Cross platform power point videos - need help!

I'm trying to create a MS powerpoint that will work on either windoze or Mac (my primary creation platform is MS office 2011 on the mac, but I also have MSO 2010 on an XP machine).
I've somewhat mastered the issues with audio files, but am stymied with videos. I have youtube donwnloaders for both the mac and windows, but cannot get a format with either that is supposed to work cross platform [I can't depend on any iTunes or other non standard apps on the windoze machines].
According to a post on a MS help site, the video formats that are supposed to work crossplatform are: MOV M4V AVI WMV. Unfortunately, neither of the youtube downloaders I have can create any of these formats that work. The downloader on windoze can create an AVI, but PPT won't display it when I embed it in the slide.

My macbook pro A1260 (early 2008) suddenly wont boot up - there's no chime or video, just all of the other usual signs of like such as the drive and fans spinning. Tried all the usual resets and checked the RAM was seated properly but no luck. I had this problem once before a few weeks ago and reseating the RAM suddenly brought it back to life and it booted up again. The macbook is fitted with the NVIDIA Ge Force 8600M GT chip that was decared as faulty but as the mac wont power up with video it's impossible to test specifically to see if the chip is at fault. I have seen many people on these forums with the same problem and a few lucky ones who had the repair done for free regardless of the lack of test possible. I have already taken it to the genius bar and sure enough they presented me with a diagnostic bill for 480euros to replace the logic board. I have heard that these chips can fry the rest of the logic board when they fail, can anyone who has had this confirmed please let me know? I am going back to the genius bar this weekend for a last attempt at persuading them to do it for free (it's within the 4 year extended warranty for this problem). I'd like to know how many people managed to get it repaired even if the computer wouldn't boot up to enable the test. Computer was working perfectly with the exception of minor pixelling at the top of a screen when watching a DVD, could that have been a sign? I know it's a long shot but any advice to help me build an case would be greatly appreciated. So frustrated!!

Getting rid of videos - need help please!

I just added 2.1 GB of video into my videos library and now iTunes takes freezes every time it starts. The reason (I assume) is because I have an iBook G3 (500 Mhz). I need a way to delete the videos from iTunes without deleting them from my hard drive, but as I have backups, I guess this isn't as important. I was thinking maybe there is an XML file I can modify or something. Thanks in advance for the help!

Few ways to approach this, quick and easy way
Go into you iTunes Library via Finder
USER(you)->MUSIC->ITUNES->ITUNESMUSIC
Then sort by date modified (or date created) recent down and you should be able to see the new videos quickly, drag them out of there to another part of your Hard drive.
Open iTunes and see if it works.
If not delete the prefs and the library xml (assuming all of this on your hard drive, all music etc.?), then relaunch and add back the items to your library

Power PC G5-needs help!!!!!

I am running 10.3.9 system software with 512MB ram. It is the model with all the hardware in the monitor (19" I think) , it has no tower.
I cannot install the new snow leopard system software or updates to several software programs including safari.
My questions are, is it time to just buy a new Mac Book for 999.00 or are there cheaper upgrades that can be done (More Ram) and keep the existing model.
I currently have the new macbook pro and love it, but the other MAC is for family use?

HP Pavilion DV7-4180ea AC Power Problem (Really Need Help)

my hp pavilion dv7- 4180ea is a machine and a half, BUT, if i try to play a computer game, (without charger in) i can get 80 fps + on full settings, when i put my default hp charger in, the fps drops to 50 or 60 which is smooth, but it hiccups BADLY, e.g over a period of 10 seconds, 60fps------ 0---- 60fps----- it completely stops for 2 pr 3 seconds, ONLY WITH MY CHARGER IN, why?!

Biggest Blunder of my Life? Reformatted 1tb of Samples and Videos NEED HELP

i reformatted a tb of samples , music, videos, some are backed up but its months of work that isn't.
is there a disk i can buy to recover? or any other suggestions. i feel like throwing up.

Just don't panic. I have more experience of recovering files on PC but you should find a specific type of recovery for if the drive has been formatted as opposed to just files deleted. Don't be too quick to consider that the files are lost if the first attempt/software doesn't work. Another bit of software might do 100% better than the first depending on the quality of software and condition of the files but if you've done a straight format of the drive and nothing else there is a good chance the files are there and recoverable.
It will be a slow process though as you have such a lot of data to recover - don't rush it and don't give up too quick! Good luck!

