  • Data Execution Prevention ( DEP ) WINDOWS IE8

    HI
I AM GEETING ERROR Data Execution Prevention ( DEP ) WHILE USING FORMS APPLICATION IN IE8 BROWSER .
IF I DISABLE DEP SETTING IN BOOT.INI IT WORKS....MY PROBLEM WITHOUT DISABLEING DEP HOW FORM APPLICATION CAN WORK..???
    IS THERE ANY WAY ?
    THANKS AND REGDS
    SANTOSH

First, it is important to understand that this issue has nothing to do with Oracle and specifically Forms. This is a security mechanism in the OS/browser.
You do not need to edit the boot.ini to disable DEP. You can change it as follows:
Right click My Computer > Advanced > Performance Settings... > Data Execution Prevention
Click on the radio button labeled "*Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only*". Click on OK to accept the changes (if any).
The alternative, if you want DEP on for ALL programs and services, you will need to add javaw.exe to the exception list.
There have been reports which suggest that if you disable (uncheck) the browser setting "Enable third-party extensions" you may also get it working. I would not rely on this option. Disabling DEP is the correct way to deal with this since it is DEP causing the problem in the first place.

  • Data Execution Prevention (DEP) Message - Please Help!!

I have been trying to download iTunes since yesterday. I finally completed the download this morning and was beginning to install in onto my PC, when I received a Data Execution Prevention(DEP) Message. Because of this, I was unable to complete the installation process, and now it appears I have hit a roadblock. My son is desperately wanting to use his iPod, but I am at a complete loss as to what to do next. If anyone has ever encountered this problem and can tell me how to proceed, my son and I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much.

Can you do the repair for iTunes as well and see whether you are still getting the message.
If that does not work, you have to follow steps below to uninstall and reinstall Itunes & QuickTime.
Step 1: Uninstall iTunes and QuickTime
I would suggest you to completely uninstall iTunes and QuickTime from your computer without leaving any traces of these programs on your computer. Also, uninstall any third party codecs(like K-Lite Codec) installed on your computer using the Programs and Features wizard from the Control Panel.
Removing iTunes, QuickTime and other software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
Note: The link above also have instructions to re-install iTunes and QuickTime. Do not re-install it as of now.
Step 2: Download and install the latest version of iTunes
    www.apple.com/itunes/download
Step 3: Uninstall QuickTime from Programs and Features
Once you install iTunes, by default you'll have QuickTime installed on your computer. You'll have to uninstall QuickTime from Programs and features.
How to uninstall a program in Windows Vista Programs and Features?
Step 4: Download and install the Standalone version of QuickTime

Now check if you’re able to execute iTunes without having any problem.

  • Data Execution Prevention (DEP) has not allowed firefox to start, even after reinstalling firefox

Firefox will not start. Windows message tells me Data Execution Prevention (DEP)has prevented this program from starting. Help says: If DEP notices a program on your computer using memory incorrectly, it closes the program and notifies you.

Try updating your QuickTime to the most recent version. Does that clear up the DEP errors in iTunes?

  • Data Execution Prevention (DEP) error

Today I downloaded the latest iTunes version, but I can't get it to open. I continue to get a Windows message stating that iTunes has been closed to "protect my computer" via DEP. I unintalled both iTunes and Quicktime, reinstalled iTunes, cleared old Quicktime from the System32 folder, changed the DEP settings to allow iTunes, and have re-booted at least 20 times today. What am I supposed to do to get my iTunes back?

After NUMEROUS times, I finally found a solution that worked for me.  I hope it will help someone else.  I found this after I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, and all other Apple related files and folders many times.  Every time I installed iTunes 10.5, I still got the DEP error.  This is the soloution I found, although it is not a perfect solution, it's at least working until Apple comes out with a version of iTunes that will not trigger the DEP error.
Here is what I did: I used Uninstall Program in the Windows Control Panel to uninstall everything IN THIS ORDER
    1. iTunes
    2. QuickTime
    3. Apple Software Update
    4. Apple Mobile Device Support
    5. Bonjour
    6. Apple Application Support
Then I went to C:\Program Files and looked for any iTunes or Apple program listed there and deleted it.  I have 64-bit, so I then went to C:\Program files (x86) and looked for any iTunes, QuickTime, Bonjour or any other file or folder that had Apple or any Apple program in the name and deleted it.
I went to C:\Windows|SysWOW64\Quicktime and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuicktimeVR and deleted them.
Go back to START, and open the "C" drive. Open the USERS folder. Open the folder with your username. Open the AppData folder. Then double-click on the LOCAL folder to open it. If you see any files or folders there that show any Apple program or file, delete those files or folders. Then go to the REMOTE folder and do the same. If there are any other users on this computer, go to each individual user and do the same thing in each LOCAL and REMOTE folder. Restart your computer.
Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ This is the page where you will actually download iTunes. Scroll down the page to the section under "Windows Software" that says "64-bit editions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 require the iTunes 64-bit installer". Click on that line to get the installer. It will take you to another download window. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the message that says "Download for iTunes 10.4.1 for Windows (64-bit) here: iTunes for Windows 64-bit." Click there to get the download.
This is not iTunes 10.5, so you will not have access to "The Cloud", but it is at least functional until Apple actually comes out with a version that will not activate the DEP message. There was no combination of uninstalling and reinstalling, with or without Quicktime, with 10.5 that did not cause problems with Data Execution Prevention problems, that I found.
I also used Firefox for the downloading instead of Internet Explorer. It just seemed to function better that way.  I have Windows Vista Home.
I hope this is helpful to someone. It's just what worked for me.

