Creating moving circles

Hey,
I'm using Motion 3 and would like to create various circles (the outline of them not filled in) to move round. They don't necessarily have to be full circles - they could just be part of the outline, etc... But I'm just wondering what the best way to do this is? Is there any tutorials anyone knows of that could be useful in this type of thing?
I've tried some of the behaviours with the circles in Motion and they kind of work but not in the way I want them too.
Any help is grateful.
Thanks

How do I make sure that the anchor point is set to the centre of my circle? The X, Y and Z are all set to 0.00 at the moment.
Thanks
Sure but Motion's huge manual is here you need to be looking this stuff up.
Open the manual and search for pixel aspect ratio. You will see there is a control for the Canvas image to compensate for PAR or not. But this setting relies upon your understanding of the pixel dimensions of your output video format. Some formats are rectangular pixels, some are square.
Your x-y-z coordinates are for the layer, not for the circle. The circle needs to be in the precise center of the layer. You can achieve this using a set of key combinations while drawing the circle; a bit tricky your first few hundred circles.

• How to create a circle with the origin not at (0,0)

I want to create a circle but the origin is not at (0,0).
I have the following data;
- point coordinate (X1,Y1)
- radius of the circle
Also, I want to create a line between the origin and the point (X1,Y1).
Kindly show me how can I do this. Thank you very much.

The accuracy of the GPS Receiver is +/- 0.5 meter. Its a Novatel product (Flex Pak). I am getting the string data from the GPS receiver. I took the Longtitude data as for my X and Latitude data for my Y. I took the Longtitude and Latitude data from the center of post for my reference calculation only to get the true value of X and Y at the end of the boom. I call the X and Y value at the end of the boom as dynamic because it always give me the value wherever the boom goes. Please see the attached sample VI's.
At one point , I actually measured, using a tape measure, the distance from the end of the boom to the center of post and i am getting the correct radius. But when I rotate the boom on the other side it will give me a different radius. And looking at this radius value, while rotating the boom, I can judge that my point of origin is not (0,0).
At this point I have no idea how to get the correct origin. Kindly teach me if you have idea on this.
Do you think the way I calculated for the true value of X and Y is still correct? Is my reference too far?
Thank you very much.

• What do I do when I start my iMac I get a white screen with an apple and a moving circle?

All I get when my iMac is turned on is a white screen with an apple and a moving circle. What should I do to get the iMac to boot?

Do you have reliable backup you can restore from, as an erase and re-install may be required?
Before you got down that route, it's possible that it might get fixed if you try again. Not sure about that particular error, but I have had errors in the past that Disk Utility wouldn't fix on the first attempt but then subsequently did.
It's also possible that the (around $99, I think) Disk Warrior might resolve it - but not guaranteed.
However, I just found this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3862376?start=15&tstart=0 have a look at Nirvi's post at the end - there may be hope (I've not tried this, although it seems to have helped a few, although not everybody - so at your own risk and I wouldn't try it if I didn't have backup).

• How to create a circle object with center(lat/long) and radius(kilo)?

Hi
I want to create a circle in my table, the data I have are the coordinate of center(lat/long) and the radius of the circle. The srid of the table is lat/long.
Did I have to use some fomula to compute the coordinate of three points on the circle? If it's true, is there any example procedure you can show me?
Thanks

When a circle is created using SDO_BUFFER in geodetic space,
the result is a circle with stroked arcs (as in arc_densify function).
So the result from SDO_BUFFER will be a valid polygon without arcs,
but approximate circle with straight lines.
For example, in the example given by Dan, this is what you get:
SDO_GEOMETRY(2003, 8307, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1003, 1), SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(-120, 42.09003, -120.03128, 42.086958, -120.06042, 42.0779524, -120.08543, 42.0636292, -120.1046, 42.0449675, -120.11663, 42.0232424, -120.1207, 41.9999365,

• FCPX/Motion - creating a circle with alpha channel?

