Creating stills in photoshop cs2 for 16:9 HDTV

Hi,
I've been reading posts regarding creating stills and still need some clarification. I'm from a print world, so dealing with square pixels vs. non square, hdv, vs dv widescreen is all a bit confusing....
I've been to this link: http://www.fcpbook.com/Photoshop1.html and several others, plus reading the manuals which all have been helpful, but each instance deals with different specs, not necessarily what I've listed below.
First, I am creating the stills for 16:9 viewing on a hidef tv (1080). The FCE HD project is an animated, narrated story with overlays, keyframe motion and some limited effects.
Here are my questions:
1. In creating my original photoshop template: should I use pshop's presets under "new document":
HDV, 1920 x 1080 (with guides) and if yes, what should the aspect ratio be set at? Square or HDV anamorphic? (When I do "HDV anamorphic" I get a squashed look in FCE, with "square" it looks good.)
2. Saving the photoshop file to be imported into FCE, would it be better to save as a jpg, or photoshop or other format? I've been reading differing opinions as to which...
3. Once I create this template (above) can I crop down the still if it doesn't fill the entire photoshop template (I will have some overlays that will not require a full frame in FCE).
4. some images will be enlarged in FCE. Instead of enlarging them in FCE, should I be enlarging them in photoshop? should I be enlarging exponentially, ie doubling the size of my original photoshop template? And if I'm enlarging them less than 150% in FCE, would the image lose it's sharpness at that enlargement?
5. And finally, I've already created some of the stills in photoshop using the photoshop presets for HDV 1920 x 1080, pixel aspect: square and brought them into FCE. Is WYSWYG in the FCE's canvas window what I'll be seeing on my TV monitor (16:9 1080 HDTV). The images are not squashed and look great, but I'm not sure if that's what I'll end up with when I finally view on my tv.
Thanks for any help!

1. If you're working in FCE in a 1920x1080 sequence then that's what you should make in Photoshop, square pixels not HDV.
2. Save as Photoshop, TIFF, or PNG, not JPEG.
3. Yes.
4. Enlarge in Photoshop if they have to be enlarged. You should never double the size of an image. It will quickly start to deteriorate, especially when it's re-compressed. You'll have to live with it not being full size. You should never enlarge an image more than 115%. It will start to soften and make encoding more difficult.
5. No. The Canvas is a lo res representation of the final output. For professional work most editors use an external video monitor to view their material. This can't be done unfortunately in FCE with HD material.

  • I work for a funeral home that has used Photoshop CS2 for years.

I work for a funeral home that has used Photoshop CS2 for years.  Within this program, we were able to upload a background "file" with themes - i.e., spring flowers, fall leaves, etc.  We would scan in pictures given to us by the deceased's family and "place" these on top of the background slide.  We then used a software program, Nero, to create a slide show with music to play during the viewing.  I've spent some time looking over the products and do not see one that will allow us to continue this very simple practice.  I would appreciate the opportunity to speak to someone about this.  Thank you.

Newer versions of Photoshop have new feature that CS2 does not have. However CC 2014 like CS2 does not have a slide show with sound feature.  I have a Windows 7 Pro system. Have CS2, CS6, CC and CC 2014 installed.  You need and Updated CS2 Installer to install CS2 on windows.  CS2 is a 32 bit Photoshop there is no CS2 version that will run on new Mac computers their 64 Bit OS offered no 32bit options.
A $10 a month subscription will keep up to date with the latest Photoshop.  Your other option is to buy CS6 for $700.  CS6 is no longer supported it just marketed as is.

That because the activation servers were retired. Now for the good news:
Adobe has provided a non-activation version of Photoshop CS2 free of charge for their CS2 license holders.
Download the Mac version of Photoshop (not the suite) and copy down the serial number next to it.  Do not use your original serial number or cs2 disc.
Download Acrobat 7 and CS2 products
Uh... one more thing CS2 is PPC only.  OSX 10.6.8 has Rosetta to run legacy PPC products. 10.7 and above will not.
    Good luck,

There is no free version of CS2.  There is only a special version of CS2 available for people who purchased it and need to reinstall it.

  • How do i fix my photoshop cs2 for windows 7?

