  • Restoring after firmware update - Ways :)

    Hi All,
Nowadays we are receiving quite a few complaints that customers are unable to restore the application after updating their firmware.  I would like all to discuss to come up with some ways to restore their applications after firmware update.
    Before updating firmware
Customer can backup his phone using Nokia PC Suite's Content Copier application.
He can store his Contacts and Messages using Nokia Communication Centre as .csv file or .txt file.
For his Contacts he can sync with pc suite supported sync applications.
Messages he can store in Memory card and he can make a backup of memory card in PC.
If he is using Nokia PC Suite for his Multimedia items he can use Image Store if he is using Nokia PC Suite or Nokia Photos if he is using Nokia OVI Suite.
For Music he can use Nokia Music Manager or Nokia Music.
Once after updating his firmware, if he is unable to restore he can get those from above said applications.
If his calendar entries are not restored(as in case of some of Nokia e 71s and Nokia N 95/95 8 GBs), for God's sake if he has got one more similar device(or device having switch application on phone), he can restore the backup file to another phone having switch application, then he can transfer his data (Contacts, Calenders etc ) to his original phone
Dear Forum members, if you have got any other work around please let me know regarding the same, which will help our customers

    Hi,
If you have issue in Nokia PC Suites, [subject to your phone's compatibility with Nokia OVI Suite 2.0.0.10 ],
you can install Nokia OVI Suite 2.0.0.10 and check if you can take backup and restore it later.
Also i would suggest to use USB for taking backup, since it will be faster than Bluetooth.  Also you can select one category at one time(say backup contacts alone, then Calendar, then messages etc and so on ....)
Its better to skip memory card backup while backup-ing other Phone data for faster backup.  Memory card backup can be done separtely(since it wont be affetcted while updating firmware, users can safely remove memory card while updating firmware)
Nowadays though recent phones has got UDP(User Data Prevention i.e., even if you update your phone's firmware, your data wont get erased ), still it is recommended to backup your phone data.
    Hope this could help
I welcome our experts to add more details related to this topic.

  • Problems after firmware update 52.0.007

    Hi,
I got my phone back after the shop fixed a problem and updated the firmware to the latest version 52.0.007.
But now I have following problems:
I can't get the calendar anymore to show up on the homescreen, even after checking the checkbox to do so
    The Radio app. is gone
Does anyone has a solution for this?
    Iwan

It may sound crazy but sometimes you need to "hard reset" device after firmware update (beware all data erased) by keying in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by yourself). Sometimes UDP = User Data Prersevation feature of 5800XM can carry over corrupt entries when updating.

  • Ovi Maps 3 don´t start after firmware update (6220...

    Hello!
a few days ago I installed ovi maps 3 on my nokia 6220c and it works well. Later I updated the firmware from version 03.06 to 05.15.
After firmware update ovi maps don´t start-> "Cannot open application. Install latest version from nokia.com/maps."
But Nokia Map Updater says, there are no updates for my maps.
    What´s wrong?
Can I reinstall Ovi Maps 3? Or is it possible to install Ovi Maps 3 new?
    thanks

    Hello!
The Map Updater said: "there is no update for your phone" ...because maps 3 is already installed.
But in the meantime I have found a solution!!
I downloaded maps 2.0 from the German nokia page and installed it. Later I started Map Updater and could update to Maps 3 and now it works!!!
I think the problem was: I first updated to Maps 3 and later updated the firmware. There was any older version of fixes included in the firmware update, so Maps 3 was damaged...
     thanks
    sorry for my bad English

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • MacBook Pro Won't Boot after Firmware Update

