Customize Default Settings Printer Management Console

Have published a Print Management Console to my help desk.  Excellent tool.
Need to enforce settings.  Right click Printers, select Add Printer want to only allow and force as default the setting "Add a TCP/IP or Web Services Printer be IP address or hostname", then once select "Next" want
to force "Type of Device" with value of "TCP/IP Device" and have check box for "Auto detect the printer driver to use" deselected.  Would be nice to also have ability on the next screen, "Print Driver", to have
"Use an existing printer driver on the computer" as the default option.

Hi,
Before going further, would you please provide more detailed information about your issue? It’s hard to provide you the troubleshooting idea with the limited information you posted.
Thanks for your understanding.

  • Print Management Console displays no printers after applying Windows Update for Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB2995388)

After installing optional Windows Update for Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB2995388) on a print server upgraded from Windows 2012 to Windows 2012 R2, the Print Management Console wouldn't display locally shared or remotely shared printers. Another print server
could see the printers on this server, but it couldn't see it's own. Removal of the patch resolved the issue.

    Hi,
    à
Removal of the patch resolved the issue.
Thanks for sharing in the forum. Your time and efforts are highly appreciated.
On current situation, would you please let me confirm something more?
Please check if this update rollup package (KB2995388) install successfully.
Please run sfc /scannow command to scan all protected system files after installed this update.
If be possible, please re-install Print Server feature on the server after installed this update. Any find?
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Does anyone know a way to modify "Default Settings" printer preset?

I use enough different presets that I find that the "Last Used" preset for printing if often what not what I really want.
(Background: I save a number of different profiles for different types of print jobs, so that I can select "Color Production" as a preset, for example, and get a number of printer settings configured as once, like Color Settings, Quality, Color, and duplexing.  These are set and selected using the "Presets" picker in the Print dialog box.  One can use the picker to save and view settings as well.)
Am I correct in that there doesn't seem to be a way to change the "Default Settings" preset?  The "Show Presets" pick in Presets doesn't offer the ability to change the presets, and the "Default Settings" preset can't be deleted here, unlike the user set presets; it also isn't possible to save a preset as "Default Settings".
Ideally, changing the default would let me check the box to always use the default (as default), but this way I would have my own defaults.  Just wondering whether I'm missing something obvious - I've tried the modifier keys trick clicking on things, and also the CUPS subsystem at localhost:631.

  • MX860 default settings: printer vv fax

    Hi all,
this is my first post. My default printer is an MX860. Its icon in Devices and Printers (Win 7 Home Premium) states "Canon MX860 Printer". But if I change the default printer to my MF4550D mono laser, the MX860 appears to default itself to "Canon MX860 series FAX" Is this usual?
    Many thanks
    Ken.

You set your defaults for Illustrator in each New Document Profile. In CS3 those are hidden within the application package.
You can reach them by ctrl+clicking on the application package and choose Show Package Content. In the Required folder you find a folder called New Document Profiles. By opening those and changing the Document Setup Settings for each one of those and saving (I change mine to A4 for instance and all language thingies to Swedish). CAUTION: Do a backup of the original files to another location before you start editing if you would ever want to return to defaults.
Works most of the time but have some glitches occassionally in Leopard.
Also set your default printer on system level in System Preferences. Print & Fax.

  • How to add print server in server manager console

    Hello,
I want to know how can I add print server in server manger console (not print management console)? I want to add another print server in server manager. I can add it by print management, but dont know how to add it in server manager. In server manager there
is only local server in Print Services.

    Hi Amin2234,
As far as I know you can There are two primary tools that you can use to administer a Windows print server:
    •Server Manager
    •Print Management
Print Management provides a single interface that administrators can use to efficiently administer multiple printers and print servers and is the primary focus of this document.
Print Management provides a central administration point for sharing printers on a network and managing print server and network printer tasks.

    Hello,
Thanks for your answer, but I asked how to add print server in "Server Manager" consol, not by print management.
My server manager has currently 1 print server added, while I have 2 print server added in print management. I want to add the second print server in server manager console too.

  • Printers are not visible in Print management

Installed print server feature in Windows server 2012 .We have added few printers in server, but these printers are not visible in printers section of Print management console.Even the default Microsoft XPS writer is not showing up.
Restarted Spooler service and reinstalled print management console.Server DNS record looks good too.
Able to view the printers in "Device and printers" .They are not visible only in print management console.
    Thanks

    Hi Daemon_Joker,
Please check if some necessary updates need to be installed. Please run
sfc /scannow command to scan all protected system files.
    Meanwhile, please use
Get-Printer PowerShell cmdlet retrieves a list of printers installed on the computer. Did all printers display correctly?
In addition, please open Print Management, click Printer Servers, expand
your printer server, then right click Printers and select “Add Printer…”. Please check if you will be able to find printers via this wizard.
If anything I misunderstand or any update, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Printers not showing in Print Management on Local Server

Fresh Server 2012 R2 VM on Hyper-V setup as a print server only.  It allows me to add printers and they show up in the Control Panel in Devices and Printers, but they don't show up in Print Management under server (local). Ports and drivers show up.
If I connect to it from Computer Management on my Windows 7 machine the printers show up.
Any ideas what would be blocking the printers from being viewed?

  • Printers disappear from Print Management on the server itself

I have a server 2012 r2 print server.  A short time ago all the printers disappeared from the print management view on the server itself.  They are still showing in the ports view, I can still add a printer, and people can still print (though I
am getting many complaints that printing has become slow, not sure if that is related or not.) Any suggestions or ideas on what might be causing this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

  • Setting default printer with printers deployed via print management

Would like to set default printer on a windows 7 workstation to a printer deployed through group policy using print management.  However whenever machine reboots the defualt changes to a local printer XPS or something else.
HOw can I set the default printer to one of the deployed printers?

Even though this is a "machine" connection, the connection is created in each users security context.  Default printers are tied to user profiles and settings.
I'm sure what is happening is the connection is getting created after the system sets a default or the network path is not yet available when the default printer is set.
You can use prnmngr.vbs to get and set the default.  If get returns XPS printer, then set can change to one of the valid connections.

Have you tried to go here and select your Gateway, then follow the trouble shooting tips. Most gateways/routers default passwords at one point were changed to the serial number for security reasons. If that does not work, you may try resetting the gateway/router to get back to the default. Never leave your gateway/router with the default passwords. If you get into the gateway/router a Verizon firmware upgrade if it is a Verizon model, may even change the default password to the serial number so it is not the standard D-Link that is used with all their gateways.

  • Change printer settings using print management

I have deployed some printers using 'Print Management' in Windows 2012. My users see the printer. By default, 'paper size' is set to 'letter'. I want to change it to 'A4'.
I went to 'print management' tool on the print server. There I changed the format to 'A4'. I have right clicked the printer and I have chosen 'deploy with group policy'.
Unfortunately, the paper size is still set to 'letter'. Also after 'gpupdate /force' and computer restart.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Printer settings are not pushed to clients. the only way to get the default settings from the server is to unmap and remap the network printer. this allows user to locally adopt the settings to their likings. A workaround that is often impelmented is
have the logon scritp rempa all network printers.
you should take care to configure the settigns correctly on the printserver as it is easy to mistakenly configure your local settings only.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305402

  • How can I change printer default settings?

    Officejet J5700 series:
How can I set the default settings so I dont have to change the printer Properties each time I print?

just thought of one thing that may have solved the problem. I had not changed color management from automatic to manual. I did that and it seems to now be working the way I want it. More later if that doesn't hold across reboot, log out, etc.

  • Correct printer default settings

    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
    Can someone help me !!!!
    This is driving me nuts.
For some reason the Default settings, when I print anything on my home printer have changed.
    - Paper size - other
    - orientation - landscape
Therefore everytime I print I get 1/2 the print coming over the right hand side of the page.
I can correct, but need to do this every time I print.
Can someone please tell me how I can change the default print settings for my printer, so I don't have to change them ever single time I print.
    Many thanks
    have a great day

    Hello diedoggie,
You can change the default printer settings in CUPS.
Just go to: http://localhost:631/admin > Manage printers > Select your printer > Change "Administration" to "Set Default Options". When you're done, you click "Set Default Options".

  • Printer Queue Settings Mysteriously Reverting Back to Default Settings on 2008 R2 print servers

Printer Queue Settings Mysteriously Reverting Back to Default Settings on 2008 R2 print servers
We have 4 Windows Server 2008 R2 print servers, all of which has the same printer queues installed on them that are utilized by a 3rd party printing program that does a round-robin load balancing scheme.
All printers are a combination of HP and Xerox all running some variation of the HP UPD and the Xerox UPD.  Some use the PCL 5 and some use the PCL 6 version determined by age of printer and need.
There are typically two printer queues for each physical printer.
    Example:
    LOCATION_ROOM
    LOCATION_ROOM_TRAY2
The regular queue is ok being left with default setting,
The _TRAY2 queues are set to print to "labels" or "pre-printed" paper type or a specific tray.
From time to time, these _TRAY2 queues will revert back to a factory default state and lose the setting to print to a specific paper type or tray.  Sometimes it happens to the _TRAY2 queue on all 4 servers, sometimes just 1 server, etc.  No rhyme
    or reason.
Disabled Bi-directional options on both the HP and Xerox UPDs per another article on the internet that said bi-directional could cause the printer to send back settings to the driver and cause this issue.  Even with this option off, we continue to see
printer _TRAY2 queue settings revert back to factory default and lose their specific paper and tray settings.  We have ruled out the possibility that users or other technicians are the ones making these changes so we suspect it is some interaction between
the servers, printer drivers and printers themselves causing the issue.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'd start by using one of the print drivers included in Windows for a few of the printers and confirm it's the universal driver that is causing the issue.
HP installs some other processes and services on the machine which communicate with the HP devices.
PML and something else.  You might want to shut those down and see if these processes are the ones modifying the settings.
Run process monitor to truly identify which processes is causing the modifications.
