D-Link DI-624 WEP wont connect to my iMac

When i start up my iMac, I login and then I click on the airport icon and turn it on. Then, I click open network preferences. Then i click on the drop-down and select Join Other Network. In that window, I type the network name, select the security which is WEB 40/128-bit HEX. I then type in the correct code, and it says "See Administrator". Do I have to type something special in or what. Im new to Macs!

It's good you know the router address. Are you saying that your PC isn't connecting to the router's 192.168.0.1 address? Or your MBP?
I was suggesting connecting to the 192.168.x.x address with your PC so you can manipulate the settings.
Try from your PC, and change the encryption to WPA (which means as soon as you make this change, your PC will need to be updated with the WPA pass phrase). Macs tend to work better with non-WEP encryption IIRC.
EDIT: BTW - I use WPA-PSK [TKIP] for my encryption

My iMac cannot connect to my TP-LINK TD-W8970 router even though all other computers can. I get the message "No configured AirPort base stations have been found" and "No PPPoE configurations were found". Any ideas please?

Open the Network pane in System Preferences. If there's a closed padlock icon in the lower left corner, click it and enter your administrator login password when prompted.
At the bottom of the service list on the left is a popup menu with a gear icon. From that menu, select
              Set Service Order...
A sheet will drop down showing all listed services. Drag the one that you want to use to connect to the Internet to the top of the list. Click OK to close the sheet, then close the preference pane and confirm when prompted to save the change.

  • My phone wont connect to my imac via usb

I have a 2010 imac & an iphone 5s. When I connect my phone to my computer via usb, nothing happens. If I use the same cable with a wall charger, phone charges as normal. If I connect to my work mac, phone will charge and sync as normal (but being work, I don't back up to their machines). I've tried all 4 usb ports on my computer, same null result. USB works normally for everything else, including charging & syncing an old ipod. If I use a non-Apple approved cheapo cable, it simply tells me that the cable will be unreliable, but still will not sync or charge over this unreliable cable. Cheapo cable works fine at work & with wall charger. PRAM was reset as normal Apple SOP. Suggestions?

Yup...everything is up-to-date, still nothing. It's weird because every component works normally in every other situation. I only have the 2 usb/thunderbolt cable, but they don't exhibit an error in any other situation.

ipad will not connect to imac via bluetooth.  after sending file to ipad it says the ipad doesnt have the services.

  • Airport extreme wont connect to my d-link DI-624 router--WHY!?!?

OK-- i have a d-link DI-624 wireless router hooked up to my ethernet router on my imac g4/ 800mhz gooseneck. i have a mac book pro with airport extreme-- when i set up a closed network with WEP i could log in the password, get a strong signal and connect via the airport card but when i tried to open safari, it said i wasn't connected to the internet. when i made it an open network, no problem. why can i join the closed network, get a signal, but not connect to the internet.
i tried the network setup assistant but no luck. any ideas? i am new to wireless routers so any suggestions as to why this is happening and how to solve would be greatly appreciated!

...when i set up a closed
    network...
Don't do that. Disabling the broadcast of the SSID
(network name) may make you feel secure but it is a
false sense of security. The network name is still
    broadcast and easily detected.
Why do you have 2 routers? Why not replace your
"ethernet router" with the DI-624? It will support
    both Ethernet and wireless clients.
So are you saying I should just leave the network open? I don't mind sharing my wi-fi connection but I want my computers to be secure. I set it up to have WEP so I could share with friends. I still don't understand why my airport card in my macbook pro will pick up the open network but not the closed (even though i can log the WEP and it shows maximum signal strength).
Will the settings on OS X Tiger's firewall be the most effective or do i need to configure the wireless router's firewall as well?
I am a newbie to wireless routers and to answer your question about two routers, I was following what the directions from the DI-624 manual said to do. What you are saying makes total sense in that respect.

  • Printer wont connect when wep password enabled

Hi. I've had a HP Deskjet 5850 for many years. It worked perfectly with my D-Link wifi router, it connected wirelessly with no issues. I recently bought an airport extreme, I've reset everything on the printer and it works via ethernet, but it only works via wifi when airport is set for wireless security is set to none. If I assign a password of any sort it won't connect.
In the printer's admin webpage I've set and reset it for a wep password and it wont connect. Does anyone know if this printer is compatible with airports wep password protection?
    Thanks!

I created a WEP password, this is what the printer supports. However, even my MacBook had issues logging in with WEP, it would get bumped off the network and then could only log into the my airport extreme's wireless network after a restart... and then it would get bumped off again. So I switched the airport to WPA/WPA2 password and the macbook works fine now, and the connection is faster than it was with a WEP password. Does the AirPort have known issues with WEP?
    Thanks!

