Creating scientific articles in Adobe DPS

Dear community,
When creating documents with many references (in my case over 100), is there a smart wat to present them and navigate them that does not entail creating a seperate article for each and every one of the reference documents. In this case assuming that the references need to be present in their entirety within the folio/app.
Anyone with experience on this issue or have any ideas?
Best,
kim

"When creating either a button or hyperlink, you can replace “http://” with “navto://” in the URL field. Then specify the target article name as it appears in the Folio Builder panel. Use the Article Name value, not the article’s Title value. Valid navto formats include navto://[articlename] and navto://[articlename]#n. Adding #n specifies a page number. The first page of a document is 0, so specifying #2 jumps to page 3."

So if you start each of the reference document from the new page (assuming you enter all of them right after the end of document and list of references) and at the end will have link back to the list of references at the end of the document:
document
list of references (=links to 1st pages of the reference documents)
p1 of reference document#1
link back to the list of references
p1 of reference document#2
link back to the list of references

  • Can you create an app using Adobe DPS, then pass the Folio to a programmer to add interactivity?

    I'd like to know if I can create an app using Adobe DPS, then pass the folio to a programmer to add advanced interactivity that DPS doesn't provide. I would like the programmer to use either XCode or Android SDK because it is a standard, but they can also use C#, JavaScript, and several other coding languages. The folio would serve the purpose of a tight digital comp for the programmer.

    Thanks for your help Bob! I found this article on the Adobe site. Figured I'd share it. http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/import-html-articles.html

  • Creating an app with Adobe DPS

    Dear all,
    I am very familiar with the work flows and processes involved when using DPS. But i have not yet finished and concluded a workflow.
    What I need to know is whether it is possible to create an app that does not neccesarily go into the App store. Is it possible to distribute along other channels. Basically, I need to know the output format of Adobe app builder. What steps are there in this fase of the workflow? And do I end up with an .ipa or how does it wrap up?
    Does this question make sense?
    Than you in advance,
    Kim

    With a pro account you get a .ipa file and a .zip file. The ipa file is for testing so the devices that you add in the apple developer account ( max 100 in a year ) can all install the ipa file. The .zip is for submitting to apple.
    In the enterprise edition for DPS you can create enterprise signed builds that can be installed on any Ipad within the organization. ( no limit to the number of devices you can install it to. )

  • Creating scrollable text with Adobe DPS

    I'm using the Overlay creator panel to build a vertical scrolling text panel on a page. As I am saving the folio as a PDF the text within the scrolling (pan) container looks different to the non scrolling text columns. I assume this is because the pan function is converted to PNG or JPG and not built as PDF. Is there a way to build scrolling text panels and retain the sharp scalable PDF text? The only solution I can see is to build the folio as a PNG which withh mean larger file sizes. Help!

    You're correct, the text inside the scrolling container is getting rasterized at folio creation time, whereas the rest of the text is getting rendered at display time by the PDF engine on the device. This will result in slight differences in appearance on the device, however if you are creating your folios correctly it shouldn't be a sharpness difference.
    Are you trying to create content for the new iPad? If so, make sure you are creating your folio in folio builder at 2048x1536. When you add the InDesign document as a PDF article to a folio that size we will rasterize the scrollable frame content at a resolution high enough to look sharp on the new iPad.

  • Uploading Apps Problem from adobe DPS to Apple Application Loader

    I have create an apps from adobe DPS builder, but when i upload via application loader, it show the dialogue box as below. What does it means? Any solution to solve this out? Thanks.

    I know absolutely nothing about DPS, but the error looks pretty self-explanatory to me. You can't use non-roman glyphs in your file names.

  • How can I replace an existing app on iTunes that was created with PhoneGap to a new version created with Adobe DPS? I get a 'supported devices' error message when I try to upload to iTunes! HELP!

    I created an app using PhoneGap a couple of months ago, and have now just amended it using Adobe DPS. But when I come to upload it to iTunes, I get the error message "This bundle does not support on or more of the device supported by the previous app version" How can I correct this?

