Creating images with J2EE

Hello everbody!
I use the Sun Java System Application Server 8.1 and I am interested in creating images with Servlets. Because the J2EE specification prohibits the use of the AWT (and the Sun Application Server enforces this restriction by installing a security manager), I want to know which possibilities exist to create images without the AWT.
Any comments are appreciated in advance!

I am sorry for being unprecise. By creating images I mean drawing my own images from scratch. I wanna start by something like
BufferedImage image = new BufferedImage( ... );and then draw into that image, using the usual drawLine etc. methods from java.awt.Graphics or java.awt.Graphics2D.
But this is not possible, because the Application Server forbids using these methods.
I am sure someone encountered this problem before me. There must be a solution without AWT. Maybe there exists a library.
Any ideas?

    Hello,
    i want to employ a script to create images of dynamic width for me. The whole process shall base on different sized sets of images, which contain a left-image, a right-image and a center-image. The desired width for the different cases shall be reached by duplicating the center-image between the two outer images and placing those images next to each other until the image extends to desired width.
    The layers importet into Photoshop shall be importet as smart-layers (which i already solved).
    Has anyone done something similar already and could give me some useful hints on that issue ?

  • Creating images with transparent backgrounds

    Hello all,
         I've got a swing app drawing program where you have multiple layers, with each layer containing many components that can be moved and resized. So, in the most simple form, I have a JComponent which has a list of images to be drawn. If I setOpaque to false, the background (and other layers) can be seen through the empty spaces of this component, as expected.
         The problem was that once the number of components grew above 300, performance started suffering. So I decided to optimize it. Instead of redrawing all of the components each time I need to paint, I 'cache' that layer by drawing all of the components in a layer onto an Image's graphic. Then I do a 'graphics.drawImage(cachedImage);' in my main JComponent's paint method.
         Very fast, but now I can't see the background (and other layers) beneath the topmost one.
         So now the question. Is there a way to preserve the 'setOpaque(false)' call when painting to the image. To be more specific, I want an image that is transparent except for graphics that I've drawn into it. I've even tried first filling the image with a 'new Color(255,255,255,0)', but I'm still getting an opaque image.

    Using a TYPE_INT_ARGB BufferedImage worked beautifully. I had played around with Image for hours, but it never occurred to me that BufferedImage would be needed. :)

    The .jpg file is getting created, but the data in it is very absurd, like yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

So I think where my main problem is is in creating the Graphics2D objects correctly. This whole concept I'm using for creating objects may be horrid, but hey, that's where you guys come in :) Tell me where I've screwed up hehe. Thanks for the help!

  • Unable to create restore disk image with Disk Utility

    I've tried three times in order to create a restore image of the users' volume of my Powerbook. I followed exactly the procedure explained typing "man asr" in a terminal window. I booted the Powerbook in target disk mode while connected to my iMac G5 from which Disk utility was run. Every time the disk image creation failed with a log report like this:

    I don't know how my imported music could create such a problem to Disk utility, nevertheless I removed the incriminated song from the Music library but another one raised to be not accessible. Then I booted the powerbook from the supplied Tiger DVD too, and I got an error over the music file, something about an allocation that was 190 instead of 1, I got the volume repaired from Disk utility but the Disk image creation failed again without any hint because booting from DVD does not allow to save log file anywhere. Why on Earth I can't manage such a critical task as back up under Tiger while using Panther everything worked like a charm following the same procedure? Is anyone experiencing something similar?

    Hi Lee, thank you for your answer, indeed I've just read carefully your article few hours ago, while I googled the net to find some hints on my issue. I think that I've followed exactly the right procedure to make the back up image, and can't find what is wrong. Actually Disk utility Repair disk successfully repaired the allocation bit (whatever that means) of the music files but that wasn't enough to let the creation of the disk image. Quite odd that the music files where recognized as messed up by Disk utility only booting from Tiger DVD and not while the Powerbook was connected to an iMac running Tiger too.
    I'll do further investigation during weekend.

    Hi,
    I'd like to create a mp3 disk image with disk utility. In the end I would like to have a mp3 disk that plays in various stero system and macs.
    But I want to add some additional files: a png file for a nice folder background of the dmg, a special image for the dmg, and some text files relating to the mp3s.
    Is this possible at all? Is there something I have to observe creating the dmg?

