Data Recovery from Windows Back-up

So someone kicked down our front door and stole our computers.  Now I am trying to restore my files from a Windows back-up.  I have a WD My Book Essential drive and backed-up the C:// drive on 6/30/2014.  The problem is that when I do a restore,
none of my files are there.  I used Windows back-up instead of the WD app.  WD is telling me it is a windows issue.  Trying to get someone from Windows to actually talk to is near impossible.
I can see the back-up on the drive, but when I go into it, only the Users folder is there, even though I explicitly chose the C: drive (and it is even named as such).  I can click on the back-up and get to the back-up set and then there are a series
of back-up file folders.
So my questions are:
1.  I tried to restore from this back-up and it looked like it installed files, but when I went to my c: drive none of the folders or files were there.  With a restore, shouldn't it restore the files in their folders?  Maybe I am not understanding
how this is supposed to work.  Where does it put the restored files?
2.  Any suggestions as how I can recover my data from this back-up?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi,
How did you do to restore files from Back-up? To restore file from back-up, you can refer to the video of the link below for test.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/backup-and-restore
If issue persists, is there any error message during Windows Restore? Please also check Event Viewerif it identify the problem.

  • Can I get a data recovery from Apple if my iMac was in the hard drive replacement programme and I wasn't notified about it?

Basically my iMac just crashed and I searched on Google for replacing my hard drive and came across the iMac 1TB Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program at http://www.apple.com/support/imac-harddrive/
Which is that Apple is asking all 2009 - 2011 iMac users to return their iMac for a free hard drive replacement because it currently has a fault in it. After entering in my serial number, I see that my iMac is elegible for a replacement.
I did register my iMac with Apple, but I didn't receive any email about this program and I lost all my recent data because of the faulty hard drive. I never had an issue before with the drive so this just happened out of the blue.
Is it possible to get a free data recovery from Apple for this? I find that it was a lack of communication that I lost most of my data.

I completely understand that it's my responsibility to back up my data but I have it set to every 2nd month, not on a weekly or daily basis to back up the data.
Apple might not be in data recovery business but could they not acquire a third party to do this?
    This is what happened:
It was on sleep overnight and when I tried waking it, it was lagging badly. So I shut it down and restarted it. I phoned into techincal support to find out whats wrong, but they were giving me advice to reset the params etc. But i think it made it worse because it didnt want to get passed the white start up screen.
So I phoned back to ask if it's a usual issue with my version of iMac and the man replied that it isn't common and that I should run the disk utility to check the hard drives health.
I installed Mountain Lion on a USB and started the disk utility. Then it highlighted in red that it's a hardware fault and cannot be repaired by the disk utility. Therefore the hard drive has a serious fault with it.
That's when I Google'd for a replacement drive and came across the program. The techincal guy didn't even tell me about it or anything.
If I knew about this sooner, I would have taken it in for a replacement.

I know if I install data recovery software on the server to scan it ,it wil rewrite some places on harddisk and that is not wise.

  • Data Recovery from Partitioned and formatted Bit Locker Encrypted Drive

Recently because of some issues in windows 7 installation from windows 8 installed OS. it was giving as the disc is dynamic windows can not be installed on it. so at last after struggling hard no other solution i partitioned and formatted my whole
drive so all data gone included the drive which was encrypted by bit lockers.
For recovery i used many software such as ontrack easy recover, get data back, recovery my files professional edition but still i couldnt able to recover my data from that drive. then i found some suggestion Using CMD to decrypt my data first
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee523219(WS.10).aspx
where it shows it successfully decrypt my data at that moment my drives were in RAW format excluding on which windows is installed and then in CMD i check Chdsk which also shows no problem found. but now problem is still i coudnt able to recover
my data then i format the drive D and again tried to recover data using above software after decryption still no result.
Now i need assistance how i can recover my encrypted drive as it was partitioned and also formatted but decrypted also as i have its recovery key too. thanks

    Hi ,
I am afraid that we cannot get the data back if the drive has been formatted even if use the
    BitLocker Repair Tool.
You’d better contact your local data recovery center to try to get data back.

