CS6 - CS8.1

I just downloaded the trial version of InDesign CS6.  But I can't open files saved with CS8.1 ... what should I do now?

As Peter said, you would want to download the trial for InDesign CC 2014. Or get the person(s) who created them in CC 2014 to save as IDML so you can open them in InDesign CS6.

  • IDD CS6 not compatible with IDD CS8

I have a CS6 file (created and last saved by IDD CS6), but my InDesign has been updated to CS8, and when I try to open the CS6 file, I'm told it was last saved as CS9--which I don't have yet--and it can't be opened. How could the file have converted to a version of ID that I do not have? The properties information for the file specifies that it is CS6.

That's highly unlikely since no one but me uses this computer and uses InDesign so it is a mystery. When I go to Adobe Update (cloud) it tells me my ID is up-to-date, but it remains CC(version 8). What do I need to do to update it to version 9?
One more time.. CC is version 9. If you see a CC icon it's version 9. CS6 is version 8. You can have both installed, and both will show up in the Creative Cloud Desktop Application (and may show as up to date, if they are). If you have both, then CC would be the default application version that would open files you double-click, so it's entirely possible you converted a file unintentionally.

There is no CS8. It's all Creative Cloud and you need to join.

It is more work than using a script (was linked to in post #4 in the other thread).
We may have to ask Carlos to make a new script that works in CS6 (and in CS7 and CS8 and so on).
    Carlos, what say you?

  • DW CS6 and jQuery Mobile 1.2.0 - does not copy icons folder

Using the trial version of DW CS6
Attempting to create a JQuery Mobile Web site using DW and JQM 1.2.0
This is what I have done.
    1. Created a new folder in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\configuration\Third Party Source Code\jquery-mobile2
    and copied the following files:
    jquery-1.8.2.js
    jquery.mobile-1.2.0.js
    jquery.mobile.structure-1.2.0.css
    jquery.mobile.theme-1.2.0.css
\images - all files copied from the JQuery Mobile download for v1.2.0
    2. Edited the following files in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\configuration\BuiltIn\Mobile Starters:
    jQueryMobileLocalMultiPage.htm
    jQueryMobileLocalSplitMultiPage.htm
and pointed them to the new jquery-mobile2 folder by changing each path from
    ../../Third Party Source Code/jquery-mobile/
    to
    ../../Third Party Source Code/jquery-mobile2/
    3. In DW, File New and selected the "Page from Sample > Mobile Starters > jQuery Mobile with Theme(local) and DW created a file with paths pointing to the local copies of jquery-mobile2 folder.
    4. File > Save As and point to a folder and hit save and DW opens a dialog box asking me if I want to copy the 2 CSS and 2 JS files mentioned above.
So I hit "Copy" and it saves the HTML file and also copies the 2 CSS and 2 JS files. But when I open the HTML file created, in my browser, there are no images displayed. I checked the folder and although DW has copied the other files it has NOT copied the images folder. I have to manually copy the folder across and only then will the images display corrctly in the page.
This appears to be a bug in DW CS8 and its handling of the JQMobile template.
Is there a proper solution other than remembering to manually copy the images folder or can this be noted as a bug and corrected as I want to use the latest version of JQMobile.

    Fixed it myself. I realized that I needed to leave <link href="jquery-mobile/jquery.mobile.theme-1.0.min.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/> in index.html and to add a new line <link href="jquery-mobile/y_theme.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>

  • So... Photoshop CS6 is that revolutionary?