This film has a lot of scientific apparatus. I need to be able to circle certain elements as they are described/discussed. I crudely made myself a red circle on black background in Pages, exported out as a PDF, then tried to find a composite mode in FCPX that would get rid of the black. The closest I got was a sort of semi-transparent red circle.
I'm wondering what the easiest way to create a red circle (red opaque, background transparent) might be, that I can drop onto an FCPX timeline and manipulate?
If I have to use Motion, I want to be able to just create the circle there. I don't want to work on the sequences in Motion (too much as yet unpredictable about the sequences). I want to do everything in FCPX if I can (other than maybe constructing the circle).
All ears,
Ben

Aha!
There it is! Tra-la. Right in FCPX. Perfect. Thank you T. And Andy, I was looking at Ripple Training the other day ... so will go back and check out some more possibilities.
Hey guys, what I'd love to find: Soft Wipes ... the kind that allows me to set a point and have the wipe either right, left, top, bottom, or radial even, with really controllable feathering. I've been looking for a set ever since I can no longer use that wonderful plug-in I was using in FCP7 (FXScript DVE's by CGM?) And haven't found anything.
I would so love to be able to create controlled dissolves, where one image metamorphoses into the next ...
That, and Joe's Filters - the amazing 'Joe's Colour Glow' filter ... that allowed you to pump and bloom the whites. Joe has retired I believe, from making filters. The nice thing about his Colour Glow was that there was no yellow in it, no alternative 'colour', only the white ... playing with it allowed me make sequences, when required, look very very 'clean' ... the whites were so super white. I can't find anything in FCPX that does this. The 'Bloom' I think allows me to play a bit with the whites, but it then adds a yellowish tint that I can't get rid of.
There, two little wish list thingies I've been wanting to find for a long time. Soft Wipes, and Joe's Colour Glow filter.

• Created moving banner but it comes with skins

Hi,
There doesn't seem to be an option (DW8) when importing a flash video without it coming with some sort of skin.
I created a movie (banner across the top of my site - 460 x 120) with Movie Edit Pro and converted it in flash to an .fla file. This part allowed me to choose skins = "none" but when I imported the fla movie into DW it only gave me choices of different skins without a "none" option.
I don't want a play button for my scrolling movie banner obviously. How can I remove the skin? Keep in mind - I'm much more gui than coder, but I can figure out a few things.
Thanks,

Thanks again Nancy.
I understand about the off button... have a link on creating one and how to place it near or on the animation?
Also can you explain rhe difference between the swf vs fla usages? Why would I prefer 1 over another?
I can see now that an swf must not need skins so i guess swf is a plus for creating moving banners vs fla.
First of all, to clarify the file extensions.
FLA - that's the Flash source file, and is created and edited in Flash
FLV - that's the Flash video file, I think that's what you meant to say in your original post.
SWF - the published file from Flash, and many other programs have the ability to export content to this format.
You're getting into an area where you need to Flash to create the FLA, publish to SWF - then you have complete control of attached FLVs, skins, buttons and anything else you neeed.

• When i create a circle in photoshop and import it to Motion 5, it becomes more of an oval shape than a circle in motion.

When i create a circle in photoshop and import it to Motion 5, it becomes more of an oval shape than a circle.even though the size of the document i worked in photoshop is the same as that in motion 5. which is Pal D1/DV 720 x 576.
Thanks

hi,
check the pixel aspect ratio in both the photoshop file and Motion project and make sure they match too. Or simply resize in Motion until round again. or even easier create the circle in Motion directly.

• Create a circle class

Hey guys,
I'm trying to do something very simple which isnt working
I've got a custom class that creates a circle:
package create
import flash.display.Shape
public class circle
public function circle()
var circle:Shape = new Shape();
circle.graphics.lineStyle(5, 0, 1);
circle.graphics.drawCircle(50,50,20);
And i have a main mxml file that has a button that when pushed should run the code in the custom class's costructor and add the circle to the stage:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx">
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import creat.circle
protected function createCircle_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
]]>
</fx:Script>
<s:Button id="createCircle" x="27" y="122" width="35" label="Button"
click="createCircle_clickHandler(event)"/>
</s:WindowedApplication>
What code would have to go in the createCircle function to make it work? I've tried creat.circle(); and it's given me the error that says i need 1 argument in the () part. Which is confusing
Anyone help?
Thanks
Chris

You'll want to create two variables
circles (an Array of Circles)
currentCircle (the most recently created circle).
Add the circle to the array in mouse down but store a reference to it in currentCircle, then manipulate currentCircle in the other handlers.
For example
protected var circles:Array = new Array();
protected var currentCircle:Ellipse;
protected function createCircle(e:MouseEvent):void {
currentCircle = new Ellipse();
//size, position, and add the circle
circles.push(currentCircle);
protected function resizeCircle(e:MouseEvent):void {
var dx:int = e.localX - currentCircle.x;
var dy:int = e.localY - currentCircle.y;
currentCircle.width = dx;
currentCircle.height = dy;

• How to create a circle from the centre?

