Creating PDF from PowerPoint results in lines around images

I've researched this topic on the forums and have seen some related posts but none that directly hit the issue I'm having. Have a PP file with some images and when I create PDF, the resulting file shows random "outline" lines partially around some of the images.  These lines do not show up when printing.  They go away if I uncheck the "Smooth Images" box under Edit/Preferences/Page Display.  However, unchecking the box degrades the image quality and requires the viewer to make this change in his version of Reader.  This PDF will be viewed typically on a screen rather than via print and I can't rely on the user to do the Smooth Images change.  I have spent lots of hours trying various potential fixes (differing file types, etc.) but can't figure it out and haven't been able to find a solution anywhere on the web.  Anyone up for the challenge of helping me figure it out?

Any chance you can post a link to the file or PDF page?

  • Create PDF from Search results...

    Hello all.
I am currently creating PDF's of all my company websites. We are going to uses these PDFs as sources of information.
Basically, We are going to use Acrobats search functionality to search across a large number of PDFs of the websites. Lets say I search for "Cancer"
The search results come back with the PDF document title link and link to the exact page were the words Cancer is found.
What I would like to do it to be able to create one PDF based on all the pages located in the search results.
Is it possible to automate this process without having to physically open every page and extract it?
    Cheers
    John

    Hi,
You can use Adobe Services to create PDF using Webdynpro.
You can display your search results from SAP R/3 in a PDF file.

  • Creating PDFs from PowerPoint Tables that InDesign Can Handle

Hi - I just posted the question below on the InDesign forum, but I think it may actually be a Microsoft-Adobe-pdf issue.  Any help is much appreciated.
Hi All, this is my first post on the Adobe Community.  I problem cropped up in the last week and i am going crazy.  Please help!!  I am running on  a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.7.5.
I have been using a workflow to create tables in InDesign for months with no issues:
    1.  Calculate a complex table in Excel
    2.  Paste the table into PowerPoint for formatting
    3.  Copy the table in PowerPoint, then paste it back as a pdf image
    4.  Option-click on the pdf image on the slide to save it as a pdf file
    5.  Go to a frame InDesign that already has a linked image, re-link to the new pdf file.
This workflow has been very helpful because I have a lot of complex and carfully formatted tables I need to get into InDesign.  Now, since upgrading both my Microsoft Office 2011 and my Adobe CS6 SW it not working.
I can copy, paste-as-pdf, save the pdf file.   But when I try to link to it in InDesign it get the message "Failed to open the pdf file."
I can still link to older pdf files with no problem, and I can use this work flow on text-only pdf files from PowerPoint.  The pdf files that contain tables are not linking into InDesign.  I have tried to do the past-as-pdf into Microsoft Word and the behavior is the same.
All the pdf files look fine in Acrobat.
Thank you very much for any assistance.
    -Cecelia

It's a matter of efficiency as much as anything else. I read too many
reports here of people having problems printing previewing or working
with PDFs and it often comes back to preview.
It's fine for JPGs but PDFs? No, especially those generated by InDesign.
Why open them in preview only to find a problem when Reader or Acrobat
are far better applications? It just seems horribly inefficient to have
preview set as the default for PDFs only to find an problem and then
have to quit preview and open Reader or Acrobat.

  • Creating PDF from HTML without background

    Hi,
I want to create a PDF from a html-page. I tried several ways without success to get a PDF without a background (white). I need a transparent background to add different backgrounds for different pages in Acrobat X Pro.  I use an iMac with OSX 10.10.2, Safari 8.0.4 and have the MasterCollection 6 installed. I tried:
    - print page -> create PDF Result: white background which hides added background
    - print page -> save as Adobe-PDF Result: white background which hides added background
    - in Acrobat: create PDF from web Result: white background which hides added background
In all cases it doesn't matter if I select "print background" or not. And it doesn't change if I add in the CSS for the web a body {background-color: rgba(255,255,255,0)} or body {background-color:transparent}.
How can I create a PDF with no or transparent background?

    Hi Manoj
If your application generate a static html page, you can open those html files with Reports 9i and add a dynamic data sections which would be fetch the data in your html pages with Report servcies. However you can only run those modified pages as a jsp and show the output to browser window.
    Thanks

Can't create new pdfs from powerpoint; either form within Adobe or within powerpoint.  I could do this yesterday and today it won't work for some reason.  The error says "an unexpected error occurred.  PDFMaker was unable to produce the Adobe PDF.  How do I fix this?

