Current version of Airport Utility 6.3.1 will not allow me to configure my Airport Extreme
I am trying to extend my Airport network. I bought a couple of years' ago an Airport Express and have been using that but the signal is weak at the back of the house so I thought I would bring back into action my Airport Extreme which I have had for at least 10 years. I can still use it as my primary wi-fi source directly of the modem but I am unable to configure it in the current version of Airport Utility as a base station to extend the network. I think that the Airport Utility is incompatible with it. Is this likely? Is there a soution? Many thanks.
Unfortunately, even if it were possible to find a version of AirPort Utility that would work with the old AirPort Extreme, the old Extreme does not have the capability to "extend a wireless network" since this feature was introduced in the 2007-2008 versions of the AirPorts.
I'm afraid that you will need to add a new AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme if you need to "extend" the current wireless network that the AirPort Express now provides.

Well, that was why I was puzzled in the first place, but Netflix couldn't find any flaws in their system (I tried the suggestions in the link Shawn Grinter 2 posted (thanks to you as well, Shawn)).
But today everything is perky and running smooth without me doing anything about it.

Airport Utility will not recognize any of the devices on the network - mix of Time Capsule, Airport Extreme, and Airport Express. The network works fine. If you use the Airport Utility on iphone you can see and configure all the devices. Any clues?
AirPort Utility version 6.0 is rather limited in its abilities. I suggest you download and install the more useful version 5.6 (for Lion): AirPort Utility 5.6
You can see both wired and wireless clients in Advanced > Logs and Statistics.
AirPort Utility 6.0 cannot be deleted but it will coexist with AirPort Utility 5.6.
Use 6.0 when you want pretty pictures. Use 5.6 when you actually want to do something. -
I have been trying to setup Timed Access Control in Airport Utility and it does not seem to be working correctly.
In Airport Utility from Edit Timed Access Control I Enter a name for my device (iPad/iPhone any device), enter my mac address, set time for Everyday and use default Between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, save and then update. When I go to my device iPad iPhone etc. I still have access even when it is after the time set, 5:00PM. If I set no access it will restrict access also I set a time between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM and access was restricted. It doesnt seem to matter what the device is. I know that the MAC Adress is set correctly. It seems like an issue with the Utility, possibly time miss match or something. Not sure if I am missing something or if this Utility just has flaws. Please Help.I changed the default to (no access) and set an entry for my test device (an iPad) to "Everyday Between 9am to 5pm. The iPad was still able to gain access to the network.
Something else to note, if I try to edit the time of an entry it gives me an error on my MBP "Invalid value", "The value for “Timed Access Control” is invalid." This happens even if I delete a digit (number or letter in the time field) and replace with the exact same. Not sure if the two are related. I have tried to edit access from my iPad. I don't get any errors but I still don't get the expected results. I called Apple to try and get Tech support but they were not much help. Thanks again. -
How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme?
I have a PC running with Win7 and just replaced my Jensen With a brand New Airport Extreme.
I have set up the Airport Extreme to the internet, Iphones and Ipads and it work as it should.
I have downloaded latest Version of Airport tool on my PC. In addition i have downloaded the airport tool for Ipad.
I have reset one of my airport Express and it now shows up both on the Ipad and on the PC airport tool.
My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured."
I have wired the airport Express to my Ethernet to be able to "see it" on my Airport tool.
My AirPort tool on the PC will not permit me to add the airport Express to my new Airport Extreme network (no network names on the drop-down list to choose from). I wished for an easy set-up, but nothing seems to be plug and play as the Commercial says.. can you please help me?

Yep - I in fact have two A1088 and one A1264
I actually bought the new router because the Jensen
router always lost connection to the Airport Express after some hours or days. I
always needed to restart my Jensen to play music and that was driving my wife
mad. The hope was that the Extreme should fix this. Both A1088 have been set up
to only stream music to two of my stereo amplifiers from my PC’s Itunes library.
Are the A1088 now useless?
The A1264 has been set up to feed internet into a Denon Reciever that needed Ethernet cable.

Actually......IF......one is using an older 5.x version of AirPort Utility......AND.....an AirPort Express, a Music icon is displayed at the top of the screen. If you click the Music icon, there are settings to enable AirPlay and establish a password for the service.
The newer Mac 6.x and iPad and iPhone versions of AirPort Utility automatically enable AirPlay, but display no settings for this.
Since ralphington is using Mavericks (10.9.4), there are no controls for AirPlay displayed in his version of AirPort Utility. -
I have windows xp. I 'm trying to download the airPort utility. how can I do this? It is required for AirPort base station right?
Downloading the right file for XP? Check to make sure that you are running XP SP3.
AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows
AirPort Utility is required if you need to set up or change the settings on an Apple AirPort router. It is not required if you are simply connecting to the wireless network from a PC. -
Airport Ver 7.4.1 will not update firmware. Goes throught the process, reboots with the same firmware version. Power cycled the airport, did not help.