I got a new comp thats is running windows 7 and installed my photoshop cs2 software and at first everything seemed fine until i noticed some differences in the performance. When i try to draw witht he brush tool it is way to slow, for example i draw a line and i pick up the mouse but the photoshop is still drawing the line that should have been done in one mouse stroke. This is very annoying and it makes it difficult to draw and create things. Also the registration form pops up every single time i open photoshop and even though i keep registering or click do not register that window just keeps showing up. My computer has 8GB of ram and 1 TB of hard drive so its not a memory issue. If anyone knows any solution please help.

You are not running as administrator, I think, which may be required and the only way to properly work and register. Also check for compatibility mode settings, UAC and DEP, all of which may require to be adjusted for a legacy app like PS CS2 to run properly. Also turn off Aero and switch to a conventional visual theme. The brush issue may be related to that or is a more generic problem with your graphics card and mouse config, but since you didn't provide any info on that, it will be hard for anyone to advise.

  • Anyone in PAL land create custom menus in CS2 FOR DVDSPro 4 for 16:9?

Anyone in PAL land create custom menus in DVDSPro 4 for 16:9?
I need help with Photoshop into DVDSpro4 concerning quality of logos and graphics and what presets to use in Photoshop CS2
    Thanks!

    Hi Allister,
Thats what you should be seeing. The pixel count for both 4:3 and 16:9 are the same. It's the pixel aspect ratio which change. Unfortunately Quicktime doesn't have an aspect ratio flag setting. Hence you get your stretched look.
With respect to the DVDSP settings. As far as I am aware Pan / Scan in DVDSP is still faulty. But it was DVDSP 3 when I last checked this. So, letterbox is the choice for you.
    Good Luck

  • Can i get Adobe Photoshop CS2 for free of cost?

I have came across that photoshop cs2 is coming legally free of cost

As gener7 has pointed out there is no "free Photoshop CS2", it has been made available for people who hold legitimate licenses for versions affected by the activation server having been taken offline and a lot of people seem to have misunderstood that.
While it may be tempting to ignore the distinction it may be worth considering that Photoshop is still the product of other persons’ efforts (no matter how the profits are being distributed between the corporation Adobe and the individual developers etc.) – supposing you do produce images yourself (as a photographer, designer, illustrator, …) how would you feel about people assuming because you publish them online they are theirs to use for free?
Maybe you should consider using the free image editing application Gimp if your economical circumstances should not allow for purchasing a Photoshop license currently.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 for free?

I´ve heard that Adobe Photoshop CS2 is now available for free. Is that right and where am I able to download it? Thanks a lot

Because their online activation servers had to be shut down, Adobe released a version of Photoshop CS2 that avoids online activation for existing license holders so that they can continue to use the software they purchased a license for.
A lot of web sites reported that this was tantamount to it suddenly being "given away for free".
    It's not.
Using it without a license is tantamount to walking out with merchandise from a store just because it's not in a locked cabinet and you can pick it up with your hands.
    Sorry for the bad news.

  • Downloading adobe photoshop cs2 for free

I am living in USA. Can I download and install free adobe photoshop cs2??? because its old version. and I have found through google to download for free.

The free download for CS2 products is for licensed users to replace their previous versions that required activation and can no longer be installed becasue the activation servers are shut down. Anyone else who uses the installers is commiting a crime.

  • Photoshop CS2 for Mac

Hi, I am new to Apple. On my PC I had Adobe Photoshop CS2. Does anyone know if I can find that for my apple? In the later versions they do not have the tool I use. Thank you.

    Hi Mistygris;
My experience with Photoshop goes back to PS CS and goes up through PS CS3. So far it has been my experience that each new version only added to what came before. Having said that the way you get this accomplished has changed and it can be a bit of a trick finding everything.
I would be really interested in hearing what tool is missing.

  • XMP doesn't display proper info in Photoshop CS2 for Mac.

