Crystal Reports for VS2010 using a custom SAP ABAP function module data source

I recently worked with Crystal Reports 2011 and was able to connect and retrieve data from our R/3 system via an ABAP function module. While researching other features, I found this version that can be installed into Visual Studio 2010. The parameters are not very user friendly in Crystal Reports so I was hoping to create a custom dialog to collect my report parameters.
Does anyone know if I were to install Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010, would I be able to design a front-end selection screen in a Visual Basic form and then pass the input to through the Crystal Reports connection to my ABAP function module to retrieve the data filtered on the back-end by the selection screen parameters and return the results to be reported in the Crystal Reports output?
I am using Visual Studio 2010 Professional Visual Basic with the .NET Framework 4.0 on 32-bit Windows 7. I was able to connect to our R/3 system in Crystal Reports 2011, so if I were to install Crystal Reports for VS2010, would there be a similar way of connecting to SAP?
Any assistance or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bryan

Hello Bryan
I don't know for sure, but I doubt this will work in CRVS2010. Only hope is that the utility available for download in this KBA will point you in the right direction.

  • Crystal Report for VS2010 show Login when deployed

I am having a problem with my Windows Form project in VS2010 regarding
the SAP Crystal Reports for VS2010.
When I deploy my project on client's PC it shows a login dialog box.
The client's PC is in XP.
I already installed the correct runtime in their PC.
When the login dialog box appear and the cancel button is clicked,
    the Report shows correctly.
But our client did not want to always see the login dialog box.
I already try to fix it like this:
u2022 Add connection and login info in the codes (CrystalDecisions.Shared.ConnectionInfo)
u2022 Verify and reconnect the database
u2022 reinstall the runtime of Crystal Report(CRRuntime_32bit_13_0_1.msi)
    But nothing works.
I am using an XML schema to display the report, I do not directly connect
    to a database. Like this:
    CrystalReport.SetDataSource(DataSet);
    The framework I use is C#.Net 3.5.
My project is in Windows Form.
My Crystal Report for VS2010 version is 13.0.1
    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance.

    Moved to .NET SDK forum.
Can you clarify? What data source are you using? Direct connection to the DB or Dataset?
It's prompting because what ever source you are using doesn't have the proper connection method being used or the log on info is incorrect.

    Hello Mani
Yes, the runtime is required on all computers that the app will run on. See the wiki [Deploying Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 runtime|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/x/ZwdeDw]. Also, consult your CRVS2010 developer help file:

  • Crystal Reports for VS2010 Prerequisites for ClickOnce Deployment

  • Crystal Reports for VS2010 installation problems

I downloaded and installed the CRforVS_13_0.exe. After installing Crystal for VS2010 the installer informed me that I required the 64bit Viewer runtime installed and asked if I would like it installed. I took the default (to install) and it failed, it looked as though the command line for the MSI was incorrect. I manually ran the CRRuntime_64bit_13_0.msi.
I can create and view a report in VS2010 (Professional) but when I compile the application  get the following error:
u201CThe type or namespace name 'CrystalDecisions' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)u201D
I have checked that the assemblies are correctly referenced and I can view them in the object viewer by double clicking on them.
I manually downloaded the CRforVC_redist_install_64bit_10.0.zip and installed that, but it made no difference.
Can anyone tell me how I can overcome this?
    TIA

Edited by: FGBChad on Dec 7, 2010 3:27 PM

    The assemblies are
C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86\dotnet\CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86\dotnet\CrystalDecisions.ReportSource.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86\dotnet\CrystalDecisions.Shared.dll
    All assemblies are version  13.0.0.99.
These references were added by the framework. I have tried manually adding the references and ensuring that they point to the correct files, as above.
I get the same error if I remove the references, so it appears that they can not be accessed, In the Event Viewer, application log I found the following:
The description for Event ID 4353 from source Crystal Reports cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
The keycode assembly, BusinessObjects.Licensing.KeycodeDecoder.dll, cannot be loaded.
the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table

  • Crystal Reports for Eclipse - Using .csv files?

I recently installed crystal reports for Eclipse and much of the basic CR functionality seems to be there, but then I added a .csv file as an ODA flat file data source and I can see it in my "Data Source Explorer", but can not seem to drag it into my report to actually use the data.  Am I missing some basic step?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hello Chris,
I recommend to post this query to the [Crystal Reports Design|SAP Crystal Reports; forum.
This forum is dedicated to topics related to the creation and design of Crystal Report documents. This includes topics such as database connectivity, parameters and parameter prompting, report formulas, record selection formulas, charting, sorting, grouping, totaling, printing, and exporting but also installation and registering.
It is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there.
Also, all Crystal Reports Design queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.

  • Crystal Reports for VS2010 Beta Uninstall

When trying to install the release version for Visual Studio 2010 I was prompted that the beta version was still installed.  I attempted to uninstall the beta version using Add/Remove Programs but nothing would happen when I tried this...I just got an hour glass for a few seconds and then it went back to the default.  After reading through another thread I did the following:
    - Deleted the "SAP Business Objects" folder from Program Files
    - Deleted the registry folder: HKLM\Software\SAP Business Objects
    - Deleted the registry folder: KCU\Software\SAP Business Objects
    - Looked for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall{2D87DD11-EAE0-4F05-BF92-A96A7CDC186B} to delete it but did not find this specific item.
After doing the above I was able to successfully install the release version of Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 but when I went to add a Crystal Report Viewer control to my form I noticed the control version was still 14.0.2.
What else do I need to do to get rid of any trace of the beta version?