Airport Utility not allowing me to configure Airport Express
I'm running a PC connected directly to an Airport Extreme (5th Gen). I would like to set up 2 airport express devices in my house. Initially, I was able to get one to connect but not the other. However, now neither device is working properly. I've rebooted, reset factory settings, searched this and other communities, and cursed to no avail.
Here are the steps I've taken:
1. Started my Airport Extreme and configured it via the AP utility
2. I've set it up as a 'Create a wireless network'
3. Set security to WPA/WPA2 Personal
4. I have checked the 'Allow this network to be extended'
5. Radio mode is on Automatic
6. I've enabled a Guest network
7. I do not have MAC Address access control enabled
8. My iPad, iPod, laptops, etc can all pick up the wireless signal and everything is working well
9. From here, I plugged in my two Airport Express devices into an outlet.
10. AP Utility picked them both up as well as my USB printer but only one Airport Express device would work - meaning only one would stream music via iTunes.(I haven't even tried the printer yet)
11. I tried a bunch of reboots etc and finally took the non functioning one back for an exchange.
12. I got home, rebooted everything and no AP utility won't pick either of them up (amber flasing on both Airport Express devices, green light on the Airport Extreme)
13. In desperation I plugged int he Aiport Express devices into the the Airport Extreme ethernet ports and both showed up in the AP Utility.
14. However, everytime I try and configure the Airport Express devices (while plugged into the Airport Extreme) I keep getting a message saying
An error occurreed while trying to access the Appled wireless device. Mkae sure your network connection is valid and try again
Erro -6753
Any thoughts before I take everything back and get a ham radio?FYI - My external hard drive is formatted to a Mac and my iMac is backing to to it fine. However, everytime I try to select the backup drive on my MacBook Pro, the only option is "other Time Capsule". Airport Utility is not allowing me to access the external hard drive. I have a cd of New Yorker magazine cartoons which I got in 2004. It requires adobe 6.0.1 but my computer will not allow me to install that version as it is outdated. I have windows 7. How to I get this CD to open? -Bob
If the CD absolutely requires that old version, then it is basically obsolete. However, it might work with the current version ... have you installed the current version of Adobe Reader, and if so what does it say when you try to use the CD?

More detail about your scenario is needed:
Windows 7 doesn’t download anything, itself. If you are using a browser to download and it is a browser security message then poke around in the browser settinsg to see if you can see a setting to enable or disable to allow downloads. If you are in a managed network environment it is possible that the downloads are disabled by a group policy that cannot be overridden by the normal user and you’d have to take up your issue with your supervisor or network administration personnel.
Assuming you’re using Internet Explorer, you might also just try another browser, like Firefox or Chrome available that might have more relaxed security settings.
The source of the message should be somewhat obvious and whatever is issuing the message is the thing to tweak the settings of. This really isn’t a Windows Security forum so don’t expect anyone to give you click-by-click instructions for each browser type and version. -
How do I import addresses from Address Book Ver 4.1.2 to the Lion Address Book version 7.0? Mountain Lion will not allow me to open Address book Version 4.1.2
Do you have any addresses in the Lion version?
If not, copy the AddressBook folder from your username/Library/Application Support/ folder on the old mac (or backup).
Copy it to the same location on your new Mac, replacing the one that is there. Start Address Book in Mountain Lion and it should convert the files to the correct format.
If you do have addresses, it is a little more complicated.
First, create a Contacts Archive (from File>Export menu). This will be your backup.
Next, export the current contacts as vCards.
Then, follow the steps above.
Then, import all the cards you exported. If you select all and double-click, it will ask if you want to add them. You'll then have to add them to whatever groups you had set up. -

Airport Extreme unit will not allow Windows devices to access WiFi
For the last 10 or so days, my Airport Extreme unit will not allow Windows based devices to access WiFi (ASUS laptop and Nokia Windows Phone). Our Apple devices have no issues (MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone, iPod). Settings were not changed but there may have been a program update? Have tried resetting without success. Today I tried to bypass the problem by creating guest network access - my MacBook Pro can access the guest network, but again, the Windows-based devices can't log in.
Airport packaging stipulates that this product will service both Apple and PC products. I'm stumped and this is a bit of an issue as my wife's PC has been cut off from the Web as well as my Windows phone. This Airport unit is fairly recent having been bought August or September of last year - so a recent purchase, but to get Apple assistance it appears I'd need to purchase service ticket... (Am using Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and Extreme 5th Gen.)
Is there an easy solution?No software updates available.
Found a Network Options checkbox which blocked IPv6 connections in Airport Utility. Unchecked it, that didn't change anything, so I've returned it to its original setting. But under Internet Options, Airport is set to allow IPv6 connections. Strange that this unit would have settings that appear to contradict each other.
There was an access control panel - but to grant control here, I'd need an Apple address which my Mac would have but which the Windows devices would not, so that setting couldn't be used to address this problem.
So, no solution to the issue that I can see. -

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.
