CSA - Ignoring modules loading after system startup

I'm currently running CSA 5.2 r238 with all systems in Test Mode. I keep seeing events for certain modules loading after startup, such as pdcrypt2.sys in a Citrix environment. I know these events are normal and don't care to have those events logged any more.
The events are being generated by Rule 50, a Kernel Protection rule with a monitor action in System Hardening Module [V5.2 r238]. I've copied this rule to a custom rule module and set it to priority allow and did not check the Log option.
I created a file set for pdcrypt2.sys as follows:
Directories Matching: **\Program Files\Citrix\system32\drivers but not <none>
Files matching: pdcrypt2.sys but not <none>
I'm still seeing events generated by rule 50. I know my rule is enforced by looking at an affected host and my rule appears to process beore Rule 50. Why am I still seeing events generated by rule 50?

Tom,
I'm just baffled. I changed my file set, AAA - Citrix pdcrypt2.sys, to look like yours does.
Directories matching: but not:
Files matching: but not: pdcrypt2.sys
The change history for rule 50, which I based my rule off of, is blank.
The rule basically reads likes this:
Priority Allow
Take Precedence
Modules load after system startup is checked
File set contains: $AAA - Citrix pdcrypt2.sys
Based on my understanding of the rules and the previous posts in this thread it would seem that logging for these events should be suppressed, but that is obviously not the case. Does your modified file set exist in rule 50 (or the corresponding rule in another version) or did you clone rule 50 to create your suppression filter rule?

  • Secound eithernet port fails to sending DHCP after system startup.

I am trying to up grade a g4 xserve from 10.3.9 to 10.4. Sotfware installs ok but shortly after start up the system light starts flashing.
I have setup DHCP service on eithernet port en1 which send ip address to clients on startup but quits when system light starts flashing and clients can no longer retive ip address. I have tried to reinstall software but keep getting the same responce from en1 port and system light. Would like to know if this is a problem with my pci card ( pci106,B ) or with 10.4 or maybe the firmware?
The xserve worked fine under 10.3 with no problems with the en1 port or dhcp service.
    John

It turned out that the firewall was still blocking dhcp on en1, not shure why system identifier light is blinking.

  • Mozilla apps won't load after System Restore from TM

Alas, a hard disk failure which Apple kindly replaced even though It happened 25 days out of 3-year AppleCare. Thanks!
New hard disk installed, proceeded to do System restore from TimeMachine and everything went perfectly (as far as I can tell) EXCEPT Firefox and Thunderbird. All the other apps are loading and seem to be working as I would expect (I guess I won't know for sure until I've worked for a few days) but Firefox will not load - the icon bounces in the dock for a couple of seconds and then disappears. Out of curiosity, I tired to load Thunderbird (which I seldom use) and not even the icon appears.
    I am using OS-X 10.5.7 with Firefox 3.0.11
I have tried deleting the apps and the associated files in Library?Application Support and doing a re-install from a fresh download - same result. I tired restoring the apps from TimeMachine using a restore date one day before the HardDisk failure. Same result. I have used MacTuneUp to repair permission. Same result.
Any ideas why this is happening? I am most surprised that a fresh install didn't help. And it's interesting that two Mozilla apps are affected. I can live without Thunderbird but Firefox is important as there are some websites that still refuse to open with Safari.

    [email protected] wrote:
OK - that was a good suggestion. Firefox and Thunderbird both work when I log is as a guest. Now what should I be looking for on my main account that is blocking the apps from opening? Thanks for the help.
probably something in their preferences. the most radical thing would be to delete the whole folders /users/usernmae/library/application support/firefox and /users/username/library/thunderbird. or just move those folders to the desktop. then try starting firefox and thunderbird. however, that will wipe all user info in both apps.

  • IWork apps will not load after system reinstall

I am on the road with my MacBook Pro for the next six weeks and have just had to reinstall OS X. I have recovered my data and library files from an external backup and have managed to reinstate most of the software by copying it across from a (slightly older) backup. Where necessary I am updating the applications.
Needless to say I don't have my iWork installation disks with me and I am experiencing the same problem with all three. When I try to load the apps I get a rather unhelpful error saying that "Files iWork Needs are Missing" with "To restore the missing files, use the iWork Installer to reinstall iWork". Only wish I had the disks. I have a family pack so am reluctant to go out and buy another set of disks, even if I could get them here in my remote location.
I have copied across the application support files in the libraries but, clearly, I have missed something crucial. Does anyone have any idea of where I might find files on the backup disk other than in Application Support?

