Cross Reference within external Database using XREF API

Hi Experts,
   Can we do Cross Reference within external Database using  XREF API uses JDBC to access the Oracle Database Stored Procedures in SAP PI? How to use a JNDI Data source to access the DB and how to do the Connection Pooling will be done by the SAP J2EE server? Kindly let me know step by step proceedings.
Regards
Archana

Hello Archana,
It can be done with a Lookup call in a mapping.
Here's a little article about the topic in the SAP wiki:

  • Importing cross references in R12.1 using an API

    Hello All,
    Is there any API to import cross references in Oracle R12.1.Basically the API should insert records in to mtl_cross_references_b table.
    Any pointers will be of great help.
    Regards,
    Sumi

    Index cross references are designed to enable you to have
    index keywords that when clicked redirect the user to another
    keyword. For example I use them for acronyms to redirect users to
    the longer version. Are you cross references topics inside the
    project? If so, can't you use the index cross references by
    indexing in the same manner? If the cross reference you want is
    outside the project, using the index is not the way I'd suggest.
    Why not use a link in a topic to a URL, file, etc. You may be able
    to do what you want through a redirect topic but I haven't looked
    into this. Come back with some more details if I am off the
    mark.

  • Look up ESB Cross-Reference within ODI

    We have a need to look up ESB cross reference table that is populated by AIA PIPs. I saw ESB Cross-Reference KM mentioned in "Oracle Data Integrator Knowledge Modules Reference Guides 10.1.3". My question is that can this KM be used to do ESB cross reference table look up. We don't need to populate xref table, just need to look up.

    Hi Ace2-
    Thanks for your quick response!
    I can able to reterive unmatched records by using “Left outer join” but it will multiple the record counts for “matching condition”.
    PRODUCT_ID,PRODUCT_NAME,SALES_QTY,SALES_AMT
    101,SEGATE-HD,10,100
    101,SEGATE-HD,10,100
    102,TOSHIBA-HD,20,5000
    103,TRANSCEND-PENDRIVE,10,2000
    104,SONY ERICSSON,10,100000
    105,NOKIA-7710,20,20000
    106,TOSHIBA-HD,10,9000
    107,NULL,NULL,NULL
    The above records will be the output of outer join. If you see the 2nd record it is getting duplicated as 1st record. I have to exclude the 2nd record as it increases the record count of “PRODUCT_SALES.csv” file.

  • Cross-reference failure when converted to PDF

    One of my clients uses FrameMaker 7.1 to author their product documents, and convert everything to PDF before releasing it. I often see problems where cross-references within the document work in FrameMaker, but do not work as links in PDF, even though they show as links and the cursor in Acrobat changes correctly as it should when pointing to a link. I have now encountered a FrameMaker file where the cross-references worked as links in the first revision of a PDF, but a random selection of them didn't in the next revision, even though no changes were made to any cross-references in the original FM file. It's not an issue with my PC or that of the person who generated the files - we have tried the conversion on multiple installations and they all produce the same result. To fix it we've had to locate each failed link in the PDF and put it right manually in the FM source file. Has anyone else encountered this? Any thoughts on the cause?

    DxCooper (not your real name, I guess),
    The rigid approach is to check in the PDF Setup dialog, last tab "Links", whether the option "Create Named Destinations for All Elements and Paragraphs" is selected. This helps but the size of the PDF may increase considerably.
    Another thing which may help, especially (but not limited to) if the documents originally were authored in previous versions of FrameMaker, is the use of what is described in the prose of the above mentioned dialog: Optimize the PDF size by running the described routines once for every file. As far as I remember you can select a book file for that feature.

  • Cross-reference tag errors in Trados preventing MIF creation

    Our Spanish translator provides files from translation memory with unresolved cross-reference text in English; when we update the book the cross-references are translated to Spanish and the page numbers are also updated within the cross-reference text. After our DTP process, when we return the files to the translator to update the translation memory, he gets a misalignment in the tags and Trados prevents him from creating a MIF file. Trados won't let him ignore the cross-references. We're using unstructured FrameMaker 2009 and he has Trados 2007. We're in the midst of a deadline for a project due next week and he wants to charge us an enormous fee to fix the tags manually. Can anyone suggest a solution the translator can use? I'm a newbie forum user, but I checked the FAQ and did not see anything. Thanks! Sue

    As far as I know, FM cross-references (which came into Trados via MIF and S-Tagger) are handled as placeables. I suppose the mismatches stem from a "placeables differences penalty", which by default is 2%, even for otherwise exact matches.
    A possible solution could be to impose no penalties for placeables in Trados, i.e. set the placeables differences penalty to 0%. But be careful, this may overshoot the mark, as there might be relevant differences in placeables that must be reviewed. I'm not aware of a setting in Trados where you could specify this more selectively.

