CS5 in an Upgraded computer

I have an older Windows XP SP3 desktop which is getting cranky and I have not been able to fix it. I have PS CS5, CS4 and CS2 on it. All of them mis-behave after running for a while.  Restoring is not an option because XP no longer recognizes my restore disc. Anyway it's time for a new comp. I'm looking at an Acer AX3400G-U4802 desktop. It uses an AMD Athlon II X2 dual core 255 processor,  NVIDIA GeForce 9200 graphics, 4G SDRAM, 1T hard drive and Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.. This is a Walmart (gulp!!!) capture machine, but has gotten good reviews, mostly from gamers and TV watchers, and one non specific Photoshop user. Other reviews don't give Acer particularly high marks for customer service, but otherwise the hardware seems OK. It is sold at a very competitive price (about $400 for the tower and minor add-ons). My plan is to re-load CS5 in the 64 bit configuration and CS 4 in the 32 bit configuration. A little complicated but most of the filter software I use works only in 32 bit. Both CS5 and CS4 were purchased as upgrades from CS2, which I don't plan on loading. I know some posters have had problems with CS5 with some graphics cards (and possibly processors too?). Does anyone have any experience with what I plan to do or any suggestions? (Sorry..no MAC!!!!!!!). Thanks, Ed

I recently purchased a very powerful dual quad core Dell Precision T5400 workstation without having put out a lot of green...

No, but it may help the chances of a successful installation.

Just as an aside - I have been getting messages on here from Adobe Admin saying that CS5 cannot be reinstalled because everything is now in the cloud and that for $350 I can buy CS6 to install on my new computer.  What?  Am I getting spammed on Adobe's site here?
    Where did you see that?

I have Dreamweaver cs5.5 on a computer that is not working and in the shop. Can I download a trial dreamweavercs6 on my new laptop with the intention of upgrading when I get my desktop back?

You are welcome to utilize the trial for up to 30 days.   There is not a requirement that you need to purchase the software.
You may also want to post in the Dreamweaver forum to see if there will be any compatibility issues if you do decide to return to Dreamweaver CS5.5.  You can find the Dreamweaver forum at http://forums.adobe.com/community/dreamweaver.

  • Existing Adobe master Collection CS5 will not upgrade to CS6

I have an existing installation of Adobe Master Collection CS5. When I try to upgrade to CS6 it does not recognize the CS5 serial number it says it is not a qualifying product. What can I do about it?

The 3rd option in the buying guide table includes Master Collection CS5 as an upgrade path.
@tgms: if Master Collection CS5 is already installed on the computer where you're trying to install MC CS6, the CS6 installer should find CS5 automatically and not require you to enter your CS5 serial number.

  • Problem installing DW CS5.5 on new computer

I am trying to install DW CS5.5 on new computer -- old hard drive died. Years ago I upgraded to the CS5.5 from a Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 version. I no longer have the serial number of the original version, which I used to upgrade to CS5.5. In fact, when I did that there was a phone number to call, and I was given a special number to put in the serial number slot and it worked for the upgrade. So now I am trying to install from the CD I used the last time and it is asking me for the original DW8 version, which I no longer have. Any suggestions on how I should proceed? I would love to talk to Dreamweaver support by phone, but cannot find a number, nor can I find a live chat option anywhere.
    Thank you,

Re installing Photoshop CS4 on an upgraded computer and it will not accept the serial number. Unable to deactivate Photoshop before upgrading computer due to hardware failure. Note that Adobe Photoshop CS4 New Install Bundle package consists of the new Photoshop CS4 Upgrade bundled together with the qualifying product, in this case an Adobe Photoshop CS2 License. I have tried both the CS2 and CS4 Serial numbers and both have not worked.