I'm fond of physical support but this year I decided to buy a keycode.
I thought that, if something fails, I would easily reinstall.
I was afraid of possible drawbacks with the pre-registrated DVD.
How may we solve the problem if the bought DVD become unreadble ?
I'm just wondering if some extras are delivered with the physical item.

Yep. It was my own fault. I had been using the b43 driver for my BCM4331 wifi card, and recently switched to broadcom-wl. However, I still was trying to load b43 in /etc/modules-load even though I had removed the driver and module from my system. Not sure why my system only started complaining in 3.18.5, but in any case removing the offending .conf file solved the problem. Thanks, graysky.

  • [SOLVED]3.18.5-1-ARCH + system-modules-load.service on Macbook Pro 9,2

After upgrading from 3.18.4-1-ARCH to 3.18.5-1-ARCH this weekend, my systemd service system-modules-load fails during bootup. I checked out
    # systemctl status system-modules-load
and found nothing but a warning that my journal has been rotated and the log output is incomplete. I have not hunted down the log or rooted through dmesg as of yet - I need my system functional while working during the week, so I downgraded my kernel back to 3.18.4 for now (under which system-modules-load loads fine). I will reinstall 3.18.5 next weekend and see if I can locate the problem - this post is just a feeler to see if anyone else is encountering this problem with the latest kernel.

  • Module 'asus-nb-wmi' stopped being auto-loaded after kernel update

Well, the module 'asus-nb-wmi' which takes care of some FN keys and keyboard backlight stopped being auto-loaded after the latest kernel udpate (3.9.3), so I had to add it to /etc/modules-load.d/ to get it working. This has happened before, between kernel updates and I had to re-install arch to fix it, but now I found that manually adding the module is a nice solution, but I want it to be loaded automatically or at least know why does this happen. Kernel modules, such as this one, should be loaded automatically right?
    Best regards.

I think there is a valid question here;  Same thing happened to me.
Upon a default install of arch, the module was auto-loaded without the user touching any configuration files
at some point during kernel updates, the module is no longer auto-loaded
the user then has to find out what is happening and go add the module to the appropriate config file to force load on boot.
So the larger question is; without config files being taken into consideration, how does the kernel decide what modules to load?  f
I know it has something to do with the hardware that it detects, but am unaware if this is something within the RC or systemctl booting system, or if this is part of the kernel.
I'm going to dig around some more on the internet, as i'm sure the answer is out there somewhere.. but if someone that is on this forum happens to read and know the answer, it would be nice to know
    thanks

  • System boot occasionally hangs at module loading

Since I installed Arch, about 43% of the time that I have attempted to boot my computer the boot process hangs at module loading. I assumed that the problem may have been that I was autoloading my modules. I tried turning autoloading off and manually loading them instead but that did not help. Then (as a shot in the dark) I tried having autoloading on, with my modules still defined in rc.conf, but that only made things worse (understandably, I did not think that this would help, but I figured that it couldn't hurt to try).

I have the same problem on my thinkpad T500 after I upgrade the wireless card (intel wifi link 5300).
For a long time I didn't understand the why of this behavior, but some weeks ago I realise that the problem can solve it hard-locking the wireless card and unlocking after the step: "loading modules".
For more information this is the complete thread on thinkpad forum that I wrote when I try to solve this issue: http://lnv.lithium.com/t5/T400-T500-and … 870#M26238
I apologize if you do not understand what I mean, the problem is that I have some difficulties to express myself in English

  • [SOLVED] Modules not loaded after upgrade linux (3.9.5-1 - 3.11.6)

Hi. After upgrading the package linux from 3.9.5-1 to 3.11.6,
many modules such as wifi or psmouse are not loaded.
My PC is Asus Zenbook UX31E.
If I do by hand like
    # modprobe ath9k
    # modprobe psmouse
    wifi and psmouse are OK,
but I want to set all necessary modules auto loaded.
    * Output of lsmod of linux 3.9.5-1 was 87 rows
but lsmod of 3.11.6 (I attache below) is only 39 rows.
    * Both
    /etc/modprobe.d/
    /etc/modules-load.d/
are empty on 3.9.5-1 and 3.11.6.
    Please give me advice, thx.