    Hi folks.
I'm a user of Photoshop since the 5.5 version and I do any kind of retouching and photompontages, but I've specialized myself in high-end beauty retouching. I work with thousand of layers, so I'm well equiped with enough RAM and BIG TIFF Files, at 16 bit per channel.
I find this new version of Photoshop quite good, however, this version should been done this way when CS4 was released. I think most people knows about the GPU scandal when the CS4 came out. So now, Photoshop CS6 uses the GPU to compute many tasks and the CPU much more smoothly than the other versions. Finally, Photoshop is using most of the hardware from computers and not just a very small percent, if did it in the older versions. I can see that finally, PSCS6 uses more than 1 or 2 CPU cores for most of it functions, and a part of the VRAM and GPU as well.
All the tools in the image/adjustment panel runs VERY smooth in real time when moving the sliders, without ANY delay. That's because PSCS6 finally is using the GPU, as promised with the CS4 version . Also, filters like the Liquify Filter and the Blur/Lens Blur filter, which only used one CPU core, finally use more cores/GPU. Not exactly 8 cores, as my Mac have, but quite almost. Now the Blur/Lens Filter is useful, otherwise, it was totally useless due the heavy processing for just one core.
I have been applying many heavy filters/adjustments to 21mp TIFF files of 16 bpc in order to check how good and responsive is the real time adjustments in Photoshop and the work perfect except for the Shadows & Highlights control. Even in smaller images has some kind of delay and that should be fixed. As well, some of the filters, like the Gaussian Blur, are not in realtime, as we EXPECT
Also, few of the Adjustment Layers, such as the Solid Color, Gradient, Pattern and Gradient Map; don't work in Real Time. So again, you have to go guessing how the image will look if you're applying some of those useful tools.
For the other hand, and from my experience in the field of high-end beauty, we use a lot the D&B technique to improve the overall light of the picture and the smoothness of the skin. And this is done pixel by pixel, or, at pixel level (3200% of zoom, that means, the maximum allowed by Photoshop). This means that we have to zoom in and out several times from 3200% to 100% (and to what resolution fit on your screen) in order to corroborate that our shading/pixel by pixel work is going good because, it happens that working at pixel level you miss how the whole image looks and that leads from fake looking to bad shading.
There are 2 ways to not to zoom in and out all the time:
    1. Making the navigator as big as needed, so you can compare what you do at pixel level on the image with how the whole image looks in the navigator.
    2. Creating a new window for the same image (Window/Arrange/New Window For [...]).
Unfortunately, none of these 2 ways work in real time. So you don't have ANY FEEDBACK, after you release the mouse/digital pen, making those 2 ways, completely useless and nosense.
I have wrote an e-mail to the Adobe Labs with many improvements in there that have been ignored, except for the Liquify, the Lens Blur and the real time in the adjustments layers.
One of the new tools I suggested in that e-mail, was allowing brushes acting like loupes. So when you D&B, you keep the image at, let say, 100% of zoom while the area where you're working on, is magnified to X%. This would be really useful if you have to work in detail. This is not just a personal point of view, but a professional one.
So, overall... PSCS6 is a very good mirage of what it should be, but nothing out of the box, really. How can it be called a "new version" when it comes to just performance improvements... This should be a CS5 update, nothing more .
I hope the Adobe Team get serious with this and stop bragging and scamming neophytes with just... improvements...
    س

PECourtejoie, no exactly because it wasn't in my "want" list, as you say (you're the second who says that), but because these tools already came with CS5. It's because of the repetition of tools I'm complaining, not for anything else. Please, re-read what I have written:
"I'm not judging the usefulness of these new tools, nor the improvements to the whole program. I think I was clear from the beginning of this post, as the title says, that CS6 isn't any revolutionary, but mostly, a rearrangement of the parts, which also involves the better performance of the whole program.
Most of the "new features" from CS5 were also in CS4 (or they've been improved/optimized)... I would accept the "cars analogy" if we were comparing Photoshop 1 with CS6, but it seems we have quite different views about what's something new and what's something apparently new".
Thanks for the link for suggestions, I already posted there long time ago.
    Noel Carboni:
I test the beta while working on my own photographs and on clients photographs.
    1. So do I, Noel, but that's because the User Interface hasn't changed so much and not because of new tools (that you can chose to use or not).
    2. I do as well. I process around 1000 images per month in my work, and speeding up the workfow is my main priority.
    3. Yes, I have noticed the auto-save recovery the first time Photoshop CS6 crashed, which was yesterday.
The main point is that you should discern how relevant are the changes, not if you feel nice with Photoshop CS6, or if you're a fan of Adobe. If we're doing an analisys about something, we have to be logical.