Is there a log file in the document folder indicating what the problem was. There are a number of reasons that PDF creation may fail. You can try to print to the Adobe PDF printer to see if there is any indication in that process. The processing is different, but the same problems may show up with both processes.

  • Acrobat 9 Quits When Create PDF from Scanner Selected

Hi. I wonder if anyone can advise please.
I have recently installed Acrobat 9 on my MacBook Pro and have plenty of RAM. However, I can "Create PDF from Scanner" just the once. After that, Acrobat quits when I select Scan or quits if I cancel the scan.
    I have tried the following:
    1. Troubleshoot System Errors & Freezes
    2. New User account
    3. Recreated Preferences
    4. Booted from separate disk
    5. Repaired disk permissions
    6. Have no third party plug-ins installed
    7. Have run Repair Acrobat
    8. Changed Universal Access
    9. Defragmented disk & repaired files
    10. Safe Boot and reinstall Acrobat
Nothing has worked except when I clean install I can scan through Acrobat once.
I can scan from the scanner software - Lexmark 4850 - with a jpeg straight to Acrobat but want to try to solve the issue of scanning straight from the app.
    Thanks for your help people.
    Regards
    Paul

After I discovered my problem of quitting after completing the scan of the first side of a 2-sided document and decided to go to Adobe for help, I should have known I was in real trouble after following their instructions for locating the Acrobat serial number. After bringing up the splash screen and clicking on it, instead of seeing the number the splash screen disappeared! So I had no option but to use the phone. Then their help person couldn't give me the serial number- he had to transfer me- and I chose to stay with him for help instead. He decided it was a conflict between the Acrobat & HP software and ended the help session.
I then did some on-line research and discovered others with the same problem, and came up with the comparison test with the Windows version. Adobe's phone system didn't recognize my Case #, but the second Help person said it worked fine. At that point, I got the feeling that I was in real trouble. After another hour going over the same ground and repeated denials that their software was at fault, the Helper refused my request that they do a Windows comparison test or send me a Windows version to test myself and promised to call me back with results of their "research". That call never came.
On the third call, again with the Case # unrecognized by the phone system, the Helper was even more unhelpful, probably after reading the record of the first two calls. He insisted on going back to the machine and over the same ground once again, and I ended the call.
I agree that the on line approach is better, and I may have to make a double call to get the serial number (neither of the two I have, each different on the case or on the CD worked) and try that if my request for a supervisor fails. Fortunately they are so incompetent that they can't track starting over.
I'm not a programmer, but have lots of varying experience with computers dating back to the first Atari-400. Since your Acrobat uses only the Twain driver component from your scanner software, the first place to look for a problem is in the Acrobat software, especially since the software doesn't run again after the first use without reinstalling, and the scanner continues to perform properly using it's installed software. The Windows comparison test such as Tim Whitfield was able to make, would clearly establish the Mac version of the Acrobat software to be at fault, but would still not resolve our problems. Unfortunately I hold out little hope for either you or I with Adobe, since neither their phone nor the online help has come up with a prior fix. This indicates a bug fix requirement, which for something like this looks to be a relatively long time in coming.

  • Adobe v9 on W7 and office 2007. cannot create PDF from MS word using Adobe. But can from Excel, PPT

Adobe v9 on W7 and office 2007. cannot create PDF from MS word using Adobe. But can from Excel, PPT and other MS office apps. Reinslalled Adobe, updated Office, and Adobe no help! Also I can create a pdf from the MS Word and it is using the Adobe 9. So one would think that's good. No it isn't when you need to combine different files to one big PDF document. Any suggetions? Thank you

Yes, I’m saying that I can in WORD use “Save As ADOBE pdf” but cannot in ADOBE create a pdf file from a WORD (.doc or .docx) document. While I can from other MS Office apps like Excel and PowerPoint.
I understand I can use “work around” and save doc in WORD as pdf then compile all files needed (xml, ppt, pdf) in the ADOBE v9. to one big pdf document. But that is not the point of this post.

