CS4 (v11.0.2) won't recognise RAW files from my Canon 5D MKII camera

Hi Folks.  I'm running a MAC Pro (2x3 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon machine with 8GB;s of RAM (DDR2 FB-DIMM)
Up till last week, I was running this machine on Leopard, but last week, I started a new drive. Installed Snow Leopard on it and did a clean install with all my programs, but I did migrate over the Users folder. Other than that, programs have been individually reinstalled.   I've been very impressed with photoshop CS4 on snow leopard, via a Macbook pro, so I knew that this was worth pursuing for improved speed and performance.
I bought the Snoe Leopard upgrade disc from MAC and did the install.  I've been using my CS4 on the Leopard program that used to run this machine and it worked flawlessly, however now under Snow Leopard  I am getting a message that tells me that Photoshop doesn't understand the camera files now.  This didn't happen before except when the Canon 5D MKII first came out and you guys made a patch for it.   My machine is behaving like that again now, despite the fact that I'm running 11.0.2 on photoshop CS4  Do you have any suggestions anyone?...
Aloha
Sean
P.S.  Other than this current inconvenience, the program runs very fast now....

In Photoshop, go to the menu Photoshop>About Plug-ins>Camera Raw... What version does it say you have? You need version 5.2 or later for support for the 5D MkII.
You can download it here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4680

  • Bridge won't open raw files from my canon mark iii

Bridge won't open raw files from my canon mark iii?  Are you kidding adobe? This camera has been out for over six months. Why isn't it loaded into the program? This camera is sooo main stream!

    What Mark III?
Are you referring to the Canon EOS 1D Mark III or the Canon EOS 5D Mark III?
And what version of Adobe software are you referring to?
There definitely is support for the EOS 1D Mark III in in versions of the Creative Suite dating back several versions. Support for the EOS 5D Mark III was made available in an update to Creative Suite 6 and Lightroom 4.x.

  • CS 5 Extended won't open Raw files from my Canon SL1

My Raw plug-in version is 6.7.0.339. Is there a later version for me to download and install? Do I need to use Adobe DNG Converter? If so, which version?
Forgive me if this question has been asked before. I did search the forums but didn't find an answer for CS5 Extended.
    Thanks!

Your version of Photoshop will not open Canon Digital Rebel SL1 images directly. Support wasn't added until Photoshop CS6 in Camera Raw 7.4.
Adobe stopped updating older versions of Camera Raw to be able to read raw files from newer cameras whenever they released a new major version of Photoshop.  Thus, the version you have is no longer receiving updates and will never directly be able to open your CR2 files.
    You can check this yourself:
First you need to determine when Adobe released support for your new camera in Photoshop. To do that, look at these two pages.  You'll want to find out the earliest version of Camera Raw that can support your camera, then what version of Photoshop can run that version of Camera Raw.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
Since your version of Photoshop cannot support your camera directly , you can download and install the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter, which can take your raw files as input and put out DNG format files, which your version of Photoshop can open.
Photoshop Help | Digital Negative (DNG)
The DNG converter DOES work, and you will be able to open the converted DNG files with your version of Photoshop, but if you want maximal quality from your raw files (not to mention the convenience and ease of use of directly opening your raw files) you'll want the latest version of Photoshop. Adobe has made substantial improvements in raw conversion quality in recent years.

  • Help! My CS3 won't open RAW files from my Canon EOS 7D..

I have always used Photoshop CS3 - I like it and am quick with it, and I shoot RAW files on Canon EOS.
I don't want to upgrade to CS5, however since upgrading my camera to a 7D, Photoshop will no longer
open my RAW files. I've tried to update plug-ins, I've tried to work through DNG [it won't open those either]
and I've tried for hours on end to get an answer from Adobe on the phone. Nothing is working. Does anyone
have any advice for me please? I'm begining to tear my hair out!! Emma

    Hi,
Are you saying your Ps CS3 won't even open the sample DNG file (/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Samples/Doors.dng)? If that's the case then you need to make sure you have the correct Camera Raw 4 plug-in installed properly.
If it is just DNGs generated from your 7D files, then maybe the DNG Converter options need to be tweaked.
    regards

  • Photoshop Elements 9 and cannot open Raw files from my Canon EOS 1000D camera.

I am using Photoshop Elements 9 on a Windows 7 based PC and would like to know why I cannot open Raw files produced by my Canon EOS 1000D camera.
I have checked the version of the plug in as 6.5 for raw files which is supposed to open .cr2 files and should be compatible according to Adobe site info.
    any ideas for next move.
    Mick

    Hi,
According to all of Adobe's charts, the Canon 1000D should be supported by the basic PSE 9 even without updates. When you said you checked the camera raw version in PSE, did you do that by going to the Help menu and selecting About plugins -> Camera raw?
The Canon 1200D requires ACR 8.4 which is only compatible with PSE 12 - so for PSE 10 your brother would need the DNG converter.
I can't find a sample raw file to try (I do have PSE 9). If you want to upload a sample file to dropbox and give me access, I could try it on my system.
Have you tried opening one of your files on your brothers system?

