CS4 Should I Stay or should I Go ?

I am having a difficult time to decide if I should stay with Dreamweaver as my WYSIWYG editor for web development.
I am still quite new to the whole Dynamic website development but am well experienced in Visual Basic
I have been using Dreamweaver MX (I know its dated) and learning it from a old book I had on DW Mx
I have discovered that ASP is dead or on its way out and ASP.NET is quickly becoming the new standerd for back end web development logic and bowser indepentent websites. Sooo.....
My Problem is this:
I recently found out that CS4 as dropped ASP.NET all together (for the most part) and that CS3 only has ASP.NET 1.1 support. I really like the Dreamweaver IDE because it is very nice for doing front end design and easy too. However I am not going to switch to PHP or JAVA stuff for back end dev I know and like .NET enviroment (somewhat)  and wish to stay with that technology so am I better off droping Dreamweaver all together and going with MS Visual Studio or MS Expression or is there a way that I can keep Dreamweaver (which I would like) and still be able to do the ASP.NET stuff in a different program and than just add it to my Dreamweaver stuff when its ready. I don't know if Dreamweaver will allow you to marry stuff done in ASP.NET with other software to stuff developed in Dreamweaver or not and even if it does I am unsure this is practical perhaps I am better off just dumping Dreamweaver.
Soo.... Should I stay or should I go ?

I guess I wasn't as clear as I thought I was being.   Expression Web like Dreamweaver is more of a front-end design program with some light server side tools in it. You don't really write server side code that much in either one since Code Completion (DW) and Intellisense (EW) basically give you syntax highlighting and some properties but neither are the best choice for serious back-end development. EW lets you interact with the ASP.NET 2.0/3.5 controls. Dreamweaver CS 3 has limited ASP.NET 1/1.1 support which have different capabilities and require a different application pool from 2.0/3.5. You shouldn't mix the two because they really aren't that compatible. Besides the ASP.NET 1/1.1 code output is pretty bad while 2.0/3.5 can be as clean as you have the knowledge to make it.
I don't think it matters much which version of Dreamweaver you when it comes to ASP.NET because you shouldn't rely on any Dreamweaver dotnet controls/appications. What support that is available in CS3 is ASP.NET 1/1.1 and it isn't compatible with ASP.NET 2.0 which is what most hosting is running. Besides ASP.NET 1.0/1.1 is a typical first release product and many of the things have been fixed in 2.0. ASP.NET 3.5 is primarily the Windows Presentation Foundation toolset running on top of 2.0 which is still used for underlying processing so those are what you typically find together in hosting.
There are other benefits from moving to CS 4 from CS 3 but working with dotnet isn't one of them and shouldn't influence the decision on which version to use.
You should spend some time over at http://asp.net in their beginner tutorials because code behind doesn't run in script tags but rather in separate cs or vb files. VB.NET is absolutely nothing like the Visual Basic you are familiar with. My partner has had a difficult time moving from VB to VB.NET as a result. Far more than I had since I used only VBScript. Many of the Classic ASP users I know have migrated to PHP instead of of moving to dotnet for that reason. The structure and methods are closer between ASP & PHP than they are between dotnet and classic ASP. So you might want to experiement a little with both VB.NET and PHP before you commit completely. Get the free Visual Web Developer Express for testing dotnet and use Dreamweaver for testing out PHP.
After you have a handle on which is really a better choice for you then you are in a better position to know how to proceed.

  • IDVD stability is not good, *many* crashes, should I stay or should I go?

OK, I seem to be just the latest to rant on this topic, but I've got a brand new MacBook Pro, with 10.6.2, and if iDVD stays running for more than 10 minutes without crashing I'm doing well. Unlike other posters, I've not yet had a crash while burning. The trouble for me is getting to the point where I'm ready to burn. Just the most basic manipulation of buttons, sometimes just setting text, or placing the button on the page will often result in a crash. I'm now to the point where I save after just about every gesture. Not good!
    Apple, was this thing tested?
BTW, my experience with iMovie has been a little better, but not much. Many crashes, but fortunately not quite as often.
Apple community at large, should I give up on these apps? Am I going to just be endlessly frustrated? Are there new versions in the works? Or at least some serious updates?
Thanks for reading to the end!