  • Creating pdf from clipboard does not import images or formatting

Creating PDF from clipboard works perfect in acrobat X however in acrobat XI no images are imported and the text just defaults to times roman font. My wife uses acrobat for her craft patterns and copies from the web all the time with no issues in Acrobat X. She tried it on Acrobat XI and it just looks like garbage. The text is there but the images that were copied along with the text are not. I have examples that she did using the exact same clipboard in both X and XI.

    Bill@VT wrote:
I guess I must not understand how you are transferring the items to the clipboard. Is the browser the same one you used with AA X?
Yes, I used the same browser (Chrome) with AA X and AA XI.
    Bill@VT wrote:
When I did it with AA XI, I used the mouse (on a PC) to select the text and figures in my browser and copied that info to the clipboard (ctrl-C on the PC and I assume similar on the MAC).
Yes, the procedure for copying info to the clipboard is similar for a Mac and a PC. I select the info (in this case, text and graphics) with the mouse, and can copy it to the clipboard with either Command-C (Mac equivalent of ctrl-C), or by right-clicking on the highlighted info and choosing "copy" from the pop-up window.  I do not have to use Print Screen in conjunction with this procedure. If I use Print Screen, it copies everything that my monitor displays and the results of a paste are an image.
Is there something I am missing about getting the web page parts wanted to the clipboard? If you clip the items into a graphics packages, does the graphics show up as desired?
No, you are not missing anything. All of the web page parts are in the clipboard. The problem is that only the text is showing up when I use the create PDF from clipboard option in AA XI. I do not have a graphics package installed; however, if I paste the clipboard contents into Word, both the text and graphics show up.
I checked the PDF created with my AA XI and found the text as text and the the graphic as graphic, not simply a graphic as you suggested. Is it possible the graphic is shown with a place holder or just space for the graphic. If that is the case, check the preferences that you have "view large images" turned on.
As I explained ad nauseum, the PDF I try to create with AA XI using create PDF from clipboard does not include the graphics; it only has the text. I just checked the preferences and "view large images" is turned on. I could not find any other preference settings that would seem to help with the problem I am having.
I can paste the clipboard contents directly into Word and print the document to a PDF. When I do that, though, I usually have to spend a lot of time editing the Word document, because the contents are not in the same format. The paragraphs are usually squashed together, or the photos are too large and I have to change the size. This just takes up more time than I have to spend.
The bottom line is that it seems to me Adobe must have changed something in the Mac version of AA XI that causes it to not work the same way it does in AA X. The PC version is obviously okay, because you are able to get the feature to work.
I guess I am going to have to give up on this problem and stick with using AA X.
Thanks again for all your help.

  • I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud

I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud option in Acrobat. Kindly help me to sortout this problems?

So I tried generating the same PDFs on two other computers that have Acrobat 9 Pro.  Results were reproduced.  The verdict is:
    - complex PDF files (that is, containing cross-references, tables of contents, and bookmarks) generated by Acrobat 9.x Pro are roughly 2-5x larger than the identical file generated with Acrobat 8.x Pro.
    - different PDF conversion settings make a negligable difference (less than 10% rather than 70-80%).
    - using the "Reduce File Size" or "Optimize PDF" option cuts the file size roughly in half, almost always resulting in a "image downsampling mask" warning message, which requires acknowledgement (that is a problem for batch processing or automation).
    - adding an Acrobat watermark to the file cuts the file size roughly in half.
    - just using Save As to another filename has no effect on file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 with links but no PDF bookmarks still results in the inflated file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 without any links or bookmarks results in approximately the same file size as the Acrobat 8 PDF with full links and bookmarks.
It appears that Acrobat 9's manner of adding links is what's bloating  the files, and in my case it's probably not related to images or image resolution/print quality.  It's a shame, because Acrobat 9 seems to have made some  improvements to the Review Tracker interface, and a few other bells and  whistles which I haven't really gotten around to exporing yet.  But  unless I find a way to keep my links and the PDF file sizes comparable to what I was  getting with Acrobat 8 Pro, it looks like I'm going to stay with Acrobat 8.

