Cutting part of path

I am sorry, this is probably a very beginner question but I could not find an answer elsewhere:
I use Illustrator CS6, I used the pen tool to create an elipsoid "shape" by creating a path and giving it stroke and fill, I made a second one ot top of the first, now the second one covers the first at about mid level and I want to cut the top part of the first shape/path, that is showing, off.
I have tried with various methods but with strange results. Could I get an expert opinion, please?

I think the easiest way is the shape builder tool
select all of the art
then place the Shape Builder Tool cursor in the light blue area of the part you do not want
then drag it across the stroke of the that area until it highlights red let go of the mouse.
then deselect the art and use the direct select or selection tool to select that area and delete.

  • How to create bounding box over part of path

    Hi,
need to create a bounding box over part of path as done by Wade ; http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/2-4305034-180560/Screen+Shot+2012-03 -31+at+6.01.24+PM.png
    tnx,

The other two posters are absolutely correct.
But you have two choices to do what you want as far as I know since your path is not an effect as mine was.
You can use the scissor tool to cut the segment you want to be able to select. I assume you want to move it or rotate it or perhaps resize it or a combination of those.
If you need the original path to remain intact you can take the lasso tool and select that segment of the path and do a copy and then a paste in front and you will have a copy of that segment sitting on top of the original segment which will still be part of the original path.
If you intend to alter the segment and then rejoin it to the original path then use the scissor tool approach.

  • Cut parts of a PDF file to paste in other document

I am using Adobe Reader 8.1.1. In an earlier version it was possible to cut parts of a PDF file and paste it into an other document.
This feature does not seem to work in V8.1.1.
    Any solution to this problem.
    Best regards
    Peter

In version 8.0 try the View menu then goto Toolbars More Tools.
The snapshot tool, and many more, are located here. The list is long so you might want to scroll to the bottom of the list. It is under the heading "Select & Zoom Toolbar"

  • Cut parts from song and import them into the sampler on ipad

How do I cut parts of my song in garageband (ipad) and put them into the sampler to fix the pitch on specific parts of my pre-recorded vocals?
For example, I already have a song I recorded, and I would like to simply cut a few seconds of the vocals, go into the sampler, fix the pitch, and then re-insert the editied piece back into my song.
Is this possible on the ipad? I know that the "autotune" option isn't available on the ipad, but I simply want to fix the pitch on a few notes and I was wondering if there's any way to do that.
If there's not, do you have any suggestions or any app reccomendations that might help me achieve this? I can't afford a macbook pro so that's out of the question.
Sorry if my explination isn't clear! And thanks for any help :]

    Hi,
you should go to PI 7.1 and not PI 7.0 otherwise it makes not so much sense.
And yes it's possible to migrate your scenarios. If you have UDFs you have to check them because the java version has changed.

