Creation of own database for CMS

Hi all
I'm new to BusinessObjects
And i'm currently in the midst of installing BusinessObjects Edge Series XI 3.1 and have chosen the option to use my own database server.
Going through the installation checklist from the installation guide, there is one point i don't quite understand.
"Have you tested the database connection between the machine hosting the database servers and the Central Management Server (CMS)?"
Someone do enlighten me , appreciate it !

I have created a new data source under administrative tools and the connection was tested successfully.
However, during the BO edge installation, when choosing the CMS database, no data source name shows up.
I tried keying in the login ID and password and this error came up.
" [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. STW00217 "

Installation issue in BOBJ XI 4.0 while specifing existing DATABASE for CMS

Hi SDN users,
we are in the process of installating SAP BOBJ XI 4.0 on windows 2003 and SQL 2008. We have created new datasource ( CMS and Audit database) and performed the necessary settings in system DSN in ODBC Data Source Administration.
Test datasource connection was successful.
During the installation, we have used the option use existing database ( microsoft SQL server using ODBC). the database which we have created are not populating to specify in the screen. we are not able to proceed.
Could anyone let us know why the database are not apearing.

You may wish to open a support case with SAP.
Note that the CMS database must be on the 64-bit, and not 32-bit, side with BI 4.x

Creation of a database engine for mobile devices using j2me

am trying to develop a database engine for mobile devices.. it is to develop a miniature version of the DBMS that
can be deployed on a mobile phone..I have to develop my own code for performing tasks such a s creating a table,
inserting values into it, selecting from it etc..
I limited my self to develop the software so that it can perform 3 functionalities of create, insert,select..
I should be taking the details such as table name and its parameters from the user and then should be able to
create a suitable data structure for it(i tried to develop a class)...
Usage of RMS package helps me partially in this.. I did that and ll be doing that..
I got stuck while developing the code for creation of a table.. I am facing problems in creating a dynamic data
structure for a table and also to use such data structure else where in my project..
I need help in developing an algorithm for this..
I would be very grateful to u all if u help me out in developing the code for this project..

I'm sorry for the amount of time it took me to get back. Derby is an open source database written entirely in Java. I do not know if it can support resource constrained devices like MIDP compliant, but may work okay with CLDC.
But outside of Derby being a solution, let me give you a few ideas off the top of my head.
Set up a database server in a separate thread. This server will really be your controller for RMS access.
Since RMS is just a big sequential 'pipe' you will have to think of data as 'frames' - (starttable) (tableID) (tablename) (data) (tablename) (data).....(endtable).
When you need to write additional data, just append it to the end of the RMS object.
When you need to retrieve data, thing are more complex.
1. Read in all data, looking for your particular tableID. This may be made much easier using RMS filters - (I'm not sure, I've never used them)
2. Once start of table of interest is found, stick the data elements in either a java vector or array until you reach the table end identifier. I think vector will be a better choice - trust me. (I think its available in J2ME...)
3. Package this into a do while loop until the element you are searching for is read. If you need to do some sorts on the data or something else that requires the all the data to be present then you need all the data for that particular table. One thing will always be clear. The first data you grab will always be some start table identifier and the last data you grab will be an end table identifier. We just don't know which table because of how we put stuff in the RMS resource.
This provides you a few positives as well as negatives:
Positive:
1. Fast data writes, no need to search for a particular table before accessing it, nor do you need to search for an index in that table.
2. When looking for data, data may* be found without searching through the entire table. This is accomplished with RMS filters or logic test within the RMS read loop.
Negative:
1. Slow when all data of a table is needed (i.e. compute sums or averages of entries). The entire RMS database must be read to ensure all the entries are searched. An example of how this is a problem is as follows: You have 5000 entries in you RMS database resource and you are looking to compute the average of a value in some table. When you first wrote the data to the table, it was done sequentially and no other data for that table exist. But we can't tell if that's the case, so we have to read through all 5000 entries to make sure we looked for every piece of data.
Beacuse of this issue, this database structure, performance may be fine for 50K - 100K entries (depending on table element size), if the reading requirements don't force full data reads. Otherwise, 25K may be an upper limit.