The problems I've seen here relate to people updating to Snow Leopard from Leopard or earlier. SL is pretty much a complete rewrite, so I'm not surprised that some folks have problems. Another problem I've seen relates to people who install there own hard drive because there seem to be some EFI firmware issues.
Really, I think it's just buggy software.
I've seen nothing to support that supposition. Like I said, everything works great for MANY of us.
I worked for a long time on Windows with Adobe Premiere and never once had a crash
Now, THAT I find hard to believe
Did you install QuickTime 7 from the install DVD? (It goes in your Utilities folder). I'm not a big fan of QuickTime X when working with some video formats.
I don't have that much video in my current projects (few hundred Gig)
Actually, a few HUNDRED GIGS sounds like a lot to me. Where is it stored? If its all on your internal hard drive you may be having problems with scratch space.
Did you go for the 7200 rpm hard disk drive option (like I did)?

  • Should I stay or should I go...Mac to PC?

I've been a Mac user since the mid 90's, but after talking with a friend that has a late 08 MBP, he has several issues that Apple will not fix and says he is ready to go to a PC. On his word, he states that many have posted the same problems he has and no one has come up with a fix. I just now quickly viewed the Apple forum and see post about issues with MBP. I do not want to go to a PC, because of the software change, but would consider it and I could care less about those that think it's just cool to have a Mac. I am a graphic designer and went to Mac in the mid 90's because it was the best choice.
My question is: Have the issues with the nvidia chip been fixed? My friends issues are he can't change the brightness of his screen and the DVD player is hit or miss on burning DVD's or CD's (any brand)? He works with Avid and needs to set his screen to the desired brightness setting, but it will not work in or out of Avid. I see many post about other issues that I did not mention, but my experience with forums are the post are from the ones that have issues and not from the larger percentage of those that don't have problems.
    thanks,
    m

It's not a matter of advantages or disadvantages. This thread isn't about deciding on a PC or Mac, it's about whether the MBP is good and will work without problems. If objective research shows that a product is very faulty, there are real problems that show up in a lot of the machines and they're not getting fixed, then you shouldn't get that machine. But having a friend with these problems doesn't mean they're rampant problems. And that friend saying that others are having this problems as well doesn't prove it either (how many people have this problem? Did he say?).
Research done on electronics indicates that 10% of any electronics, from any company will have problems. These machines are complicated, a lot in a little space, etc., and in a certain percentage of them things can go wrong. PC or Mac. If the MBP has more than 10% such problems, then it's above what it ought to be and you may want to think twice about it. If not, then there's no reason to panic and think that Apple is suddenly putting out bad computers. Your friend got a lemon. That's all.
And before you switch, you should check out whether the other PC companies have problems and how bad are those problems (above that 10%?), and whether they get good customer service. Apple still has the highest rating in customer service and satisfaction with that service, even if your friend was unhappy with them (and I still think he should call up Apple and pursue this till he is satisfied).
Personally, I would have to read that MBP's were really, really bad and having a lot of problems across the board before I'd go PC. Not because PC don't have advantages, but simply because I can't stand their operating system. And when you get a PC, you say good-bye to Apple's operating system.

  • Logic9/SnowLeopard: Should I stay or should I go?

Here I am, sitting on the fence and trying to read something out of the mayhem.
I have a brand new computer, currently equipped with Leopard (10.5.8), and Logic 9.
I have just about installed my favourite tools, but not more than about 300GB...and I plan to keep this my studio computer, so I won't install too much rubbish on it except for audio stuff.
So this is the right time, I guess, to decide: Should I go for Snow Leopard with my Logic9 installation? Or should I backpaddle to Logic8 on Leopard for a while, waiting for Logic 9 to "stabilize"?
I hear bad things, and I hear good things, but there seems to be a common experience that Logic9 with SnowLeopard works well, but people are having issues with mixing Logic9 and Leopard, or mixing Logic8 and Snow Leopard.
    Anyone else the same feeling?
    Cheers!