  • Part of path lost when importing autogenerated files

Hope someone can help as can't find anything on the forum about this.
Have two Framemaker 8 books, one of which contains all the files for a future publication, including LOT, LOF and IX.  This is the full publication but most of it is still heavily in draft.  The second book represents the first release of the publication and has only a small subset of agreed content.  The idea is that the publication will grow in time.
The second book is in a subdirectory below the directory containing the first book and the full set of files.  It has its own LOT,LOF and IX.  It also links up to a few of the files above, the ones that are in the first release. The LOT, LOF and IX contain contain references only to these few content files. Have done it this way rather than put everything in one directory, as there will be a number of subsets, with multiple PDFs produced for review from each before the finalised PDF containing the current content to be released at any one time, and don't want them all in the same directory with the management problems that would introduce, and risk of people selecting the wrong version of a LOT, LOF etc. The content files with the actual text in are not duplicated in this subdirectory; the book just links to them in the directory above itself.
All was well on one PC but needed to work on a second also. This second one has a different directory structure and it isn't possible to change it because of the different policies in place.  So copied the main directory and the other subdirectory beneath to the new PC.  All appeared OK; the lower level book found the files above etc.
To clarify the structure on the second PC is this:
\dir0\dir1\dir2\Content directory - place where the first book plus the preface, glossary/index and the other files in the draft book - the main body
..dir0\dir1\dir2\Content directory\dirA - place where the second book and LOT, LOF, IX are for the book to be published first (the .. represents some other directories from the root)
(On the first PC, it was \dir0\dir1\Content directory\ and dir0\dir1\Content directory\dir A - and this is the shorter path from the root)
When trying to generate the PDF on the second realised something had gone wrong and then found that the problem began in FMkr. The symptom is this:
The LOT, LOF and IX autogenerated files are fine within the book, their links can be clicked and they go to the source files (in the directory above).  BUT these files aren't part of the actual publication.  The LOT and LOF are embedded in a Preface (one of the files in level above) and the IX is embedded in a Glossary and Index file (ditto). When these are imported into the Preface or Glossary as appropriate, whether by reference or by actually including the file, the result is the same - the links become non clickable and an error is saying that the file can't be found. The path is partly truncated - it excludes the directory where the files actually are.
So for a link to the Introduction.fm file, FMkr says it is looking for it as ..dir0\dir1\dir2\Introduction.fm and not ..dir0\dir1\dir2\Content directory\Introduction.fm where it actually is.
This occurs even if the whole structure is copied elsewhere to a place higher in the hierarchy. It isn't possible to reproduce the structure on the first PC because of the configuration of the second PC.  Have tried taking the LOT etc. out of the second book then regenerating them from scratch - they are fine, the links in them are fine, but when imported into the other files, the links miss out the directory which actually holds the source files where the links point to. Must emphasise this did not happen on the first PC.
    Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks Sheila, have now overcome my problem with editing the post (duh!)
Hope the below is clear enough as cannot send an actual screen shot. Have discovered that the number of directories above in path is a red herring because the problem now happens back on the original pc when the book and files are copied back to it.
Have tried creating a test book with only the index, glossary/index and one content file linked from directory above (i.e. test book at dir c level) and it is OK in the autogenerated index but then does the same truncation when the index is imported into glossary/index, i.e. looks for the source file in dir A.  If the source file is copied into the test book directory, the file removed from book and then the local copy added back in and the book updated/import redone, the links work. so it will find it if the source files are in the same directory.  However, this always worked before with lots of test runs and a few real reviews too.
Subject: FrameMaker General Discussion Part of path lost when importing autogenerated files
It would be really helpful if you might do a screenshot  of the File Manager hierarchy of folders and insert them into your posting, maybe use callouts to annotate the various significant levels -- a visual would really, really make it much easier to interpret what you're describing.
    >
Sorry, not coming out very clear compared to viewed on PC. Directories are A, B, C - Dir A caption "The Directory above the content directory. Links in the subset book in Directory C look in here after they are imported into other files in the subset book"
Directory B says "Directory B, the content directory, with introduction, glossary/index and other content files, plus main book, main index, main LOT, LOF. Some of the content files in here are also linked to from the subset book in Directory C"
Directory C says "Directory C containing the subset book with its own index, LOT, LOF, plus links to introduction, glossary/index and a couple of other files in Directory B.  The links to files in Dir B work in the autogenerated LOT, LOF etc, but not when imported into content files (linked files in directory B) although this used to work. They now look for the content files in Directory A instead"
    Hope that makes it clearer.

I have an audio book in itunes.  I would like to "Cut" part of a chapter and "paste" it as an audio file. Can I do that?

The file extension is .au  but the logo looks like a soundtrack pro file.
Yes, they are labeled in order b001au to  b00410.au
The great majority are 1.1 Mb but some are smaller. There are 410 files and I took a sampling here and there.
When I go to info it tells me that it is a neXT sound file.

  • Cut parts from Objects Blend ?

    Hi Designers!
I've made this grid using the Object > Blend mode in illustrator.
But I want to cut some parts out of it.
As you can see in the image it selects more paths then it should (those in the black area need to be untouched, but it auto selects it anyways) I supppose this is because of the effect the 'Blend' has.
How can I cut away those grid lines while still having the (object > blend) effect.
    Thanks!
    Greets,
    Stylow

You could also use Object > Expand to break the blend into all of its component parts.

  • How do i "cut" parts out of tracks in i-tunes

ages ago when i 1st got an i-pod someone told me how to selectively cut unwanted parts (ie 20 mins of silence) out of tracks in i-tunes..... for example so that when i have "something in the way" from "nevermind" in my i-tunes instead of the track being over 20 mins long, it is only the 3mins 48secs of the actual song.
can anyone remind me as to how this is done. many thanks

glad you got it working marti.

  • When playing movie in project window it cuts part of the video screen

I purchased Call Recorder for Skype to record my girls violin lesson over skype with their teacher in Bermuda. Now I need to cut certain parts of the video so we can play it during practice .. I don’t want to play the entire video. I had the Record Video set to "Two Track (Advanced)". I imported the recorded .mov file into iMovie. Then I skimmed the video and selected the part that I am interested in and dragged it to the project window. Now when I play the movie in the event browser, it plays the movie as I would like to side by side. However when I play the segment that I selected in the project window, it cuts 1/2 of each window which is not what I want as I would like to able to play this clip showing both the teacher and the student. What do I need to do???? Help!!!!! Thanks!