  • Data Recovery from an encrypted Time Machine HD

Does anyone have eny experience with having data retrieved from a time machine hard drive that is encrypted? I've clean installed Mountain Lion and now can't get at my time machine to restore files.
Apple support recommended I posted here and explore 3rd party recovery servies.
    Please please anyone!

It was my first time machine back up. Mid way I felt that it is stuck so I powered down my mac book pro. Now its not booting. I gave the details in a simultaneous thread "Gray screen, spinning cog and midway to first back up of time machine". I am assuming that if I have lost all the data on my harddrive, can I at least get some from the incomplete time machine back up.
well, it might be possible but it won't be in any form that you can retrieve automatically. so your first priority should be to get your computer to boot and after what you can start worrying about getting your data from an incomplete TM backup. I've done that it the past and it works sometimes but it really depends on the situation. I had to do it from terminal too as it didn't work from finder.
but it need not be that you lost all data on the main drive. boot from the SL install dvd and see if disk utility sees the drive. if so, repair the drive and try booting from it. if you have disk warrior it might help too if disk utility can not fix some errors.

  • Data Recovery from crashed Hard Disk

    Hi,
My HP Pavilion Laptop's internal Hard Disk (Seagate) has crashed Suddenly and it is not getting detected by system.
This hard disk contains some of my important documents which I want to recover. When I contacted a service center, I was told that it can be recovered by some expert professionals but that is a bit costly affair.
Can anyone suggest, how the data can be recovered from the hard disk.?
    Thanks in advance for help.
    Regards,
    Rajeev

If your hard drive is spinning then using an effective data recovery software you can do recover your data yourself. I would advice you to try Kernel for Windows Data Recovery Software to recover your data from Windows file system.

  • Data recovery from corrupt boot partition

The boot partition on my MacBook running 10.7.6 has a corrupt volume structure and will not mount, much less boot. The recovery partition boots but really doesn't let me do anything. Disk Utility can't repair nor even complete verification. I have lots of images which I need to recover, so am looking for a utility which might help.
Everything was apparently ok until the failure and the drive hardware checked out ok, so I'm hopeful my files are recoverable. A week or so ago I optimized the volume with TechTool Pro and the directory with DiskWarrior, and last night attempted to sync 1Password on my iPad with 1Password for Mac. This did no t work, probably because of my unfamiliarity with the procedure, but seemed to do no damage. When I ran TTPro last night from its eDrive partition it reported a volume structure problem on the partition which I started to fix with the program but then cancelled the analysis and decided to use disk utility instead. Disk utility also reported a problem but stopped the verification with the instruction to do a repair which it again could not complete. When I rebooted the system partition would again not boot but this time I got grey screen with a message that the debugger had loaded and <panic>. A message box said power down and restart, but that only repeats the process.
I'm thinking of attempting to install a system on an external boot drive and accessing the corrupt partition with a data recovery utility. Any insights, ideas or shared experiences appreciated. Thanks in advance for any desperately needed help.

The safest thing to do here is to install a new disk in the system and do a clean install of OS X. From there, you can put your corrupted volume in an external USB enclosure and mount the file system to try and recover as much data as you can.
It's likely obvious now, but it's REALLY worth investing in a large-capacity external storage or Time Capsure to use with Time Machine. Backups are essential. Hardware always eventually dies. We all need an effective strategy to deal with that.
A long time ago, I was backing my Linux system up to 4mm DAT. When the inevitable HDD crash came, I thought I was ready. Unfortunately, I hadn't tested recovery from tape and I ended up losing everything. Which is to say, until you know you can restore, you don't even have a backup. I lost thousands upon thousands of photos of my kids growing up.
BTW, if it is essential that you recover as much as possible, consider taking the disk to a data recovery service. Be warned: It's expensive.