    Hiya,
The error is because the app tried to import that driver but it was not found. So, you will need
to recheck your project setup, provide locations for imports, etc. I am not familar with Intermec Printer.
The code snippet does not show any information about the DLL import, check there too.
    Hope this helps. :)

  • "Error Loading Operating System" Message on startup. Need Help~~

    Hi Peoples,
I got the "Error Loading Operating System" message when restarting widows. Been pulling my hairs off the past few days looking for solutions, but with no dice. anyone have a solution??
I think the problem occurred when my computer got crashed, so I forced to turn off the computer buy hitting the power button, the next time I started the computer and it gives me a "Error Loading Operating system".
I have tried the recommendation from Microsoft by updated the bios. Didn't work.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326676
Other solutions that recommended from varied resources, recommanding to set the drive from LBA to Large. But I don't see that option in the Bios setup.. maybe because my HD's was setup as RAID 0?
and other recommended to use a startup disk boot into DOS and use the  fixboot/mbr to fix the mbr. But when I tried to boot with a startup disk I can't seems to find my C:\  (which is the RAID 0). How can can boot to the into the RAID?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Specs of my computer
    CPU: P4 3.0
    Mother Board: 875P Neo-LSR/
Graphic Card: Nvidia Quadro FX 1000
    Memory: 2 GB
HD: 2X 80 Seagate SATA Drive Configured as RAID 0

Hey Stu, Thanks for your reply. Yes, I think the bios is configured correctly and the Raid is configured as the way it use to be.
About the crashed, last time when I shutted down widow, using the Shut down button in the Start Menu, Window got got freezed and the power is still on, due to frustration I hit the Power button to turn off the computer, the next day I turn on the computer, and it gives me the error message.
    <-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am using Amibios version 3.31a,
    Harddrives I have the following:
2X80GB Seagate SATA figured as RAID 0 for C:
80GB Maxtor on Primary ID Master
80GB Western on Primary ID Slave
Samsung CDRW/DVD on Secondary IDE Master
NEC DVD RW ND on Secondary IDE Slave
Bios setting > Intergrated Peripherals > On-Chip IDE Configuration  I have the following setting:
On-Chip ATA  Operate Mode: Native Mode
    ATA Configuration: S-ATA Only
    S-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes
    P-ATA Channel Selection: Both
Combined Mode Option: P-ATA 1st Channel
    S-ATA Ports Definition: p0-1st./P1-2nd.
    Configure S-ATA as RAID: Yes
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
PS: Is there a way to boot into the C: (Raid 0 drive) Using Dos? or maybe I can check the files is still in C drive? If the files are there, means the drives are OK? and Maybe I can use the "Fixboot" the problem? Please advise, again thanks for your help.
    Thanks.

