CT2504 and Aironet 1142N configurations

Hi All,
I have bought 2504 LAN Controller and my old 1142 wants to configure to accept that Controller instead of old controller. These APs and controllers in far away site and before I go there I want to figure out how can I do followings. Your help much more appreciated, Because Lack of my knowledge and experience in wireless.
1.   How can I configure old 1142(Previously connected with another LAN Controller) to accept New 2504 Controller instead of old controller ?
2.  What are the concerns do I need to consider?
3.  Is there any configuration example which can be understand easier to a beginner?  or any guide to guide me without much hassel?
Thanking you in advance
Chamara

A unified access point or a LAP would only keep the management address of all the wlc it has discovered previously by joining them, or though mobility configuration on them (mobility members on them).
As far as configuration is concerned, each time an lap joins a new or for that matter the same wlc it has previously joined,
it pulls the configuration/revision to it as an event/state as defined for CAPWAP state machine.
Here is the CAPWAP state machine for your reference,

  • Setting up Aironet 1142n as repeater

    Hi,
I've just recently purchased the Aironet 1142n and am hoping to set it up as a repeater. I've followed the documentation here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.4_21a_JA1/configuration/guide/scg12421aJA1-chap19-wgb-standby.html#wpxref31658
    but am still having problems.
What I'm trying to achieve is:
I have an adsl router (TP-link W8960N) at the front of the house but the wireless signal does not reach all the way to the end of the house. I am trying to set up the aironet 1142n to act as a repeater and place it in the middle of the house and hopefully that will extend the wireless signal to the end of the house and remove the dead spots. I would like to do this without having ethernet cables running all over the place and have been trying to configure the aironet 1142n to no avail. Every time I set the aironet 1142n to "repeater" it automatically coverts back to "access point" under role of radio network.
I guess my main question first of all is, can I set the aironet 1142n as a wireless repeater? And if so, where am I going wrong in my configuration?
    I've just read that "
Repeater access points running Cisco IOS software cannot associate to parent access points that that do not run Cisco IOS software."
Does this mean the aironet 1142n set up as a repeater will not work if the original access point (in this case, the TP Link adsl wireless router) isn't a cisco brand?
    Thanks,
    Karen

Karen: Im not aware about any cisco IOS based device that will help.
I suggest that you post you question in small business -wireless section. If they know such a product they will help.
You can also look for TP repeater since your AP is TP already.

  • DHCP on Aironet 1142N

    Hi all,
I'm a novice at this so I do apologize...
Is it possible to have DHCP enabled on the Aironet 1142n that leases IP Addresses in a different subnet to what the Aironet has? I've basically got an Aironet 1142n with a static IP address (i.e. 10.0.0.1) and I would like all clients that connect to it to receive an IP in a different range (i.e. 192.168.1.xxx) and would also like the Aironet 1142n to act as the DHCP server. Is this possible?
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    -Alf

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 and Aironet 1250 + VSS issues

    Hi,
I  am new to the NCS implementations and configurations. I have one very  specific case with Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 and autonomnous APs  and several issues with Cisco VSS on 6500 switches.
So here is the version from Prime:

Well  the issue what we have now is that access point has been added but its  not recognized by the NCS prime. I have tried all three versions of SNMP  but I get the same result. The SNMP configuration is valid since I use  the same for my switching infrastructure. When I enter "debug snmp packets" and "terminal monitor" I can see the SNMP communication between Prime and Aironet 1250 which is standalone.
When  I switch to Lifecycle theme and go to Operate > Device Monitor  Center I see all devices I have added. The Aironet 1250 is reachable but  under collection status I get Managed with Warnings. When I hover over  with my mouse I get "None available".
I  have successfully added my switching infrastructure in total, which is  operating perfectly for Catalyst 2960/3650/3750/4500 series but for 6500  under VSS I have some warnings. The device is recognized by the system  which is excellent and all is operational. I get the following errors  under Collection Status:
    feature_sensor
    SNMP request timed out
    feature_powerSupplyFanStatus-6k
    SNMP request timed out
    IdentityCapability
    The device is unreachable.
    feature_flashdevice
    SNMP request timed out
    sam_ipsla_feature
    The device is unreachable.
What can be done to resolve these issues ? I have attached a screenshot of this particular issue. The affected access point is 172.16.165.241.

    Hi rajeeshp,
Currently I am not allowed to upgrade it because of internal procedures involved in upgrading a specific piece of software (obtaining permissions from various departments). Is it free to upgrade from 1.2 to 1.3 or there is a specific charge for that.