    Hi Runa,
There are a couple of things you need to check. Firstly, click on the small gear icon at the start of the clip (segment). Select "Cropping, Ken Burns and Rotation" from the pop-up menu. In the top left corner of the Viewer, click on "Fit".
Secondly, in iMovie's menu go to File>Project Properties. In the window that opens select the "Timing" tab. For the items "Initial Photo Placement" and "Initial Video Placement" select "Fit in Frame".
You may need to follow only the second suggestion, as this may fix the whole project for you. Otherwise, use the first suggestion for each of the clips (segments) in your project.
Also, in the Project Properties General tab ensure that you have set the correct Aspect Ratio for your project, that is, Widescreen (16:9) or Standard (4:3).

Ensure that your Deployment share, is not longer than say... 30 chars on your host machine:

  • Illustrator CC2014 does snap the Cut tool to path intersections w/ Smart Guides on

This is driving me crazy. Is there something I'm overlooking here or is this (essential) feature missing in CC2014?

    Hey Jacob,
    This applies to all paths.
You can try it for yourself - just draw two intersecting lines with the Line Segment tool, turn on smart guides, and try to snap Cut to the intersection.
This is kind of driving me crazy because it means to cut lines / objects exactly, I have to draw another shape, snap an anchor to the intersection (at least this works), send it to the back and then snap the Cut tool to the new anchor.

  • How to cut part of multitrack session to new session in Abode Audition 3.0?

I record live performances in Adobe Audition 3.0's multitrack feature, which are about an hour long.   When I highlight a section of a set of four tracks (containing one of  the songs I want to save out), I cut it, and paste each track into a new session.  However, it  looks like all I'm doing is pasting the *whole* thing, with just a  section showing.
Is there an easy way to create a session in Audition that contains  *just* the portion I'm highlighting?  Having to copy the entire hour  long performance for each song is eating up a lot of storage space.   There must be a way to "trim" the copy so that the raw files associated  with it *only* contain the song I'm looking for...?
I suppose I could find out the beginning/ending times I need, highlight that portion in the first track in track view, trim it, and save it, repeat for all four tracks, and then load them all into a new session, but it seems like there must be an easier way?
Thanks in advance...  Still getting the hang of multi-track recording in Audition!

Sorry to necro this thread, but in case anyone is looking for these sorts of solutions again it may be useful to share my own method(s). I am often faced with this process, and will do the splitting process before I do anything else, this is important for me so I can keep the original files untouched. I am assuming you already have the base multi-track session open and tracks set up. This should work for most version of AA but instructions are based on CS6 (I have CEP, AA3 and CS6 on my machine).
    Method A:
    1. Select the time the excerpt you want covers.
    2. Go to File>Export>Multitrack Mixdown (or right click on the selection and choose Export>Time selection)
    3. Select the format you want your tracks to be in - you can leave this as is to use the same as source, or convert to 48k-24bit for DVD or 44k-24bit for CD at this point (the earlier the better). This will be the same as the new session you will create later. Make a new folder for the session audio somewhere and choose that as the destination.
    4. Select the Mixdown options [Change] and check each track individually, you can uncheck the master track unless you also want a reference track.
    5. Ok all this and wait for export to finish.
    6. File>New multitrack session, then create a new session in the folder you created when exporting the audio.
    7. Drag and drop the exported tracks to the new session.
    8. Finished.
    Method B:
    1. Create a new session, keeping the original open, make sure the original is the active document.
    2. Select the time the excerpt you want covers.
    3. Press CTRL-A to select all clips
    4. Edit>Copy, flick to new session, Edit>Paste.
    5. This creates only the time selections cut out from the ORIGNAL clips, we need to make unique ones, so...
    6. You now have, non-unique copies of the whole tracks (the session is referencing the original files), so you need to double click each wave and trim them and make them unique. Once in waveform view, right-click>select current view time then right-click>Copy to new.
    7. repeat 6 for each clip, delete the existing clips and drag the new trimmed clips from the files panel tab to the session.
    8. finished.
Method A is better for large sessions, but B can be quicker when you just have a couple of tracks and your originals aren't huge.
I'd love a Copy time selection to new session feature that also make new clips...
