Crosstab Query in Oracle
Dear members:
I have been trying to generate a crosstab query in Oracle using SQL.
This is the situation:
I have two tables in Oracle. One contains characteristics of institutions which people visit, and includes, amongst other fields, the ID of the institution (number) and an identificator for the district where the institution is implanted (number; ranging 1 - 18).
The second table also contains a field with the ID of the institution, and more: the date when the visit occured (date), and a sequential (unique) number for each visit.
What I need to obtain is a final table containing the following fields:
Date of the visit, total number of visitors per date of visit, and a field for each district containing the total number of visitors to instituitions of the district per each date of visit.
Can anyone give me a hint on this?
Also; is there a user-frindly interface minimizing the use of SQL that I can download from Oracle for generating this?
Thank You
André
Crosstab is a reporting function not a SQL one. SQL statements must have a fixed number of columns regardless of the data.
The only way to do it using SQL is to use PL/SQL to generate a dynamic query as shown on Ask Tom here
http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:::::F4950_P8_DISPLAYID:15151874723724
Otherwise there are reporting tools such as Oracle Reports that can do it as well.

Display Crosstab query in DataGrid
Hi, I'm a Flex beginner. Could someone please help me how to
display crosstab query result in DataGrid? The following query
returns 6 columns:
- First column: values in the field Sell_Channel
- Second: Sum(Revenue Total) from the Revenue field.
- Others: Revenue Subtotal by Sell_Channel and quarter.
Quarters are values stored in the field name Quarter. In Datagrid,
what would be the datafield for these 4 quarter columns?
Thanks millions.
Here is my SQL:
TRANSFORM Sum(Revenue.RevenueTotal) AS SumOfRevenueTotal
SELECT Revenue.Sell_Channel, Sum(Revenue.RevenueTotal) AS
[Total Of RevenueTotal]
FROM Quarter INNER JOIN Revenue ON Quarter.FiscalQuarter =
Revenue.Quarter
WHERE (Revenue.Fiscal_Year="2006")
GROUP BY Revenue.Sell_Channel

Is there Oracle Crosstab query like access?
Hi,
Shirani wrote:

If the problem is that ASP needs to know how many columns the dynamic query will be returning, then perhaps you can do something on the ASP side like the preliminary query.
Another approach would be not to return separate columns, but to concatenate the pivoted results into one huge VARCHAR2 column, with the columns delimied as in a csv file. This might be simpler on the Oracle side; you can do String Aggregation without dynamic SQL. Your ASP application could then parse the huge VARCHAR2 to get the individual parts. -
Hi
I'd like to create a crosstab query but I'm not sure what function to use to do it.
MSAccess has 'Transform' but what do I use in Oracle SQL?
Does anyone have any examples or references to look at? ThanksWoof,
Here's an example. If you are running Oracle 11, then Pivot is also available.
SELECT state,
round( sum( mens ), 2 ) "Mens",
round( sum( womens ), 0 ) "Womens",
round( sum( accessories ), 0 ) "Accessories"
FROM ( SELECT demo_customers.cust_state state,
CASE
WHEN demo_product_info.category = 'Mens'
THEN
demo_order_items.quantity * demo_order_items.unit_price
ELSE
0
END
mens,
CASE
WHEN demo_product_info.category = 'Womens'
THEN
demo_order_items.quantity * demo_order_items.unit_price
ELSE
0
END
womens,
CASE
WHEN demo_product_info.category = 'Accessories'
THEN
demo_order_items.quantity * demo_order_items.unit_price
ELSE
0
END
accessories
FROM demo_order_items,
demo_product_info,
demo_customers,
demo_orders
WHERE demo_order_items.product_id = demo_product_info.product_id
AND demo_order_items.order_id = demo_orders.order_id
AND demo_orders.customer_id = demo_customers.customer_id )

Frm-40505:ORACLE error: unable to perform query in oracle forms 10g
Hi,
I get error frm-40505:ORACLE error: unable to perform query on oracle form in 10g environment, but the same form works properly in 6i.
Please let me know what do i need to do to correct this problem.
Regards,
PriyaHi everyone,
I have block created on view V_LE_USID_1L (which gives the error frm-40505) . We don't need any updation on this block, so the property 'updateallowed' is set to 'NO'.
To fix this error I modified 'Keymode' property, set it to 'updatable' from 'automatic'. This change solved the problem with frm-40505 but it leads one more problem.
The datablock v_le_usid_1l allows user to enter the text (i.e. updated the field), when the data is saved, no message is shown. When the data is refreshed on the screen, the change done previously on the block will not be seen (this is because the block updateallowed is set to NO), how do we stop the fields of the block being editable?
We don't want to go ahead with this solution as, we might find several similar screens nad its diff to modify each one of them individually. When they work properly in 6i, what it doesn't in 10g? does it require any registry setting?
Regards,
Priya -
Problem with different resultset with same data and same query in Oracle 8.1.7 and 9i
Hello,
I have been using this query in oracle 8.1.7
SELECT
ID,
AREA_NO
FROM MANAGER_AREA MGR
WHERE COMPANY_ID = :id AND
(:value < (SELECT COUNT(ROWID)
FROM MANAGER_WORK MW
WHERE MW.AREA_ID = MGR.ID AND
(MW.END_WORK IS NULL OR MW.END_WORK >= SYSDATE)))
order by AREA_NO;
In the above query I want to see rows from MANAGER_AREA table depending upon date criteria in the table MANAGER_WORK and also upon the parameter :value i.e if I pass a value as 0 I get to see records for which their is atleast 1 record in MANAGER_WORK with the date criteria and if I pass -1 then I get all the records because minimum value that count(*) would give is 0. The resultset was as expected in 8.1.7.
A couple of days back I installed PERSONAL 9i to test for testing the basic functionality of our program with the same data. This query fails and irrespective whether I pass -1 or 0 it returns me same dataset which I would have got in case if I pass 0.
I do not know whether this is a bug that has got introduced in 9i. Can anybody help me with this problem. It would be difficult for me to change the parameter send to this query as the Query is called from many different places.
Thanks in advance
Amol.I cannot use a Group by and a having statement over here. The problem with 'Group by' and 'having' clause is If I have to make a join between the two tables. When I use join then I get only rows that are linked to each other in the table.
If I use outer join to solve that problem then I have to take in consideration the other date condition. My previous query use to virtually discard the corelated query result by using -1 as the value. This will not happen in the join query.

