Data Source Disappearing randomly

I am having a peculiar problem with Creator. Please go through steps
Step 1: Created a datasource with following attributes

I am able to see the data source in server window... but not able to view data
when i see in XML file .Creator\2_1\context.xml, this data source is present in that file
Main concern is this random behaviour and cant predict when this datasource will disappear
My first question will be
"Is my application code responsible for this random behaviour?"
Its a very simple data access application.
Please help me through this. Thanks in advance

Hi!
From error log You can see that problem is that for some reason necessary DB drivers can't be copied to the server's directory with libraries ("An error occured while trying to copy the needed DB driver jar files.") and therefore You have this problem. The reason can be write permission or something else, but not your application code.

You need to define the data source in the XML file that's contained under the "Configuration" link in the Mapviewer admin pages. The datasource links created using the process you've described are "dynamic", and as you say disappear after each restart. If you take a look in the XML configuration file, you'll see at the end a sample datasource definition; reproduce this for the OBIEE NAVTEQ datasource, do a save and restart and then the datasource will persist through reboots.

ODBC Data source administrator hanging for 20 seconds

After installing 32 bit ODAC 11.2 Release 5 and Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio (11.2.0.3.20) our business is reporting slow Excel/VBA code using ODBC.
The business are querying using a ODBC System DSN. It works but hangs for 20 second when VBA releases the connection.
I can see that I get the same pause after testing the connection in the "ODBC Data Source administrator"
1. Open ODBC Data Source administrator
2. Edit the System DSN
3. Push "Test Conncetion". Says "Connection succesful". Push OK
4. Push "OK"
ODBC Data Source administrator now hangs for 20 seconds.
I did a clean installation on a Win7 x64 machine using 32 bit ODBC Data Source administrator
Nothing to find in the eventlog.
Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Udpate: I tracked it down to Microsoft ISA Firewall Client installation. If I uninstall the ISA Firewall the problem disappears.
Only disabling the ISA Firewall doesn't help!

When creating a report, "Available Data Sources" is missing options.

Background:
I am running Crystal Reports XI Developer edition.
Here are the steps to expose the problem:
1. Create a new standard report (Ctrl-N).
2. Available data sources - expand "Create New Connection"
3. I expect to find "Field Definitions Only" and "File System Data" in the displayed list (among many others). However, I only see "Database Files", "OLE DB (ADO)", and "More Data Sources".
4. "Field Definitions Only" formerly appeared under "More Data Sources" but has disappeared.
Question: How do I get all the connection types to appear?
I have a secondary computer running Crystal Reports where the entire list is populated. The problem appears only on my primary Crystal Reports development machine.

1. Yes, I checked "More Data Sources" - not there.
2. I tried adding the Field Definitions using Control Panel Add/Remove - no help.
I tried removing the "Field Definitions" and then adding them again - no help.
3. Another machine does have the same version of CR. It is running Vista. Problem machine is running XP.
4. Clicked the "Reinstall" button in the Control Panel Add/Remove - this fixed the problem. I did not need to uninstall the program.
Both machines now exhibit the same list of connection types (with one small exception). Thank-you for your hellp.

Cell data/text disappearing in document with long table

I've got a document that has a table that spans about 10 pages. As I work on adding text here and there in the table, some text in cells downstream from the text I just updated will disappear randomly.
For example, I make a change in a cell on my current page that causes the table to naturally grow/shrink...when I scroll down to the next page in the document...the cell data is gone in some of the cells!
But, it's not really gone, it's just suppressed. If I use my cursor to fidget with the size of the object on the preceding pages, it all re-appears. It's like the table does not like to break to the next page sometimes.
Any ideas? This happens on a co-workers ID installation as well...with different documents.

Remove all manual formatting from your text (which is indicated with a "+"), delete generic generated character styles and build up your proper paragraph and character styles. Take observation on the basic character properties where you will find no break in both stye categories and in the keep options of the paragraph styles.
Never have any text without paragraph styles, never any exception of formatting without a character style and don't use imported Word styles without checking and edition in InDesign, better is to avoid imported Word styles.