So I just upgraded to a MacBook Pro which came in the mail yesterday. I removed the Apple-installed HD and swapped it out for a bigger, faster HD. I installed OS X from scratch, imported everything from my Time Machine backup during the Setup Assistant, and then started installing updates. Everything was running swimmingly until the last updates.
What happened is when I rebooted my MacBook Pro and logged in after a series of updates, I got presented with both a Bluetooth update and a Firmware update at the same time. Both required a restart so I thought I would kill two birds with one stone. I installed the Bluetooth update, and then when it asked to reset I installed the Firmware update instead. However, the firmware update didn't behave as advertised because instead of shutting the MacBook Pro completely down, it restarted and then started installing the firmware update.
Ever since the firmware update (which I think installed correctly but don't know how to verify), I cannot boot my MacBook Pro. Using the OS X install DVD I can view my firmware version using System Profiler, and the number it is reporting is MBP53.00A.B03.
I have tried booting in verbose mode to try and get a feel for the problem, and it eventually hangs on an infinite loop saying something about not being able to find something on disk0s2.
I also thought I would fix the problem by doing an Archive and Install, but it quit at the very beginning of installing with the error "unknown error".
Also I thought I would format the disk with Disk Utility and then try installing again, but Disk Utility reports that it in unable to unmount the volume.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
    -- Update --
Remember how I'm unable to unmount the drive? I force unmounted it and then used Disk Utility to repair the volume, but still no luck.
I think the key to the problem is this new HD I put in runs at 3 Gbps. I think I read somewhere that the new MacBook Pro's don't support that.
I think next I should try swapping out the new HD in my MacBook Pro with the one it originally came with. What do you think?

I, too, have a brand new MBP 15" that I put an Intel X25 in. At the 1.5 (Prior to Firmware Update) setting, it worked fine. I rant the Firmware Update, all looked fine, but the drive is no longer able to be seen.
Flash the PRAM, per other suggestions to no avail. Boot off of the DVD and disk utility nor Profiler sees the drive.
Replace the drive with the stock that came with the MBP (which I had never even used) and it works.
Put the Intel X25 into a Windows machine and it works fine. Reformatted it (in windows) and put it back into my MBP. Still not able to see it (from the Disk utility after booting off the DVD).
Intel's firmware for the drive says its up-to-date (new drive) and if I attempt to "re-run" the Mac Firmware Update, it says that the machine is already up-to-date.
Seems odd that it worked before an now it doesn't. Also seems odd that the X25 works in other machines. And that my MBP works just fine with the stock Hitachi 7200 320GB drive.
Ideas? Intel says to call Apple Support. Not sure what I can say to them.

  • Data recovery after poorly aimed dd

    Hello Archers!
First, I want to say that I booted up into Arch a few months back, and on my first post here, I thought I should mention how much I am enjoying this wonderful distro (and community)!
    But, to business...
A few days ago I wanted to show a friend Chakra (though I do use pure Arch myself), and after a long day of working (IT, no less), I managed to dd the iso onto my main "backup" drive! Of course, "backup" here means my collected files of the past, oh, ten years, which aren't really a backup, more like storage. What makes it worse is that I've been putting off getting Dropbox for a while, but I recognized my data was insecure and had plans to open one this week.
Normally, I ALWAYS check fdisk -l to see what is mounted before a dd. This time, I forgot I had mounted my storage/backup drive instead of my usual distro-running usb stick, and of course, didn't check. As it turns out, it's ALWAYS the one time you don't check, because "you've done it tons of times before and it's never gone wrong then, right?" Riiiiight. Well, turns out that was because you checked. Exact thought process, I do not jest.
So 707MB of horrible panic and regret later, I've found myself reading about and using the wonderful TestDisk and PhotoRec programs to recover my files. Things are going well, and I'm recovering my photos (and other data) using PhotoRec with the help of jhead and the recommended sorting scripts. While my vacation photos are the most important things on that drive, there are some documents and programming projects I'd really like to recover too, which brings me to my main question:
Is there any way to recover the directory structure or filenames by using TestDisk to make a "dummy" NTFS filesystem (which is the format it was previously)? The way I understand it, dd should have overwritten roughly the first 707MB on the drive, byte by byte, which would eliminate all partition data soundly, but not the further up inodes and structures. Running TestDisk [analyze] doesn't yield any immediate results, but I have not done the deeper scan. The whole 160GB drive was a single NTFS partition, most of which was being used, so it would seem with part (most of) of the disk structure intact, remaking the superblock to recover the data shouldn't be terribly out of reach. I'm not sure exactly what 707MB were destroyed, but recovering the file structure and names would make my current situation much, much better!
Most instructions on using TestDisk are focused on a simple partition-delete or dying drive; I was wondering if anyone had experience or advice on doing what I have described above; restoring the superblock(s) so I could access my old file structure. My plan of action is to remove all recoverable files using PhotoRec, then try to use the TestDisk deep scan to try and recover the whole NTFS partition. I've decided to ask this of Arch users as you seem to all have good input on issues; I'll try a post to the Ubuntu Forums as well (though that often seems to degenerate into chaos). I'm actually open to using any OS, including Windows if people have suggestions there.
Thanks for reading this, and possibly helping. On my end, consider the Lesson Learned. Backup, for real, and always always check before doing something irreversible.

