Creating Waterfall Chart view on OBIEE Answers

Hello guys
Is it possible to create waterfall Chart view on OBIEE answers?
The idea is to show the differences in number between bars at the chart.
Please let me know how it can be done

Waterfall chart is not yet defined in OBIEE, But internal Corda Pop Chart engine allows you to develop new chart types. Look for Cords Pop Chart documentation in OracleBI\corda50\docs. But you need to do a feasibility study on what you get for how much work?

Area Chart View in OBIEE 10 g

I have a Area chart view which shows sales volume by Product by Time. Time Dimension is plotted on X axis and Product is used as Legends (Measure Labels in Pivot Table Chart View). The Problem is user wants to display the Legends as Data Labels on Rollover. Right now when we roll over we will see Sales Volume. Is there any work around for this?

Hi,
Drill in place should work. Because that is the purpose of it. Try one thing- Keep one single report in the section and give drill in place and check.
If this is not working then you need to create a separate page and give navigation to that page, so that the report appears to be in the same page.

Different view in OBIEE answers

Hi,
I am new to OBIEE.Plz help.
In answers i go to criteria and select few columns For Ex:Department,Region and sales and then click on results tab to see the result.
now similarly i create pivot view and give the compound layout to see both views.
Now in the same compound layout i want another table alongside my previous table and pivot view.
but i want different columns for that table.For ex: i want Department,City and Cost columns in my table and i want all the three to be shown in the same compound layout.
Is that possible?
I have been trying to do that but whenever i change the columns in criteria for one table,the previous table columns alo get changed.
Can someone plz help me out with this?

Hi what i said is
create a table view with columns for both the reports.
in your compound layout duplicate the table view and create the second table view.
now in your first table hide the second table columns and in your second table hide the first table columns.
(you can also use pivot view as second table).
but the results will not be exact. you need to do lots of manipulations to achieve the expected results. And it also depends on your requirements. if your requirement is complex then forget this and go for the dashboard page with individual request from two reports.

Displaying bar chart conditionally in OBIEE answers

Hello All,
I've a simple bar chart having one measure in x-axis and two measures in y-axis.
I want to add a conditional formatting for the two measures scaled in y-axis.
If first measure is greater than second measure, then i want the first measure to be displayed in red color.
Please help.

Hi Dinesh,
Create a dummy column -> fx write a case statement case when first measure > second measure then 1 elso 0 end
and chart -> Format chart data -> conditional tab -> Add Condition -> select your column on condition (dummy column equal to 1 then red color....)

MS Excel as data source - Cannot create chart views

Hi,
I created a model with sql server and excel as the data sources. Most of the numerical data is coming from excel.
In Answers, I created a table view and it showed me all the data (Eg months, budget amount, plan amount, actuals amount ). But when I tried to create a chart view, it is giving me an error like it requires atleast one measure to create or draw a chart. I am taking Month on x -axis ad all the other columns like budget, plan , actual on y axis.
Not sure y its behaving like this
Did anyone encoured similar issue?

Events can be used in CE to trigger one report after another.
In CMC, define a new event, Schedule type, based on success. Then schedule your first report, setting Events to Trigger Upon Completion to include this new event. Sechedule your second report to run at the same time, except select the new event in the Events to Wait For section. The second report will wait until the first report completes successfully before starting to execute.
Another possible way is to use Object Packages. However, if such a package is run on a report server that allows multiple reports to run simultaneously, I think the multiple reports in the package will run at the same time. (This would have to be verified, as I am not positive.) But if the report server that the object package is scheduled to run under was single threaded, they would probably execute in order.

Waterfall Charts in Webi

Hi All,
Does anyone know how to create a Waterfall Chart in Webi... it is not a standard chart type in Webi, yet it is possible in Crystal Reports or Xcelsius...but I need a Webi solution to this chart type.
Any ideas on how to create this in Webi will be welcome.

1.Create a table in DB with 2 fields, CONCEPT and YEAR. Feed it like this:
   INCOMES                    2009
   DIRECT EXPENSES     2009
   INDIRECT EXPENSES 2009
2.Include this new table in Universe and link it with FACT_TABLE.YEAR ===> NEW_TABLE.YEAR
3.Create in universe 3 objects: Concept (dimension) Visible(measure) NotVisible(measure)
4.The query of these objects will be:
   a)Concept : NEW_TABLE.CONCEPT
   b)Visible: sum(DECODE   (NEW_TABLE.CONCEPT,'INCOMES',FACT_TABLE.INCOMES,
                                                                                'DIRECT EXPENSES', FACT_TABLE.DIRECT_EXPENSES
                                                                                'INDIRECT EXPENSES', FACT_TABLE.INDIRECT_EXPENSES))
c)NotVisible: its the same concept as Visible, here you have to think like this..."If CONCEPT is x, whats under it (abc)? if CONCEPT is y what´s under it? (def)
We have created 2 measures, visible will be colour blue and invisible will be white. Change the order of colours in the palette of data (properties of the graph)
5.Now just create a stack bars graph and add these new 3 objects of universe (Concept, Visible, NotVisible)
You will have to tune the order of position of measures, to quit backgroud colours and these things to simulate the effect of waterfall chart.