XML Data Mapping Disappear when Reopening xlf - Xcelsius

I have created one xcelsius with XML Data maps which works fine. But when I re-open this XLF, the XML data mapping disappear from XML source screen of Excel. It's so much enoying, so every time when i re-open the xlf. I have to map xml data again and then do some formating. after that it works fine.
I guess i have missed some setting. Does anyone has faced such a weired problem with xcelsius.

Data Sources Discrepency in R/3 DEV and QA

I compared RSA6 in R/3 DEV with R/3 QA and there were many data sources missing from the QA system. WHy is that? Is that normal? What do I need to do match the two systems? Thanks.

You may not want all of the datasources in Dev to be in your QA system.
If someone goes through the system and randomly turns on datasources to "see what's there", then you may not want all of those datasources to be moved up the landscape.
Example, I'm looking for Sales data, I may turn on 4 or 5 datasources looking for the right data. If I only find it in 1, then that's the only datasource I will transport.
If have a matching DEV and Test system, they could be knocked out of synch if Test is refreshed from production and production doesn't match DEV or Test.
IMHO, it's okay if they are not matching and completely expected. The second you turn on a datasource in DEV, the systems don't match.

ODBC System DSN's are invisible in teh Data Sources even though they exist

For a long time I had a problem with Windows XP Pro systems that had NI-DAQ installed. These machines were ATE controllers which had Labview applications deployed with NI-DAQ cards. I needed database connectivity through several system DSN's for Access, Pervasive, and SQL server. The problem was that after I installed NI-DAQ all the system DSN's would disappear in the Data Sources control panel in windows. Then if I tried to create them again it would say they were already there. I could actually edit them by name, delete them and recreate them, but they would not appear in the WinXP Data Sources Manager. They would exist, but would be invisible. They actually worked fine from an application perspective, but would be a pain to edit or know if I had set one up or not.
I finally solved it with the help of my network admin and I wanted to post the solution for someone else with the same problem:
I solved the invisible ODBC problem. NI installs an ODBC DSN called Citadel 4. When this is installed it adds its entry via a registry setting. The problem is it changes the "Default" key in HKLM\Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI from "No Value Set" to blank. For some reason, when ODBC Manager reads the list in this key, the blank screws it up. Deleting the Default setting causes the Default setting to be recreated as No Value Set and all appears again.

I did a Software Update including the combo update to take me to 10.5.8 (Jeez, that took AGES! do all Software Updates in Leopard take that long?) - then I launched Mail and suddenly everything was there - receiving messages, and the mailboxes full of my messages. Perhaps it was a bug in 10.5.6

Problem with native SQL cursor in generic data source

I am implementing generic data source based on FM.
Because of complicated SQL I canu2019t use Open SQL and RSAX_BIW_GET_DATA_SIMPLE-example u201Cas isu201D.
So, I have to use Native SQL. But Iu2019ve got a problem with a cursor. When I test my data source in RSA3, everything is Ok. But, if I start appropriate info-package, I get error u201CABAP/4 processor: DBIF_DSQL2_INVALID_CURSORu201D. It happens after selecting of 1st data package in line u201CFETCH NEXT S1 INTOu2026u201D. It seems to me that when system performs the second call of my FM the opened cursor has already been disappeared.
Did anyone do things like this and what is incorrect?

I don't think this SQL is very valuable It is just an aggregation with some custom rules. This aggregation is performing on info-provider which consists of two info-cubes. Here we have about 2 billion records in info-provider and about 30 million records in custom db-table Z_TMP (certainly, it has indexes). I have to do this operation on 21 info-providers like this and I have to do this 20 times for each info-provider (with different values of host-variable p_GROUP)

Date format disappears after 3 or 4 executions

Hi
My requirement is that i have to set my "current date" format as yyMMdd, setting this format is fine. It executes also normally with the desired output. After executing 3 or 4 times, the target format of my date ,ie yyMMdd disapears and hence the output is a blank. its a bit weird.
Any idea why this is happening.