  • Unable to connect to D-Link DI-624 (ver.C) using iBook G4

This question is on behalf of my friend. I tried to get her iBook G4 onto the D-Link DI-624 Wireless network but was unable to access the internet. Wired is fine though. The router is setup with WEP 40bit ASCII passphrase and is broadcasting the SSID, but for some reason as soon as the iBook's Network DHCP grabs a valid IP address, the wireless connection is lost (ie. antenna dims). Additionally, when the iBook momentarily connects to the wireless network, her Windows PC's lose network connection, then vice-versa. I found this to be very strange, and have never come across this problem before with any other router. Any ideas?
Here's her configs from what I remember:
    - WEP 40bit ASCII
    - Channel 6
    - Router is using DHCP
    - 1 Wintel machine hard-wired
    - 2 Wintel machines using wireless
    - iBook G4 can access any other router perfectly fine (ie. Library, School, Coffee Shops, etc)
Thanks in advance for any help.

I expect you may have figured this out by now...but in case you didn't I had a similar problem getting by iBook back on a DI-624 wireless network.
After much grinding of teeth what ended up working was "simply" resetting the network connection within the iBook's System Preference/Network.
So this is what it finally took me to get back on: I actually reconnected directly to the broadband modem (ethernet) first in order to updated to OS 10.4.4. There are some improvements within security and wireless connections and its been mentioned by a number of others in the discussion groups. There are certainly those who feel the update has created problems but I know plenty of folks who are using it and haven't had any issues.
From the sounds of it you probably know how to reset your iBook network preferences. I also turned off WEP (as suggested by DI-Link) just to make sure I could get the connection back. I also reset the DI-624 to my configuration, which is easy to do within your browser (if you don't have your quick start manual you can get on line from DLink). I then re-configured the iBook's network preferences again to make ApplePort as the priority connection and shut down the laptop.
Powered off the broadband modem for at least a couple of minutes. Powered down the DI-624 for a minute or so and then back on. Powered up the modem. When the modem recycling was completed I powered up the laptop.
At that point the reconnection to the network was back. After I reconnected wirelessly I went back in and reset the WEP. I shut down the laptop, powered down the modem again and back on after a couple of minutes. It seems like a unnessary step but in previous experience recycling the broadband connection got everything working in sync. Powered up the iBook and everythings back to working....knock on wood. It's been working fine for the past couple of weeks without a hitch (or hick-up)

  • Cannot connect from WinXP via D-LINK DI-624 to Airport Express

Had Verizon FIoS installed yesterday which came with a D-LINK DI-624 Wireless Router. Before this I had a Linksys WRT54G. With the Linksys configuration, I was able to update my Airport Express (2 of them) and able to connect ITunes to play music.
With the D-LINK, I use the same procedure to update the AX, but it will still does not connect. I have updated the firmware in the AX to 6.3 and updated Airport ADMIN to 4.2.
Just looking for some help to get the AX configured correctly.

With the D-LINK, I use the same procedure to update
the AX, but it will still does not connect. I have
updated the firmware in the AX to 6.3 and updated
    Airport ADMIN to 4.2.
    Are you using WEP?
Even with what seems to be the same password, you may find that the HEX key has in fact changed.
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

  • Problems connecting my Powerbook G4 to a D-Link DI 624 access point

I am unable to connect my Powerbook G4 to my D-Link DI 624 wireless router.
    Here's my setup:
128 bit (HEX) WEP Encryption (Key Index 4)
    MAC Filtering
    "Static" DHCP
    Here's what i've done:
Added the Powerbook's on board ethernet and wireless MAC's to the MAC Filter's table
Assigned both adapters a static IP
Configured both to look at my router's IP
Copied the HEX key (verbatim) while configuring the wireless adapter
Here's the skinny... The onboard NIC works. The wireless does not.
Please tell me what i'm doing wrong. I know it's my router's configuration because I successfully connected to a friends router without any problmes.
They are using a Linksys with DHCP and encryption.
I tried changing my setting on my router to resemble my firends to no avail. I resorted in restoring my router's config from backup.
I'm a PC Tech/ Network Engineer who is treading in new territory with my G4. So far i'm wondering what in the **** took me so long to convert! However, i'm glad that I did.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND HAVE ANY INSIGHT ON MY SITUATION, PLEASE HELP!!!

You certinly have me mystified. I have a D-Link DL624 wireless router. I plugged my dsl modem into it, plugged it in to the wall, opened the lid of my powerbook, and it connected. I just thought it was supposed to be that easy!
    Sorry I wasn't much help

  • Imac and d-link wont connect

    hi all...
i have trouble trying to connect my mac to my d-link wireless router. it will connect when my network is unsecured but when i enable wep encryption, it wont connect. =[ when i try connecting, it asks for my password, i enter it and says there was an error and wont connect.
    any thoughts???

Try not using WEP and use WPA2 instead. It's more secure and more compatible. Also, check the DLink web site for any possible firmware updates for you router.
Note that if you must use WEP that all passwords must be preceded with a "$" sign. See the section on third-party routers in this article.

  • Blackberry link wont connect to my z10

I tried to connect my z10 to blackberry link so I could transfer music and pictures.
It has an error message and wont connect unless I restore my entire device to factory settings...
I spent all day getting the phone running and personalized, I don't want to have to restore it all back...
Is there a way around this?
    Thanks.

I have the same problem, here is a screen shot. It makes no sense. I hooked my Z10 up to computer and it appeared a a CD which it is suppose to. I installed link and this is what happened right from the get go. There has to be a way to fix this without restoring.
