CSS layout problems in Explorer (fine in Firefox and Safari)

Firstly apologies to the mods, I had mistakenly posted this
in the dynamic section also...
My problem - I am working on a CSS site (my first!) here

It appears fine in Firefox (PC and Mac) and Safari (mac) but
when I view it in Explorer for Mac (5.2.3) I get a over long page
and I get no auto margin on the left.
Another small curiosity - I have noticed that my background
image on my div id "header" seems to start off again on the right.
Again, Explorer 5.2 for mac only...
My html and css both validate.
Anybody know why this is happening?

Do you mean in the browser? I just tried it in Firefox and
after two increases the layout/style of the page kind of 'falls
apart' - how would this be rectified?

How can I get layers that are inside tables that are
inside another layer to appear properly in Internet Explorer. It

causing the problems contain a table with an image and a caption,
so 2 cells. Then the layers are within a larger table that is
within a layer. I don't use IE (cause it is the bain of my
existence) but for a client they may want it to look good on all
browsers, even if it is IE 6 on a PC, maybe the browser version is
too old and I shouldn't worry about it? I know IE is not compliant
with web standards so is this the problem or is there a way to fix
the problem so it will look good in all the browers? The URL is

That is too broadly stated to be credible. Certainly IE6 has
its problems
but is highly compliant with most web standards. To be an
effective
designer/developer one must have a working knowledge of IE's
deficiencies,
not just write it off as non-compliant. After all, it is
still used by some
70% or web users (based on W3C Schools data.)

Text disappears in Explorer, great in Firefox and Safari

I have an index page for a client that I built in Dreamweaver starting with a basic template. After making all my changes and loading on a server it is displaying great in Firefox and Safari on my Mac but the 3 columns of text are not visable in Explorer on my PC. I have run an html checker and compared codes, but cannot see what the problem is. There are 3 divs in the "container". They are sidebar1 , sidebar2 and maincontent. I think you need to delete the first line. I reckon that might make IE have a hissy fit!

PDF addresses not longer load and display PDF in Firefox and solutions suggest to other users with problem DON'T WORK (work fine in Chrome and Safari)

This is an ongoing problem with other users. When putting a PDF in address window of Firefox and clicking go to address FIREFOX WILL NOT LOAD AND DISPLAY THE PDF. This problem has come up in questions from other users on your site. NONE OF THE SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS WORK! (trying either the Firefox PDF viewer or the Acrobat viewer as default viewer)
I am using Firefox 23.0.1 (as some of the other users with the same problem). This was not a problem in the past with Firefox. Safari and Chrome continue load and display PDFs just fine from their addresses. This is a big problem as I now have to inform people who want to view my PDFs NOT TO USE FIREFOX BUT TO USE SAFARI OR CHROME.

It appears that a link to a PDF on an internet page will not download in Firefox either!

and tried to download the PDF link at the bottom of the page (Download: PDF 11.3 MB) It didn't work! Nothing happens. Tried it in Safari and it worked flawlessly.
I have a PDF file of my work in the public_html folder on my URL. I give the address generated by that file to people who want to view my work---this works perfectly in Safari and Chrome. As to your other question, can't bookmark it if I can't get to it in Firefox.

Spry menu works in Firefox and Safari, but not Internet Explorer

I designed my school website in CS4 and CS5. The left spry menu bar appears correctly in Firefox and Safari, but in Internet Explorer the gray background and buttons do not appear. You can only see the text and when you scroll over the text, it disappears even though when you click on it, the link does appear. The website is http://ml.chinookschools.org. I created the site on a mac and I am hosting it on a mac mini server on my network at school. I am a beginner with Dreamweaver and I'm not sure if someone can help me with this, but I would sure be appreciative for any help offered. Here is the source code for the main template page:

You are not using the latest Spry files
The latest version of the Adobe Spry Framework is 1.6.1, this is the same version that ships with Dreamweaver CS4. If you use Dreamweaver CS3 (uses Spry 1.4), its wise to upgrade your files to the latest version. This can easily be done using the Spry Updater that can be found here.
Then, if you have a look near the bottom of SpryMenuBarVertical.css you will see that the white background colour has been specified for IE as in
@media screen, projection
    ul.MenuBarVertical li.MenuBarItemIE
    display: inline;
    f\loat: left;
    background: #FFF;
Change the value to #CCC and it will have fixed that part of the problem.
When you upgrade to the later version of Spry, make sure to keep a copy of the CSS file as a reference to modifying the new CSS file.

Horizontal Menu problem in Firefox and Safari

I have created a Spry Widget horizontal menu bar in my
template .dwt. This menubar worked fine at first in IE7, Firefox3,
and Safari 3 and 4, but now that all pages are in place, it
displays incorrectly in Firefox and Safari. Specifically, for each
dropdown menu, only the final item appears. While creating the
pages, I did not make any changes to the template, so I am not sure
what caused this error.

Problems with iWeb displays on Firefox and IE

My iWeb pages look fine on Safari but not on Firefox or IE - both those sites show graphics overlapping text, extra spaces between text, missing boxes etc. My site is theFOWL.org - it's a site for a non-profit library organization. It used to work fine on Firefox and IE but not now. Thanks for any help

Your site looks OK to me in Firefox. This browser does have a problem with image effects such as drop shadows and there are a few ways to overcome this...