    Thanks for the responses!
A quick update: I was able to get all of my data (that I was concerned about) off the drive using PhotoRec, which is a wonderful, wonderful program. Though, that doesn't really solve the filesystem restore issue, so I'm going to keep updating this with my results in trying to accomplish that.
I don't think mkfs would work, that will likely overwrite any fs data that might still be around; I don't think mkfs.ntfs checks for a currently residing fs (it also forcibly zero's out information by default).
I will try chkdsk. I have been reading about where the backup MFT is stored on NTFS, depending on what OS you formatted it under. It is possible that the backup remains somewhere out of where "Data Destroyer" touched.
First I think I'm going to do a deep TestDisk scan and see what it finds. I hear chkdsk can sometime be destructive, so I'll use that if TestDisk finds nothing (which means it's likely chkdsk won't succeed either).
I'm very pleased to have recovered my data, thanks to PhotoRec! I highly recommend it (and/or TestDisk) to anyone attempting data recovery.

  • MBP 2011/MC724 performance decreasing after firmware updating

On the third day after buying a suddenly degraded performance.   No additional software installed (except for the adobe flash player).
Perhaps the problem is caused by a firmware update.  I've Installed it from the standard upgrades. System Restore from DVD (with full HD cleaning), not solve problem.
Current performance can not even watch videos on youtube.
Who else is having the same problem with apple mbp 2011?
What do I do with it?  How to fix the problem?
thank you in advance for your help.
    Sasha.

youtube, safari, showing spaces and so on.  Heavy freezes. Even during the first boot (after recovery from the DVD) when the music plays, there are freezes and crackling sound.

  • A big deal of data lost after software update

    Hello,
Hopefully someone will look into this problem. I have seen also here other reports of losing data after software update.
I have a Nokia N73 Music Edition. Before I updated the firmware, I used Nokia PC Suite to backup all data in the phone memory as well as the phone settings. After a successful update, I tried to restore the backup. No error occured during the restoration. However, I found out many things hadn't been brought back to my phone, such as messages, notes, as well as landmarks that I saved in Nokia Maps.
I want to know what is going on and if there is any hope to get back those lost pieces. Thank you!
    Best regards,
    Wei

Sorry if your husband didn't backup your phone either to iTunes or icloud prior to updating your phone, then those data is gone.

  • Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

After I updated successful (message was displayed by software updater) my phone, it makes a restart.
And asked for the "Lock Code". I never used the lock code function and I never changed it before.
The default Lock Code "12345" mentioned within the documentation is not working.
Re-installation of the firmware is not working as I am unable to reinstall "PC Suite Support" due to the fact that I am not able to confirm the installation on my phone. I went to the Nokia shop and they told me they have to sent the cell phone in for repair and this can takes up to four weeks. This is totally unacceptable. Until today I was I fan of Nokia phones but this has changed dramatically.

    Hi
I also experienced the same problem. Phone was working perfectly prior to Firmware Update.
I had never used or changed the lock code. Initially I thought everything was fine because the
Firmware Update was reported to have been a success.
I then went through the process of selecting language (English) and setting date and time.
However, after doing all this I was then asked for a Lock Code.
I was a little bemused but tried the default '12345'. This did not work.
I tried all the other usual defaults; '0000', '1111', '1234' etc, still no joy.
After a little swearing I decided to ring the Nokia help line. After explaining the problem I was advised to go to my nearest Care Centre. I was also told that if the cause of my problem was as a result of the 'faulty' firmware update then they should do it free of charge.
Off to the Care Centre then (30 mile round trip)!!!! They rigged it up to their 'kit' and confirmed that
the Lock Code had not been changed and was still set to '12345'. They could not access the phone
either. They now have my phone and are going to try and sort it and if they cannot sort it will be
sending off to Nokia. This should then be sorted under warranty (although I would argue the cause
of the problem is a glitch in the Firmware Update and not a fault with the phone).
Let's hope that when I get the phone back it will all be hunky dory!!!
It's also worth noting that even though I could not access the phone directly by using its own keys
I could use all the functions when rigged up to my computer through Nokia PC Suite. I could access
all contacts, messages, calendar etc. I was also able to send and receive SMS. If the phone was
locked then surely I shouldn't have been able to do this????
Hope the above sheds some light on your problem. Just be sure that you are not fobbed off by
either the help line or the 'techies' in the shop. At the end of the day if you have not messed about
with the lock code before the firmware update you should be able to get it sorted free of charge if
the phone is still under warranty. GOOD LUCK!!!!

  • MiniDP to VGA Adapter - screen flickering, even after Firmware Update

    Hello,
concerning the MiniDP to VGA Adapter, I'm experiencing the same issue many other users are complaining about: When hooked up to my 22" external LCD, the screen goes black from time to time. After 1-2 seconds it's back to normal; still enervating though.
    Model:
LG L227 WTP-PF (@1680x1050 + max. colors; only available refresh rate: 59,9 Hz)
    MiniDP-VGA Adapter Firmware: 1.03 (current)
    Mac OSX 10.5.6
MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Late '08)
Apple Software Update says I'm up-to-date on the software side. I've read that the low refresh rate could be responsible for this. Only problem: I can't change it in System Preferences/Monitor settings. Other options than 59,9Hz are greyed out.
    Any solution to this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tobi

I've got almost exactly the same set up, only with a Samsung display, and I too have found that the recent adapter firmware update has not done the trick.
However, since you have a PRO, you are (maybe) in luck. The PRO has two graphics options, the 9400M (which is the same as in the MB) and the 9600M GT. You switch between these by selecting "Higher Performance" or "Better Battery Life" in the Energy Saver System Preferences.
I have found that by selecting "Higher Performance" I do not get the screen blanking at all. It is slightly annoying that when taking my Mac on the move, I have to switch back to "Better Battery Life" (and hence log out) if I want to get the most out of my battery, but it is the only way I have found of ensuring a screen-blanking free experience when sat at my desk using the external display.
    Hope this helps.
    Ade
P.S. I have a LG LCD HD TV too, and don't find I have the problem with either graphics card when using this. I only connect at "something x 768" to the TV, whereas the 22" monitor is "something x 1050", so maybe there is a problem with the 9400M driving higher resolution displays? I presume it can drive Apple's own HD displays ok though....?

  • M5035MFP displays Permanent Storage Write Failed after firmware update to 48.301.7

After updating the firmware to 48.301.7, I have two M5035MFP machines that are displaying "68 Permanent Storage Write Failed" error messages. The users can press Continue and printing will proceed normally for another 10-50 pages when the message will appear again. The NVRAM and HDD have been reset/intiliased and they have been powered off/on several times.
This is also occurring on two other different models (6040MFP/9040MFP) which also started showing up after a firmware update about the same time.
Could this be a failed update? How would I go about downgrading to a previous firmware version?

    Hi Rwelper,
I want to share with you this solution:
Please try first to reseat the Formatter/HDD and the memory DIMM and install the correcly then try:
First it is not adviced to downgrade the firmware at this step, you can try a cold reset and upgrade firmware again.
here, you need to remove the existent Firmware file on your PC and try to download it again from the HP Website, thus you can instaltly disable the firewalls and the antivirus and do this action.
NOTE: You can try a new upgrade firmware before you proceed with the Cold reset* of the printer.
Cold reset (Format disk also can be performed if this don't work): You can check the printer's manual to know how to perform it.
Please try an NVRAM init or Super NVRAM Init if this don't give a solution.
All these manipulations you can find in the printer's manual
Please note also that all these manipulations will delete all the current printer's configuration if it going to be working fine, so you will need to upgrade firmware and set your printer up again.
==> There is a need to delete files on the HDD / data on the DIMM, unplug and restart the printer.
The final solution is to replace the Formatter then the HDD if all these solutions don't bring a result.