  • Cisco Aironet 1142N at elementary school

Hi. We're having a tough time at a couple of elementary schools that are using a number of Cisco products which we got through a deal with AT&T. I really hope you can give us some guidance. Here's our situation: We have an elementary school equipped with about eight Cisco Aironet 1142N access points. Signals go to 3 stacked switches (Cisco Catalyst 3750 PoE-48) and are managed via a Cisco wireless LAN controller (NME-AIR-WLC12-K9).
We are having significant bandwidth problems. If we get more than 12 laptops (we've got a "mobile Macintosh lab") simultaneously online, the network freezes. We can't even get more than 15 iTouches online simultaneously.
Here's the rest of the setup: our *elementary* school is connected via fiber (probably 10MB) to the *intermediary* school and then to the district office. The district office is connected to the Internet (county depart of Ed is officially the ISP; AT&T is the service provider).  The AT&T link may be 6MB.At the *intermediary* school the data traffic for the mobile Macs is    handled by an

The XServers are for Directory Services only (log in authentication for the MacBook Labs). There is one Open Directory Master at the intermediary school, and an Open Directory Replica at each site. A LightSpeed Total Traffic Control Server does content filtering for us. There are also about 5 Cisco (Windows-based) servers helping manage data at the intermediary school (VOIP and Wifi traffic only). The rest of the traffic (internal, wired ethernet) is handled by the Cisco switches and controllers; for external traffic - after the controllers it goes to the LightSpeed Traffic Control server then out the Cisco FireWall.
Sorry to dump all that on you, but candidly since we installed the Aironets in September we haven't really been able to effectively use the mobile Mac lab. Ideally we'd like to be able to run about 30 laptops simultaneously. They don't have to get video -- just google searches would be a start.
We should also note that at this elementary school, we have 4 wifi networks running different VLANs available through the Aironets. The one that has the most problems is the one I've described above -- it's supposed to be for student access. We have a teacher-only network that does NOT seem to have the same bandwidth constraints as the student network. We also Cisco VOIP phones all over the school, but use of the phones is modest.

    What we’d like to know:
    1.     Is it likely that we have an insufficient number of access points or that that those access points can’t handle? If so, is the problem likely that we need more access points? (and if that's true, why is the teachers' network ok?)
    2.     Is the problem more likely at the server or switch choke point?
    3.     Is it likely that the problem involves Student accounts rather than teacher accounts? Why would this be so?
    4.     What are the best ways to test what’s causing our choke points?
    Thank you for your help!!!

Thanks all for your comments. Here are some responses as well as our current "plan of action." I'd VERY MUCH welcome any additional suggestions that you have about the test we're going to run (probably next Tue).
    1. Channel: the site operates on Channel 1 (2.4 Ghz)
    2. Professional site survey: no: AT&T is supposed to do it at some point as they're our ISP. But that hasn't yet happened. No idea when it might.
    3. Aggressive load balancing?  We don't know as AT&T has that info.
    4. 15th client... Once we exceed 15 clients, access for all clients grinds to a halt. The slowdown is a pretty steep curve (not quite a cliff) for 15 clients when we use iPods; it begins at 12 clients or so when we use Macbooks.

Does your WLAN come to a halt or does the wired LAN gets affected too?
When we experience these problems, the teachers’ wireless LAN is unaffected. The only place we’re experiencing the slowdown is on the wireless LAN that’s used by the students. We have a “computer lab” with a wired network of about 30 PCs. (Ethernet CAT 5 to fiber on the way out of the building). This is a separate VLAN from the (student) wireless VLAN. When the student wireless VLAN stalls, it DOES NOT affect either the wired VLAN or teacher network. We do experience slowdowns on the WIRED student VLAN but no where as severe as on the WIRELESS VLAN. (In other words, we can run all 30 wired PCs on the wired LAN).
    6. Could inability to get more computers on the network be due to an address limitation in the NAT server?
No. We have a big, big address range.
Here's our current plan: we're going to VERY CAREFULLY chronicle the drop off in usage at several points during the day:
    8:00 am (no students)
10:00 am (busy school but probably not much student wifi usage)
noon: we'll run a test with +15 students using laptops and measure the bandwidth using a network speed checker at every point. That way, we figure we'll have a clearer chart of the usage breakdown.
Does anyone have any suggestions of addition things we should monitor during this test? We're going to do it next Tue (2/19).
In addition, if there are any specific questions that we should put to AT&T, I'd love to hear them.
    Thank you all!!

  • Aironet 1142N gets hot

we just purchased a new Cisco Aironet 1142N and it does get hot towards the top center where the Cisco logo is.
Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Is the Cisco logo pointed downwards?
If it is hot-to-touch, I'd recommend you RMA it.  It could be a fire hazard.