Hi. I'm using PS CS3 and I want to create a perfectly round circle from the centre. How do you do this?
I know pressing shift while dragging makes it perfectly round. I've also read that pressing alt at the same time draws it from the centre, but it's not working, it just comes up with the eyedropper tool. Am I missing something or is there a different way to do it?
Thanks.

Hi,
If you click and hold the mouse and then press the Alt key and drag it should work.
Also, after you start dragging, add the Shift key to constrain to a circle.

• Creating moving clouds

Hi
I have this assignment where we have to use a display list. I am trying to create clouds moving on the background.
I'm sure my code is very clumsy. I was able to get the clouds on my stage but I can only get one to move.
Please, I can't seem to wrap my head around this and as you can see I'm a novice.
import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;
var myBackground:BackGround = new BackGround();
addChild(myBackground);
var myCloud:MyCloud;
for (var i:Number = 0; i<6; i++)
myCloud = new MyCloud();
addChild(myCloud);
var randomValue: Number = Math.random()*2;
myCloud.x = Math.random()*stage.width;
myCloud.scaleX = myCloud.scaleY = randomValue;
myCloud.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, flyBy);
function flyBy(event:Event):void
myCloud.x +=6;
if (myCloud.x> stage.stageWidth)
myCloud.x = 0;
addChild(myCloud);

all the clouds move initially, but then only one re enters?
myCloud = new MyCloud();
addChild(myCloud);
var randomValue: Number = Math.random()*2;
myCloud.x = Math.random()*stage.width;
myCloud.scaleX = myCloud.scaleY = randomValue;
myCloud.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, flyBy);
function flyBy(event:Event):void
MovieClip(event.currentTarget).x +=6;
if (myCloud.x> stage.stageWidth)
myCloud.x = 0;
Not quite sure what you mean about the width?
myCloud.width=?

• How do I create a circle of images in motion?

Hi All,
I have 73 Paintings that I want to arrange in a circle, all facing inwards to the center.
Is there a simple way to place these still images in a circle configuration in 3d space?
My final goal is to place a viewpoint camera in the center of the circle and rotate it 360 degrees to view all of the paintings.
Thanks.

One way to achieve this is to create an image sequence naming your image incremental. i.e. : imagenamexx.png so when you will import your image in motion the all 73 images will be part of a single image name as this : image_name[@].png:1:73
Then you replicate this sequence image and tweak the replicator parameters :
- Form : circle
- Fill : around
- Size : to change as needed
- Number : 73
- Image source : 1
- image displacement : 1
- Face to camera : checked
- 3D : checked
Then you change the X axis rotation by 90°. If i'm not forgetting some step you should achieve what you need.

• How to create a circle with blocks in it? (with Illustrator)

Hey, first post here.
I just did some tutorials on the mesh tool in Illustrator and I wondered if I can create a similar effect I had in mind. A blocked circle would be awesome, but so far it can only do gradients and not solid blocks. To illustrate my point I have a picture from what I have now:
How do I create it so the black and white areas will be solid squares within the blue lines? Thanks!

1 Draw a pattern of squares or use the Object Path Split into Grid feature
2 fill with a color if you wish
3 Draw a circle over it and select all the squares and the circle
4 and go to Object>Envelope Distort>Make with Top Object
Or make your patter of squares and turn that into a symbol and map it to a 3D Effect Sphere
if you need instructions bout making a 3D sphere use the help files or I or someone else will be back.

• How to create a circle with text that is transparent

I am trying to achieve this affect. I want a black circle with text in it but where ever I place the circle the text needs to be transparent and you see through it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
I am using Illustrator CC 2014
Thanks

I am using CS5.1 but the technique is the same, hope the info below will be of help.
1. Create circle
2. Type word - then select Type from the top menu and select Create Outlines (for ease of selection I colour the type)
3. Select shape and text with the (black arrow) selection tool.
4. Top menu - Window - scroll down to Pathfinder
5. Select Divide - then select shape and text again and select the top menu Object and scroll down to Ungroup.
6. Then select the red parts of the text and delete or another way is to select a part of the text with colour go to top menu and go to Select scroll down to Same and select Fill Colour this will select all the same colour you will want to delete instead of clicking on each part separately and then delete.
Then save the file as a eps or Ai file etc