Chart View doesn't work in portal

I've the following problem. I created a chart view in an iView. In the
preview in VC it works fine but after deploying the iView to the portal
the chart view is empty.
Second question: can a chart view display negative values?

Why waterfall chart is available in Xcelsius 2008 but not in 2011?

Hello there,
I used to use Xcelsius 2008 engage to create waterfall chart. But I found the waterfall chart is not available in Xcelsius 2011. I checked both Xcelsius Presentation Design 2011 & Xcelsius Dashboard Departmental 2011, both edition don't have waterfall chart?!!
why a newer version doesn't have this function?

Hi Gloria,
Dashboard Design 4.0 (Xcelsius presentation design 2011) was coded before and was in the ram-up stage from last year.
Waterfall chart was added as new component in Xcelsius 2008 SP4 which was in Q2 this year. You would see the chart present in Xcelsius 2011 next release(i.e. Dashboard design 4.1).

Need help in creating a Waterfall Chart

I have a requirement where in which I need to create a waterfall chart. In this chart we need the sales value for a Brand for two years, (say 2010 and 2009) and also need to plot the growth of the various sub-brands that come under that brand. Some dummy
data to explain my scenario follows.

In my chart it has to be a vertical bar chart, 1st line should be MAT 09, then the growth values should be plotted, but the axis for that will not be 0, rather start at the value of MAT09.
I am unable to paste a dummy chart here. :(
Can anyone throw any inputs as to how it can be achieved.

I am a little confused about the layout of your waterfall chart, could you please post some dummy chart here, with a clear
understanding with the issue, we could give some solution or workarounds, the steps of uploading the picture are following:
1.
Upload the picture to a website
http://skydriver.live.com
2.
View the picture in the website.
3.
Right-click the picture, and then select “Copy”
4.
In reply window, select “Paste” to paste the picture into a post.

Error while trying to setup waterfall Chart in OBIEE 11.1.1.6.7

I am working on the OBIEE 11.1.1.6.7 version. This upgrade to 11.1.1.6.7 was done recently from 11.1.1.6.2 version by running the latest patch downloads using Opatch functionality.
Recently we had a requirement and I am trying to set up waterfall chart in this new 11.1.1.6.7 environment.
I added the below code snippet in the instanceconfig.xml file.

Creating an Opaque view for generating the Action Link URL in OBIEE EBS int

Do we have to Creating an Opaque view for generating the Action Link URL in OBIEE Oracle E-Business Suite integration if we are not using BI Applications(DAC). We built our Repository on Materialized views we were using with Discoverer so I'm not sure if we have to do the part that creates an Opaque view in our integration of EBS 11i with OBIEE.

Create opaque view in OBIEE with multiple tables

Hi,
I need some help with the opaque view since i have never created it in past. I want to create an opaque view which fetches data from multiple tables. Is it possible to do that ? Or is there any other alternate option available in OBIEE ? I read the following blog and other similar blogs on opaque views but could not find option to use it for query with multiple tables:

As per my knowledge you can create Opaque View on one table at a time.Joining two tables from different databases yes we can create a report from multiple data sources.Check this

OBIEE answers Analysis new view socket error

Hi all
We are currently using OBIEE 11.1.1.7.131017. We are using Essbase as a source to develop reports and receive the following error when we create a pivot View (or any other view) using an existing Analysis result set in Analytics.
Odbc driver returned an error SQLFetchScroll. State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC][SQL_STATE: HY000][nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 12002] Socket communication error at call=recv: (Number=10054) An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. (HY000)
The results section only contains a few records and returns the results within a few seconds. It is when a new view is created from the Analysis' result that the error occurs.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?

Hi,
Lets try like this,
Open your rpd in online mode and double click on ur connection pool and enter the data base user name and password.
and check the consistency and save the online changes.
Now go to ur answers tab and create a report and view the data..
May be its resolves ur issue.

Using Smartview for OBIEE - Unable to import chart view

I am using Smartview as office tool for OBIEE. But i am unable to import anything except table view in excel. When i try to import a basic chart view i am getting a error saying
Exception of type 'JBIPS.Common.JBIPSException' was thrown
but i am able to import them as images. Please advice.

The issue has been identified as a Bug
Bug 18117097 - SMARTVIEW : EXCEPTION OF TYPE 'JBIPS.COMMON.JBIPSEXCEPTION' WAS THROWN
It has been addressed in Patch 18057570: BI BUNDLE PATCH 11.1.1.7.140225.
