Map Adjustment layer above this. There are several preset gradients, but in my version of the program I don't see one with pink to orange.
    When you double click on the gradient bar in the Adjustments palette, this will open up the Gradient Editor, where you can tailor the gradient to your specifications with color and opacity stops. (see below)
    This will apply the gradient to the entire picture. However, the adjustment layer has a built-in mask (the white rectangle).
    Left click on this and paint with a black brush to hide the gradient outside of the octopus. If you go too far, you can correct with a white brush.
    Now, as to the Gradient map adjustment layer, here is how to configure it:
