Data left behind after scripted imaging

I know this sounds a little weird, but sometimes after one of my techs runs one of the scripts we use stuff is left behind on the workstation (games, or media players that are not part of the image - but not everything). You can actually watch the image process and complete ok and restart the computer - it even goes though the post imaging stuff prior to login. Here is an example of one of the 2 scripts doing this sometimes -
dd if=/bin/mbr.mbr of=/dev/hda
dd if=/bin/mbr.mbr of=/dev/sda
img pd1
img pd2
img pd3
img pd4
img pc1 ntfs
img rp $PROXYADDR //$PROXYADDR/zen/images/imagename.zmg a1:p1
img pa1
reboot -f
It's happening on XP and 2000 latest updates on both, were currently running Zfd version 6.5.2. Has anyone seen this, or do you see any reason with this script that this would happen?? It works normally if you go though imaging w/o the scripts.
Thanks for any clues!!
Dennis

Dennis,
I had the exact same issue after updating from ZEN4 to ZEN7. The solution
for it was to change the command from:
img rp $PROXYADDR //$PROXYADDR/zen/images/imagename.zmg a1:p1
to:
img restorep $PROXYADDR //$PROXYADDR/zen/images/imagename.zmg a1:p1
That was the solution to my problem.
Hope this one helps for u

  • C:\_SmsTsWinPE folder left behind after the OSD TS completes

    A strange issue. I am testing a newly created 64-bit Windows 7 build process. Everything seems to run ok but I can find C:\_SmsTsWinPE folder remaining on the machine and is tightly ACL-ed.
    Has anybody encountered this before?
    smsts.log does show a few errors/warning which are as below but doesn't look like directly related to the problem I have facing:

    Looks like the initial log may have been overwritten and below is what I could collect ( i.e. after redundant "deleting setting..." entries are removed to keep the log short)

  • "Data Left Behind" Does Safari 4 Final resolve this issue from the Beta?

    Sorry for the possibly annoying duplication. I'm making this a separate post, since it's a different topic entirely. Was already included in
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9587144#9587144
    Does anyone know if these issues, where 4 in the Beta was leaving behind a lot of MBs, all over the OS, from sites visited, have been fixed in the Final?

    One excerpt:
    ... Safari does not delete the webpage previews it generates for QuickLook. Ever.'

    Hi
    Usually these non-starter situations are due to incompatible add-ons. As it does not affect the Guest Account, then the add-on would be installed in your regular user account.
    Via the Finder: have a look in these locations:
    Your User Account>Library:
    InputManagers folder
    Applications Support>SIMB>Plugins folder
    If anything is found in either location (note, you may not have a SIMBL folder in your system), move that plugin(s) to the desktop, then restart Safari.
    If Safari opens without issue, let me know the names of the plugins you moved to the Desktop.

  • How to avoid lines left behind after effects have been flattened in CS6?

    We work in a packaging environment using MAC OS 10.6.8 using Illustrator CS6.
    In order to ouput Illustrator files correctly through a RIP, we expand all effects (shadow, glows, etc) before converting them to a Hi Resolution PDF to impose for output.
    What we have started to see is lines starting to show up on the PDFs (and the Printing Plates too) where the bounding box of the effect used to be. We have seen lines show up in earler versions of Illustrator but not to the number or thickness they seem to be in CS6.
    Is there any way to avoid these lines from showing up (and being printed)?  What methods do other people use to get around this issue?
    Any suggestions would be most helpful.
    Many Thanks
    Andrew

    So we have been working through the above issue....
    Problem:
    1) This problem started because Illustrator Effects wont print through our RIP unless they are flattened first.
    2) The issue is further complicated by the fact that most of the effects involve spot colours (either directly or under the effect)
    3) The RIP will only read PDFs saved in PDF 1.3 (Acrobat 4). Yes, we have checked with the supplier and it IS up to date!
    4) When sending PDFs through our RIP from Illustrator CS6 we get white bounding boxes around spot color effects and keylines around CMYK objects.
    5) These line and boxes are visible on the PDF and print on the plate.
    Solution:
    1) Work the file in the usual manner then split the file into 2 (or more) layers. The top layer for elements/objects/type that have NO effect on it that you wish to remain in vector format (or that can be editable at a later date). The bottom layer for ALL other items with effects applied and any items that will be modified by above effects (items below shadows or glows etc).
    2) Save a PDF copy of the Bottom layer as PDF version 1.7 to maximise compatibility. Keep the other settings as you would normally use for Hi Res or custom output.
    3) Split you PDF in the CMYK and seperate Spot colours. (We used Prinect PDF Toolbox to remove unwanted colours).
    4) You will also need to convert all spot collours to a sigle process colour (ie we use Black) this can also be done through Prinect PDF Toolbox. If this is not done, the colour will split into CMYK at the next stage.
    5) Open all of you now modified PDF files in Photoshop (the CMYK with the Spot colours removed and the Spots with all the CMYK removed)
    6) Drag your spot files into the CMYK version (from the Layers Pallete). You will then need to duplicate the Black Channels and save them as Spot Channels (let me know if you need help to do this) then remove the original black layers.
    7) Save this new file as a Photoshop PSD file.
    8) Place this new PSD in the you Illustrator file in the same position as the layer that you originally saved as a PDF. You can now hide the original export layer.
    9) Output the File as a PDF 1.3 (Acrobat 4) in your usual Hi Res method. (We do this through InDesign so that we can include our custom Slug information).
    10) The RIP will now not have to process each of the Effects, just 1 single Photoshop PSD in the background of each file.
    I know this is more of a work-around than a solution the the problem... but it's the only thing we know of that guarentees a succsessful result every time.
    If anybody reading this knows of any other solutions, please let us know.
    Many thanks
    Andrew

  • After importing images from my card using LR 5.4, the GPS data does not show in the metadata panel. However, when I look at the imported images using Bridge, the GPS data is visible. Anybody know why LR is not seeing the GPS data? Camera is Canon 6D.

    After importing images from my card using LR 5.4, the GPS data does not show in the metadata panel. However, when I look at the imported images using Bridge, the GPS data is visible. Anybody know why LR is not seeing the GPS data? Camera is Canon 6D.

    Ok, the issue seem to be solved. The problem was this:
    The many hundred files (raw and xmp per image) have been downloaded by ftp in no specific order. Means - a couple of files in the download queue - both raw and xmps. Most of the time, the small xmp files have been finished loading first and hence the "last change date" of these xmp files was OLDER than the "last change date" of the raw file - Lightroom then seem to ignore the existence of the xmp file and does not read it during import.(a minute is enough to run into the problem)
    By simply using the ftp client in a way that all large raw files get downloaded first followed by the xmp files, we achieved that all "last changed dates" of the xmp files are NEWER than the related raw files. (at least not older)
    And then LR is reading them and all metadata information has been set / read correctly.
    So this is solved.

  • Shadow Instance Left Behind in SLD After Using SUM

    Hello,
    Is there a standard procedure for removing the SLD information left behind by the creation of shadow ABAP instances when using SUM to update or upgrade systems? Should SUM have some final step for this built in, or should the update instructions include a step to go into SLD and delete the shadow instance information manually?
    My situation is as follows. I recently updated the support package stack for my Solution Manager 7.1 system from sps4 to sps12 using SUM (this was for a new installation of Solution Manager). Afterwards, I used SOLMAN_SETUP to perform the System Preparation and Basic Configuration steps, and now I have progressed to Managed System Configuration. The first managed system to configure is Solution Manager itself, and in working on the SolMan ABAP instance, in step 6, 'Enter Landscape Parameters,' I noticed that there is an extra ABAP instance, DVEBMGS03, showing up as a landscape object node. I was puzzled for a bit about this, as there is no instance 03 in my SolMan system, only 00, 01, and 02. Eventually I figured out that SOLMAN_SETUP gets this landscape information from the obvious place, LMDB, which in turn gets it from SLD, and sure enough in LMDB and SLD I can find the "AppServer 03" instance defined.
    That's when the light bulb hit. SUM creates a shadow ABAP instance when updating the support package stack (unlike using SPAM), similar to as it does during an upgrade. It deletes the shadow instance at the end of the update, but in the meantime the system has synchronized itself to SLD, and now SLD has a definition for that shadow instance that doesn't go away when the instance is deleted.
    It's easy enough to manually delete it in SLD, of course, but that leads me to wonder if there's a preferred option for handling this other than manual manipulation of SLD data.
    The version of SUM I used was 1.0 sp11 pl9.
    Regards,
    Matt

    That's right, although for a support pack update, I'm not sure if the jobs even get suspended. In the past, when doing this with SPAM, there was no shadow instance to worry about, so it wasn't an issue. In upgrades, when there typically is a shadow instance, things are much more "shut down" in the system (jobs suspended, etc) than is often the case with support pack updates (though perhaps those should be just as much "shut down").
    So in future I will definitely keep an eye out for it. Stopping the data supplier should be added to the tool and/or listed as a manual step in the guide to prevent inconsistent landscape and software component data from being replicated (or perhaps it already is and I missed it). I'm going to tag Boris Rubarth to get his take on it, as he is a key player in the development and maintenance of the SUM tool.
    Deleting the extra instance in SLD was very easy, and I watched it replicate to LMDB very quickly, and it immediately disappeared upon refresh from the managed system configuration tool. However, it later showed up in diagnostics agent administration, as well, as a warning about a system path not being reachable by the agent (it was trying to reach \usr\sap\SID\DVEBMGS03, which doesn't exist), and so I had to edit the agent landscape paths to remove that as well).
    Although the problem is long since solved in my system, as described above, I will keep the question open for a few more hours to see what Boris or others may have to add.
    Regards,
    Matt

  • "Date Created" incorrect in Finder after copying image files from CF reader

    Whenever I download image files (by drag and drop copying) from a CF card reader, the 'Date Created' info incorrectly defaults to 'Dec 31, 1903' in the List view of the Finder window.
    'Date Created' shows up blank in the File Info window, too. Correct file info does however show up in the copied Meta Data.
    I've only been able to transfer correct 'Date Created' info by using Image Capture, which is pretty annoying.
    I've tried several cameras, CF cards, USB & FW card readers, and Macs running both Panther and Tiger. Same problem all around. Interestingly, files copy without a problem onto a PC.
    I'm a photographer and I need to sort my images by 'Date Created' because I often shoot with two cameras and need to know the chronological order in which photos were taken.
    Ideas anybody?

  • Getting rid of all the junk left behind from SL after upgraded to Lion

    I still seem to have a-lot of junk that was left behind from SL - I want to get rid of it all as I want to just start with Lion from fresh.
    Can someone tell me how to get rid of all the junk that SL left behind when I upgraded to Lion (like all the old plist files and all of that).  Also I seem to still have some of my SL settings in there as well.
    Ideally i would like to do a fresh install of Lion but I don't want to loose any of the stuff that came preinstalled on my computer (Like iLife and all of that) and since my NAS that I was using for Time Machine wont work on Lion there would be no way of backing up or restoring those.
    Thus I am left with just manually deleting all of the junk.
    Can someone give me some instruction on how I would go about doing that (like anyone that has already upgraded and then deleted all stuff SL leaves behind.)
    Thanks

    You can start with /Utilities/System Information > System Report > Applications and delete all PPC apps.
    Once you have your Apps cleaned up you could clone the system to another disk, do a clean install and just use Migrqtion Manager in Setup Assistant to migrate only Applications.

  • Uninstall Bootcamp, What's left behind?

    Okay I know this may sound weird but I'm wondering if anyone knows an answer to this. About 8 months ago I used the Boot Camp beta to run WinXP on my MacBook Pro 2,2. I ended up deciding I didn't want it and used the Boot Camp Assistant to remove it. All ways fine. I have since did an Erase and Install of Leopard, all is still fine. But I was messing around with rEFIt (never installing it) but I ran its Partition Inspector and got this:
    Current GPT partition table:
    # Start LBA End LBA Type
    1 40 409639 EFI System (FAT)
    2 409640 312319623 Mac OS X HFS+
    Current MBR partition table:
    # A Start LBA End LBA Type
    1 1 312581800 ee EFI Protective
    MBR contents:
    Boot Code: Unknown, but bootable
    Partition at LBA 40:
    Boot Code: None (Non-system disk message)
    File System: FAT32
    Listed in GPT as partition 1, type EFI System (FAT)
    Partition at LBA 409640:
    Boot Code: None
    File System: HFS Extended (HFS+)
    Listed in GPT as partition 2, type Mac OS X HFS+
    Whats up with these FAT and FAT32 partitions? Was something left over from Boot Camp and I've never realized it? I ran diskutil list in Terminal and got this:
    /dev/disk0
    #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
    0: GUIDpartitionscheme *149.1 Gi disk0
    1: EFI 200.0 Mi disk0s1
    2: Apple_HFS MacBook Pro 148.7 Gi disk0s2
    /dev/disk1
    #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
    0: Applepartitionscheme *297.5 Gi disk1
    1: Applepartitionmap 31.5 Ki disk1s1
    2: Apple_HFS rob 297.5 Gi disk1s2
    I don't see anything there mentioning FAT or FAT32 but EFI is there. By the way /dev/disk1 is my File Vault Disk Image, I know that.
    If I run rEFIT on a thumb drive, by holding down option on boot, my Mac of course asks to boot from my internal drive or the thumb drive running rEFIt, once rEFIt is loaded it asks to boot into my OSX partition or a Windows partition.... huh!? I thought it was gone! If I run it I get a usual looking white text on black screen saying there is nothing to boot to. So how is there any windows-type partition still there?
    So does anyone know? Is something left behind from those partitions that Boot Camp made that not even an Erase and Install of OS X Leopard got rid of? I know this is a little OSD of me, but I'm dying to know. And would love to know how to remove all traces of it. Thanks!

    No. Firefox keeps all session data (incl. cookies) in memory in PB mode and doesn't store any data on disk. Only the memory cache is used and not the disk cache (see the about:cache page).

  • Temp tables left behind by SDO_PC_PKG methods?

    I have a bunch of MDPCE tables after playing with SDO_PC_PKG last week.
    Are these temp tables left behind by SDO_PC_PKG methods? Is it safe to drop them?
    What circumstances could have left them behind, and why were they committed when the call to the PL/SQL method crashed the client program? (copy/paste error in my OCI code).

  • HT201210 I tried to do an update to the Ios 5 but it failed tried to restore my iphone however all im left with is an image of itunes with a usb connector please help as my phone will no longer work!!

    Hi I tried to do an update on my Iphone 4 hardware but it failed (dont knoyw why) I followed instructions to restore my Iphone unfortunatel all im left with is an image of itunes with a usb and a dead phone can someone help???

    Hey, I aggree with Tempelton for the most part, but if you are an advanced user on the computer on the phone, there is one thing you can try. There is a program called RecBoot, which might help you, and here is a page that might help you. http://jaxov.com/2010/05/recboot-iphone-recovery-mode/ If you are not an advanced user, I would NOT recomend using RecBoot, and just proceeding with the restore. A little consolation could be that you probably had Photo Stream on, and you might have been backing up to iCloud, which should mean you'll have some stuff after the resote. Sorry this happened!

  • How to load data into table Using Script Task

    We have a directory/folder where we have a file. We need to insert the File Created Date , File Name , Extension into the database table of Sql server by using Script Task.
    So could you please suggest , how to frame the connection string , fetch the file details and insert the data into the database table using Script Task of SSIS 2008

    You can achieve it as follows using standard script task
    1. Add a ForEachLoop container to point to your directory to iterate though the files. Add a variable of type string inside loop to get file name of each file it iterates. Choose option Filename and extension. Add a variable to just store extension part
    (FileExtension), set EValuateAsExpression true for it and give expression as below
    SUBSTRING(@[User::FileName],FINDSTRING(@[User::FileName],".",1)+1,LEN(@[User::FileName]))
    2. Add a script task inside loop and pass filename variable as a read only variable to it. Crete a new variable to get creationdate and pass it as ReadWrite. Inside write code as below
    Public Sub Main()
    ' Add your code here
    Dim f As New System.IO.FileInfo(Dts.Variables("FileName").Value.ToString())
    Dts.Variables("FileCreatedDate").Value = f.CreationTime
    Dts.TaskResult = ScriptResults.Success
    End Sub
    3. Add a Exec SQL Task after Script task inside loop and give a query like below
    INSERT INTO TableName (FileName,CreatedDate,Extension)
    VALUES(?,?,?)
    and in parameter tab map the parameter placeholders 0,1 and 2 to @[User::FileName],@[User::FileCreatedDate] & @[User::FileExtension] variables

  • Automatic Rename of workstation after re-imaging

    I am trying to determine why my laptops are not keeping their names or at least renaming themselves as a process of the ZEN Imaging we do with our students laptops. The re-image process and rebooting of the laptop after re-imaging works correctly. The only issue is that the laptop does not keep its name and reverts to the name within the image used. I have pasted in a section of the "imenu" we using in selecting the appropriate image.
    fi
    sleep 5
    img rp $PROXYADDR //$PROXYADDR/images/hsvostro1000.zmg ;
    zisedit Computername=$WSNAME ;
    echo -e " \033[31mRebooting computer! \033[0m" ; reboot -f ;;
    4 ) if [ -n "$(zisview ComputerName)" ]; then
    WSNAME=$(zisview ComputerName)
    else
    echo -e "No Safedata"
    while test ! $WSNAME; do
    echo -n "Please enter the workstation name:"
    read WSNAME;
    done
    I have even used this line after to replace my "original" zisedit command after reading a post in the forums that it worked on their Dell laptops. But it fails just like the script displayed above.
    zisedit ComputerName=$WSNAME$D$SN DNSHostName=$WSNAME$D$SN WindowsWorkgroup=$WSNAME DNSSuffix=usd376.com JustImaged=True ;
    Thanks in advance for your assistance!

    Yes, I found that. And I now have a good solution in place. Only thing, it'd be nice to be able to specify an Action (or at least an agent refresh) after pressing the Submit button of the CDF.
