Cropping with rounded corners

I am preparing portrait images to be put on a page. I would like to use the cropping tool to a specific size and end up with rounded corners on the image.
How can this be done?
Thanks,
Mary Lou

John, is there s ome way I can send you a copy of that image to look at?
The original picture was taken where there was a red backdrop. I selected the person and removed her from the backdrop, placing the image on a plain blue background.
I have flattened the image so I don't know any way that the old red background would be there anymore. As soon as I apply the rounded corner rectangle tool there is a redness to the marquee.

  • Imported jpg, how to "crop" or round corners

    So I have this jpg, a scanned image really.. And what I'd like to keep of the scanned image is a square within with rounded corners (within the rectangular scanned image). What's the procedure?
    Created and placed a square, corners with a radius over the target and attempted to "divide objects below", of course the jpg isn't an object, is it..(?)

    Wade, you are a broken record. All you ever say is that because this is how it is currently done, that makes it the "right" way. Feel free to not respond to my posts because I will never agree with that mentality.
    If you have some OTHER way to justify something, based in logic or common sense, I am all ears. But the idea that the status quo is somehow always "right" not does hold water with me.
    I feel if any basic user can see that there is a better way to do something, it is more "right" than the current way. That is not how your head operates, I know. I get that. So just ignore me. I am tired of arguing with you. Many people agree with me.
    In 2010, IMO you should not require a seperate external image editor just to crop a pasted bitmap in a program that is going on over a dozen releases. This is a common task when assembling artwork. I will of course point out that Freehand has done it flawlessly for something like 15 years. It is especially troubling when AI already has rasterization features in it, which it seems to me is a logical place to give users some control.
    It is dumbfounding to me that rasterizing a masked image would result in the full dimension of the masked area being converted to white pixels. I can understand for non-square mask shapes (like a circle) that white may need to fill the bounding area of the MASK with white when rasterized. That makes sense to me.
    Let's say I paste a web page into AI. I want to use the logo in the middle of a business card layout. Luckily the logo is on white on the web page so I have no issues on my white business card layout. So I mask just the tiny area in the upper left with a box and position the logo on the business card. and group the whole thing.
    I want to mail a quick proof to a client. So I duplicate the card and choose the Rasterize command and choose Screen resolution. Do I just get the card? No. I get a little card on a huge field of white. Can anyone explain why that should be the DEFAULT behavior of the rasterization process?
    Clearly, it is programatically possible, since the Flatten Transparency workaround gets us 99% there-- it just leaves and extra pixel on all dimensions for some reason. If the user had some control over this setting, that would be great, too.
    I thought I saw that at least, masked contents won't show in Outline view in AI-CS5 any more which is a step in the right direction.
    Does anyone know if this rasterization problem is fixed, too?

  • Box with rounded corners displays as rectangle in Web Browser

    I am using the box control (IBoxObject) in my Crystal Reports with rounded corners. However the box displays as a rectangle with square corners when viewed in a web browser. I have tried this in IE 7.0.5730.13, Firefox 3.0.3 and Chrome 0.2.149.30 all give the same problem.
    The interesting thing is that the boxes display correctly at design time and when exported to PDF, but they wonu2019t display correctly in IE/Firefox/Chrome. Here are the specific settings for the box:
                    CornerEllipseHieght = 375
                    CornerEllipseWidth = 375
                    Crystal Reports Version 10.5.3700.0
    I have also attached an image to try and clarify the problem.
    [Picture showing Box at design time, in a Web browser and when exported to PDF|http://i38.tinypic.com/10p6k1v.jpg]
    Thanks in advance for any help with this issue.
    -John

    Thank you Ted, this was my take on the problem but it is good to have a confirmation.
    There are CSS (HTML) solutions for creating boxes with rounded corners, such as [SpiffyBox|http://www.spiffybox.com/] and [CSS Rounded Box Generator|http://www.neuroticweb.com/recursos/css-rounded-box/index.php?idioma=en] and many more that can be found using [Google|http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cssboxeswithroundedcorners&btnG=Google+Search&meta=].
    Do you know of any plans to support rounded corners in the future?
    Thanks for your help!

