Cutting videos with Quicktime

I can play most video files using Quicktime but I can't always cut them. When I play mpeg files the commands for cut, copy, delete and paste are not in bold--in other words, they are not available. Can anyone help?

QuickTime Pro has never edited muxed track files. It can't export the audio and any "edit" retains all the data of the source file.
MPEG is a playback format and is not designed to be edited. Find some third party software that can convert your MPEG files into QT formats for proper editing.

    Hi Tim ..
    Reinstall Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard
Then restart your Mac. Try Safari.
If it crashes again, uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Quit then relaunch Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info.
If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • Can I cut & past MOV videos with QuickTime Pro ?

I have a couple of DigiCam Quicktime MOV videos which I want to cut & paste.
Is this possible with a QuickTime Pro installation (under WinXP) ?
Is there any other alternative software which let me do such simple tasks with Quicktime MOV videos?
    Peter

    Yes.
QuickTime Player Pro allows editing of nearly any format it can "play". MPEG-1 can be viewed but not edited.

  • Where did the 'rough cut' videos with Danny go??

    Hi!
I started learning muse a couple of weeks ago with Danny's 'rough cut' videos - they were excellent - clear, simple + arranged in the order you would use to design a basic web site from start to finish. Your other videos don't do this. Also, she used QT, not flash, which was great - I watched the videos on my iPad while I worked on my laptop.
Please tell me that they're still somewhere on your site, or that I can download them.
    Thanks!

    Hi Anne,
I think you'll like the archive of Jam Sessions that Dani hosts: http://www.adobekb.com/events.html#past

  • How do I Capture Streaming video with Quicktime Pro?

In Lamonts post about converting video for the iPod, it was pointed out that one can capture streaming video (Steve Jobs Keynote speech for instance), with Quicktime Pro. I have QT7.04 Pro, but don't know how to do this simple thing. Can someone please tell me?
    Smartmart

it's possible. i did it myself, after a few tryouts.
i still can't get the best result, but i got something.
first of all you have to save the streaming file(thru the save as qt movie, from CTRL-click). when you get a stream it gets cached on your computer. you might playback it even when offline. so if all that you need is a simple playback, that's ok. but it's a cache, sometime the system will erase it from your HD.
if you want to keep it as a qt file(or any other format) thats this is the deal. when you save the stream file, it saves a reference file(4kb) that reads the cache. you cannot recover them from the cache, not even by changing the termination, because the qt player won't recognize the .qtch files transformed into .mov.
open the file(reference you saved before), choose export from the file menu, and choose the setting that you want. i still don't get a good quality(i know it's incredible that a stream file has a better quality...) and i still have to export the video separated from the audio. but if you need only the moving image to edit a homevideo, and your only source is a stream, it's a start.
so if anyone feel like growing the knowledge tree, let's go ahead.

  • Trouble viewing streaming video with Quicktime

This is a problem I have no encountered before, and I am hoping someone has an idea, because I'm fresh out.
A user has to take a class that involves her logging into a webiste with her own unique ID, and watching a video before it will allow her to take a test. It is a quicktime streaming video. When she attempts to watch the video, all she gets is a large quicktime symbol with a bar going back and forth under it, as though it were loading, but it never loads. Here comes the odd part. We had another user log into the website ont the same computer and she was able to watch the video just fine. We then had the original user try to watch on a different computer, and she was still not able to watch, though another user was able to watch the video with their own login on that computer as well. We believe it is a problem with her account on that website, but I am just curious if quicktime has any quirks that might cause this? Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

I cannot imagine that the problem is due to QuickTime or any other fault on the computer. If it were, it's highly likely that all users logging in from that same computer would have the same problem, and the problem would not be moving with that user to other computers.
I think it's almost certainly something amiss with your user's account on your server.
    Regards.

  • HT2240 CAN I EDIT AND TAKE PIECES OF THE VIDEO OUT OF THE VIDEO WITH QUICKTIME?

I want to edit a video and take out portions I do not want there for a video post. How do I edit out (trim) out bits I do not want and then save the new video?

These steps assume you've got the Pro version of QuickTime Player 7 for Windows:
Open the file you wish to edit and move the playhead (you can slide it and use the right/left arrow keys to adjust) to the first frame of the video you want to remove.
Use the letter i key to create an "in point". You'll see a small marker at the bottom of the timeline noting your place in the file.
Adjust the playhead to the last frame you wish to edit and use the letter o key to set an "out point". You'll see another marker and the edit area is highlighted in the timeline. This is known as a "Selection".
From the Edit menu you can "Cut" or "Delete" this selection.
Repeat those steps until you've removed what you want from the original file.
File menu and choose "Save As". Pick a save location and give the file a new (different) name.
Done. Your original file is left untouched by those edits.