  • ID CS4 - How to accurately identify existing cross references?

    Hi there,
    I'd like to know how I can accurately identify an existing cross reference.
    I've assumed responsibility for a large document with many figures and many more to be added. I've been adding cross references that use my "figure" paragraph style. All of my cross references point to locations within the same document.
    I am encountering older formatted text that looks like it might be a cross reference but I can't be certain. I've been using the non-printing visible rectangle to clearly identify cross references I've added. The previous authors did this in one or two locations but apparently not consistently.
    What does it mean when my cursor is placed in a bolded word and when I select the Type>Hyperlinks & Cross-References menu and none of the fly-out menu options are available? Does this mean I've placed my cursor within an existing cross-reference?
    If so, is there any way to change the format of an existing cross-reference so that it uses the visible rectangle?
    Thanks,
    Peter H.

    @Pete47 – you could try the "Wps HyperlinkInspector" by Werner Perplies:
    http://www.weepee.de/forum/indesign/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=59
    Unfortuantely, it's all in German, but ask Werner for an English version…
    I discovered some problems with its UI on Mac OSX, but if you are on Windows it should work fine.
    The trial version is restricted to 25 hyperlinks…
    Since "Wps HyperlinkInspector" is using "nodes" [+] you can expand, expect problems if you are testing with the current version of inDesign CC. There are some severe bugs with ScriptUI right now (e.g. you cannot expand "nodes").

  • Inserting a record in database using Java

    Hello All,
    i have connected a Java Application to the SAP BO Database using DI API and would like to insert a record in the demo database without using an SQL Query "Insert into table1...." but using the following snippet though i dont know if am using the right classes :
                                    ICompany company = conn.getCompany();
                                     IItems items = SBOCOMUtil.newItems(company);
                        items.setItemCode("124");
                        items.setItemName("VXC");
                        items.setItemsGroupCode(1);
                        items.setItemType(0);
                        items.add();
    What i am trying to do here is insert a new record but i dont know where i should mention the table name for e.g. there is table called OITM in the demo database from BO where i would like to create a new Item.
    Could anyone help me here.
    Regards,
    Amit Hingher

    Hi Amit,
    You don't need to reference the destination tables as there is a class for each data object in the DI API and the data tables associated with the object are hardcoded in the class.
    The Items class is the correct one for adding item master data (ie data in OITM, OITW etc).
    I'm not very familiar with these Java objects but I think the add method should return an integer value (as it does with the COM objects used by .NET). If the return value is zero then the add was successful. If the add failed then you'll get a non-zero value which is the SBO error code.
    Kind Regards,

  • How can I get XML cross-references to translate to Structured FrameMaker?

    I've been using Structured FrameMaker from the beginning, and have designed many EDDs, and about 10 years ago I did some translation of SGML into Structured FrameMaker (7.2) which worked well.
    Now, (with FrameMaker 10), I've had to design an EDD to translate XML documents into Structured FrameMaker.
    In my EDD I've a CrossReference element called XRef; this has an attribute of ID, which in turn has a value of IDReference and has Special AttributeConrols of ReadOnly.
    My target elements in the EDD all have an ID attribute with a value of UniqueID.
    My XML document's target xref element has  an attribute of linkend, and in XML this works as I'd expect.
    When I pass the XML file through the EDD/Template, everything works except that I get an ID = no value, which, of course, results in no display of the cross-reference data in the document.
    Oddly, in structured FrameMaker, my element of link, with an attribute of linkend, works as it should, and displays the data.  It may not be important, but the value for linkend is IDReference not UniqueID, and this displays correctly (I changed this attribute's value to Unique ID in my EDD and it made no difference to the XRef value in my document).
    After making all these EDD changes, I've been careful to save the changes, import them to all files in my book and finally update the book.   Everything hangs together - except, of course, that the cross-reference doesn't work.
    I'd sincerely appreciate any help or advice other users might have because I'm quite frankly stumped.