  • Data recovery from N95 8Gb internal memory

    Hello
My girlfriend's N95 8Gb came to something of a nasty end over the weekend. No screen, no keyboard, camera unit's out, but, with a battery the lights still come on. The question is whether we can recover anything from the internal 8Gb flash memory. Any thoughts as to whether anything's salvageable and/or how to go about it? Has anybody been in the same position and succeeded in recovering any data?
    Cheers

Thank you for your replies cjlim and jjegan.
The main problem I've got with mass storage mode is that with no screen nor keyboard I can't really select anything. I suspect when I connect the USB cable its probably waiting for me to select mass storage or PC Suite modes before it registers as a device on my PC. At the moment I therefore don't know for sure the connection's working. As I say the lights come on, so I'm hoping the main board is still in some sort of working condition. Guess I could see if the Nokia service centre could add a keyboard and screen??
Although costly I'd be quite happy to pay a data recovery specialist to get the images back, but I'm wondering how to even find such a specialist. I've searched google for a data recovery specialist in Singapore, but to no avail. They all seem to be fine with flash memory cards (as I am), but seem to baulk at an internal flash memory chip.

  • Data recovery from external hard drive

I'm sick! I was attempting to format my flash drive and I accidentally chose the wrong drive and formatted my Toshiba 3.0 external USB hard drive with over 350GB of data on it. Is there any way at all to recover my files?

Lots of programs out there from which to choose. In the meantime, don't access the drive.

  • Data recovery from a disk that is unmounted

    Here is my problem:
disk utility had indicated that I had a couple of bad blocks in my start up disk and recommended that it be replaced. Since I already had a second internal hard drive with plenty of room on it, I simply installed OS 10.4 on the second hard drive and designated it as the startup drive.
Then I ran maintenance on the problem drive. After spending an hour or more grinding through every sector it appeared that the drive would pass master. However for some reason it hung up, stopped making progress and disabled my computer, i.e., I could move the cursor but could not click anything or select anything. Finally my only choice was to manually shut down and restart. Restart seemed to work fine except the disk on which I was performing maintenance did not show up on the desktop.
Finally I was able to locate it using disk utility and discovered that the mount point was missing and it was not mounted. Of course this is what I should have expected since techtool pro unmounts a drive while it performs maintenance and when I had to interrupt, it did not remount.
I spent three days trying to find a way to remount it, including downloading MountMe. Strangely when I ran MountMe it recognized the drive and gave me a successful remount message, but the drive was not actually remounted according to disk utility.
I have moved the drive to a different G-4 with no more success.
my greatest problem -- I had used Backup from .Mac but apparently was not careful enough about where the backup file was located. Generally I download to my desktop and then if I want to save a download I move it to an appropriate location. Unwisely I had done the same with backup which means of course that when the old startup drive crashed it took my desktop files with it.
Included among those backups were all of my financial records (Quicken) for the year. Three checking accounts, all of my credit card accounts, all of my business accounts, etc. I am talking about days of contacting credit card companies and banks for replacement of records for the year and, worse yet, they don't have the details in their files regarding the accounts to be charged nor do they have any info about inter account transfer, etc., etc., etc.
So, I am looking for a reasonably priced service provider to copy my defective hard drive for me. I don't think there is any problem with the data on the drive, I just can't get it remounted.
Maybe someone knows how to work around the mount point problem????
My main desktop computer is a G-4 quicksilver with dual 800, OS 10.4.3 and 1.4 GB of memory.
    thanks,
    John Cleek

Whenever someone reports issues with their drive my first question is always, "Do you hear any unusual noises coming from the computer?"
What I'm listening for is anything like grinding, scraping, what we always call 'ping-ponging' or other unusual clicking noises that would indicate a mechanical problem inside the drive. If you don't hear anything unusual then the problem is more likely to be corrupt volume information or a broken hard drive controller board.
If you hear noises then my recommendation is to stop trying to get anything off the drive because any more attempts would do yet more damage.
The only data recovery company I've used is www.drivesavers.com. I've called them multiple times to get quotes and their reps always seems to actualy have an idea what they're talking about. It is very expensive to use a service such as theirs but sometimes it is the only option available.