  • Downloading Youtube videos with Quicktime 7 Pro?

I'm considering downloading Quicktime Pro 7 for my MacBook. On the Apple website, it says that I can use Quicktime Pro 7 to download videos from the internet. Will this work with Youtube? Thanks.

    No.

  • Error when trying to save still image from video with Quicktime Pro

I just purchased Quicktime Pro so that I can use it with my new Nano (the one that shoots video). I want to grab a frame from the video and create a still image (in jpeg format). I should be able to do it, but when I try, I get an error 11005 (or something like that). Anyone know any way to fix this? Thanks!

I also tried the alt/ctrl/shift buttons when clicking Editor in the Photoshop welcome screen. It did ask if I wanted to reset the preferences. I chose yes. I still get the same error message when trying to save for web.
Below....showing I don't have a "save for web" folder on my C drive.
And below, showing the same error after pressing alt/shift/ctrl when clicking on editor and clearing the preferences.
I don't have a 'Save for Web' folder anywhere on my C: drive. I searched and came up with no folder with the text "save for web" in it.
I did find a "save for web" folder on my D: drive and deleted that.. but now when I start up Photoshop, the option for Save for Web is grayed out...not able to select it.

  • When i export my video with quicktime, it then has no sound. why?

i make youtube videos, so exporting with sound is very important to me. this just starting happening tonight (june 26th) please help because i am getting very aggravated. thank you!

QuickTime Pro can't extract audio from muxed file formats (MPEG 1 or 2 and Flash).
    MPEG Streamclip (free) can.

  • Extracting Audio from Video With QuickTime Pro?

I read on another discussion board that QuickTime Pro could record/extract audio only from a video file. So I purchased the QuickTime Pro upgrade today (for Windows XP) but can't seem to find out how to do it, assumimg that post was correct and it can be done at all.
The Nero video editing software I use can get the video file in MPEG-2, MPEG-1, AVI and other formats. I tried MPEG-1, but even the conversion to QuickTime's .mov format came up with no audio at all. I noticed a post here saying that was a limitation of the software. I could purchase the QuickTime MPEG-2 add-on but that seems to only allow playback and doesn't look like it will help any.
Another post on the other discussion board said that virtualdub.org has a software program that could do this extraction, but silly me I went with Apple and was delighted to read about the no refund policy just now. :-/
I'm guessing another possible approach is some kind of hardware solution -- a recording device of some sort?

In order to extract a track (video or audio) the file first must have those as independent tracks.
MPEG 1 and 2 are "muxed" (video and audio in the same track) so QuickTime Pro has nothing to extract.
MPEG Streamclip (free) can convert .mpg and .mpeg files to QuickTime formats.
If you export from Nero as .avi you can also use QuickTime Pro to extract tracks as it will have at least two.
MPEG 1 and 2 are playback formats and are not intended to be edited.

  • Capturing Screen Video with Quicktime Screen Recording

I've just found that Quicktime can record everything on the screen. This is very useful as I want to produce some training videos that are based on web-browsing. The problem is that I want to be able to zoom in on parts of the screen and I saw elsewhere a trick that invloved using Universal Access to Zoom in with either the mouse wheel or Keyboard. The problem is that these zooms don't appear to be recorded in Quicktime. Is that correct, or am I missing something?
    many thanks

    captfred--
Can you help with this from an Oct 2010 post?  I'm having the same trouble in OS 10.6.8--random dropouts in QT Screen Recordings using QT Player 10.0 (131).  The original poster said the problem only happens when recording sound, but I need sound.  If you can help, please email me at blockard @@ iname . com.  Thanks!
"Sometimes it records fine and I end up with a full recording, sometimes the middle is gone, sometimes just the end. The file size doesn't seem to matter; I have some good recordings that are nearly 500MB, and some that failed when they are only 30MB (and I have well over 300GB free)."

  • Recording videos with QuickTime

Is there any way to record videos other than from a video camera, using QuickTime Player Version 7.1.3? I want to record videos already saved on my computer, but when opening a new recorder it says that no recording device is found. Is there any way to switch to an internal recording device?

QuickTime Pro "New Video Recording" requires a Firewire connected camera.
What you are trying to do is record what plays on your screen:

  • Saving Videos With QuickTime Pro

I recently brought QuickTime Pro so I could save videos I wanted, and put them on my iPod. I'm having troubles doing this. Can someone please help?!?

Sometimes when you tap the download link in Safari yu can download and save the video. The GoodReader app allows you to download via entering the download URL. You can copy the URL from Safri and paste in GoodReader.