Buddiy API cross platform woes

We are producing a cross platform CD-ROM and need to launch
PDFs. We have purchased Buddy API and have the Windows version
working fine. When we publish the Mac version it refuses to launch
Acrobat, even though I can see the api being included during the
publish process.
I have installed the cross platform 'flattened' versions of
the api into the relevant directories and indeed the Mac does NOT
error saying it can't see the api.
So it must be down to my code I think, here it is - any

The baOpenFile command has a built in method of telling you
what the
problem is. It will return an error code when it runs. As a
test,
adjust your code like this, then try it on the Mac:

That alert will be a number. Check out the help file for
BuddyAPI, on
the baOpenFile page and it will tell you what all the numbers
mean.
My guess is that it will be "file not found" or something
similar, and
if that is the case, make sure that the media folder is
visible to the
Mac operating system. Making x-plat CDs is a tricky procedure
and often
a folder will only appear on one partition and not the other.
If that
is the case, then re-master the CD and make sure that the
appropriate
folders are available to both partitions.

Data Movement in Cross Platform

1. Is the datapump dump file which is created in Host A can be import in Host B? is it so please forward the steps
2. from Host A to Host B in need to transfer the data incrementally & regularly. How can i make this as automatic?

You can create and schedule two jobs in OEM. First job to export you source schema on predefine interval and store dump file on a shared locaiton that host b can access as well then next job will import that dump file into host b database.
If your purpose is to replicate data regularly then you should also look using streams.

Need help with intricate lettering

Well, I try not to ask questions on this forum without attempting things myself. I understand other people's time very important. Anyway, I took a course at a technical college and have a home classroom course that I'm doing right now. Unfortunately, at this point I need help. This logo must be recreated to vector art because it will be printed on a very large substrate. The customer has no access to the vector art.
I need help.....I am very proficient with the basic tools, the pen tool especially. However, creating intricate lettering like this, I don't have much experience with.
The lettering is kicking my *** right now. Also, I can mimic the gradient for the bars decently, but am having trouble with the little rounded gradient effect in the corners.
I hate to beg for help, but may I have help!!?? I'm not looking for someone to do the work, rather please provide any tips so I can wade my way through this. The customer contacted my boss today and needs it by Monday for a meeting, so I will have a project to do over the weekend.
It needs to print spot black. Any tips/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. After work tonight, I'm going to go through my classroom in a book to pick up helpful tips.

There are many stylistic variations of this kind of thing. Your screenshot is too low-res to discern the exact treatment used for sure. That said:
This takes about 5 minutes and results in a clean, economical construct with a minimum of paths.
Only color is Spot Black.
Two Swatches: Spot Black and 20% tint of Spot Black.
All the offset paths (the inner paths of all the characters) are a single Compound Path and receive a three-stop linear grad fill at 0 degrees.
All the original paths (the outer paths of all the characters) are left separate and a three-stop linear grad fill at 120 degrees is applied (so each outer character has its own grad that can be individually adjusted).
A little individual adjustment of the grads on each outer character can very closely match the arrangement of bevel tones of the original you're trying to emulate. Keep it simple. Study the shading of the emboss edges carefully, and try to see them as linear grads spanning the whole character, not as a bunch of tiny tedious individual details wrapping around the character. Then accomplish the shading with as few grad stops as possible. Understand how to "tighten" or "sharpen" the shifts between grad stops by moving the gamma pointers that are between each pair of adjacent grad stop off-center toward one stop or the other. The tighter the transitions--especially on the bevel facets--the more "sparkle."

Cross platform program

I'm trying to design a program that could be used on both OSX and WinXP and my thought is to go for Java. My friend wants to use C++ so my question is.. will the C++ code that works on windows compile in Xcode and work?

You'd need to do some extra work to get the C++ code to work on both platforms. There are a couple of cross-platform frameworks that you could use. I've never used any however, so I don't really know which are the good ones. You can try wxWidgets for free, so that might be a good place to start.
It might also be possible to keep the user interface code separate from the code that does the actual work. If so, you could make a Mac OS X GUI while your friend makes the Windows GUI.
There's also a product called REALbasic that can build applications for Mac OS X, Mac OS 9, Windows and Linux. In order to get the cross-platform abilities, you'd need to get the Professional edition, which isn't cheap. I have used its Windows compiler just to see if it worked (it did), but I haven't really tried anything very complex with it. They have a limited time demo you can download it and try it out.
The biggest drawback I see with it is that the built apps are really big, around a couple of megabytes for the simplest applications. On the other hand, I find it indispensable for certain kinds of applications (mostly database front ends).
Or you could use Java, but since I don't really know anything about it, I'll leave it up to someone else to comment on that.