  • IconItemRenderer with rounded Corners

    Hi everyone,
    im using the mobile IconItemRenderer and need to round the corners of the list-Items to be in conform with the rest of my UI-Design. is there any way to archive this?
    thx for your help

    extend the IconIremRenderer and then override the drawBackground method and draw a rect with rounded corners
    something like this...
    package renderers
        import spark.components.IconItemRenderer;
        public class RoundedIconItemRenderer extends IconItemRenderer
            public function RoundedIconItemRenderer()
                super();
            override protected function drawBackground(unscaledWidth:Number, unscaledHeight:Number):void
                this.graphics.beginFill(0x000000,0.8);
                this.graphics.lineStyle(1,0xCCCCCC,0.5);
                this.graphics.drawRoundRect(0,0,unscaledWidth,unscaledHeight,30,30);
                this.graphics.endFill();

  • Need to crop with rounded edges

    I am a novice and purchased Elements 2.0 a couple of years ago so that I can adjust pictures to post on our web site. Very simply, I want to take a rectangle picture and round the edges off. I have spent hours pouring through the help files and playing, but can not determine how to do this simple thing. Is this even possible with this version?
    Would greatly appreciate any help!

    Wow you guys are awesome to help me out. I am caught up with you and I now have a picture with rounded corners. Took me a bit as I had to use Help a couple of times to figure out how to get the trash can up, and determine where the ctrl-click really was supposed to happen. I also think I figured out that I needed to use Select - Inverse vs. Invert. Then again that may have been my mistake. I now have a nice picture with round edges and a white retangle around it. If I save this and try to put on my web site, will it not look just like that with the white space? Or have I asked my limit of questions today? :-)
    Thanks again,
    Michelle

  • Problem with Rounded Corners on EPS object in Illustrator CS3

    I'm using Illustrator CS3 and I have an EPS object which has rounded corners. When I export  the object and save it as a JPG the exported image takes on the shape of  the artboard (which is a square) rather than the shape of the EPS  object which is a square with rounded corners. I've placed the exported  JPG into my blog but when I look at it I can see a little bit of white  in each of the four corners. What can I do to stop this from happening?  In other words, I want my exported JPG image to have rounded corners  without the white. Please provide me  with as much detail as you can as I'm fairly new to Illustrator and I'm still finding my way. Thank you.

    Hi Graccon,
    The JPG format does not support transaprency. Either save as a gif or as a png. Or choose a matte color which matches your page background for the jpg.

  • Table with rounded corners in CS5?

    I am dealing with an issue, I need a table with 2 rounded top-corners. The top row is a shade of black (and needs the 2 rounded corners.
    Here is what I do:
    I make my table with a regular straight angled top-row in it's own text-frame. Then adjust the frame to the table (cmd-alt-c). Select the arrow selection tool, cut the text-frame with the table. Then create a new text-frame with 2 rounded top corners. Then past the table into this new frame.
    What now happens is that the table does not snap to the 0 point of the new frame, but it insets on the left side. When I make it align right it does it the other way around. Plus the part of the top-frame with the shade of black does not cut of on the rounded part of the frame.
    I know another option is to create a text-frame with the rounded corners on exactly the size I need it in the table, and then paste this into the top frame of the table (making sure the inset is 0). But I would like to use this as a last resort.
    We have a preference for the first option I wrote about, since we are linking Excel files and then creating InCopy content. (If a table is not placed in a seperate text frame and then linked to the floating text, InDesign loses the link to the Excel.)
    Is this at all possible? From this site it seems it is ( http://www.justskins.com/forums/table-with-rounded-corners-117551.html )

    I first tried it in a text frame. Now when I do a 'paste into' in an image frame it seems to work, but now I have an extra frame in my workflow
    Table => text frame => image frame with rounded corners => text frame
    Ideal would be:
    Table => text frame with rounded corners => text frame
    But I am starting to believe that this is not possible in InDesign (since it moves the table in the frame)
    Now I will try to figure out if my Excel links will still survive in InCopy with the image frame option.

  • Table with Round corners

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to display the table with Rounded corners,Please guide with the possibilities on this.
    Best Regards,
    Mahi

    Hi Mahi,
    Its not feasible with the tables provided in MS Word. If its going to be a fixed table then you can try this workaround. Have a rounded rectangle shape on the table cell with same size. And also you can have a 'NO Fill' for it or 'bring the text in front' options.
    You can have a look at [http://www.ecrion.com/Support/Resources/XSL-FOTutorial/Paragraphs.xml.html] -> 'Rounded Borders' section. The rounded corners didnt work for me in 10.1.3.4.1. You can give it a try.
    Hope this helps,
    Kavipriya.