  • T61: "Error loading operating system" after reboot with Windows XP SR3

So here is my problem:  Occasionally, after reboot I get "Error loading operating system" right after the Lenovo screen (the one where you can press ThinkVantage button). After that the only thing I can do is shut down the computer and fix the windows boot (see bellow…). I'm running Windows XP SR3, clean install.
I've had my T61 for 6 months now and I've had this problem about 8 times so far. Obviously this makes my T61 unstable and is becoming a major problem (I like to shut down the computer before taking it anywhere, and I don't really use Hibernate).
Solving the boot is very easy and takes 3 minutes… But the Win XP CD is needed for the fix and I don't want to carry it around with me everywhere. And anyway this is annoying and makes my T61 crippled…
    To fix the problem:
1 Change AHCI -> Compatibility in BIOS.
2 Boot using the Windows XP CD.
3 Enter the Recovery Console (press R).
4 Use "fixboot" to write a new boot sector.
    5 Restart ("exit").
6 Change back to AHCI in Bios.
After that the computer works perfect until the next time… Things I have tried so far:
1 Installed latest Bios for T61.
2 Checked firmware for HD (WD Scorpio WD1600BEVS) and it's the latest.
3 Installed all windows updates for Windows XP.
4 Installed all latest drivers for T61 (specifically checked the Intel Matrix Storage Driver and it's the latest).
5 Checked computer for Viruses, malware, etc. with a few scanners. It's clean.
6 Updated some of the programs that I thought might be causing problems: Avira , PerfectDisk 2008, TrueImage Home…
7 Checked HD with WD Diagnostics tools
I am out of ideas. Something is corrupting the boot sector occasionally when I shut down the system. But I can't find why or under  what circumstances it happens… The only thing I didn't try was a completely new clean system install, a thing which I REALLY don't want to do. Except for this problem the system is great, very stable and I'm very happy with it.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I run the windows version of TestDisk. Is there any specific reason for me to make a Live CD? It seems to work just fine in windows. Anyway, I run all the analysis tests with it. It did NOT find any problems. Is there some specific test I should run?
Some further testing has shown me that the problem happens sometime during using windows and not upon restarting... When it does happen I can no longer use chkdsk - it gives the following error message:
"The type of the filesystem is RAW.
CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives."
    Some other things I tried:
    - I've pretty much ruled out physical HD problems (I checked the HD with PC Doctor, WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic Tool and chkdsk - no problems). And the HD shows no symptoms of failure (no noises or any other problems).
    - Ruled out boot-sector Viruses (cheked the computer with 4 different antiviruses - Avira,AVG, Kaspersky and NOD32).
    - Manually checked the boot.ini file - no problems.
    - I have also found while googling that the problem might have to do with a registry entry concerning HDs bigger then 137gb. I double checked that entry and it's fine.
    - Tried both fixmbr and fixboot, alone and together - windows boots, but the problem comes back again after a few hours/days...
    Things I'm trying now:
    - Reinstalled the Intel Matrix Storage Drivers (before I just checked that they are the latest).
    - Disabled the Active Protection System (I am shooting in the dark...).
I am getting pretty desperate here.

  • Nvidia module in X fails to load after Patch 118844-28

I'm new to Solaris so please bear with me.
I just received a shipment of Ultra 20 workstations and while setting up one of them, I used the Update manager to install all the patches. After installing the kernel update, X fails to run since the Nvidia module doesn't load, which makes sense since its a new kernel(Is this wrong, I'm used to Linux).
So I download the latest nvidia module from Nvidia.com and the installer runs with no problem. I reboot and still no go.
I've looked around and found something about using the update_drv command, and I tried that with no luck. Used reboot -- -r to reconfigure everything and still nothing. There is nothing that stands out from dmesg, so I'm at my wits end.
    Any ideas?

    After installing
the kernel update, X fails to run since the Nvidia
module doesn't load, which makes sense since its a
new kernel(Is this wrong, I'm used to Linux).I don't know why X or the Nvidia module fails after the kernel
    upgrade...
But for Solaris is does not make sense that drivers start to fail
when the kernel is patched. This assumes the driver is using
documented kernel interfaces only - in this case a kernel update
    should not cause driver failures.

  • 0CO_OM_CCA_9 - Delta load - after  Function Module Enhancement

    Hi All,
We are facing issue in 0CO_OM_CCA_9 data source delta load after function module enhancement.
why we went for enhancement -
Vendor (LIFNR)field is getting populated only for Invoice and not for GR entries.
    To Solve the issue -
we written an user exit in CMOD, that will fetch the Vendor field(LIFNR) from the table EKKO using the PO Document Number (EBELN) as key.
    Issue -
We loaded the data with full load and found after the enhacement data fetched for vendor field.
But after doing the init and started loading the delta we found data is not fetched for vendor field alone.Hence for the delta load we face the same issue of no entries for vendor field.
Can anyone suggest the reason, y delta is not fetching the vendor entries.
I have checked in RSA3, only FULL update option is allowed to check and other update mode is not allowed(greyed).
    Thanks in Advance
    Ramesh

    Hi Ramesh,
What you can do to debug the extraction is adding an infinite loop in the enhacement (before your code) like this:
    data: a.
    a  = 1.
    while a = 1.
    endwhile.
    **your code**
Then, from BW run the extraction, and go to ERP, transaction SM50, look for the extraction process, select it, and go to Process/Session -> Program Debugging. A new window with the debugger will be opened, and you'll be in the while. Change the valiue of a, and start debugging.
Perhaps the problem is that you are trying to modify a value that is not an enhacement, and it doesn't takes your modification when you do a delta.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Diego