    Russ,
    Sorry about the delay in replying; got sidetracked trying to fix some FrameMaker 10 problems; on occasion, it laughs and crashes if we copy an element in a document and paste it to somewhere illegal.  This doesn't happen all the time, but it might be something someone might do, so it was interesting to know.
    Anyway, back to cross-references.
    In our r/w rules we have:
    "linkend" is fm attribute "ID";
    Can we also have a similar line under the cross-reference element as:
    element "xref"
         is fm cross-reference element "XRef";
         attribute "linkend" is fm property cross-reference id;
         attribute "role" is fm property cross-reference format;
    At the moment the second line is:
    .....attribute ID is fm property cross-reference id;
    I tried adding the attribute "linkend" is fm property cross-reference id; (so that I had both linkend and ID) bit but this made no difference.
    In general use cross-references work, in that it picks up data in one place in the document, e.g. WorldWideWeb, and repeats it elsewhere.   So in our xml file we have a link element with an attribute linkend which, when it's processed (ignoring the handshake code used to link the two - which could be something vague like 12345vvdog), repeats whatever is the target.
    Conversely, for a cross-reference, in xml they use an xref element which also has a linkend attribute (similar mysterious secret handshake behind the scenes) which is deemed to point to a list of references.   This looks like it might be the stumbling block in that it links to an area in the xml document which is used as an internally generated list of references.  Apparently this is only built when the xml book equivelent is finalised, so is not, like the link and linkend coupling described above.
    I've passed this back to the xml people, and they are investigating a different way of preparing their cross-reference to a list of references (I'm now thoroughly confused with all these references - good thing the weekend's just around the corner).
    I appreciate all you help and advice, I'll admit that this is a lot more difficult to understand than straight-forward EDD element creation along with their respective attributes.   Life used to be so much more simple back then!
    In sum, what I thought I was doing was allowing an ID attribute with a value of IDReference in my elements, this was deemed to allow for FrameMaker cross-referencing.   In Structured FrameMaker, on its own, this works just fine; it all fell flat on its face when trying to import xml.   I tried to see whether the xref element's ID attribute could also be a UniqueID, but as just about everyone has said, this is a silly idea.   I was just trying stuff to see whether it might make a difference - you'll not be surprised to see that it didn't!
    For the moment, I have attributes called ID with a value of IDReference, and I understand you're all suggesting to leave it at that.
    If I understand correctly, I could eventually use an IDRef attribute if I wanted a UniqueID value to be used, though I'm not sure what a UniqueID is used or useful for, so will file that for future use.
    Again, thanks for the advice and help.
    Chris

  • Relinking Cross-References after Renaming Documents

    I have a problem where I have created a book containing 14 chapters. Each chapter has a reference to the language of the book i.e. GB in the document title, we now want to translate the documents, so have copied the book, and chapters, renamed the document with an FR in the document titles, ready to send of to the translators.
    The trouble is all the cross references are still linking to the GB book. Is there a way of re-linking all the cross references to the FR documents? Or is it a case of going to each cross-reference and re-linking to the same piece of text but in the FR book.
    Can anyone help?

    No help here, at least no help in providing some magic. Cross-file cross-references seem to depend on the name of the file that contains the cross-reference "destination" - the text that's captured and displayed at the "source" - the location where the cross-reference is inserted. I'm using quotation marks here because some folks think of the stuff you capture as the cross-reference source, and what's displayed at the cross-reference insertion point is the destination in their view. IOW, they're opposite uses of the term. InDesign's nomenclature is based on the hyperlink model, where you create a destination somewhere and you act on it by pointing to that destination from where you insert the link to it, AKA the source of the action. At least that's my guess.
    So, changing file names loses the connection.
    Internal cross-references - within a single document file - are maintained when the file's name is changed.
    You can relink cross-file cross-references for files that are moved to a new folder. In the Cross-References panel, select a "missing" cross-reference that displays a question mark in a red circle, then from the panel's fly-out menu, choose Relink Cross-Reference, and browse the directory. If all the cross-file cross-references in the file whose cross-references point to files in one directory, relinking should restore all the links. If some cross-references point to files moved to other directories, you'll need to browse to each of those directories.
    With a book, if all the missing cross-file cross-references for all the book's component files were all moved to the same folder, relinking one missing reference should relink all. If some missing cross-references point to files moved elsewhere, you'll need to browse for each of those directories.