    Hi guys,
    sorry for all your replies!
Maybe I was unclear, but I am currently using OSX 10.5.8, and Logic9.
I have not had time to test the setup during as many hours as I'd like, so I can't tell whether it is stable yet.
The one thing I see, is every time I open a project (all of them created with Logic8), a dialog opens, saying: "Could not create new user preset file". The best part is the buttons on that dialog: Yes, no and cancel
I'll give it a few weeks and see how annoyed I get.
My gut feeling is also to wait out SnoLep a little, but I got my free upgrade and it's lying there looking all nice and shiny and with that cute cat on it...
    Cheers!

  • Macbook Pro - Should it stay or should it go?

    Hey,
I bought my first Macbook Pro in November last year,
Now several months later I have found it to be becoming increasingly faulty, first i noticed the lid has begun to warp on both sides and now has an evident curve.
Second an area of the screen has begun showing signs of discoloration, only slight and it appears a bit like a sharp point of light reflecting off the screen from some other light source.
Now more recently the keyboard has begun failing which meant restarting the system to sort it out, however now it has begun affecting both the keyboard and the touchpad and a restart is no longer fixing it, it is frequent and very annoying, sometimes it will only affect the keyboard and sometimes both the keyboard and touchpad, it seems to last anywhere between five minutes to a few hours which means I am reliant on an external keyboard and mouse. After reading about expanding batteries causing the problem I removed the battery and used the mains which didn't sort it out.
Also the Superdrive has begun ejecting discs at random, this is bloody annoying when trying to work.
Finally it has begun crashing when I am doing barely anything, yesterday I was browsing the web when I was told I needed to restart it. Today it crashed when typing this bloody post.
Does anyone have any ideas? Obviously its going to have to go in for repairs (hopefully replacement) when I get a chance but is there anyone else who has experienced any of this?
Also I've got a 3 Year Applecare Warranty,
Hope someone has an idea as to whats up with this **** laptop,
    Daniel

Carbon copy cloner or Superduper both work. ive used super duper and it is a great program.
it sounds to me like you just got uber unlucky and got every possiably issue you could. if you havent already try to talk to a customer service rep not an apple care rep (you either have to ask for them or there is a different number but i dont know it off hand) and just explain what has all happened (dont think you need to be told this since you have been extremely calm with this but ya just remember polite but firm gets you a lonnnnng way). with all these issues on a 6 month old machine i would expect a replacement.
the KB/TP issue could be caused by the battery, see if it is bulging if so remove it and try to run on just the ac adapter if you can (it cuts the processor speed way down but if that is causing the KB issue removing it should help).
all in all the repairs on the machine are not worth it for apple to even do cost wise to just giving you a new one: screen replacement, battery/KB/top casing to fix the KB issue, reinstall of the OS or maybe a logic board with the weird expose stuff you have. the warp they may have just chalked up as cosmetic but with all the other issues and if its really bad thats even another issue. so basically when it comes down to it basically half your machine would have to be replaced if they just serviced it

  • Should I stay or should I go.....................

.........if I go will there be trouble, if I stay I'll end up paying (nearly) double?
So, I have BT BB Option 3 and Anytime calls - Been with BT since 1989.
Due to distance from the exchange and the size of said exchange my BB connection is only @ 4Mb.
Just payed my quarterly bills (2 accounts - long story) - £155 in total - that is an awful lot for awfully little.
BT seem to offer comparable packages to new customers - even offering Infinity packages where available for a lot less than I am being charged.
No attempt to offer me anything to retain my custom.
BT seem to charge for weekend calls to mobiles - from my latest bill - where The Post Office say these are free.
Having never switched phone or BB provider, I am unsure what differences to expect.
For instance, is 1571 BT specific, or is it available to other providers and if not is there an alternative option?
I assume that I will lose Digital Vault - or can this still be accessed? I can do without this to be honest what with Dropbox and Skydrive and Amazon to name but 3.
Would I retain access to my BT email account (provided I access it regularly so it doesn't get deemed lapsed) as I have all my email history there - or do I need to set up Outlook and archive it all off?
Presumably the physical line is the same but what is different for non-BT BB providers - at what point does the connection get routed differently (at the local exchange) and through different servers? I ask this due to the frequency of BB hangups/dropouts and in hope that this may be improved by going elsewhere.
Presumably, if I leave BT, I then have the option to come back as a new customer and get offered incentives accordingly. Assuming a 12 month minimum contract elsewhere - can I assume that BT will view me as a new customer in 12 months?
    Regards
    Steve O.