SQL mirroring for CMS database

I don't think SQL mirroring for CMS database is supported. anybody has any information onthis?

Enquiry for CMS database

Hi, I would like to know more usage of CMS database in Business Object XI as recently I purchased the Business Object and encounter the pop-up of asking for CMS database while installing. After I choose to create a new CMS database (MySQL) and the installing is completed smoothly. However, after I added a new object (.rpt) into folders through CMC, I could not preview this report. The error message shown as below:
Error in File Sample Report for Alvin2: Failed to load database information.
Thus, I believe there is something to do with the setup of CMS database. Please help. Thanks.

It's referring to your report's database connection. Please check the connectivity to your reporting database from the server and ensure you have added all the necessary database information for the report in the central management console.

Dynamic Creation of a Database Using Coldfusion

Here is what i want to do.
Through the simple click of a button on want to dynamicly create a new databas
e for a completely new user.   I have a database already designed but what i want is for that database to act as my "perfect database image" that can be replicated for use by other users on the system. I not only need to have the DB dynamically created or copied I need to be able to create the ODBC connection in coldfusion so that the user can start using the database without any customer service. I am using MSSQL 2005. thank you.

1. Create a stored procedure that:
            a. Creates a database exactly like your original design (tables, columns, data types etc)
            b. With required parameters like username, password, dataSource
2. Provide a form for the user to fill (fields to include applicable parameters - password etc)
3. Form action attribute should point to a page that will invoke the stored procedure, passing in all required parameters
4. Build in checks to avoid multiple database creation by one user (except you want to allow it)
5. It may be better to provide a means for user to delete his/her own database or table

Problem in creation of system alias for bw system

I want to create system alias for the bw system
system admin->sys Config->system landscape->portal content->my own folder
for this folder i created the system object
after creation of system object, from property category i select the connector and give the details.
after that i select the user management and give
authentication ticket - select
Logon method- UIDPW
User Management type- admin,user
i saved till now
in the display object i select the system alias
then that screen displays
In the system alias screen, i clicked on add button for adding alias then we r getting this message.
User Mapping Status: (Not ready for user mapping configuration)
Please give the solution for solving this problem

I checked the connection settings.
WAS settings in system object is giving this mistake
before user mapping it works fine.
after giving usermapping i ma getting this exception.

How to use your own database with your users to authenticate in a Web app?

Hello, everybody!
I'm starting to write my first web application and I'm going to use JSF, JPA and EJB3 in this application. One of the first things that I have to do on it is the authentication part where I'll have a page with a user name and a password for the user to login. So, as I'm new to all this in Java (I've already implemented this on .NET in the past), I was studying the Java EE 5 Tutorial, especifically the section "Example: Using Form-Based Authentication with a JSP Page". But I saw that the users that the sample application uses come from the file realm on the Application Server. The users are created there and assigned a name, a password and a group. After the users are in the Application Server we can simply uses forms authentication declaratively in the deployment descriptor (web.xml).
But the problem is that this doesn't work to me as I already have my own database with my users, so I want to use it instead of having to create the users on the Application Server.
So, I'm asking you how to do that. Of course I'm not expecting that you place the code here to me as I know that such a thing could be complicated. Instead, I'm asking if you know about some tutorial, article, book or something that teaches how to do what I want. But I would like to see theses examples using JSF and/or EJB3 because these are the technologies that I'm using to develop. It's a pity that the Java EE 5 Tutorial doesn't have an example using a custom database as I know that this situation is very common in the majority of web sites.

From memory, it goes like this... You just create a
raw jdbc connection on your user database using a
special "login" DB user account, which has
permissions only to an "authenticate" stored query,
which accepts two arguments: username & password, and
returns a boolean 0 or 1 rows found.When I implemented this in .NET's ASP.NET I had the same solution. I had an special user created in the database that I used to log in. When the real user entered his username and password I was already logged in and I had just to check his username and password agains the right table in my database.
But that was only possible bacause when I connected to the database using my hidden user, I used the rights APIs in ASP.NET that coordinate the authentication process. This means that before login in, no one could access any resources (pages, atc...). So what I'm saying is that I can't manager this manually in Java. Java has to have some API or whatever to allow me to control the login process programmatically, while letting the Application Server control the access to the resources.

