[CS5.5] Recovering a "corrupted" link

Hi,
I recently opened a document, and observed this in my Links panel :
In my document, I have three picture frames. Two of them are "corrupted" : in the link panel, there is no little preview at the left of the link name (the second and the third in my screenshot). The first one is well-formed and behaves correctly.
The problem is when I drop a new picture in the frames with corrupted links :
Here, I have dropped a new picture in the frame associated with the link "109325315.lay". The picture in the frame is left unchanged (is there a problem with low def preview ?), and the old link is preserved. When I click on that frame, the old link and the new link are highlighted in the Links panel.
I tried, via the SDK, various ideas :
* delete the link before the drop (ILinkFacade::DeleteLinks)
* delete the resource before the drop (ILinkFacade::DeleteResources)
* Relink the link during the drop (ILinkFacade::RelinkLink)
* Reinit the resource during the drop (ILinkFacade::ReinitResource)
* Reattach the link during the drop (ILinkFacade->AttachLink)
* Update the link after reinit the resource or after relink the link (ILinkFacade::UpdateLink)
It seems the resource is valid, because the contained URI is correct.
In all these cases, I can't get the situation back to a normal one. It looks like there is someting wrong in the link or in the resource, but I can't see what.
Has anyone an idea of what I could investigate further to get more informations and help me in my debug ?

Edit : What is responsible for mapping between source object (here the picture frame) and the link ? I can't see any reference in the lin or in the resource to the source object. Maybe this mapping is broken ?

Try using a Forum search or a Google search - 'Using Adobe Dynamic Link with After Effects requires Adobe Production Premium' was quite common error. Deactivating and reactivating the Suite resolved the issue in most cases.

Corrupt movies like yours can be recovered. It's quite hard, you have to rebuild the movie index.

[CS5] Shift the text in linked textframes

Hi,
I have a little problem with the comprehension of linked textframes.
Actually, i've a little program that fill a template in InDesign CS5.
I've fours linked textframes, and when i fill the first textframe, i just want to the next linked textframes was shifted automaticly for let place for text.
Can you please tell me how to achieve that ?

I'm sorry, i don't explaind my situation very well.
With InDesign, i have a program that interop with and populate some textframes on a template.
I want to fill a textframe, and if the textframe have an overflow with the text, i want the textframe resize automaticly and shift the next textframe :
Actually, when a textframe is overflows with text (We can see it on the picture with the little red square on the first bloc of textframes), the textframe is not resized and the next textframe is not shifted to the bottom.
What i want is when the textframe is overflows with text, InDesign resize the textframe in height to fill all the text, and shift the next textframe to bottom of the first textframe.

Issues with transferring CS5 project with Adobe Dynamic Links to CS5.5

Hello all!
Has anybody encountered the issue with transferring CS5 projects with Adobe Dynamic Links to CS5.5?
When I try to do it the movie hangs on at some clips which are AE compositions...
The CS5 project works perfectly.
All AE CS5 compositions are transerred to AE CS5.5 compositions.
All 'old' Adobe Dynamic Links in Pr CS5.5 project are changed to 'new' ones (I mean, links to AE CS5 composition changed to links to AE CS5.5 compositions)...
Any help will be appreciated

Tried to play around. Realised that a solution should be somewhere around re-rendering, 'cos linked AE compositions were always displayed in yellow as if they were original footages - even I changed a composition within AE, just transitions, if they were, changed to red in Pr Pro sequence...
However, I was unable to re-render 'Entire Work Area' even after deleting all Render Files, just 'Effects in Work Area'...
Then I simply created a new sequence and copied and pasted all the clips from original sequence. Now I was allowed to 'Render Entire Work Area'.
Voilà!

How to recover my corrupted iPhone 4 backup?

It stopped sync with my Outlook so I can't recover my contacts, calendars, and notes, etc. using my Outlook files. Any one who can help? What is the best way to recover a corrupted file from a failing Hard Drive?

I have a 3TB WD internal drive that is starting to fail with Bad blocks. I noticed it when I had some write errors and so got a new disc as fast as possible to get the data off before it dies completely.
However, some files are failing to be copied with the Finder. What tools are best for trying to recover these mainly video files? I have Tech Tool Pro but its utility seems aimed at finding accidently deleted files. I seem to remember a utility from way back that would repeatedly try to read a back block and re constitute the file.