The main thing with IE is to make sure that none of the text boxes and objects are touching or overlapping by doing a Command A on the iWeb page.

Could you share a link to the page?
Seeing it in context and in our browsers is much easier to debug.
If not, make sure to run the validator here The W3C Markup Validation Service and clear out any problems. HTML errors, especially structural ones, will cause all kinds of display problems in various browsers/versions/platforms.

After installing, boot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...

Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
Fixes a lot of problems, and besides, if your Mac ever gets to the point it won't Boot... this is a life saver!

Did you see a "Bookmark" tab in your Menu Bar? All of your IE Favorites should be there if you pull it down.
FYI, It's called Bookmarks in Firefox.

Unable to run flex files in Firefox and Safari

I created a flex program that loads an XML document. In short
what I did is as follows:

loader = new URLLoader(XMLURL);
The document loads up perfectly fine ONLY in Internet
Explorer, but it does not load up at all in Firefox and Safari.
I was told it could be some sandbox rules problems. So i
tried crossdomain.xml, but that didn't solve the problem either. I
believe the problem should be something else.
I always thought Flex/Flash is suppsoed tobe browser
independent. Any ideas?

Not being asked for credentials in SSRS 2008 R2 for Firefox and Safari

I have an instance of SSRS 2008 that is currently working on all browsers (the URL is something like reports.foo/reports).
I spun up a new instance of SSRS and placed it on the url report01.foo/reports. This new instance is connected to a different domain (I am spining up a Active Directory Domain and trying to build out our infrastructure, so the logins are different).
I am able to access the new URL (report01.foo/reports) from IE and Chrome. It is asking for the username/password and able to get on just fine.
However, when I try to go to the new URL (report01.foo/reports) using Safari and Firefox, it never asks for credentials and shows a blank page. This does not happen for the old URL (reports.foo/reports), only the new URL.
Any ideas?

Per my understanding that you have configured windows authentication and which by default will not prompt for credential. So I assumed you have changed the User Authentication setting in the security setting to pop up for credential, for example like below(IE),
If so, your issue about the pop up credetial not pop up in Firefox and Safari can be caused by the related security setting, If you give Anonymous User rights, you may got the blank page:

Adove TV Will Not Play Movies In Firefox and Safari

For those at Adobe developing Flash, I wanted to post and let you know that I cannot view any Adobe TV videos in Firefox and Safari. I AM able to view videos in Google Chrome. I was able to view them a few months ago without any problems. The web pages for Adobe TV load just fine, but the area where the movie plays is solid black, and there are no video controls (play, pause, volume, etc.).
SYSTEM INFORMATION:
Mac OS X 10.6.8
Adobe Flash Player 11.7
Adobe Air 3.7
Firefox 21.0
Safari 5.1.9

Why are you using such an old Firefox/3.5.3 version from 2009 (Gecko/20090824) as shown in the user agent and haven't updated Firefox for such a long time?

The Firefox 3.5.3 version that you currently run is no longer supported with security updates.
You should at least use the latest Firefox 3.6.x version if you do not want to switch to Firefox 4+ versions.

Your plugins list in the system details list shows the WMP plugin (np-mswmp), so that plugin should be working.

Difference between Firefox and Safari when viewing iWeb created content.

Greeting Mac fans,
I've noticed that my iWeb pages load 2-3 times faster when viewed in Firefox than Safari. I find this a little suprising.
Also, my hit counter shows when the page is displayed in Firefox, but not in Safari.
Any ideas?
All content was created using iWeb and is hosted at my dotmac account. I have a domain name and I'm also using "masked URL fowarding"

There are two things that I think are at play
here...
First, the difference in loading times between
FireFox and Safari.... I haven't noticed that huge of
a difference myself, but what I have noticed is that
FireFox is much faster at pulling up cached
material....or maybe figuring out whether to pull
from cache vs. anew. I've noticed that FireFox also
hangs on to cached material more tenaciously than
Safari, meaning that sometimes I have to go in and
empty FireFox's cache in order to see something
update...I have to do this much more often in FireFox
than Safari.
Second, about your counters. If you turn your
masking off from your domain forwarding, you .Mac
counters will be visible to all. Using masking will
make them invisible to certain browsers under certain
conditions.
James, I guess I should download and use Firefox, but remember feeling burned the last time I did. I downloaded it, and soon after, things went awry with my computer. I am hoping that the were unrelated events, since Leo Laporte, the KFI techie guru, also recommends using Firefox for various reasons. He says that it is very safe because, basically, it is "dumb" (his words). But he meant that it's lack of bells and whistles made it go very fast, and made it avoid all the problems of Internet Explorer.

Project Server 2010 SP2 - Use with IE11, Firefox and Safari

More groups in my company are being onboarded to start reporting time and managing projects out of Project Server /PWA 2010.  We found that one of the groups have MACs and use either Safari or Firefox. There are some members of that
same team who are using an HP machine but are using IE 11.
From what I am reading and what I am seeing it appears that with Firefox and Safari you cannot access Manage Timesheets or Project Center.  Has anyone found a work-around for this?
The work-around we are using for IE11 is to add Project Serrver to the Compatability View.  Does anyone know of a problem with this approach?

Look into using the 'IE tab' for Chrome/Firefox as a work-around. I had a similar scenario with Mac users and installed IE tab in their Chrome/Firefox browsers for them and worked pretty good for the most part. Hope this helps.