    I suspect your PhoneGap app was flagged as running on both iPad and iPhone. You'll need the same from DPS. You can do this in AppBuilder at the start of the wizard where it asks what kind of devices you want to support. Note that this is only available to DPS Professional and Enterprise customers. If you are a Creative Cloud customer building a Single Edition application it will only support iPad.

  • Can you create apps after 1st May 2015 using Adobe DPS single edition?

    Can you create apps after 1st May 2015 using Adobe DPS single edition?
    I currently have SE via creatieve cloud - one of the only reasons we switched to CC was for the DPS SE.
    Does anyone know if this capability will just be 'switched off' at midnight 1st May 2015?? There are huge costs for going the enterprise route but with no date in sight for Publish to be launched I am not sure I can wait for this, or should I???

    Adobe states: Please note that the Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition, service will be available for use until May 1, 2015, but beyond that date the service will no longer be available.
    So essentially my licence will expire on 1st May - Adobe's note just mentions 'service' -  even though part of CC and I will not be able to maintain my app or create any more IPA's after 1st May. I can't beleive there is nothing to switch over to other than paying thousands of pounds for enterprise??
    Just all so vauge, feels like a plug is going to be pulled and thats it??? Maybe I am missing something?

  • Creating and releasing (for private use) an app with Adobe DPS

    Dear all,
    I am creating an app for iOS devices with Adobe DPS.
    It will be a private app; I don't want it to be viewable on the app store. I only want to get a .ipa file so that I can send it to my contacts and the can install it on their devices through iTunes.
    Honestly I'm a bit lost. It's the first time I'll have to face all of this.
    I don't really know how to proceed for a private app. I guess even if it's not available on appstore, the app still have to be approved by Apple ? or am I wrong ? What are the steps to go through in order to get the .ipa file ?
    Do I have to follow the same step-by-step tutorial as for a common app ?
    Any advice from someone who have already faced the same kind of situation, or from anyone who knows a bit about all of this is very very welcome…
    Thanks all for your time.
    Best regards.

  • Defaulting fonts when viewing DPS articles in Adobe Content Viewer

    Hi.
    My fonts are defaulting throughout my folio when I view articles in Adobe content viewer.
    This folio is a PDF. I have published before and not had this issue.
    Is the problem with Content Viewer?
    Will the type display correctly when I publish this folio and view in app?
    Thank you.

    When a font is missing or unlinked that font shows up as a default font.
    The fonts in these documents are not missing or unlinked.
    When I update the article it fixes the problem, but only temporarily.
    The fonts default the next time I view the article.

  • How do i print from an app created with adobe dps from my ipad

    I know Apple's own iOS apps can print from iPads and iPhones using AirPrint.
    How do I enable support for printing from an Adobe DPS app on an iPad or iPhone

    Neil,
    Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I was able to do this in the past, but it no longer works (probably because something changed in an update). We needed a folio in our app to be able to download and print a PDF. I set up a web page with a poster image placeholder that, when tapped (or clicked in a web browser) would download the PDF, display it, and from there you could print it. Tested successfully in both a live mulit-folio app and Adobe Content Viewer. It's been a while (almost a year) since we tested this, and I returned to it because a customer is asking for that, and found that it no longer works. I can't remember the last step (the "print it" step) and how it was invoked, but I think it was via the iOS share icon (the square with the arrow poking out the top) that no longer presents in the app. Am I going crazy, or is this something that was consciously shelved by Adobe? We really need this to work!
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Mix native iOS development with Adobe DPS created iPad apps

    Is it possible to mix programmtic elements into an app developed with the Adobe DPS tools?
    Although one can hook up buttons and gestures for slide shows, as I've seen in some of the videos, I need to build a hybrid app where a section of the app hands control over to a native IOS built set of components.
    I'm coming from the iOS development side of things, so I know little of the capabilities of a client's InDesign and DPS toolset, except that I haven't found resources to do anything beyond simple interactions within DPS.

    No, you can't include native iOS components in a DPS publication. For extensibility people tend to write HTML5 content and include that in a web overlay.

  • Adobe DPS HTML/Javascript/CSS Web Console: why it is so difficult?