Choose and use only a single background process to monitor health of a drive, they really are not safe to use multiple tools. And SoftRAID does its scan and checking in background during idle time for weak sectors - they are not really black/white but more xx tries to read/write.
as I mentioned, and you fit the profile, DW is one trick pony and can be used when you need to mount or access files to recover and backup.
Yes, DW will create a new directory. It has an advanced deep scan to scavenge for files.
Sometimes you just need to use DW's Preview to see what the drive volume 'looks like" now and what it would be after a rebuild/create directory. but sometimes you just want Data Rescue 3. both are in the $95 range.
Too often large backups, like 10 drives, are not well categorized or 'where is what."
Clone of a drive means you can restore the volume... TM to keep versions. But I don't have the 200% faith in TM sets or backup.
Sometimes a RAID6 is the ideal method for a large viideo catalogue or collection. And some people or businesses keep duplicate RAID6 sets, to mirror each other.
I liken 3TB drive sometimes as putting too many or all the eggs in one basket.
also, to keep any drive to 40% free which may sound wasteful, unless you consider the data' value.
SoftRAID 4 could be useful to zero and test the drive. Or to to 'take over' the drive even. Then to build a mirror from it. MPG recommends using it even in non-array use for some of those very reasons.
choice now going forward: clone with Superduper / CCC / recovery with DR3 / and build the directory (or not) with DW 4.x.
With externals sometimes the weak link is the case and interface or drive enclosure, plus the bridge if any (SATA native and none is my preference). And controllers, which may be needed.
Instead of having to order a drive? always have spares and extras. Always have a clone and an extra that can be used to put into service. And order more.

CS5 table of contents broken links and missing bookmarks

I'm having an issue with the table of contents in a .pdf. I'm working on a 112 page document in InDesign CS5. After exporting the .pdf, I realized that the file would be far too large to upload to the website. I used "reduce file size" in Acrobat Pro to make it smaller and chose the option to make it compatible with Acrobat 5.0 and later. The table of contents worked fine, all bookmarks appeared and links worked but the file was still too big. I did the same thing again but for version 4.0 and later and now the file is an appropriate size but the table of contents doesn't include all of the bookmarks and certain links don't work. Any help is appreciated!

Don't go down to 4. Consider v5 a minimum. I prefer v7 as a minimum. v4 doesn't support smarty features. Generally, the higher the version number, the more clever it is at squeezing file size. But really, the single biggest factor in PDF file size is your choice of how many ppi the bitmap images are sampled down to. Did you try setting them down to 100 ppi, for example?

Hello i am hoping to find someone who can guide me in recovering a word document for me... I was working on it had my auto save set to every 4 mins and all
was well. closed ms word normally only to find the next time i open i get "a table in this document has been corrupted..."
Just to be clear i know all about word open and repair and recovering the last saved file etc. Those are not working. I get my file back but several graphics and
tables are missing/messed up.
I am hoping that someone has some insight into this (maybe some document repair software that works well) and can help me restore the document or at least open
it somehow with the original pics showing so that at least i know how to make changes to the new document.

If you're using Windows 7, the built-in shadow copy centre may have an older and uncorrupted version of your file.
Launch Explorer, right-click the folder that contained the document and select Properties.
If you see a Previous Versions tab then click that.
If all is well then you'll see a list of entries for the folder, going back days, or maybe weeks.
Double-click one with a date when you know the document was readable, and try opening this older version.
Save it with a new name, and then repeat the process with later folder entries until you reach the point where the file became corrupted.
If methods above didn’t work for you, you can use undelete tools like Any Data Recovery Pro (http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoveryprofessional.htm)
or Revuca (http://www.piriform.com/recuva/features) to help you find old Office temporary files. After that, rename the TMP extension to match the real document format, and then try opening it to see what you've recovered.

4s backs up ok, but when I try to recover get corruption error

When I try to recover my phone from a backup get corruption error everytime. Yet I can backup just fine with no errors. Then on that same backup I just created I try to restore it and get an error. I tried backing up another iphone, and tried recovering from that backup file and get the same error. Whats making all my backups get corrupted? I can sync just fine with no errors. But can't recover ever from any of my backups, not even one that I create right now.