    You need to know which file systems your "various stereo systems" understand. The default file system created on a diskimage when burning is a hybrid file system- HFS+, ISO-9660 with Rock Ridge, and Joliet with Rock Ridge.

  • Open an image with photoshop...I can't create another layer

    hi,
    So, just got aperture and am trying to figure it out.
    I have managed to open an image with an external editor...in my case, photoshop elements 4...now, I would like to edit this image further.
    Problem is that photoshop tells me that my image is 16 bit... and so I can't even create a new layer.
    How do I fix this? Is this an export setting from aperture?

    The shadow effect has to have something to be applied on, but by default text frames borders and fills are invisible.
    If you set the border of your frame to a color & thickness, you'll see it gets a shadow of its own, independent of the text. (Try it with dotted and dashed lines!)
    Additionally, if you set the fill of your text frame to a solid color, you'll see the single solid shadow you were expecting.

  • What is the proper way to create a monotone image with real looking contrast?

    Once I apply a color to my previously created black and white image everything looks washed out.
    I have an artwork with 3D representation of the letterforms, casting shadows on the textured surface. Shadows are deep black. I need this artwork to be colored in gold. My client forwarded me the specs for the metallic gold which he got from the PANTONE. They are:Gold (871); Adobe 1998 RGB: 126-113-76
    HSB*: 44 degrees-40%-50%
    What is the proper way of applying those values to the desired image.
    My idea was to make the image black and white and than create a monotone image with the above specs. In this case the image gets washed out as the darkest black in the shadows becomes this Pantone gold. Is there any other way?

    A duotone will work, however you are going to want to work closely with your printer . Most printers will want the second color in CMYK (Possibly C60 M40 Y0 K100 instead of RGB values or specify a Pantone Rich Black (I personally like 6C)but it will cost you more for the wash up of both heads of the printer...
    Go to Image>Mode>Duotone (image must be greyscale first for this to work) then add the desired colors to your ink scales.

    There is only one image attribute in the Item Type attribute, I need an additional image attribute for the item, is it possible to add ? However I can't find the datatype of "image" when creating an attribute. Thanks !

    i tested this and there is no image attribute type. so to render an additional image with your item you need to use a workaround. one solution i can think of is to add an additional custom file attribute to your item type. then use an attached pl/sql procedure that get executed for your item type and render this attribute as icon. i think you should be able to use the content management view wwsbr_all_items to query the name of the icon in the document table. you can pass itemid, pageid and pagegroup id to your procedure. on the region level you need to enable the associated functions attribute to display the result of the procedure.

  • Creating Windows 8.1 master image with MDT 2013,cannot capture .WIM

    I am having an issue with creating a master image with Windows 8.1 and MDT 2013.  
    I have followed extensive tutorials on how to create a master image using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit. my goal is to have a fully configured windows 8.1 image which I can deploy through Windows Deployment Services. I have been relatively successful thus far,
    except for one issue I have run into, which is successfully capturing this image as a .WIM.
    I have successfully created a task sequence and the task sequence is able to run all the way through until the final step. Essentially the task sequence is supposed to install Windows and Office, then suspend the task sequence to allow me to make customisations
    to the start screen and desktop background, and I simply click resume task sequence, and the task sequence should sysprep reboot and capture the machine image as a .WIM file.
    the task sequence is able to sysprep the machine, but upon rebooting it boots into out of box experience, and does not create a wim file. I receive an error saying: "cannot find script file C:\ltibootstrap.Vbs" after the machine completes OOBE 
    I am using Windows Server 2012 r2, creating my Master machine image using hyper-v, and my master image is running Windows 8.1.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm not sure about the sequence of steps here. Try taking your captured.wim file and deploying it using MDT again, or at least to another machine. MDT sometimes leaves extra files around on the captured machine, so simply rebooting it may not get a accurate
    test results.
    IF you are getting the ltibootstrap.vbs it is most likely because there is a stray unattend.xml file somewhere in your image that is looking for this file. Crack open your Wim file and search for any unattend.xml files.