I agree with you on that one, but the content aware does a very nice job in certain things. Of course, a high-end editing requires more manual job than just automated stuff, but it's a nice addtion for low-end editing or simplier things. For example, I do landscape photography and weddings, and for removing electricity poles from a landscape, or probably, a bush that ruined the composition, or maybe you need a rock a bit more to the left; the content aware comes pretty handy for that. It's something that you can do manually, not doubts about that because I use to do it that way when content aware doesn't match the textures and lines very well, but for simpler things (like patterned/random stuff backgrounds) it works very nice, also for removing hotspots in a cloudy sky works realy good. The same the content aware scaling if you want to change the aspect ratio of the image from let say, 3:2 to 16:9 without cropping down the image (or distorting its prpportions), you can achieve flawless results. However, these tools where already done in CS4 with, of course, much less performance.

I would also love that feature become real time because, for every type of detailed work, you need to have feedback about how looks the image in its full extent while working in the details. I have emailed few ideas to Adobe long time ago, but just a couple of times because they have their own criteria of what should be done for the next versions, even if this idea is great for detailed work, I think it's not very well known by most users, so they just don't ask for it.
I wonder, for example, how a filter such as Render/Lens Flare still working the same than in Photoshop 5.5 (not CS). It's not a filter I use, in fact, I don't use most of the filters, but there are many filters that have not been updated at all. I think we would agree that's just a marketing strategy. Probably, in PSCS8 we will see that the render/Lens Flare will work on a transparent layer instead of having to create a 50% gray layer set to overlay in order to avoid placing the lens flare on a layer with actived pixels and I will came here saying that CS8 wasn't any revolutionary I hope not, honestly.
Of course, if we compare CS3 with CS6 we can see stunning changes, but from an objective point of view, from CS4 to CS6 there are not new things, mostly improvements. It's a fact that everybody can probe thorugh an objective analisys. Which is the point of this topic.

  • Is CC 2014 equivalent to CS6 extended

i'm considering purchasing CC2014 but does it reside permanently on my hard drive so i can use it when i'm offline? also is it the same as CS6 extended my current version whose preferences are glitching out...

If you have "glitching preferences" problems you need to fix those before buying new software, since your problem MAY be a symptom of other problems
CS6 is 2+ years old and is no longer being updated
CC is "generally" CS7 and CC 2014 is "generally" CS8

latest version of creative cloud will not open indesign files i get "saved with a newer version of Adobe indesign (CS8.0)"

You've got the wrong version of InDesign to open the file, it's that simple.
InDesign Cs6 is available on Creative Cloud, and if that's up to date it won't open InDesign CC or InDesign CC 2014 files.
You'll need to download InDesign CC2014 from the Creative Cloud.

  • My Creative Cloud won't open a CS8 Document?

My boss and I both have the same Creative Cloud and my boss has been working on a document in CC InDesign that I need to also work on and I can't open it. It says that it was saved in CS8? I had her try saving it down to CS6 but it still said the same thing? Why would it do this and how can I fix it?

So, every once in a while, a version-related error message from InDesign is correct. I'd be willing to bet you the beverage of your choice in the city of your choice (loser pays airfare ) that your boss clicked on the "InDesign CC 2014 Update" which is not in fact just a dot-version update, but a whole new application. If Adobe had stuck with the CS-designators, it would have been CS8, just as your install of CC would have been CS7.
I've been sending out links to Sandee Cohen's article over at InDesignSecrets on the regular for the last few days. Caveat clickor, I guess.