I am having some doubts regarding Berkely database. Actually, I am using this database for my project. The scenario of the project is, I have developed some business rules depending on the concept of Ripple Down Rules and represented the rules using Conceptual graphs. Now I want to store fire these business rules in to the Berkely database, so that my application can use these business rules from the Berkeley database.
This is the context of my project. But, I am very new to this Berkely database. I have downloaded the Berkely database from the Oracle website and also installed it. The OS is am using is Windows XP SP2. Can anyone explain me how to store Conceptual graphs in a Berkely database.
I am really a beginner to Berkely database. i don't even know what to do after installing the Berkely database. Please advise me about this.

Hi Phani,
The simple answer is however you want. Berkeley DB doesn't put any constraints on how you store data in it. Its main purpose is to provide an efficient and scalable key/value storage and retrieval system, upon which you can build your own data storage system.
More specifically, if you're representing graph data, the simplest way to do so is with the "edge list" paradigm. You could, for example, set up a pair of databases, one to store all your graph nodes (with associated metadata) and one for directed edges. I'm not sure what particular c structures you'll want to use for these, but I'd suggest using record numbers on both the nodes and the edges DBs, unless all your nodes have unique and meaningful names. I'd also allow duplicate records on your edges DB, and have a very simple record structure in it that simply maps from a source node id to a destination node it (the duplicates allow multiple edges from a given node.)
If you have more specific constraints on your graph and algorithms you'd like to run on it, there are potentially more schemes you could use, such as the nested set representation for trees, and so on.

Rollback segment is filling up during creation of the database

The Rollback segment is showing around 520mb immediately after
creation of the database after following the wizard provided in
the enterprise manager of oracle. What might be the reason. How
to reduce it. Could any one give me a solution for this matter.

I tried creating the password file using the following command:
orapwd file=/home/oracle/product/9.2.0/dbs/orapwHR.ora
password=HR entries=5
and got the same error:
ORA-01501 Create Database failed.
ORA-01990 -ERROR opening password file '/home/oracle/product/9.2.0/dbs/orapw'
ORA-27037 Unable to obtain file status.
Linux error: 2: No such file or directory.
Additional information: 3.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

Creation of uninitialized database 87684942 failed

Hello,
we get this "Error Creation of uninitialized database 87684942 failed" if we try to make a Setup-Package under MI 7.0 SP 15 with MaxDB for Client persistance.
Our System is WebAS is NW 7.0 SP15 with usage type MI and AS ABAP and AS Java. MI is 7.0 SP 15. All on Win 2003 32-Bit with Oracle DB.
The MaxDB is 7.6 the newest Version. The Generation-Process function well till it tries to create the DB. We've changed a lot of things in Visual Admin for MaxDB without any better result.
Any suggestions?

This is a known problem with SQL Server 2000, see
Note 1180553 - Syntax error 170 during index creation on SQL 2000
I highly suggest upgrading to SQL Server 2005 or 2008.

Error during creation of application entity for the plug-in.

As part of creating Content Database source for SES....
We,
1 Activated the Oracle Internet Directory identity plug-in for the Oracle Content
Database instance.
2) However after activating Identity plug-in for Oracle Internet Directory.... ......... we used the csPlugin.ldif file to create an application entity for the plug-in by running the following command "$ORACLE_HOME/bin/ldapmodify -h oidHost -p OIDPortNumber -D "cn=oracle" -w password -f csPlugin.ldif" ....but in the process executing the above command.... getting the following error(we gave correct login details):
SASL/DIGEST-MD5 authentication started
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Invalid credentials (49)
How can i resolve this.
I have another query...in the command "$ORACLE_HOME/bin/ldapmodify -h oidHost -p OIDPortNumber -D "cn=oracle" -w password -f csPlugin.ldif" which user name should i specify..... is it "cn=oracle" or "cn=orcladmin"

We have followed the installation details provided in "SESAdmiistratorGuide".
In that guide.... during creation of Content Database source he did not mention any entry for "SES keystore location", and the exception which we are getting is related to "SES keystore location: null" (please look into the exception stack).
could you please guide us.