    Dear List members:
I have just recently installed Creative Suite CS2 and begun to explore the functionality of XMP. After purchasing Bruce Fraser's book on Camera Raw for CS2, I downloaded Metalab (Pound Hill Software) and created my first custom XMP panel that can be seen under the file info in Photoshop when an image (digital photo) is open.
The problem is that I noticed a few odd things and began to question myself if there is some kind of bug or a problem with my installation of CS2.
    1. The window that opens under the file info command has several categories of information on the left to be chosen from, in the following order:
    (1)Description, (2)Camera Data 1, (3)Camera Data 2, (4)Categories, (5)History, (6)IPTC Contact, (7)IPTC Content, (8)IPTC Image, (9)IPTC Status, (10)Adobe Stock Photos, (11)Origin, (12)Advanced
The Camera Data 1 option when selected opens a panel in the file info window that seems to contain all the information it is supposed to contain. The Camera Data 2 panel, on the other hand, doesn't display any information at all. Although the fields are there, they are empty. The fields are:
    (1)Pixel Dimension X and Y, (2)Orientation, (3)Resolution X and Y, (4)Resolution Unit, (5)Compressed Bits per Pixel, (6)Color Space, (7)Light Source, (8)File Source.
All these fields are empty but when looking at the same file under Bridge the information is there, displayed under the metadata menu.
This is something I noticed "before" installing Metalab so I know it is not a compatibility issue generated by the installation of the software.
After installing CS2 I noticed that CS1 remained installed in my system. The version I purchased of CS2 is the upgrade one. Since I have no use for CS1 as I am now totally converted to CS2, I would like to uninstall CS1. The following are some of the questions I have:
    1. How can I uninstall CS1 without causing any problems to my installation of CS1 ? Is there an uninstall utility with the software or will I have to uninstall the entire package manually ?
    2. My G5 came with only one internal 160 GB drive where I originally installed CS1. I then purchased another internal 400 GB HD and copied the original drive onto it. This week I am going to replace the original 160 GB drive with a second 400 GB drive so that I can do regular "mirror image" back-ups between the two drives. Shold I expect any problems as I remove the drive where I originally installed CS1 ? Since I used disk utility to "copy" the 160 GB drive onto the 400 GB drive, my understanding it that any Adobe software key or authorization was also transferred to the drive. Is this right ? In case it hasn't, how can I transfer this information so that after I remove the 160 GB drive I will not experience any problems when trying to run CS2 ?
    3. How can I fix the problem with the Camera Data 2 panel under the file info window and command ? I noticed that the folder that is supposed to hold the Custom File Info Panels (HD>Library>Application Support>Adobe>XMP>Custom File Info Panels) has files for CS1 and CS2. Could this be a problem ? There many more files with .dat extenson than there are with the .txt extension. Bruce Fraser specifically says that the ones with the .txt extension are the ones that hold the XMP templates for information related to the image files. The files I have in this folder with the .txt are:
    (1)Camera1_CS2.txt , (2)Camera1.txt , (3)Camera2_CS2.txt , (4)Camera2.txt , (5)Categories.txt , (6)History.txt , (7)IPTC_Contact.txt , (8)IPTC_Content.txt , (9)IPTC_Image.txt , (10)IPTC_Status.txt , (11)StockPhotoInfo.txt
The only ones that have two separate files one each for CS1 ad CS2 are Camera 1 and Camera 2. Camera 2 seems to be the only that is now non-functional. What should I expect to happen if I were to manually uninstall the ones that relate to CS1 ? Could that cause any problems ?
My apologies for the long post but I didn't really know how to make it shorter.

The Photoshop and/or Bridge forums would be more likely places to get answers to your questions. This forum is inhabited more by programmer types interested in implementing the XMP specification in applications we write.
I'd expect CS2 to ignore CS1 panels so I doubt that's the issue. Panels don't interfere with each other--they just offer different views of the data. In any case, move the extra panels to your desktop and see what happens.
As far as I know, all you need to do on the Mac is drag the CS1 application folder to the trash to uninstall it.

  • I have Adobe Photoshop cs2 for windows.

Considering getting a Mac but first see if I have to purchase the one for Apple or will they let me convert from windows to a mac version

The correct answer would be that you need to request a Cross-Grade from Adobe customer service and pay for the upgrade to CS5 for the Mac ($200), and forfeit your license to your Windows version of Photoshop.
If you want to keep using your CS2 Windows copy, then you have to buy a full version of CS5 for the Mac at full price ($700).
Hurry up,  CS2 will be out of the upgrade loop very soon, as soon as CS6 is announced.