  • Create PDF from scanner using 8 and 10.5 or 10.6

Just curious what the solution is for Mac Acrobat  when trying to create a pdf from your scanner.
    I understand the Mac OS 10.5 + 10.6 changed it's twain support.
Once or twice I've create a pdf from a epson 1660 perfection scanner using Mac OS 10.4
Under File>Create PDF>From Scanner> and the list of scanners would show up.
I understand in 10.5 and 10.6 you can use image capture to achieve the same results.  I like the acrobate interface which allowed the continuation of pages being scanned into the same file name.
Did adobe address this issue in future updates or product lines is is that feature gone for good.
Is there anyway using 10.5 or 10.6 using adobe 8, 9 etc... that allows for this process to happen again?

The 1660 Perfection scanner (which I have) is not a OS X native scanner, it is PPC code. If you want to run it under OS 10.5 you need to run Acrobat under Rosetta. I don't believe that option exists for Acrobat under OS 10.6

  • Getting general error when saving site using "create PDF from"

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.0 for Mac, trying to save websites. This started working fine, but I had to shut down in the middle of a site being saved. Now when I try to save a site  using Web Capture/create PDF from I get a "general error, nothing was saved". What do I need to do, remove, replace, reinstall or whatever to get this feature working again?
Also can anyone tell me how to set the feature that saves web pages with the headers and footers showing date, time, URL, page title, etc. I often use the print feature (save to PDF) and up until a day or so ago it always saved with those headers and footers. Now they're missing, which is what prompted me to try saving entire sites, above. I remember setting these a long time ago and being able to choose what went on the left, right, header and footer, but I cannot find those settings now.
    Thanks,
    Michele

Well, after downloading Applejack, I am completely confused. I'm not sure I understand what will happen if I do any of these steps: see 3a.. "clean out all cache files including the Launch Services database and any cached User Pictures". What kinds of things will I lose? Can I choose only the Acrobat cache files?  I don't want to have to spend hours or days resetting things as I'm in the middle of a project with a close deadline. I also don't really understand fully what will happen with all the other things they discuss.  The instructions say (I just copied and pasted these):
    3.  Auto mode: You can let the script run through its tasks automatically by typing 'applejack auto'. If you want the machine to automatically restart at the end of its tasks, use 'applejack auto restart'. You can also tell the computer to shut down automatically at the end by using the command line 'applejack auto shutdown'.
3a. Deep Auto mode: If you want to let AppleJack clean out all cache files, including the Launch Services database and any cached User Pictures, use 'applejack AUTO' instead. Use this if you still have problems booting after running AppleJack already.
    4.  Interactive mode: To run through just one task, or to run the script manually, type 'applejack' and then choose tasks from the menu. Running the script in interactive mode has the benefit of giving you options for working with user level cache and preference files, not just the default system level caches and preferences. To select an option, type the highlighted number or letter associated with the action, and then hit return. Whenever you enter a choice in AppleJack, you will need to hit return for that choice to take effect.
    4.  Corrupted preference files are moved into a directory that will mirror the original preference directory, with (Corrupt) added to the directory name. For example, corrupt preferences files found in ~/Library/Preferences will be moved to ~/Library/Preferences (Corrupt). After running AppleJack, you'll probably want to take a look at them (and most likely throw out those folders). As of version 1.4.2, AppleJack now creates a copy of the directory tree inside the (Corrupt) folder so that if any files were deeply nested inside the original preference folder, they will be placed in an identical directory hierarchy in the new (Corrupt) folder. This way, if for any reason you would want to move a preference file back, you know where it should go.
    6.  AppleJack has a primitive logging mechanism. It writes a journal of most of its activity to /var/log/AppleJack.log. AppleJack will automatically reset the log the next time you run it, if the file should ever reach a size somewhat over 500k.