  • Is it better to upgrade to CS6 or just buy DW6

There is little difference in price between the CS6 suite and a stand alone DW6, both costing just under £400 in the UK (that would be about $700). The suite comes with a big overhead of additional programs that to me (other than Fireworks) are quite honestly not worth the learning curve.  The cost of creative cloud is quite frankly out of reach to the independent webmaster who only writes not for profit sites, and has to pay for his own software. If Adobe were to supply a creative cloud at say £60 a year and only give access to DW and Fireworks, I would probably take up the offer. That's the background.
What do other independent web writers think is the most economic solution, and which way have they chosen to go?

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. Broadband down again!
    Quote John Waller
    Perpetual license = £358 x 3 (assuming CS6,7,8) = £1,074 (all payments in full, upfront).
    Cloud = £328 + £562 + £562 = £1,452 (all monthly payments)
    >>>>>>>>>>
I make that three years, not 5.
    5 years would be 328 + 562 +562 + 562 + 526 = £2540 - which is a lot different to £1452.
If I upgrade to CS6 before January 1st  and the to CS7 and CS8, based on current prices, that would amount to £328 * 3 or £984, which is lots cheaper than what you are stating John.
Of course the price will probably rise, which would  affect your maths as well as mine and as you state, they probably will not provide upgrades in DVD format after 2012.
Currently it is not possible to buy an upgrade direct from the UK Adobe website unless you buy the cloud edition.
The discounted price seems to have been withdrawn, so that adds another £234 to the costs, making the cloud price for 5 years a magnificent £2774!
The cloud thing has everyone looking at regular upgrades and not at the cost. Cloud space costs not a lot but has one or two major problems. If you have an unreliable web service like I have, it can be out of action for days on end, -  a whole month once. It would cost me another £70 a year to obtain an unlimited download allowance which in my area is also not worth the money.
In addition, while its probably a safe storage system, its not the same as having it on your computer at your house. Similarly, if your subscription via PayPal has a technical hiccup, like one of mine did last month, your whole web production can go down the drain.
If you are on the cloud do you have to download Dreamweaver each time that you want to use it? Can you use it if you are not on line?
Most of my work takes place in the absence of a good broadband signal.
I will hedge my bets and buy an upgrade disk version of the suite and see what happens when 7 comes out.
Horses for courses - If I was charging £50 an hour for programming like I used to do when I was in the business, there would not be a problem. I just write for charity, and this change is going to stop me doing so - as it will lots of other people.
Microsoft has a charitable arm that supplies software at a great discount - why not Adobe?

  • Opening CS6 cloud projects with CS7,8,9 etc.

So you opt for the Creative Cloud Membership subscription option.
In two or four years you want to open a Permiere Pro CS6 project and change it.  If you didn't have only the cloud option, but had the perpetual license, you could just open it with the version it was created with.  But what if CS8 is now the current version?  You are still on the cloud option and don't have CS6.  Will you be able to open the project?

    Wil Renczes wrote:
We're always backwards compatible - the cloud is irrelevant here, it doesn't matter where the project is stored.  When we encounter an old project file, you'll be prompted to convert the project to a new CS7/8/9 version, just as you get now when attempting to open pre-CS6 projects.
    Cheers
    I wasn't aware of that.

  • What is InDesign CS8.0?

I'm confused. I am trying to open an InDesign file sent from an external company. I have CS6 installed. When I try and open the file I get the following error message. What is CS8.0??? I thought the versions went from CS6 straight to CC???

Ok, this means the file was last saved with InDesign CC2014 (which is reported as CS 8.0).  It may have been started in CS6, but someone edited it in CC2014.
CC2014 is two versions newer than CS6. CS6 was released in 2011.
If you are a CC subscriber you can have both CS6 and CC2014 at the same time.

During the first 30 days you'd be entitled to your money back, but it's been a heck of a lot longer since Adobe demanded or accepted any mnoney for "CS6 Design Standard".  If you just recently acquired that obsolete suite, it was certainly not through a legal purchase from the Adobe store.