  • Cross-References to other documents

    As Cross-refences within a document act as clickable links to their destinations when exported to PDF, can cross references to content of another Indesign documents act as clickable links to the destination after being exported. I think no, but I want to double check.

    I actually tried this already, it still crashes and the error is reproducible on four different computers here: 1 Mac and 3 Windows machines. I didn't even restore my old preferences, I just did the reset and it still has the issue. Note it's not crashing when I use data merge, simply when I try to view the panel.
    The only thing that differentiates this document from the other ones I've had issues with that I got my work-around to fix is that the cross-references point to other documents (where the other ones I've managed to fix have cross-references within the same document).
    For the sake of my sanity I may just convert the (2) cross-references to text if they are in fact the issue.

  • Updating tables in external database

    Is there a way to update tables in an external database using an HTML-DB process?
    I want to make my "Apply Changes" button process script update an external table in database x.
    Example:
    update x.tracking_locations@x
    set location = :P7_LOCATION,
    description = :P7_DESCRIPTION,
    IN_USE = :P7_IN_USE
    where tracking_location_num = :P7_TRACKING_LOCATION_NUM;
    I get the following error:
    ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column ORA-02063: preceding line from x
    None of these columns is type long! (they're varchar2)
    Both databases are 9iR2.
    I had a similar problem INSERTING the data (CREATE button) which I got around by posting to a table in my HTML-DB schema, inserting into the database x table as select from the HTML_DB table then deleting from the HTML-DB table all within the "on submit" process script.
    example:
    insert into tracking_locations
    (DESCRIPTION, LOCATION,IN_USE)
    values(:P7_DESCRIPTION,:P7_LOCATION,:P7_IN_USE);
    insert into x.tracking_locations@x
    (DESCRIPTION, LOCATION,IN_USE)
    select description, location, 'Y' from tracking_locations;
    delete from tracking_locations;
    This INSERT trick works, but seems like it should be easier! Nevertheless, I can't get updates to work.
    Any ideas?

    hey tony--
    neat issue. i just reproduced it on our development box and will log it in a minute. for now, though, an easier way to get around it would be to assign the values from your page items to local variables declared in your update procedure and use those local vars for your update. so instead of...
    update x.tracking_locations@x
    set location = :P7_LOCATION,
    description = :P7_DESCRIPTION,
    IN_USE = :P7_IN_USE
    where tracking_location_num = :P7_TRACKING_LOCATION_NUM;
    ...you could set it up like so...
    declare
    l_location varchar2(200) default :P7_LOCATION;
    l_description varchar2(200) default :P7_DESCRIPTION;
    l_in_use default :P7_IN_USE;
    begin
    update x.tracking_locations@x
    set location = l_location,
    description = l_description,
    in_use = l_in_use
    where tracking_location_num = :P7_TRACKING_LOCATION_NUM;
    end;
    ...and things should work fine. i'm also pretty sure that you could avoid having to declare the local variables if you referred to your items in your update statement using the v('ITEM_NAME') syntax, but you'd have to have global_names set to true and it might not be as performant a workaround.
    hope this helps,
    raj

  • Pointing to external Database from apex application

    Hi Guys,
    Is that possible to point to databse exist in another server through apex application ? is there any configuration like that ?

    You would make this kind of connection within a schema/database that your Apex instance already has access to, or a different schema, which you would then make available to Apex. Once you have this setup you can reference the external database/tables just like any other table in Apex. You may be limited to which operations are supported on the external data, depending on whether it's an Oracle dblink or an ODBC connector, etc.

  • Word 2010 AAX Cross-references gone

    I have 13 documents - "Word 10/AAX (all updates installed)", with many cross-references.
    Links correctly translate to PDF including headings, TOC, websites, and cross-references WITHIN the same document, but cross-references between the 13 docs do not work.
    The PDF shows the colour change, but there is no clickable link.
    I am "Saving as PDF", have checked the PDFMaker settings, and have tried creating the PDF directly from AAX.

    Hi Pranav,
    Yes, this is already selected. All links are correctly created, except those which cross-reference other Word 2010 documents.
    I need the PDF to maintain the cross-reference as is found in the Word Doc (which is simply a link to a specific bookmark in a separate Word Doc).
    In summary: One Word Doc references a specific bookmark in a separate Word Doc - so when the PDF's are created: PDF references the specific bookmark in a separate PDF.
    Any other ideas would be most appreciated. Thanks!