  • Dynamic VLAN Assignment with RADIUS Server and Aironet Access Points

    Hi Guys,
I would like to go for "Dynamic VLAN Assignment with RADIUS Server and Aironet Access Points 1300". I want the AP to broadcast only 1 SSID. The client find the SSID ->put in his user credential->Raudius athentication->assign him to an specific vlan based on his groupship.
The problem here is that I don't have a AP controller but only configurable Aironet Access Points 1300. I can connect to the radius server, but I am not sure how to confirgure the AP's port, radio port, vlan and SSID.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a008076317c.shtml#switch
    I go through some references:
    3.5  RADIUS-Based VLAN Access Control
As discussed earlier, each SSID is mapped to a default VLAN-ID on the wired side. The IT administrator may wish to impose back end (such as RADIUS)-based VLAN access control using 802.1X or MAC address authentication mechanisms. For example, if the WLAN is set up such that all VLANs use 802.1X and similar encryption mechanisms for WLAN user access, then a user can "hop" from one VLAN to another by simply changing the SSID and successfully authenticating to the access point (using 802.1X). This may not be preferred if the WLAN user is confined to a particular VLAN.
There are two different ways to implement RADIUS-based VLAN access control features:
    1. RADIUS-based SSID access control: Upon successful 802.1X or MAC address authentication, the RADIUS server passes back the allowed SSID list for the WLAN user to the access point or bridge. If the user used an SSID on the allowed SSID list, then the user is allowed to associate to the WLAN. Otherwise, the user is disassociated from the access point or bridge.
    2. RADIUS-based VLAN assignment: Upon successful 802.1X or MAC address authentication, the RADIUS server assigns the user to a predetermined VLAN-ID on the wired side. The SSID used for WLAN access doesn't matter because the user is always assigned to this predetermined VLAN-ID.

Any help on this issue is appreicated.
    Thanks.

I'm not sure if the Autonomous APs have the option for AAA Override.  On the WLC, I can go into the BSSID, Security, Advanced, and there's a checkbox that I would check to allow a Radius server to send back the VLAN.
I did a little research and it looks like the 1300 may give this option but instead is defined as "VLAN Override".  I've found the release notes for 12.3(7)JA5 (not sure what version you're running) that give mention and a link to configuring EAP on page 4: http://www.ciscosystems.ch/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/1300/release/notes/o37ja5rn.pdf
    Hope this helps

  • I want to set up the Time Machine and I would love to use the Time  Capsule but since I already have a wireless router I need suggestions on  what other external disks Apple could recommend to use with the Time Machine and  how to configure that disk

I want to set up the Time Machine and I would love to use the Time
Capsule but since I already have a wireless router I need suggestions on
    what other
external disks Apple could recommend to use with the Time Machine and
    how to configure that disk.
A complication that I need to resolve is the fact that I am using Vmware
Fusion to be able to use Windows on my Mac. Now it seems that Time
Machine is not backing up my files
on that virtual Windows without additional configuration and my question
is whether you can advise me here or whether this is only a matter for
    the Fusion virtual machine.

If you want to use Time Capsule you can.. you simply bridge it and plug it into the existing router.. wireless can be either turned off or used to reinforce the existing wireless.. eg use 5ghz in the TC which is much faster than your 2.4ghz.
You can also use a NAS.. many brands available but the top brands are synology, qnap and netgear readynas  series. These will all do Time Machine backups although how well always depends on Apple sticking to a standard. There are cheaper ones.. I bought a single disk zyxel which was rebadged and sold through my local supermarket. It actually works very well for TM at least on Snow Leopard. Major changes were made in Lion and again ML so do not instantly think it will work on later versions. I haven't tried it yet with those versions.
Any external drive can be plugged into the mac. Use the one with the fastest connection or cheapest price according to your budget. USB2 drives are cheap and plentiful. But no where near as fast as USB3 or FW800. So just pick whichever suits the ports on your Mac. Interesting Apple finally moved to USB3 on their latest computers.
TM should exclude the VM partition file.. it is useless backing it up from Mac OS side.. and will slow TM as it needs to backup that partition everyday for no purpose.. TM cannot see the files inside it to backup just the changes.
You need to backup windows from windows. Use MSbackup to external drive.. if you have pro or ultimate versions you can backup to network drive. But MSbackup is a dog.. at least until the latest version it cannot restore the partition without first loading windows. There are about a zillion backup software versions for windows.. look up reviews and buy one which works for you. I use a free one Macrium Reflect which does full disk backups and is easy to restore.. to do incremental backups though you have to pay for it.