  • Data recovery from a nonfictional Macbook Pro?

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro and earlier this evening, I think it might've given up. I closed the lid and opened it up a few minutes later and the screen wouldn't light up. So i restarted it and got this File with a question mark image on my screen. I did a bit of research and people mentioned it could be do to the MBP not finding the software it needs to boot up. So I restarted it, holding down Command + R and went through the OSX servers. I then went to repair disc permissions, repair disc, etc and everything checked out okay. It said it found nothing wrong and so I restarted it again and I was still left with the same problem.
Now before I decide to purchase an external HD case to move over data from my MBP to my iMac. I was wondering if there was any way I could possibly do it using an ethernet cable, wifi, bluetooth, or anything really, before I purchased said item.
    Thank you.

If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdateor CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Data recovery from backup

    Hello.
Could you please let me know the recovery steps of the data volume?
I tested the following steps on my HANA (Rev.18), but I could not recover my data due to the error.
    1. Start HANA studio, right-click on the host name in the 'Navigator' pane, and select 'Backup'.
    2. Go through the backup wizard, and create 'COMPLETE_DATA_BACKUP' files in '/usr/sap/<SID>/HDB00/backup/data'.
    3. Confirm that the 'COMPLETE_DATA_BACKUP_databackup_N_M' files exist in the above directory.
    4. Right-click on the host name in the 'Navigator' pane in HANA Studio, and select 'Stop'.  Select 'Soft' shutdown.
    5. Confirm that the HANA DBMS stops.
    6. Start the 'GNOME Terminal', go to the '/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/data' directory, and delete (or rename) the 'mnt00001' directory.
    7. Right-click on the host name in the 'Navigator' pane in HANA Studio, and select 'Recovery'.
    8. Start the recovery with un-checking the 'Recovery of the Log Entries' option.
    9. The data recovery for 'Name Server' stops at 50%, and the following error is shown.
         Recovery of system <SID> failed
The service 'nameserver' at 'NODE:30001' responsible for the volume '1' does crash.
    Thank you,
    -mamoru

    Hello,
still thinking what might be the reason for error and got another idea (but without the recovery log it is just pure guess):
    6. Start the 'GNOME Terminal', go to the '/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/data' directory, and delete (or rename) the 'mnt00001' directory.
If you renamed/deleted whole directory - maybe the recovery process was missing the directory and was not able to recreate it... (I had similar issue with log destination when I decided to have it in other than standard destination. Installer was not able to create it and was failing until I created the directory manually.)
However I am still wondering what exactly is mnt00001 directory for...
From SAP HANA Studio it is apparent that:
nameserver (does not have any data file created at specified location) ...is assigned path:
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/data/hdb00001
    indexserver ...is assigned path
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/data/hdb00002
    statisticsserver ...is assigned path
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/data/hdb00003
However nowhere is written what exactly is stored in following directories:
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/data/hdb00002_backup
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/data/hdb00003_backup
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/data/mnt00001/hdb00001
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/data/mnt00001/hdb00002
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/data/mnt00001/hdb00003
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/data/mnt00001/hdb00001_backup
Does anyone know? I was not able to find this information.
Similar situation is in log area...

  • Data recovery from serially installed hard drives

Like many other users on these boards, by X205 is refusing to boot.
My question: How can I recover the data on my hard drives, since there are two of them?
I ran a search to find all of the files I wanted (*.jpg in this case), and the search came back with hundreds of files (photos) that I am trying to recover....but it won't let me open them up.
I'm guessing since the drives are installed in series in this machine, somehow I need to find a way to read them both to access these files?

You might be able to hook it up externally and run some data recovery software on the drive...
That being said, you'd need probably need to buy the software, since this type of recovery is a little more advanced and will need to rebuild the control table/data.