  • Buffer too small for string - Crystal Report for Vs2010

    Hello,
I have recently upgrade my VS2010 project to Crystal Report for Visual Studion 2010.
I have some reports that contains more than 512 characters in the Report Comments section.
When I try to do a RptDoc.SaveAs(vPath, false) the following error is raised:
Buffer too small for string or missing null byte.
          at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc.ReportClientDocumentClass.SaveAs in :line 0
          at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportClientDocumentWrapper.SaveAs in :line 0
          at CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument.SaveAs in :line 0
This line SaveAs was working has expected with Crystal Report 2008. Any idea on why it is not working anymore.
    Thank you.
    Charles

    Hello Don,
I have start a little project to retest the behavior.
I have create a new report in Crystal Report 2008 just by clicking New, Finish and Save.
In a new Windows Application in Vs2010 ,I have added the following Crystal Report Reference.
        CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, Version=13.0.2000.0
       CrystalDecisions.Shared, Version=13.0.2000.0
I have then try the following code and found out the limit of ReportComment is 511 but in the Crystal Report 2008 designer and runtime the limit did not apply.
    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
          Dim objRpt As New CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument()
          Dim i As Integer = 0
          Try
             objRpt.Load("c:\temp\empty.rpt", CrystalDecisions.Shared.OpenReportMethod.OpenReportByTempCopy)
             Do
                i += 1
                objRpt.SummaryInfo.ReportComments = New String("X", i)
             Loop
             objRpt.SaveAs("c:\temp\dfh_save.rpt", False)
          Catch ex As Exception
             MsgBox("i: " & i)
             MsgBox(ex.Message)
          End Try
    End Sub
I am able to put has many characters if I insert the report in the Vs2010 Solution.
If you prefer I can send you my little project.
    Thank you.

  • Where-Used List: Modifying SAP standard function module

    Hi,
We have decided to modify SAP standard function module SD_SCHEDULING. But before that, we need to understand what impact this modification will have in the system. We will also estimate the risks with this modification.
Therefore, I have taken Where-Used List for this function module. We are aware that this list is not comprehensive.
Do you know any other way we could use to understand better what impacts this kind of modification may have? My colleagues say that this is the only way.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    Jarmo Tuominen

    Hi Jarmo,
    Try this
1). Goto Se16 and check the contents of table 'CROSS'.
2). Enter 'F' in the first selection screen field
3). In the NAME field enter the Function module SD_SCHEDULING and execute.
4). The list will give you where all the FM has been used.
Kindly note this is almost the same as doing a where used list. The where used list will only work correctly if the 'Update Navigation Index' works correctly in your system. So just to ensure the result of your where used list you can follow the above steps. This does not require the Update Navigation Index.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers

  • Crystal Reports for VS2010 versus Crystal Reports 2011

I'm not exactly new to CR, however, I have been away from it for a while and am now being tasked to work with this product again. Alot has changed in that period of time. I'm currently using Visual Studio 2010 and I have learned that Crystal Reports is no longer integrated within Visual Studio but available from SAP as a free download as Crystal Reports 2010 and will essentially be a plug in to the Visual Studio 2010 development environment once installed.
In my effort to find a sample database as well as any additional documentation related to Crystal Reports 2010, I'm finding and/or seeing a lot of information related to Crystal Reports 2011 and little or nothing related to Crystal Reporst 2010.
    1. Is CR2011 a seperate, stand-alone product versus CR2010, which is now a seperate download and plug in product to VS2010?
    2. Are there any sample databases, sample reports, sample .NET code available for CR2010?
    3. Do I have it all wrong and CR2010 is really CR2011 and SAP is just trying to confuse everybody?
    Marlon

    Hi Marlon,
    1. Is CR2011 a seperate, stand-alone product versus CR2010, which is now a seperate download and plug in product to VS2010?
CR 2011 is the Full standalone Report Designer, no SDK with it. The CR for VS 2010 is the plugin that was shipped within the VS .NET as an included plug-in , you just have to install it separately with VS 2010. The complimentary SDK is in CR for VS 2010 which has the matching CR 2011 report Designer.
    2. Are there any sample databases, sample reports, sample .NET code available for CR2010?
No, but you can use the ones from our download page: These are for[ CR XI R2|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100005852352008E/cr_xi_xtreme_rep_smpl_en.zip] and is based on the old reports that you are familiar with.
For sample code see this [page|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/CrystalReportsSDKSampleApplications], lots of them available.
RAS is the new Report Designer RCAPI SDK and you can find the help for the SDK from the same page you downloaded the installer.
    3. Do I have it all wrong and CR2010 is really CR2011 and SAP is just trying to confuse everybody?
We are trying to confuse everyone... just kidding. It's the way the latest builds are released. CR 2011 has no SDK and CR for VS 2010 is the SDK for CR 2011.
You'll also notice that CR for VS 2010 is version 13 and CR 2011 is version 14 which matches Business Objects Enterprise Version 4.0
    Thanks
    Don