How to write REF-CURSOR Query in Oracle Reports
Hello Guys!!
I have a form in which you can select regions/divisions/locations etc by the use of check boxes. And the selected values will be inserted into a table, and based on the selected values of the table the report is run.
The issue I have is with the query inside the Oracle reports(attached to this file).
The query works fine until the last two EXISTS conditions.
IF a region exists In the table report_param then it works fine but if there are no divisions in it , then the query returns no values, which is not correct.
Someone has advised me to use a ref-cursor query inside reports tool, which I am not aware off. So, anykind of suggestions or advises are welcome. Please let me know about it as it is very urgent issue for me. Anykind of help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Vishal

Sub-Select SQL query in Oracle BI Answers
Hi
What's the proper usage of Sub-Select SQL query in Oracle BI Answers Version Oracle Business Intelligence 10.1.3.2.1?
I get [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occured when trying to Sub Select query like:
itemno = (SELECT MIN(orders.itemno) FROM mydatabase where rownum < 2 order by orders.itemno)Maybe the best is to create a new physical and logical object for your sub-select and join this with your current objects.

Can execut a query in Oracle UCM to get View_Values instead of using GET_SC
Dear All,
i have a question that i had google it and didn't find anything helpful.
i want to ask if i can execut a query in Oracle UCM to get View_Values instead of using GET_SCHEMA_VIEW_VLAUES service ?
ie: asuume that we have a Table name called Employees (having empId, empName) and have a view named as Table name; Employees.
instead of use the GET_SCHEMA_VIEW_VLAUES service to get the data of Employees, can i write a query, ex: select from Employees*_ to get the data.
note: i have a connection parameter to connect to oracle UCM database
any suggestions.
RegardsYes, you can execute the query and store results into a result set (available also in iDocScript).
There are two sample components that you could use as a starting point - see here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/webcenter/content/howtocomponentsbundle-132171.zip or here for 11g http://bexhuff.com/2011/03/howto-component-samples-for-oracle-ucm-11g
Take a look at DataAccess and DatabaseProvider from the sample stack. -
How do i run a mdx query in oracle. Do i need to install any extra component.
I used the following query and i get an illegal symbol error...
SELECT
{ [Measures].[sales] } on columns,
{ [Date].[1998],[Date].[1999] } on rows
From units_history_factMDX is not supported by Oracle. If the given database uses Oracle OLAP then you can use the simba connector: http://www.simba.com/connectors/mdx-for-oracle-olap.

Writing query to Oracle DB with DATE field in it.
When I try to execute the following query on Oracle DB I get an exception. I know that the problem is with Date representation on the query string. Please, if anyone knows how to make it work help me.
query = "INSERT INTO MYTABLE (NAME , BIRTHDAY ) VALUES ('" + person.getName() +" ' , " + person.getBirthday() + " )";
statment.executeUpdate(query);
getBirthday() returns java.sql.Date object.
Please, please, help to work it out!Thank you, very much.
I've put the record into DB!!!! Hurray!
But now I have another problem. I've got a ResultSet & I'd like to extract the DATE from it. But how?
The Exception text states that the name of the field (Birthday) is incorrect.
My code:
Date birthday = resultSet.getDate("Birthday");
All other fields are perfectly well extracted, but they are Strings. -

PC session hangs when launch a query from Oracle 9i client to 10g database
I have a pc with Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 client installed. The database server level is 10.1.0.5.
When I launch a query from a client session the pc sesssion locks up and doesn't return any results. When I launch the same query from the database server , or from other pcs with Oracle client 10 installed , I get results almost immediately from the query.
The pc in question is running Windows XP Service pack 2. Other queries run fine from the pc.
Are there are any known issues with Oracle 9 clients querying an Oracle 10 database ?Thank you for your reply. No, I must admit I didn't think of looking at the wait events. I will look at this as soon as I get a chance.
Thanks again for your suggestion. -

Hope doing well,
sir i am using oracle database where i am running my sql query in oracle. but this query is not working properly. i used sql developer translation scratch editor to convert that.
it's converted but i am not getting the exact value.
which i was getting in sql server.
here is my query below:
SELECT C.*,ISNULL(P.Comp_Name,'') + ' (' + ISNULL(P.Comp_ID,'') + ')' Parent FROM Comp_Master C LEFT JOIN Comp_Master P ON C.Parent_ID = P.Comp_ID Where C.Comp_ID='C02'
please convert it into oracle so that i can use this query
thanks in advance.Try --
1. Use NVL instead of isNull
2. Use *||* instead of +*
/* Formatted on 9-13-2012 4:39:09 PM (QP5 v5.163.1008.3004) */
SELECT c.*, NVL (p.comp_name, '') || ' (' || NVL (p.comp_id, '') || ')' parent
FROM comp_master c LEFT JOIN comp_master p ON c.parent_id = p.comp_id
WHERE c.comp_id = 'C02'