"So you believe the phone is corrupted ...?" Well, not exactly. I believe you had been carrying around some corrupted data, possibly associated with a misbehaving app or some such thing.
"... I'm afraid that if all my backups are corrupted ...". Yes, this is not absolutely guaranteed to work. But I think there is a high likelihood it will do an orderly transition of only the good data from the backup to your device. No guarantee, but for what it's worth, if I were in your situation, I would try this.

Is it possible to repair or recover a corrupt imovie?

I am able to see the timeline in projects but unable to edit. This project actually corrupted the entire application and I needed to uninstall and reinstall imovie, however, the file/project remains corrupt. Any savvy ideas of how to recover the hours of editing?? thank you kindly.

Thanks again for your input.And now, as a follow-up, at a minimum you should make sure that all redo log groups have at least 3 members. Then, if you lose a single redo log file, all you have to do is shutdown the db and copy one of the good members (of the same group as the lost member) over the lost member.
And as an additional follow-up, if you value your data you will run in archivelog mode and take regular backups of the database and archivelogs. If you fail to do this you are saying that your data is not worth saving.

Hello I have a CS5 Master Collection with Dynamic Link problems

Hello Adobe,
I had no problems with CS5 Master Colection, but after 1 week Encore dont work, the problem is, Dynamic lInk is not wordking.
I deinstall all Adobe products and use the adobe creative suite cleaner tool and after that I make a register cleanup.
Then I Start up windows 7 Pro 64 Bit Agan and install de CS5 Suite, but after that the same problems with Dynamic link apear
I hope anyone have an solution!!

Indesign CS5 add attribute to _self link button?

I created a presentation in InDesign CS5 version 7.0 with video, images and a button that I exported to swf files. The link works, but the button not it open in the same window as the SWF plays.
So, how do I add the _self attribute to the button link?
I tried to open the file. fla professional flash but does not work ..I do not know the use of software

That would be nice little improvement to InDesign´s button tool, hopefully it will be implemented...=)
In the meantime you can do something with Flash Professional, but other way around what you have tried... instead of trying to de-compile SWF indesign has produced, you can actually create your buttons in Flash, instead of using indesign´s buttons panel. After you have created your button with _self parameter, you simply export it as SWF and File>Place it to indesign. Choose it and open Media panel and set it open on Page load and pick up the poster from current frame (or use any image as button appearance if you wish). That way you can create button that opens your link to same browser window.
And if you have little bit more time (and patience) you can use a little magic of javascript and add an element called modal window to html-wrapper file that holds your main SWF. Then you can create a button in Flash Professional and use externalInterfaceCall method to call the javascript that opens your links on the top of the page... very web 2.0...=)

Recovering from corrupted USB install

I recently tried to install the USB tools from the developer site. The installation failed when rebooting.
The end result is that my USB ports, including the internal keyboard and trackpad, no longer work.
How do you recover a Macbook Pro when you cannot type or use the mouse to restore from your Time Capsule? My laptop is effectively bricked....
Things tried....
cmd+s on startup, takes me to the correct prompt, so the keyboard was obviously working for a second, however now I am at the root prompt and I cannot type.
shift on startup, also works, however once the load is finished, the jkeyboard and mouse still do not work.
It is obvious that the input is being seen at the start of the process, however the USB config is being loaded and therefore corrupting this.
Any ideas how to solve this? As I have time capsule, I am happy to blow my drive away, however as I am on Lion, I do not have discs, plus I do not have enough control to boot from them anyway.......

I believe mende1's response is slightly incorrect. On older Mac computers that came with an internal DVD drive the only way to install Windows on those Mac's is from that internal DVD drive. Even if you connect an external DVD drive OS X and or the Mac computer Firmware will not allow the Win install DVD to boot from that external DVD drive. It must be done from the internal DVD drive. So if yours has failed then you would need to have it replaced before you can install Windows on your Mac.
I know this from personally trying to install Windows from an external DVD drive even when there is an internal DVD still in the system. My late 2011 MBP would not load the Win install from the external DVD drive but would from the internal DVD drive.