    Hello guys
what's the implicit joins and how to configure it? What's the purpose of implicit and explicit joins?
    Please help
    Thank you

Thus, on my side, I think that :
Explicit join define the join condition between the key column from the table.
    (table1.di = table2.id)
    While
    Implicit Join define :
    * the type of join outer, inner, ...
    http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dw/join/start
    * And the relationship (one-to-many, cardinality)
    http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dw/data_quality/relationships
And all this information are used to generate the statement (query).
And I don't really know why you have two type of key :
    * Physical Foreign Keys
    * Logical Foreign Keys

I have been unsuccessfully trying to extend the wifi of my Time 2T Capsule with an Airport Extreme 2nd Gen. It works for a while and then loses configuration. I have done everything possible, disconnected it, reset it but it keeps failing, what to do?

What model and firmware is the 2TB TC?
    What firmware is the AE?
Does the AE get good signal from the TC in its current location?
Signal can only be extended that is received intact.
Is it extending on 5ghz? As I remember it a Gen2 AE is only single band, although you can choose either 2.4ghz or 5ghz.
I am fairly sure you are going to tell me your TC is AC model..
I would do a couple of things..
    1. Fix the wireless name, make it short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    2. Fix the wireless channel for 2.4ghz so it is not going to jump around.
    3. Get real results from the AE in its current location for signal strength.. this is really only possible on v5 utility. And that is a double pain with Mavericks because you cannot use it.
Apple have removed all the useful diagnostics from the airport utility. There is next to nothing left. So you need to use the computer and its diagnostics to find signal levels in the location.

  • Class-Map and Policy-Map Configuration in CM Confusion

    Hi,
I'm implementing a green field WAAS deployment for a customer. We currently have a Proof-of-Concept up and running.
I've got some questions regarding custom class-map and policy-map configuration in the CM. I'd like to nail-down the custom class-map and policy-map configuration (and understanding) in the PoC before cutting over the PoC branches to the production WAAS environment.
Assuming a typical WAAS Deployment using WCCP for off-path interception, branch to DC.
==> 61 in LAN (BRANCH ROUTER) <== 62 in WAN        (WAN CLOUD)        ==> 61 in WAN (DC ROUTER) <== 62 in LAN
We are using two distinct device groups, BRANCH and DATA CENTER.
If the customer has traffic that we need to classify in order to provide TFO only optimisation, should the single class-map include the traffic in both directions? Ie., (assume the SERVER is 10.1.1.1 TCP Port 443). Should the class-map be configured as:
    Class-Map
Line 1: DST IP 10.1.1.1 DST Port 443
Line 2: SRC IP 10.1.1.1 SRC Port 443
Or in this case is only the DST line required? And in which Device Group should the custom policy be applied? Or should it be applied to both Device Groups? If it should be applied to both Device Groups, then would it make more sense to have the policy-map in the Branch DG configured to match the DST traffic, and on the Data Center DG have a different class-map match the SRC traffic?
My confusion is how to classify the traffic (SRC or DST or Both - Separate classes for each or different lines within the same class-map), and where to apply the appropriate policy (both Device Groups, just Branch, just DC) and why...
I tried to apply a custom policy and the impact in the PoC was that the TCP Summary report stopped reporting the individual traffic classes showed 'other traffic' only. Can anyone explain why this may have occurred?
    I hope this makes sense.

    for instance like this:
    policy-map police-in
    class class-default
    police rate 10 mpbs <optionally set burst>
    policy-map shape-out-parent
    class class-default
    shape 10 mpbs <optional burst config>
    service-policy shape-out-child
    policy-map shape-out-child
    class class-default
    queue-limit 10 packets
    int g 0/0/0/0
    service-policy police-in in
    service-policy shape-out-parent out
also have a look at CL 2013/2014 (orlando/sanfran) ID 2904 for more QOS details

  • Export and Import of Configuration Data

    Hi All,
I have created a number of custom properties, structures, groups, renderers, layout sets etc and would like to move them from Dev to Test system.
I have found the following in the help doco:
"Export and Import of Configuration Data"
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/e1/029c414c79b25fe10000000a1550b0/content.htm
However I am unable to see its functionality in our portal systems (namely the Actions->Export and Actions->Import functions).
Our version of Portal is: 6.0.9.6.0
    KM: 6.0.9.3.0 (NW04 SPS09 Patch3)
Therefore we should be able to see it? no?
Are there any special settings to see these buttons?
    Cheers,
    Vic

    Thanks for your replies.
OK, so in otherwords, it is not available in SP09 and only in SP12+.
So, to "transport" this information I will have to manually reapply thes settings in the Test system!
