Custom recording mode in captivate

Captivate has demo, training simulation and assessment
simulation recording modes. It also has a custom mode. What is it
for and How to use it? Does anyone know?

Each of the three modes configures presets.
For example:
* Demonstration mode configures the recording process to add
Text Captions, Highlight Boxes and track Mouse Movement.
* Assessment Simulation configures the recording process to
add Click Boxes with Failure Captions and Text Entry Boxes with
Failure Captions
* Training Simulation configures the recording process to add
Click Boxes with Failure and Hint Captions and Text Entry Boxes
with Failure and Hint Captions
* Custom mode allows you to choose the options that will be
in effect. Maybe you want some combination of elements that the
other modes don't offer.

Selecting multiple recording modes in Captivate 3

I'm using Captivate 3. I understand the concept of choosing your mode eg. demo mode but when you first start a project, you are allowed to select multiple modes.
From what I can see however, you can only produce and add content to these multiple outputs simultaneously, at project creation. Multiple .cp files have been created but you can only edit one at a time. Any additional recordings/edits I add to one will not be picked up by the others.
Is that your understanding? Or am I missing something? My intention was to produce both a demo version and a training simulation simultaneously, with editing of captions and additional recording to be carried out afterwards. It's not viable for me to do all my recording in one seamless session.

Sorry to disagree a little bit. In some cases having the possibility to create 3 recording modes at once is useful and I do not understand why you say this has been abandoned in later versions? They are still there in Captivate 5, and I think that is the latest version. Could you explain
Useful in this situation: you want to have combination of Show me/Try me/Test in one file. Capture in the 3 modes at once and you can use copy/paste (or import in previous versions) slides to achieve your goal. You will be sure that the setup (resolution etc) and the capture will be identical, whereas if you capture at different times in the different modes this is not always the case. It is much easier to delete some slides than to create slides that fit perfectly in the middle of other previous captured slides.In the case you described, I would capture in 2 modes (Demonstration and Training), then copy the 25% slides I need from the Training mode to the Demonstration file.

Unable to set recording mode to custom or training simulation. Always resets to default demo mode

I'm working in a newly installed version of Captivate 4. I am going into edit preferences for the recording mode. I am changing the default from demonstration, to custom, or training simulation. (I've tried both.) Even if I resave my project immediately after, if I try to record, it records in demonstration mode instead of what I had selected. So I went back in and changed the project back to training simulation, and closed the edit preferences box. When I immediately reopened the edit preferences box and looked, it had defaulted back to demonstration mode. I know that I am not accidentally hitting the restore defaults button. How can I get this to record in anything other than demonstration mode?

Unfortunately it would appear that you are misunderstanding how these actually work.
When you click Edit > Preferences > Recording > Modes you see a list of different modes that you may record in. Think of each of these modes as being similar to a recipe. You configure the ingredients used in the recipe here. So later, if someone wants to use the Demonstration recipe, the ingredients are what you configured in this area.
Now, when you prepare to record your project, you choose the recipe you wish to use by clicking the icon in the gray strip. This should produce the flyout menu where you may choose the recipe you modified earlier.

Mass Maintenance will recognize any customer record in workflow process

Please help me on the Workflow process, how to handle below workflow scenario, is there any logic be hand this.

1.2     As-Is Business Process
Currently Data Maintenance teams use standard SAP transaction XD07 to change Customer Account Groups. The standard transaction XD07 allows only one Customer Account Group to be changed at a time. The process is to be manually repeated for every customer. After the Account Group is changes in the request client (X07(10)), an RFC call is made to the BOR client (X07(20)) and then to the transaction client (X08(10)) to change the Customer Account Group as the SAP ALE process does not support Account Group Changesu2026
1.3     To-Be Business Process
From time to time, bulk customer data updates will be needed. This can be the result of business situations that cause multiple updates to be performed for given customer fields such as Customer Account Group field. A new program must be developed to let the user mass update the Customer Account Group field (KNA1-KTOKD). The Program should be accessed on demand using a new T.Code (YMDM_ACCTGRP_CHG).
Business users will submit a spreadsheet in the appropriate upload format to CDM along with written approval from the Food Service data owner to execute the upload in P07. CDM will execute the upload, record all documentation for the audit change log and notify the submitter when complete

The following are the requirements:
u2022     This tool will enable a user to perform bulk update to the customer account group field.

Recording Modes greyed out

All my recording modes have greyed out, as the attached screen shot, so I cannt change options.
I seem to be stuck in Demo mode.
Any ideas what I have done wrong?

Please note that if you have an image, you may insert it inline using the little camera icon just above where you type the post.
This way we may see your image immediately and not have to wait for the forum mods to make it available in the attachments section.
So it will be helpful if you could reply and add the image that way. Perhaps then we might better help you.
Also, what version of Captivate are you using?

Save Custom Recording options as a set?

I thought from reading about the features in Captivate 2 that
I could save my own sets of custom recording options. Every time I
change files, I have to set up my custom recording options again.
It would save me time if I could save these as custom sets and be
able to choose them in the Record dialog. Is this possible?

Well, obviously there is not an option in the recording
dialog. I was kinda hoping there might be an XML or INI file in the
program folder I could modify to add some custom recording sets. I
dug around in the folder but it doesn't look like this is possible.
I went ahead and submitted a feature request.

