Ctrl-Enter stopped working in the navigation toolbar in 3.6.13

Ctrl-Enter has always been a standard feature in the navigation bar (URL / address bar). For example you type only "getfirefox" in the bar then press Ctrl-Enter and it autofills the http://www and the .com and submits the request, so you are taken to http://www.getfirefox.com without having to type anything other than "getfirefox" and Ctrl-Enter.
This stopped working when I updated to 3.6.13. Also I cannot type a full URL and simply press Enter to submit it. The only way I can cause the browser to go to the URL I entered is to manually put the mouse cursor on the "right arrow" icon at the right end of the URL window and click that icon.
As you can imagine, this is really annoying. I disabled all of my addons (I suspected Firebug or Web Developer of causing the problem) and the problem still persisted anyway. I reinstalled Firefox 3.6.13 and the problem is still the same. I wonder if it has anything to do with Firefox 4 beta being installed on my system. But I don't try to use them at the same time.

I knew AVG Safe Search couldn't be the problem because I had uninstalled it! Guess what. It was uninstalled, all right, but the add-on to Firefox was still there, disabled. That uninstall was grayed out.
I re-enabled it and disabled it, this time it said it would be uninstalled the next time I restarted Firefox. So I did that. Nothing changed. However, this time I noticed that just above the restart message was a place to click restart. That restart worked!
Some people just know how to write obtuse software messages.

  • Enter and Ctrl-Enter stopped working in the address bar since 3.6.13

Since 3.6.13, Enter and Ctrl-Enter no longer do anything at all in my address bar in Firefox. I uninstalled Firefox (including all user settings and preferences) and reinstalled fresh, and was amazed to see that the problem is still the same. If I type "example" and hit Ctrl-Enter, unlike before, I don't get the "http://www." and ".com" filled in for me. If I type "www.example.com" and press Enter, the browser doesn't go there. The only way I can get it to take action on a URL is to use the mouse to click the right-arrow icon at the right end of the address bar.
I posted this earlier and can't find the previous post (searching for Ctrl-Enter and Control-Enter did not find it). Someone suggested that I had a problem with my FF user profile, but uninstalling (with the complete option including settings/prefs) and reinstalling should have fixed that, no?

  • The menu bar and the navigation toolbar do not function though they appear in shaded grayscale. Why?

There is no response to any of the actions in the Menu Bar. Only "Home" works on the Navigation Toolbar: no response from "Go back on page", "Go forward one page", "Reload current page", or "Stop loading this page". Everything appears in a light grayscale except for the "Home" icon.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

The "Go back one page" button on the Navigation toolbar doesn't seem to work on certain pages. On clicking this button, the focus stays on the same page and does not move to the previous page. The previous page does not appear even in the right-click context menu of the Back button. However, I am able to go back one page using Internet Explorer.

Try to open the right-click context menu of the Back button and see if you can go back further.
The current active entry in that list has a bullet in front of it.
If you hover an entry in that session history list then it shows the direction by adding an arrow at the left.
You can left click an item to open it in the current tab or middle-click or Ctrl left-click an entry in that list to open that link in new tab, just like you can with other links.

  • How do I show the reload page and stop loading page buttons on the navigation toolbar. v. 10.0.2

    I upgraded to v 10.0.2
I can't access the reload page and stop loading page buttons on the navigation toolbar, or add them to the toolbar, although I see them on the toolbar when I select Customize.

Please try to '''Reset toolbars and controls:''' and '''Make Changes and Restart''' in the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode] start screen. • I cannot get the STOP button to appear in the Navigation Toolbar, even after going through the suggestions; it will appear when the Restore Default Set window is open, but disappears as soon as DONE is clicked

The X for STOP loading the page does not appear in the Navigation Toolbar. If I do the right click, select Customize, Restore Default Set, it appears; click Done and it disappears. I have disabled the theme; disabled all extensions; reset the toolbar & controls; unchecked the acceleration. No luck.