  • My iPhoto won't recognise raw files from my new camera

... (it still recognises them from the old camera). The specs are different and I've upgraded iPhoto to the latest list of supported cameras. Any ideas?  Thanks, Lee

The Raw on that camera simply isn't on the supported list:
iPhoto Menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback and let them know you want it supported.
I would expect the DNG to be accessible though, but I'm not terribly familiar with the format. I would google around a bit. IIRC there are variations within the DNG format - linear/non-linear or something like that - one of which will work with iPhoto and Aperture.

  • Why won't CS4 open the CR2 RAW files from my Canon G11?

I am running Snow Leopard  V6.2. I have Adobe Design Premium with what I thought were all of the most recent updates loaded but when I tried to open one of the RAW files from my Canon G11  in PS CS4 it did not recognize the file type and it and would not open.  Wouldn't CS4 premium update also update PS CS4 with all the most recent files including ACR and the latest definitions?
What version of ACR would have the latest RAW definitions for the G11 and how should it be loaded?

This is what is written on that page:
    To open a DMG file:
Double-click the file. This will open Disk Copy, which mounts the image on your desktop.
    Manual installation on Mac:
    1. Exit Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Bridge.
    2. Open the download file and double-click Setup, and follow the on-screen instructions.
    3. Launch Photoshop CS4 or Adobe Bridge.
    Is that so difficult?

  • Photoshop CS5.1 won't read raw files from Canon EOS M

Photoshop cs5.1 won't read raw files from canon eosM, what to do?

The EOS M requires at least Camera Raw 7.2 but Raw 7.2 is only compatible with CS6 or higher (CS5 is only compatible up to Raw 6.7)
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
To open and edit Raw files, either upgrade to CS6 or join the Cloud and get the CC version.
Alternatively convert the Raw files from the EOS M to DNGs using the free DNG converter then edit the DNGs in CS5.1

I am using PSE 9. I had no problem opening my Raw files from my Canon Rebel XT  Now  I have a Rebel 5ti and pse 9 won't reconize the Cr2 files

    See this faq:
FAQ: Will Photoshop Elements work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?
That will explain why each new camera model uses its own raw format. (.CR2 does not indicate a format, only a Canon family of formats).
The first link tells you what version of camera raw is needed for your camera : https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    You need ACR 7.4
The second link tells you which ACR versions are supported by Elements versions Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
    PSE9 supports version 6.5
Further down on that paper, you get links to download the free Adobe DNGconverter for Mac or Win.
This standalone software can batch convert a whole folder of raw files to the DNG raw file format that your present PSE9 can read.
Otherwise, you would have to upgrade to version 10 or later.

I am having some huge problems with my colorspace settings. Every time I upload my raw files from my Canon 5D mark II or 6D the pics are perfect in color. That includes the back of my camera, the pic viewer on my macbook pro, and previews. They even look normal when I first open them in photoshop. I will edit, save, and then realize once i've sent it to myself to test the color is WAY off. This only happens in photoshop. I've read some forums and have tried different things, but it seems to be making it worse. PLEASE HELP! Even viewing the saved image on the mac's pic viewer is way off once i've edited in photoshop. I am having to adjust all my colors by emailing myself to test. Its just getting ridiculous.

Check the color space in camera raw, the options are in the link at the bottom of the dialog box. Then when saving make sure you save it to the srgb color space when sending to others. Not all programs understand color space and or will default to srgb. That won't necessarily mean it will be accurate, but it will put it in the ballpark. Using save for web will use the srgb color space.

  • Adobe Camera Raw in CS3 is having problems with the RAW files from my Canon 5D Mark II

Adobe Bridge will import the CS2 raw files from the camera card in m Canon 5D Mark II but it will not create thumbnails nor will it convert them to DNG. I want to update the raw reading software but the update page indicates that it only updates into CS4. Will I have to upgrade to CS4 before I can import from my new camera?
    ML

The dng converter does indeed work but it adds an extra step to the workflow. Raw files from my Canon 40D are exported and converted to dng in Bridge in one step. Now I must add the extra step of using dng converter. Can I upgrade Adobe Bridge's raw capacity so that I can import from my new camera in the same efficient way? I would prefer to do this without buying CS4.
    thank you -- ML

  • I can't open the RAW files from my new Nikon D4s camera in photoshop? How do I download the latest software for RAW files?

I can't open the RAW files from my new Nikon D4s camera in photoshop? How do I download the latest software for RAW files? Cheers!

What version of Photoshop are you running?  You will need at CS5, CS6, CC or CC2014.  Each version needs a different ACR-plug-in to open files from that camera.
If you are on CS4 or earlier, you'll need to upgrade—or, in the alternative; look for, download, instal, launch and run the free, stand-alone DNG Converter 8.6 on each file of raw NEF files to convert them to raw DNGs first so you can open them in your version of Photoshop and ACR plug-in higher than 2.4.
