Custom web parts in SharePoint 2013 becomes inactive when the session is idle for long time.

Hi,
We have a search center site with custom web parts and custom master pages. When the session is inactive for long time all the custom web parts in the page doesn't work, unless we close the browser and open it. Where as this is not the case with the
OOB web parts. We are not able to identify the root cause as it works with OOB web parts and not the custom web parts.We were able to find that by increasing the session timeout of the web application we can avoid this issue.We do not want to increase the
session timeout as the OOB web part works perfectly even when the user session is idle for long time.Is there any other alternative where we can acheive the same for custom web parts when the session is idle for long time?

Hi Saranya,
According to your descirption, my understanding is that when the session is long time idle ,then custom web part will not work.
I suggest you check if you have enable the session in the Page Level in the web.config. By default SharePoint disable the session state.
In the web.config, you will see <page enableSessionState> tag. You can modify like below and test if it works.
<pages enableSessionState=”true” ….. />

1. You can create a simple demo web part without your custom code firstly, then insert it into your form pages to see if the similar issue would occur. If it works, then add your
other code into it one after one. By doing this, it will be easier to find out the root cause of this issue.
2. What browser do you use? Please try to use IE 10(SharePoint 2013), IE8(SharePoint2010).
3. You can also debug your code using IE F12 Developer Tools.

SharePoint app you mean a simple sharePoint 2013 application like site, team site etc, or do you mean an App (the new feature like webPart).
To add a SSRS Report viewver web part follow these steps
1. Edit the page
2. Choose insert a webpart
3.Select SQL server Reporting -> SQL Server Reporting Services Report Viewer webpart
4. Configure the webpart to show your .rdl files.

Status of DataView Web Part in SharePoint 2013

I hope this is a simple question but I'm stumped. What is the status of the DataView Web Part in SharePoint 2013? I am working on a migration of our site from SP 2010 to SP 2013. We previously had a DataView Web Part which is used widely on our site. It
is not showing up and the error is "Type type could not be found or it is not registered as safe." When I try to add a new copy of this web part, I get the message "The type Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.DataViewWebPart....PublicKeyToen=71e9bce111e9429c"
could not be found or it is not registered as safe.
I'm not the Farm Admin is this case, so my question is whether the web.config needs to be edited to make this usable, or something else perhaps. Or am I simply out of luck using this in SharePoint 2013.

I suspect you will need to compare the web.config files on the new 2013 system to the ones on the old 2010 system and evaluate the differences. The safecontrol entry is in my default 2013 environment. If its not in yours it will need to be added.
For any web part to work you need three things:
A safe control entry in the web.config
A .dll that contains the code that generates the html displayed when the web part is rendered.
A .dwp or .webpart file in the web part gallery that contains info about what class and .dll to use
#3 should be in the content database you are migrating. YOu'll need to verify that #1 & #2 exist.

Custom web part in SharePoint Online for "User segments"

Hi Experts,

However, this seems to require a custom web part to be build and deployed in SharePoint Online.
Anyone has made user segment work in SharePoint Online? Anyone has done this custom web part before?

By default the Site Users web part shows all the users and groups who have been give direct permission to the site. That would not include anyone who was given permission by being added to a group. You can modify the web part settings to show
a list of people in the Members group of the site or any other specific group. But there is no setting to show all the users who have access.

Minimize web part in Sharepoint 2013

We upgraded SharePoint 2007 to 2013 and now we cannot minimize the web parts even if each part is set with "allow minimize" and chrome state is "Title ad border" or "Title only". Someone could help?

Does this behavior occur on application pages ?
As far as I know, it can be caused by that the web part zone's AllowPersonalization peroperty is set to false. If the page is an application page, you can go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS to find
your page and make sure the web part zone's AllowPersonalization peroperty is true. Also please add your site to compatibility mode .

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to filter a calendar based a look up column in SharePoint 2013.
Calendar View not support OOTB filters connection. it is disabled for calendar view, you need to change view(not calendar view) so OOTB filters works and get connected to your view.
You can achieve this using combination of jQuery and SharePoint OOB techniques.

Unable to add web part to SharePoint 2013 page

My account has full control on the site collection, and when I edit the page and click on the Add a Web Part, nothing happens. I would expect to have a list of web parts that I can select from, but this does not appear. What can I do to enable
this or get web parts added to the page?

1.Is there any customized script that might affect the issue?
2.Could you please test the issue with another user account? Does it work before for your account?
3.Please test the issue on other browsers and see if it works.

I've added Trending Tags web-part on my application page. Whenever I post a #Tag from wall , it takes around 1 day to reflect in trending-tags web-part. Also , it shows "2 uses in the past week". I have configured the search properly , with incremental

Web part permissions sharepoint 2013

Hello,
I have an issue regarding web parts and whom can see these.
I would like to have a web part showed on a site with a view that only a certain group of people can see. I know it was possible with sharepoint 2010 to limit the acces to a web part, but i dont know wether it is possible with sharepoint foundation?

Issue with web part connections : won't display data when the lookup field is a calculated field

I have a list A with a calculated field named A.A. I have a list B that has a lookup field to list A, to field A.A, named B.A. I add the two lists in a wiki page and I try to connect them - I.E., select a row from A and the rows from B would be automatically
filtered.
The B\Connections\get filtered values from A and select Provider:A.A, Consumer B.A doesn't bring any results. If I do the exact opposite: A\Connections\get filtered values from B and select Provider:B.A, Consumer A.A works fine. But, this is not what
I want.
If the A.A isn't calculated field, everything works fine. So, it looks like there's an issue with calculated fields acting as consumers.
Is this a known issue and are there any know workarounds? A workaround is to abandon calculated field and use sharepoint designer workflow.

According to your post, my understanding is that you had issues about connecting web parts.
I try to reproduce the issue, however, everything works well.
Create a custom list named List A, add a caculated column named A.A(Formula: =Title).
Create a custom list named List B, add a lookup column named B.A(List A: A.A).
Create a page and then insert the two list view web parts.
Edit page, select List B->Connections->Get Filtered Values From List A.
Then I can filter the List B.
I recommend to create another caculated column and get filter value form it to check whether it works.

This was a comment from my business users who have worked with various versions of SharePoint. I understand SP 2013 has put in logic to make the web pages to be compatible with a wider set of browsers and screen form factors. Nevertheless, the issues raised
by my business users are valid.
Comparing a basic web part page of SP 2013 with SP 2007 and 2010, their feedback was:
SP 2013 pages do not have clear boundaries
SP 2013 pages are generally devoid of colour. This is makes it harder to visually distinguish links from ordinary text.
SP 2013 pages appear to leave large swathes of screen space underutilized.

1. When insert a web part in SharePoint 2013, you can edit the web part and change the appearance and layout of the web part.
You can add the boundaries for the web part. (Edit page->select a web part ->edit the web part->in the appearance section->in Chrome Type, select title and border->after that you can see the boundaries).
2. The color of the links depends on the theme you have selected in SharePoint 2013. Different themes set the different colors of the links. You also can customize the theme or composed look in SharePoint 2013.