Starting in Firefox 4, the Go, Stop and Reload buttons are combined in one button at the right end of the URL or Address bar. The button changes depending on the activity:
*green Go arrow when typing in the address bar
*red Stop ("X") button while page is loading
*gray Reload (circular arrow) when page is finished loading.
    Separate buttons are possible:
#Open Customize Toolbar window by clicking Firefox button > Option > Toolbar Layout '''''OR''''' clicking View > Toolbars > Customize if using the Menu Bar '''OR''' right-click in an empty space on a toolbar and choose Customize
#Stop and Reload buttons will show separated between the address bar and the search bar
#drag the buttons anywhere on the Navigation toolbar
#*order Reload-Stop will combine into one button
#*order Stop-Reload will remain separate buttons
#*or drag a "Separator" from the Customize window between Reload-Stop and they will remain separate
#click Done at bottom right of Customize window to finish

  • After installing 9.0.1 twice on Win7, Firefox does not open websites in the navigation toolbar. Nothing happens when I put in any normal web address.

Firefox now takes an enormously long time to open now that I have upgraded to 9.0.1. The bigger problem is that the navigation toolbar where I enter web addresses does not function when I hit the enter key or by selecting the small arrow key right next to the web address. Win7 64bit, no detectable viruses.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

  • Is it possible to have the Navigation Toolbar (or at least the pop-up Location Bar) show automatically when I open a (blank) new tab and be automatically hidden once I select an address/search?

I'm obviously aware of the possibility to show/hide the Navitation Toolbar manually, but I'd like to have it done automatically to get the best of screen space and navigation ease.

Thanks cor-el! I had tried that out, but was turned off by the different workflow (can't click Tab to select the address suggestions) and assumed by the look that I couldn't use my Smart Keywords for searches.
In fact, the workflow isn't that much bulkier and the Location Bar is fully functional:
    * ''for a search: Ctrl+L, (Smart Keyword +) [search terms], Enter''
    * ''for a suggested address: Ctrl+L, Down, Enter, Enter''
Still, it would be nice in future versions if:
    # the Location Bar could automatically open when opening a (blank) new tab (just as the cursor automatically goes to the Location Bar when a new tab is opened with the Navigation Toolbar showing) to avoid the Ctrl+L step of the workflow
    # the Tab, Enter workflow could be enabled for selecting address suggestions in the pop-up Location Bar
Or (most simply in my mind):
if '''the Navigation Toolbar could be set to show when a (blank) new tab is opened and disappear once an address/search is selected'''.

  • Bookmarks icon disappears from the Navigation Toolbar

There are two different bookmarks icons available for the Navigation Toolbar:
    – a drop-down list version (distinguishable by its down-arrow)
    – a panel version that opens the Bookmarks panel on the left side of the screen
The panel version works just fine for me if I drag it onto my Navigation Toolbar from the Customize Toolbar menu, but I prefer the drop-down list version. When I put the drop-down list version onto my Navigation Toolbar, it seems to work at first. However, when I click "Done" on the Customize Toolbar menu, the Bookmarks icon (drop-down list version) disappears!
Removing and adding it does not solve the problem.
Choosing "Restore Default Set" does not solve the problem, even though the drop-down list version is part of the default set.
    Side notes:
    1) The Reload and Stop icons also disappear, but I expect that, since they effectively merge into the location bar.
    2) Other odd behavior: If I put the panel version icon immediately to the left or right of the Reload, then the Reload icon remains in the Navigation Toolbar (to the right of the location bar). The Stop icon does not exhibit this behavior; it always disappears. After playing around for a bit, I ended up in a situation where the Reload icon would never disappear, no matter which icon was next to it. I was only able to stop this behavior by choosing "Restore Default Set".

This might be a problem with the way Ubuntu modifies Firefox.
Does disabling Ubuntu Firefox Modifications has any effect?
Note that you will only see the Bookmarks Menu button with the drop-down list when the menu bar is hidden and Ubuntu displays window menus in the control bar at the top of the screen with the switch to the Unity window manager.