  • Making a photo with rounded corners

    I just followed both of these instructions to create rounded
    corners on a rectangular image:
    http://www.enghiong.com/how-to-make-rounded-corner-edges-using-fireworks.html/
    http://www.joycejevans.com/tutorials/Fireworks/FWMX/roundecorners/rc_crn.htm
    What am I missing? Both of them show the transparent canvas?
    I drew the rectangle, rounded the corners, pasted inside and all
    the other steps and saved it. When I use in my html file, the
    background shows!
    Any help with this is so appreciated.

    Here you go. It's usually a good idea to use a white rather
    than black
    object to paste inside of.

  • AP Div with Rounded Corners

    Hi All,
    I want to draw an AP Div but I want it to have rounded corners.  The reason being is that when I add a seperate background it will be more obvious and look better.
    If anybody knows of a better way of adding a body of text with it's own background and rounded corners please can you let me know how to do it?
    Many Thanks
    Big_Gee

    Wow Big_Gee!  I think that's a Big_Question!
    For a start, you can add rounded corners using CSS3 but it isn't widely supported accross all browsers.  I don't think that DW will add those CSS rules but it won't take too much to find sample code on the web with a quick Google search on CSS Rounded Corners or something.  Nancy O has recently responded to a rounded corner question here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/657158?tstart=30.  I don't konw if it makes a difference that you want the effect on AP Divs or not.  I haven't read that you can't.
    Adding a background image is achieved with CSS and you might be able to think about putting the rounded corners on the image in your graphics editor.  That will depend partly on how flexible you site is and whether users can increase text size in the browser.
    If you are using AP Divs (position: absolute) you need to be a bit cautious.  General advice is to use them very sparingly and when other options don't achive what you want.

  • Problems with 'Round Corners'

    Hi everbody,
    First of all, sorry for my bad englisch. I'm German
    Here's my problem:      step 1: i'm writing a word and then i'm using the effect ‘create outlines‘ in the type menu.
                                      step 2: after that i'm using the filter ‘round corners‘
                                       But not all corners are round after that. I've problems with the letter ‘S‘. Just 2 corners are round and the ohter two are                                    unchanged.
    Does anyone know what the problem could be?
    Thank you very much!
    Simon

    Simon,
    I see what you see.
    Unless you have CS6, you should be able to use the free Round Any Corner script on the relevant Anchor Points, available here:

  • Is it possible to have a PDF with rounded corners?

    Hi
    I've been asked to create a pdf (which is just for on screen, not print), which when viewed has rounded corners.  Is this possible?  The original design is in illustrator.
    Thanks
    S

    Realistically, no. PDF pages are always rectangular, and while there are techniques to place some interactive content partly-outside the page region it's not a practicable way to simulate rounded corners.

  • Iphone - UILabel with round corners

    Hi,
    I have a UIView and on top of that UIImageView. I'm displaying background image in UIImageView. I need to display a label on top of the UIImageView. I would like my label to appear semi transparent and also having rounded corners. Could anyone help me how to achieve this using iPhone SDK?
    thanks!

    I don't understand why your UILabel isn't being shown? This is what I do:
    backgroundView = [self newViewWithImageNamed:@"theBackground.png" atPosition:CGPointMake(x, y)];
    [self addSubview:backgroundView];
    myLabel = [self newLabelWithOffset:theX y:theY w:theWidth];
    myLabel.text = @"My multi-line text";
    myLabel.numberOfLines = 10;
    [backgroundView addSubview:myLabel];
    newViewWithImageNamed and newLabelWithOffset are simply methods that create the UIImageViews and UILabels. Nothing special happens in there.

  • Problem with round corners..the server said it is MBssss of traffic created because of that?

    1)
    The problem only occurs when the visitor is using Internet Explorer (and possibly only some versions of IE)
    2)
    The problem is that the file pie.js is being loaded many times for these Internet Explorer visitors, causing your traffic to be higher than usual, and our server can potentially blocking the visitor temporarily for requesting the same file many times in a short period.
    3)
    The file pie.js is meant to show cool effects like rounded corners and background effects in Internet Explorer (those cool effects work fine without pie.js for other browsers, so pie.js is only loaded when the visitor is using IE). I assume on your web site, it’s for the rounded corners on some of your borders, like the testimonials box.
    4)
    The file is being loaded by another file on your web site, called museutils.js
    5)
    Museutils.js is part of “Adobe Muse”, a web design solution that I’ve never heard of until now. Either your current web developer uses it, or someone who developed your site in the past used it to create your site.
    6)
    I believe there is a bug in the programming of museutils.js causing it to reload pie.js many times
    7)
    This bug may be a new one that has been introduced in a recent version of Adobe Muse.

    Thank you very much for reporting this problem. We'll fix it for the next release.