Error with re-recording on Adobe Captivate 4

Hi,
When i try to create a software simulation using automatic recording mode, get the error below:
Unable to locate the element in the application being recorded. Check if the action was performed outside the browser window.
A breakpoint has occurred at script index 2
Click 'Switch To Manual Mode' to continue performing manual actions. Press the designated key to resume automatic re-recording from the next item in the re-recording script.
To skip this action, click 'Continue from next element'.
I am trying to do a simple test using notepad file.
I can create the original project and script file ok.
The problem is when i browse to the saved script file i get the error above.
I am running XP tablet edition service pack 3.
Can anyone help?

Thanks for the reply Rick,
I understood that captivate could be used to re-record actions in software automatically.
I want to record a demonstration of a software application and then repeat in numerous languages using the re-record function.
There is no mention in the user manual that this function is exclusive to internet explorer, (however i do notice the message pop up saying only ie6 is supported).
Any advice would be welcome

Record modes

Dear SDN,
Can I say that regardless of record modes of the datasource as shown in roosource, delta handling using an ODS gets the same effect ?
For example, I have an ODS with overwrite enabled to handle delta. This data is delta loaded into cube.
It does not matter what image the datasource is providing right? delta handled as effectively by an ODS when I use its change logs mechanism.
I am just confused about the images and the ODS delta handling.
Please help me.

HI Mierlla--
For BC DataSources SAP has came up with predefined Deltas...with the respective images...
I can say Datasources with After image would go to ODS. we need to Check in the ROOSOURCE Table for the images. Also Even in the BW side SAP has provided with relavent ODS and CUBES for datasources..
For custom datasources you have to specify the delta...in that there you will fine an option for the datatargets compatible..

Recording Mode

Captivate will not allow me to change the Recording Mode to
anything other than "Demonstration".
This is what I do. I go to "Edit", "Preferences",
"Recording", "Modes", and change the Recording Mode from
"Demonstration" to "Training Simulation". If I click "OK" and go
back into "Preferences", the Recording Mode is set back to
"Demonstration". Captivate will not allow me to change the
Recording Mode to anything other than "Demonstration". What could
be causing this?

I think you are slightly confused by the dialog. When you
click Edit > Preferences > Recording node > Mode(s) node
what you see is a dialog allowing you to configure preferences for
the different recording modes. You aren't actually choosing the
mode to record in by default. You choose the mode at the time you
record.
Here's how it works. You open Captivate and choose to record
a project. Upon choosing the type of recording you see the red
recording rectangle. In the upper left corner of the rectangle is a
gray strip containing 5 icons. You choose the recording mode from
those icons. For example, let's say you wanted Assessment mode. You
would click the Camera icon. When you do this, a larger flyout
dialog appears. In that dialog is where you configure the mode(s)
you want.

Kicked out of recording mode prematurely

I am seeing a problem with Captivate 3 where clicking certain
UI controls in the app I'm recording kicks me out of recording
mode. The curious thing is it only happens on one machine. Doing
the same thing while recording on another machine works
correctly.

I was able to figure out a workaround. In Captivate, under
Recording>Settings, uncheck the option “Hide Adobe
Captivate system tray icon”. Then on your desktop, right
click on the system tray (the bottom right hand corner). Click on
Properties. Click on the notification area tab. Click customize.
Then find Captivate on the list. It most likely says “Hide
when inactive” next to it. Click on that phrase and it should
turn into a drop down menu. Choose “Hide”. I believe
you would only have to make these settings once and they will stick
until you go back and change them.

I have quicktime pro and it does NOT have the screen record mode that Quicktime is suppose to have. Can I uninstall it and go back to an older version that would have screen recording? If so, how? Step by step needed. Thank you for your time.

Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.

Searching attibutes in the record mode in Data Manager

If i create a new attribute in taxonomy mode,i cannot view it in the corresponding search in the record mode in Data Manager.The particular attribute which i have added is not getting displayed in the attributes in the search pane.If i have to search for that attribute in the record mode what should i do.

Photoshop brush does not represent correctly when recorded with Adobe Captivate 7 How do I Fix this?

Hello I have only just recently purchased adobe captivate 7.
I am currently recording some footage in Photoshop and when ever I change the photoshop's brush size it does not correctly record it in Captivate but rather a giant pixelated version of it. or the brush does not match the size of the brush it is painting.

I was wondering if it is possible to record the cursor as it displays on my screen.
below you can clearly see it is recording the brush size at the wrong size to what is been drawn. its kinda random in how it does it.

Routines are used as per needs. Not based on 0recordmode.

Not mandatory. if we run first time dtp with delta mode option then no need to select change log option.
if we perform dtp as init and later delta then we need to choose changlog option for delta.

No. 0RECORDMODE is upto DSO level only to track changes.

0record mode works based on data source delta type.
Data source delta type you cam see from table ROOSOURCE and field deltyp - ABB.ABD.AIE...etc.

Animations not working in record mode

I uploaded a powerpoint file to Keynote, and started off working fine in record mode. But then I noticed some of the formatting needed to be changed and now the animation text doesn't show up in the recorded window. I can see it in the preview window of the next slide, but not in the main window. When I go to play a full screen slide show, it works fine. Help is appreciated

Try restarting your iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo. Then give it a try.