    Why?
    This is the type of question that i can not understand. Is it that difficult to make? Maybe an airpor to Google Chrome Adobe Edge Inspect? I have many files well written with CoffeeScript, that uses RequireJS, that is impossibile to forget a semicolon etc. that works like a charm on Google Chrome (desktop, AND Chrome iPad, AND Chrome Android). That works like a charm in the native iPad/iPhone web browser and in the native Android browser. But it didnt in Adobe DPS. And guess what: i cant find why it doesnt, because Adobe doesnt have a simple Web Console inside DPS / InDesign.
    Is there any news on this field? Because using Adobe Edge Inspect is not a option: my code works inside EI because im browsing the page with my desktop browser. I want to know what is going on inside DPS.
    And my code it is not "soooo" advanced. It is just a simple button with "on touchstart" event listener. Am i doing some stupid error? Fine! Just help me find out what it is, so i can fix it. Because in every single browser i tried, it works. But inside DPS. A sample code? Sure, here you go:
    [Javascript Code]
    Main.prototype.clicks = function() {
            var _this = this;
            $('#btnA').on('touchstart', function(evt) {
              evt.preventDefault();
              _this.buy('productA');
              return false;
            $('#btnB').on('touchstart', function() {
              return _this.buy('productB');
            return $('#clear_data').on('touchstart', function() {
              return _this.clearData();
    [/Javascript Code]
    The Javascript above is being generated by Node.JS compiling a CoffeeScript file. The buttons do work at DPS for iPad, but doesnt on Android. Maybe Android has a problem with 'touchstart'. Maybe jQuery has a problem inside Adobe DPS. But who knows? I dont have a decent web console inspector to check what is going on. Really frustrating.
    Maybe Apple and Google dont give the neccessary hooks to implement the web console? But if you can do the Inspector from the desktop to the device, why not from the device to the desktop? Am i missing something on Edge Inspect? The strange part is: the above code works well on Edge Inspect but doesnt work on Android DPS.
    Sorry if im a little angry or pissed. But this would be really great: a simple web inspector: HTML, Javascript, CSS. A way to inspect the <head> tag of the HTML, what was loaded, in what order. What script is missing, Javascript breakpoints, etc.
    Thank you.

    There is this one little widget called Safari Web Inspector, provided that you're using a Mac: https://developer.apple.com/library/safari/documentation/AppleApplications/Conceptual/Safa ri_Developer_Guide/Introduction/Introduction.html.
    Besides, referring to http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/kb/create-html-articles-android-viewers.ht ml, you can give window.onappear a try when you are doing JS initialization.

  • Adobe DPS - Multiple computer sync

    I work on three computers (work, home and laptop) and I want to know the best working practice when it comes to Adobe DPS. Basically how do I keep all the documents, folios and articles in sync on all three computers. I subscribe to Creative Cloud so I'm sure there's a way of doing it but I haven't stumbled across it yet.

    Are you creating your folios offline? If so they won't show up on the other compuer. Either use the flyout menu on the folio to upload it, or when you create the folio in the first place make sure the option is set properly in the new folio dialog so it is an online folio.
    As Bob mentions you'll still have to relink the articles on the other machine, which can be a bit of a pain. From a workflow standpoint you are likely better off waiting to build the folio proper until you're happy with each article design. Then use one computer to make the final folio (perhaps via a sidecar.xml to make it easy to recreate again if you have to).

  • TransactionCannotConnectToServerError - Adobe DPS - Library and Store SDK 2.30

    Hi
    Adobe DPS - Library and Store SDK 2.30
    What does the adobeDPS-TransactionErrorType.TransactionCannotConnectToServerError  mean?
    I wanted to run a login request throught the authentication service. Our entitlement server sends back the authentication token with a status code 200 but the authentication is incorrect because if this transaction error.
    adobeDPS-TransactionErrorType.TransactionCannotConnectToServerError
       Value: -110
    Indicates the Library could not connect to the particular server needed to complete a transaction.
    Thanks,
    Peter

    This line in Colin's video is incorrect:
    "Access to Store/Library API creates new possibilities in an article"
    The information in the articles is correct. Specifically, if you launch the Information Screen from within an HTML article or a Web Content overlay, you reference the Reading APIs. If you launch the Information Screen from within an entitlement banner, a custom library, or a custom slot, you reference the Library/Store APIs.