If I were you I'd pay the cancellation fee and get out. BT are never going to improve their customer service, the contempt they have for their customers is palpable.

  • E71 with Maps 2... should I stay or should I go......

Currently in China... fantastic country...amazing cold spell... snow 3m thick in places... Europe appears the same... still a working off line version of maps would be very useful...
I have an E71 phone with maps 2 and the chat seems to be I'm better of staying with this version than Ovi3... Are the issues with Maps 3 fixed? and could someone point this poor ludite to the link to the upgrade?
    Xiexie

No cell company due to a correct bill go and forgive that $60.
Let's say one million customers all called and because they also did not back date the plan now all owe $60 or more and call in and ask for an accommodation just look at how much money Verizon would lose.
No carrier will do what you ask.
So my advice is to go and see if another carrier will do what you wish.
But remember, there are activation fees and plan fees and you have to spend more money on new devices. Makes sense spend $800+ to save $60.
    Good Luck

  • 20+ years  Should I stay, or should I go?  THAT is the question!  VZW?

It's up for grabs folks and I do not ask for much.  I invite VZW to demonstrate just how much you value your customers, right here in this very public forum, and to do what it takes to keep this, among many, many others, very long standing, very loyal customer very happy, OR.....  I do not ask for much.  So, take this opportunity to show the world of prospective subscribers that either A - At the very least, your oldest customers do matter, or by omission, B - No customers really matter.  After all, and as I always say, a company can get by while doing without many things, but its customers isn't one of them.
So what's it gonna be VZW? Got the extra mile for your customers?  Kindly send a can-do, get-it-done customer retention expert who's as mindful as I am that it's much cheaper to keep an existing customer very happy than to solicit and procure a new one especially in this age of customer churn & turnover. Thereby, obviously, it'll be much more costly than a single new customer to replace the oldest lifelong customers.  Since Verizon is fairly young, and in effort to substantiate my claim, I detail my history for clarification.  My twenty years includes Verizon Wireless (misc & smart phones), Bell Atlantic Mobile (long awaited Moto Startac dual-band Tri-mode CDMA), Frontier Cellular (Sony Q-800 first digital CDMA), NYNEX Mobile Comm (Moto 550? original flip) and, to my best recollection, Buffalo Telephone (Moto 3W bag phone)
Many of us customers are still mindful that the 'Verizon' name was intended to represent many strong positive images including 'limitless possibilities.'  In our minds, the response 'I'm sorry sir, that can't be done' to very reasonable and understandable requests that we all make at one time or another, definitely does lead us to identify with 'limitless possibilities.'  We've all been there.  Did I mention that I do not ask for much?