  • I can edit on Premiere Pro 6 files, but after a dozen keystrokes, the space bar and cursor keys stop working while the save function works

I can edit on Premiere Pro 6 files, but after a dozen keystrokes, the space bar and cursor keys stop working while the save function, render workspace function, export file are still operational. How can I fix it so I may complete my assignment?
Besides DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Suite 6 is the only software on the machine. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Operating System on AMD FX 6100 six-Core Processor at 3.31gHz and 32 GB RAM memory. There are two SLI-bridged GTX680 NVidia cards.
The software was very stable for the last six months, working with 720P proxy files from 2.5K masters (Blackmagic Design Camera). I am working on a feature-length project that exceeds 1000 edits. I have broken the file into 2 one hour segments.
I have deactivated the software before reinstalling the entire OS from scratch. PP6 was very stable for 48 hours. Then the freezing space bar returns. After a dozen strokes into the project, same problem.  I have made cache files store next to originals, I have deleted preview files if they were corrupted and causing instability. Am I missing something?
I have Microsoft Security Essentials for virus protection. I double checked the memory for damage/defect. Nothing says that the motherboard or other components are damaged.
I am in film competition overseas and need to have deliverables in less than a month's time.  I lost the last two weeks troubleshooting and this crisis came at an inopportune moment of the project.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Still getting software freezes but found a way to mitigate for the mean time.
Upon launching Adobe Premiere Pro, hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to launch TaskManager as well.
You will want to highlight Adobe QT32 Server.exe
Right click and select "End Process Tree"
You will get considerable stability in the program, long enough to get timing of cuts done. Be sure to save often.
If the program freezes, do not hit Save. You definitely want to avoid saving the corruption into your TimeLine
CTRL-ALT-DEL to relaunch the TaskManager and highlight Adobe Premiere Pro.exe
    Right-click to "End Process"
No need to reboot the whole system; just launch Premiere Pro again and continue with the session. Note that your work reverted to Last Save.
Hope this helps until the bug is fixed.

  • Why does ctrl + "button" stops working?

    Hello peeps,
I'm having some trouble using ctrl + "any button" in illustrator CS6 (v. 16.0.2 64-bit) with windows 7. I'm not sure how or why it stops working but I usually go on with my normal job and all of a sudden ctrl-commands stops working. (I will try to look into exactly when it happens and get back to here) I can't use ctrl+c, ctrl+v or even ctrl+n for a new document. Alt-commands such as alt+drag and drop with left mouse button to copy still works. I try to reboot illustrator but it's the same thing, ctrl-button doesn't work. I
All ctrl-commands (and just the ctrl-button in general) works well in windows and in my browser (firefox).
Things I've tried but with no success...
    - Re-plugging my keyboard
    - Looked over settings for short commands (they're set to standard)
    - Reboot illustrator
    - Killed illustrator.exe through "ctrl+alt+del"
    Things I've tried with success...
    - Restarting the computer makes ctrl-button work again
However, if I open a saved document (pdf or ai) ctrl-commands all of a sudden works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! /Fredrik

  • Suddenly URL's will show in the Navigation Toolbar–stays blank

Yesterday, I noticed that no URL's will show in my navigation tool bar–it stays totally blank all the time. Also, this weird little "mozilla.com tool showed up on the Navigation toolbar. What the heck? Obviously I nedd access to URL addresses. I am using FireFox 3.6 on MAC PowerBook. Could it be some kind of automatic update? Its driving me crazy. Thanks!

No, sadly nothing worked. I've done everything but its the same. Also, having a strange problem suddenly getting kicked off my server–I know...they shouldn't be related but they both just started happening. Anyway that's why its been a few hours since I was able to respond. I see now that the "tool" that suddenly showed up IS a bookmark tool-where did that come from–how could something like that just show up? I've looked everywhere to turn it off but no go. Also still a blank navigation area )) : Man am I frustrated with this. Thanks for your help. If you have any more suggestions they would be much appreciated.