  • Unable to open Itunes in Vista - data execution prevention (DEP)

I'm unable to open itunes on my computer. I can install it but not open it. It says that the data execution prevention has stopped the running of the program. I have tried to change the settings of the data execution program, but it will not allow me to accept itunes - as it says that DEP has to be activated for itunes and cannot be deactivated. What do I do?

One temporary solution is to run itunes through XP rather than vista.
To do this go to the program icon (makes sure its not a shortcut, and the actual program icon, you can find this in your program files if its on on your desktop)
    sideclick on the icon
    go to properties
    compatibility tab
check Windows XP service pack 2
    tell it to apply
This should allow you to use itunes

  • Reader 10.1.3 shuts down when I open it or open a web page (IE 9), Data Execution Prevention DEP

I am running Microsoft Vista. I've have the latest Adobe Reader 10.1.3. When I try to open Aobe Reader or when I try to open a pdf file through my browser (IE 9), I receive a message stating that Adobe Reader has stopped working and the Data Execution Program has closed Adobe Reader to protect the computer.
I scanned my computer for malware and viruses and it is clean. I tried disabling all browser add-ons and I still have the problem. It appears that this is a common proble listed in the Adobe and Microsoft forums and without a real solution (other than going back to using Adobe Reader 8 - which I haven't tried).
Does anyone have any tested solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Data Execution Prevention (DEP) - Can't open iTunes!! help!

As above, everytime I try and open iTunes a window appears saying DEP has closed the programme to prevent my computer being damaged. I've run all the clearing exercises of iTunes and Quicktime and re-installed it but to no avail. This has only happened after I upgraded iTunes recently. I am using Vista and I have tried allowing iTunes in the DEP control panel however it says DEP must be working in order to execute this programme.
Please can someone help me out!! I don't want to have to system restore!

Have you downloaded and installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1 yet?
This may assist you with that you are running into. If you have already done this let me know. Could still potentially be something going on with the Apple Software.
If this is the case the link below describes how to fully clean out Apple Software. Possible file that belongs to Apple may of become corrupted and thus causing iTunes not to launch Properly.
But before you check the article out. Have you right clicked on the iTunes Application and chose Run as Administrator?
You can also right click on the iTunes App, Select Properties, and select Compatibility Mode - And make sure that is not turned on and set for something else. As this could potentially be running in a different mode.

  • Does Apple have a Data Execution Prevention (DEP) compatible version of iTunes for Vista?

I have followed instructions found on the Apple Support boards for the past 3 days regarding  the fact that DEP will not allow the iTunes updates to operate on Windows Vista.  I wish I had a dollar for every time I have uninstalled adn reinstalled iTunes, only to get the same results.  It instally correctly, but will not open.  It gets shut down by DEP every time.  YOU CAN'T TURN OFF DEP FOR iTUNES IN VISTA!!!  I don't care what the instructions from Apple and Microsoft say, it can't be done.
So, does anybody know if Apple has a version of the iTunes that is compatible with DEP?  Or, are that hopefully at least working on one?  My iPhone and iPod are useless.

  • Data Execution Prevention (DEP)

Has anyone run into DEP in IE?  I have and it terminates my application when tryting to close external SWFs, but it doesn't always do it, but it is becoming more frequent.
New Info:  I just read that this can happen with the HTTP service.  I load the menu items from an external XML file via the HTTPService.  Wondering if I should just use an array?

You're welcome. Glad you got things sorted out.

  • How do I keep Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) from repeatedly closing Firefox?

Problem started after I installed the last Firefox update. I will be on line then Firefox is shut down and I get a message in a small window that it was shut down Windows DEP which is a security feature in Vista. After a time lapse of several minutes and a reboot of the computer Firefox will start working again but eventually it is shut down again after executing an enter, send, delete or other such command.

    Vista 64 bit
Many thanks. If you're still not launching after your complete uninstall/reinstall, we'll go searching for old QuickTime componentry stashed in non-standard locations on the PC.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Paradox concerning DEP (Data Execution Prevention) when opening LabVIEW

When I try to launch LabVIEW, DEP (Data Execution Prevention) prevents me from opening it. I have followed instructions and attempted to make an exception for LabVIEW, but I get a message saying the following:
"This program must run with data execution protection (DEP) enabled.
You cannot turn off DEP for this program."
It seems that I need this "DEP" program to run LabVIEW, but at the same time it is keeping me from running it. Help would be very much apprecaited.
    Thanks in advance!
    Cailin

    Hello Cailin,
The Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature included in
modern Microsoft Windows operating systems that is intended to prevent
malicious code from running on the system.
Here are two methods to fixing this problem:
    Method 1:
Follow these steps to add an exception for the program from the DEP error message:
When you receive the error message click Change Settings.
Select the check box next to the program, and then click Apply.
When you are prompted to restart your computer, click OK two times, and then restart your system.
    Method 2:
You can also add an exception for the program by using System Properties in Control Panel. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
Click the Advanced tab, click Performance, and then click Settings.
In Performance Options, click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Add.
In the Open dialog box, locate and then click the program.
Click Open, click Apply, and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click OK.

  • Data Execution Prevention preventing iTunes from working

I have iTunes 8.0.2.20 running on Windows Server 2008 SP1. Whenever I plug in my iPod Nano, Data Execution Prevention (DEP) shuts down iTunes. I can't create an exception for iTunes in DEP since it gives the following error message:
+"This program must run with data execution protection (DEP) enabled. You cannot turn off DEP for this program."+
Any ideas on what might be causing this issue?

No, i do not have quickTime player.
I have tried to close dep off for iTunes but failed to do so as i got a msg that iTunes can't work without Dep in execution data prevention.