The theory is that a company has got to value its customers.  Anyone that operates their own business must know that.  Its an inescapable reality.  I've seen small businesses disintegrate for failing the basic principal of not valuing their customers. And, if they value you any, it'll be the oldest most loyal.  Try to imagine you run your restaurant.  The Z family has been dining in your restaurant almost every Friday for umteen years averaging $100 check.  Suddenly one visit they're not happy and send the food back.  Are you going to say too bad, take it or leave it? That's now ongoing future business you know you chased out the door and will not return.  You decide you want them back, you gonna have to bend over and give them something to get them back in and make nice, when all you had to do was fix it in the first place... The least expensive and best solution. My purpose here is to speak to vzw in terms they can understand, receive customer service or plainly expose to everyone that they really don't care at all.  A public relations problem that they do care about, proof being there are PR agents at the company.  And, there are costs associated with customer acquisition. Perhaps they wouldn't like us to realize it, but there are costs in advertising, promotion discounts, subsidized equipment and staffing to bring us in the doors.  At last check, I know vzw calculated 12 months before break even on a new subscriber acquisition.  Additionally, I try to make it clear, It's not the money I care about, especially $36.  Besides, I know how to get way more than that back in value.  Utility monopolies are unfortunately a necessary evil, still.  But, the monopoly aspect disrupts the free market nature of that industry and it's next to impossible for customers to switch save solar power, wood burners or water wells.  Landline is pretty much dead, but the free market has found a way to maintain it by bundling services together.  Has anyone even bothered to employ the public service commission in a complaint for resolution.

  • What in the name of Goodness have you done re: the full screen picture of Contacts on my iPhone? Sort it out Apple or I'm going back to Samsung, where maybe I should have stayed!

What in the name of Goodness have you done with the full screen picture of Contacts? How dare you just change it without so much as a bye or leave? This is NOT progress but a throwback to about 1997! I supposedly 'updated' to an iPhone two weeks ago. Should have stayed with Samsung I reckon. I am deeply unimpressed!

  • Open Question to Adobe - Why Should I Stay?

Okay, there are now thousands of posts complaining about Adobe Creative Cloud.  There are over 31,000 signatures gathered in protest.  So far, Adobe is eerily silent.  So I am asking Adobe, why should I stay with you?  Why?  Why should I use Creative Cloud at $600 a year when I have been updating my Creative Suite about every other year for $700 (that's $350 per year)?  Why should I stay with you when you do not seem to be responding to your customer's complaints?  Why should i stay with you when you act as if everyone is so very happy with Creative Cloud and you seem to be ignoring the uproar as if it is not even happening?  Why should I stay with you when you act more and more like a monopoly that is strangling its customers?  I am a professional that has used your products for almost fifteen years.  Why on earth should I stay with you?
Others are invited to post but I am curious if Adobe will ever respond to this.

Do you know a little bit of marketing rules?
Do you know, how difficult it is to bring some one to action - espec. protest?
Do you know about the % returning of feedback surveys (compareable... = 2-5 %)?
(Believe me and follow regarding blogs: That are many more than 33.000 protests - no question)
These subscribers in the last Q are because they spared all their new features to their "great CC day" on June 17th and because the discounts for CS6 users will end soon.
These numbers (and in my eyes they are anything else than good) are a result of their forcing evil plan.
They will drop down in August, when their are no longer discounts for CS6 users. We will see.
Also let´s wait on the numbers, when they have to rise prices, and there is no longer income from CS6.
700.000 of 12 Mio & the same amount of pirates (estimated) during a year a great success???
Throwing half of the usership into garbage a good plan? = Reinventing economy?
If you think, there will be no users who will replace Adobe with competitors - I´m one of them.
Always was working parallel with QuarkXPress (and I like a lot - faster than InDesign - espec. in case of big documents (lots of text)). Also OWN the lifelong Right to use my Apple Video solutions (and thinking about investing to Avid now). My FreeHand still is running (also faster than Illustrator - even it is so old) ang still good for 95% of Vector Graphic. In case of Web-Design I have no great problem - Flash is slowly dying and competition is given. The only App not 100% replaceable is PS. But if it´s necessary, my MasterCollections will work the next 10 years on their actual MAC PROs (or virtualization). There is nothing I´m missing of their overwhelming solution.
If I would estimate: CS6 will become the WIN XP of Adobe. It will still survive over decades
(...or  Adobe is bought by better managers after it´s end)

Try opening a terminal window (Applications >> Utilities). At the prompt, enter:

This will ask you for the admin password and it will restart the Cisco client service. That should fix it. This seems to be a known issue that will eventually be solved with some updates.