Error during creation of info record for pipline material.(Urgent)

Hi All,
We are getting the following error during creation of Info record for pipeline material
" Material XXXXX is not a pipline material"
we have checked the material master and found it is a pipeline material.
Kindly advice on the same.

The steps u need to check are;
1) The Material Type ( If standard then it is PIPE or if defined own Material Type check the settings once preferably in special material type a tick at pipeline mandatory)
2) when u create the info record (ME11) ensure the info category is selected as pipeline.

Logical Database for a Resource

I'm looking to write a query in Quickview (SQVI) and I need the logical database for a Resource. Can anyone help?

There are two ways for this -
1. To create the functional area with a logical database
Tools => ABAP/4 Workbench => Utilities => ABAP/4 query => Functional Areas.
Give the functional area name and click on Create button
In the next screen give a brief description of the functional area
Specify the name of the logical database, for e.g. Database FI, Application S. This will be the definition for the flight database
Click on the button Functional Group present on the application toolbar, in order to create the functional group for the required fields from the logical database tables
In the functional group box mention the number of the functional group and the description for the functional group
The tables from the logical database are shown in Tables Of Logical Database/Joins while the fields are displayed in the Fields Box
Double click on the table name in order to change the list
Every field that has to be selected in the query should be assigned a functional group number against it
Sometimes the list of fields in the Fields box will not be completely visible. To have a wider display of the list place the cursor in the fields box area and click on Settings => Full Screen from the SAP menu bar
To see the fields from different tables select the table and double click on it.
Once the required fields are selected, save the functional Area by clicking on the SAVE icon on the toolbar, and then Generate the Functional Area by clicking the Generate icon on the toolbar
To add user defined fields to the abap query use the menu bar option GOTO => Additional Field
Give the field name and the table name from the logical database to which the field needs to be included. Click the ENTER button.
On the next screen give the Sequence, description, title and the technical attributes for the field (field type, length). Here you can also specify the formula for the field. Click on the SAVE button to register the data to the database.
Remember that the sequence of the field matters if the second field uses the first field in its code then the second field should have a higher sequence than the first. Tables can also be included to do this use the menu option Goto => Additional Tables
You can include your own selection criteria and parameters to control the data to be selected from the database. For these additions to get activated, code needs to be written for taking care of the additional fields.
To display something before the execution of the actual query, go to the start of selection event via the menu path Goto => Code => Start-of-selection.
To display something just before or after the output of the query, go to the end of selection event via the menu path Goto => Code => End-of-selection.
To display something at the beginning of the page, go to the top of page event via the menu path Goto => Code => Top-of-page.
After finishing everything save and generate the functional area and click on the BACK icon to come out.
2. To create a functional area without a logical database
One of the following can be selected
Based on a single table
Using an ABAP/4 program
Using Table Joins
Using Sequential Dataset
The steps to be followed for creating the functional area are as follows
Tools => ABAP/4 Workbench => Utilities => ABAP/4 query => Functional Areas.
Give the functional area name and click on Create button
In the next screen give a brief description of the functional area
In the Without a logical database area give the base table on which to form the ABAP query
To form the query with two or three tables, we need to create a join. For this check the Table Join Check Box and click on the Table Join button.
NOTE: The tables to be used in the join should have at least one field in common i.e. it should have the same name, domain or data element.
Mention the tables that you want to include in the join condition in the Joined Tables area and press ENTER.
A checkbox will appear against the table names on the left side, and three radio buttons will appear against the tables on the right side specifying the join type.
Base table name remains grayed out. Select the two tables to be involved in the join by clicking the check boxes against them. Use menu path Edit => Join => Define condition to create the join. A mapping between the tables will be displayed on the right hand side. Click on the button provided (with + and down arrow symbol) to specify the join.
Click YES on the Proposal Requested message that gets displayed.
If the join tables have a foreign key relationship then the common fields in the tables will be marked with 00 to indicate that the join has been created. User can create the join by specifying 00, 01 etc. against the fields that qualify for the join.
Complete the join condition by adding more tables if necessary.
Remaining concepts for creating the functional area without a logical database are same as the concepts for creating the functional area with a logical database.
After finishing everything save and generate the functional area and click on the BACK icon to come out.