Hi,
I beleive you are using Graphical mapping and Date is disappearing after producing the values for earlier occurences of field.
The only reason due to which it can happen is that you are not handling the context of occurence of source field. The occurence of source date should be equal to occurence of date field n target.
you may need to write some UDF or You can use SAP standard functions to achieve it.

Error in Creation of BW data source

Hi All,
While creating a data source, i am selecting the Origin type Business ware house cube & in the RFC destination field i can able to select the BW syste. The problem is when i go to the next filed BW report and try to get the relevant BW report from F4 the system shows a log error as "System error in System" Message no. CRM_MKTTG_DS_MISC033.
In second case
I have taken an existing BW Data source and tried to recreate it manually filling all the fields with existing data source, RFC destination, BW report, Business partner and Function module.
In this case the system doesnu2019t throws any error, it is working fine if I create manually.
I am in a dilema why the system behaving like this. could you please throw some light on this issue.

Unable to capture the Data Source into a Transport Request

Hi All,
We have a product hierarchy and we are using the data source :4R_PRODH_D_LGEN_HIER for the hierarchy.
Now we need to transport this structure to the quality environment but we were not able to capture the datasource:4R_PRODH_D_LGEN_HIER into a transport request.
When ever we activate the data source:4R_PRODH_D_LGEN_HIER it is asking for the Package and the Transport Request Number.If we give these details and save it, data source is not getting captured in the request, only the "bject Directory Entry" is getting captured.
Can someone please guide me on how to capture the datasource under "Data Sources in BW" in a transport request.

Hi Sachin,
Hierarachy datasource is not captured as Attributes and Text Datasource. So what ever you have done is correct.
What ever is captured in Object Directory Entry is correct. So go ahead with your transports, once transport is done check the Hierarchy Infopackage with Available OLTP hierarchies and load the data.
Most important thing first see that the all Master & Transactional Datasources are transported in R/3 Dev to QA to PRD
In BW, datasources are not transported, only their replica is transported.
Transportation of Datasource is done in R/3. Only their replica is transported in BW.
So wht ever you have done till now is correct. So go ahead.
While attaching Hierarchy Datasource it is captured only in "Object Directory Entry"

Using a SQL data source and XML data source in the same template

I am trying to develop a template for the Request for Quote report generated in Apps 11.5.10. I have loaded the data from the XML output into the template, but I am missing one field - I need the org_id from the po_headers table. Is it possible to use a sql data source (i.e., "select org_id from po_headers_all where po_header_id = [insert header_id from xml data]...") in addition to the xml data source to populate the template at runtime? When you use the Insert > SQL functionality is it static at the time the template is created, or does it call to the database at runtime? I've looked through all the docs I could find, but this isn't clear.

Thats a tough one ... if you go custom with a data template you will at least get support on the data template functionality ie you have a problem when you try and build one. You will not get support on the query inside the data template as you might have gotten with the Oracle Report, well you could at least log a bug against development for a bad query.
Eventually that Oracle Report will be converted by development anyway, theres an R12 project going on right now to switch the shipped OReports to data templates. AT this point you'll be fully supported again but:
1. You have to have R12 and
2. You'll need to wait for the patch
On reflection, if you are confident enough in the query then Oracle will support you on its implementation within a data template. Going forward you may be able to swap out your DT and out in the Oracle one without too much effort.

"Open sql" report no data sourced defined in windows

when I want to import data from sql database, the Open sql window report error
"There are no data sourced defined. Please create one to continue",
but I have defined the odbc data source using windows 's odbc administrator, why the error?

A couple of possibilities.
First are you licensed for Sql interface? If not, you might get that message.
Second, where did you create the ODBC connection on your computer or the server. It has to be on the server.
Third, did you create the odbc as a system driver? it needs to be so
Fourth, what operating system? If it's unix or AIX there is a hole bunch more you need to do to get odbc connections working. If it's windows, it's pretty easy.
Fifth, did you test the connection before trying it in Essbase?

Excel-2007 cannot connect to Oracle ODBC data source, Control Panel can.