  • Question re Create PDF from Word doc

    Hi
I am trying to create a pdf from a Word document (Word 2007, Acrobat 8 Professional), and am having lots of trouble with images, fonts and document overhead. With the fonts, i generate the PDF by saying Create Pdf from the plugin in Word. I specify in the Preferences that fonts are not to be embedded. I then open the PDF and access PDF Optimiser -> Audit Space Usage, and it says that fonts take up like 20% of the document, however there are only like 10 lines of text in Arial (9pt), and 6 titles also in Arial (Bold). I dont understand why Font is taking up so much space considering that i have elected not to embed fonts (if i go to the Fonts section in the Optimiser, it shows both embedded and unembedded panes blank).
With the images, i have 2 jpegs in the footer, that are compressed (JPEG -> Low). The other thing i am struggling with is the headers and footers, if i generate the PDF from the Word doc with Headers/Footers, then images take up over 15% of the document. Not sure if there is a way to add headers and footers within minimum impact of filesize? I have tried checking everything in the 3 categories of Dicard Objects, Discard User data and Clean Up. but the Document Overhead remains at 35%.
What else can i do to get these filesizes reduced?I have been researching this for days and have not come across anything that has helped.I have tried to PDF print, i have changed the font to like Courier, ensured no thumbnails or bookmarks, ensured JPEGs are not embedded in the doc, tried Save As, Save As under a different filename - basically anthing you can find on the net i have found and tried, but still cant fix this!!!! please, if anyone knows acrobate 8 better than me / or knows what the problem is, please advise????
    Thanks very much.

The colors and size in a graphic needs to be done in a graphics editor. What type of editor would depend on the use of vector graphics versus bitmap. Sometimes vector graphics are larger than bitmaps if you are using a lot of lines that would display better as just a splotch of color. Such are the variations between vector and bitmap graphics, but important if you are looking for size reduction. For a bitmap, I would do the sizing and color depth with IrfanView, but you should be able to do that with PhotoShop if you have it. Vector graphics can be adjusted in Illustrator. The size of vector graphics is not an issue since they are scalable, but the size of a bitmap is important since your are looking at individual pixels and that depends on size. The point is that if you can adjust the color depth and size for the desired pixel resolution, the bitmap is optimized for the conversion to PDF from WORD.
As I mentioned, the smallest file size job options should minimize font storage in the PDF. Checking with the PDF Optimizer does not always give you all of the fonts. I am not sure why. It is better to check the font tab in the document properties to see what has been embedded. There is a preflight macro to embed fonts, you might check to see if there is one to delete fonts (I have not checked on that). Sometimes you can play with the reprint of a PDF, but that is not an option that is generally recommended, particularly if you have any tagging or such. Of course, tagging can really bloat a PDF, but is needed for a variety of reasons such as format for saving back to WORD (not a great workflow), accessability, and related issues. In another topic, there is some discussion of the purposes of tagging and bookmarks. However, the tags and bookmarks take space if that is really an issue for you. The latter are avoided if you use the print to the Adobe PDF printer and do not use PDF Maker in the PDF creation process. Again, there is a trade-off here in terms of size and functionality, particularly accessibility compliance.
Not sure I am helping as I run on, but sort what might be useful for you.

  • Can't create PDF from Word file

I may be missing some functionality or that functionality may not exist.
I'm running Acrobat Pro 9.2 and MS Word 2004 (11.5) on OSX Leopard 10.5.8. I want to create a PDF from a Word file but NOT using the Print dialog. I want to either create it in Acrobat using File > Create PDF > From File or create it from within Word using the Acrobat menu/toolbar. This is so that it will end up as a tagged PDF.
However, I don't have an Acrobat menu or toolbar in Word. I thought Acrobat was supposed to have installed these into MS Office when I installed Acrobat. And when within Acrobat if I select File > Create PDF > From File and choose a Word file, I get a message "Acrobat could not open 'filename.doc' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged". This happens for all Word files.
Looking in Acrobat > About Adobe Plug-Ins... under Convert2AdobePDF it says 'Loaded: no'.
Are these two methods of converting Word files to PDFs something that can only be done in the Windows version of Acrobat? Or is there a plug-in or update I can download to install this missing functionality?
    Thanks for your help,
    Mark

Keep your Office2004. But Office 2008 does have a way to create PDF's from within  the word and excel Programs.
It works better than through the AdobePDF Printer, or through the Apple Print menus save as PDF. (Unless you have X.6.x Snow leopard)
One thing it gets around is a long standing Problem Acrobat has had with word and excel since Word 6.0.1.a/Excel 5.0.1a. Acrobat doesn't know how to interpert Word Page section Breaks. Chopping up a word/excel document in to multiple PDFs that have to be merged back together. MS came up with their own PDF Converter that gets around that problem.