I cannot make an ODBC connection from Exce-2007 to Oracle work. I am an expert Excel and VBA user (since 1994) and I have frequently used Excel to access ODBC databases, including Oracle (I have done this with Excel-2003 both with worksheet queries and have written VBA ADO-connection routines). And even though in Excel-2007 a worksheet ODBC query is supposed to be easier to create than in previous version of Excel, my connection fails. Any suggestions and all help are welcome and much appreciated.
DETAILS


1) What is my system? I am using Excel-2007 on Windows Vista x64 and Oracle server v.11g on my computer (all this is on my computer, no network issues).
2) Why use Excel with Oracle at all? I use Excel-2007 to access Oracle rather than Access-2007 (or any other application like TOAD, etc.) because I do engineering calculations with the data stored in Oracle. These calculations are easier done in Excel (I suppose that one alternative to this could be to use some sql or Access to get the data from the database, then store it as plain vanilla CSV file, then open this file in Excel, then do the math (the math involves complex optimisation algorithms), then save the results as CSV, then use some sql or Access to put the data back into the database. Howwever this does not strike me as a quick or neat solution. And after all Excel has been designed to access ODBC databases, so why not use it?)
3) What do I do in Excel-2007 that won't work? I create an ODBC link to Oracle that does not work. In Excel-2007 this is straightforward:

<li>define an ODBC connection (Data tab --> From other sources --> From data connection wizard);</li>
<li>define a query on the worksheet -- that's it, this is all!</li>
</ul>

I start with creating an ODBC connection:
a) I choose an ODBC data source type: ODBC DSN
b) Excel-2007 displays the list of the available ODBC data sources. I see in it my Oracle database name and I select it.
c) Excel-2007 displays the Data Link Properties:
- the "Provider" has a list of the OLE DB drivers with preselected "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers". I keep this default selection.
- the "Connection" tab has a connection string "DSN=<my database name>" which I keep, it also has fields for the user name and the password, which I fill with the correct credentials.
- Finally there is a button "Test Connection", which when I click produces the following error message:
"Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. 
Unespecified error"

4) Additional food for thought:
a) In the above walk-through the only data, which I type, are the user name and password, everything else is selected from lists offered by Excel-2007, hence any possibility of typos being the cause of the problem can safely be discarded.
b) I can test the ODBC driver in the Control Panel and it shows that it can connect to the Oracle database:
- in Control Panel --> Admin Tools --> Data Sources (ODBC) on the "User DSN" tab I can see the list of the available ODBC data sources (same list as in Excel-2007, point 3b above) with the name of my database in it;
- selecting the name of my database from the list of the sources and clicking "Configure" button opens a tab with Data Source Name (same as in Excel-2007), TNS Service Name and User ID. I enter <user name>/<password> and click "Test Connection" button. A message "Connection successful" appears (just for a test I enter incorrect user credentials and "Unable to connect" message appears)
BOTTOM LINE


The procedure for using an ODBC connection from Excel is very simple, in the past I have created and used such connections numerous times with Excel-2003 and earlier on Win-XP and earlier. But now on Excel-2007 and Vista-x64 I cannot make it work.
Also, testing an ODBC connection driver is really easy and simple to be done in the Control Panel. There testing the same ODBC connection, which fails in Excel-2007, results in success.
I am frustrated by the simplicity of the problem and yet the persistant error. I have lost now two full days in failed attempts to make the simple procedure work and in searching the internet for answers.

Excel 2007 is a 32-bit application.
When installing 32-bit applications in a 64-bit environment, the "default" location is:
C:\Program files (x86)\...
Excel then launches from this location.
However, when it connects to Oracle and passes the name of the calling program, Oracle attempts to "interpret" the value of (x86) as if
the value within the parenthesis are being passed as a reference. Of course, iOracle doesn't find anything, so the result is (),
and then it cannot return the connection info back to the calling application.
I corrected it by installing Excel in C:\Program Files\, and once launched from that location, it works the same as on the 32-bit machines.
However, at my location, they are FORCING Excel to be installed in the(x86) location.
What I'm trying to discover now is:
Is it possible to flag Oracle to NOT process the embedded variables?
Or, is it possible to assign a variable in Oracle such that x86 = "(x86)", so that the end result is viable?
Have you had any luck with your installation?
