Data stream from OEM device, TCP/IP "not enough memory"

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to catch a data stream from an OEM device over a TCP/IP link.  I can start the data stream, or pause/resume it, but the OEM device determines when the data stream has ended.  The data stream begins, and within 20 seconds, I get the famed "not enough memory" error.  Once this happens, data is lost from the stream, and quite often the final message indicating completion is missed.  I see two solutions to this.  1) Watch how many bytes are backed up on my TCP/IP port, and issue a pause command until I can process the backed up bytes at which point a resume will be issued.  ...or 2) Use my application's memory usage in the same manner.  Does anyone know how to do either of these things?
Thanks much

Hi Toader,
Thanks for your response.
1) I'm not sending any data.  I'm trying to consume an incoming data stream which is being driven by an OEM device.  This device basically has an FPGA hooked up to a 100Mbit/s hose.  You can start it, pause it and resume it.  Those are the available operations related to consuming the data stream.  I think the crux of the problem is deciding when to pause the OEM device to give the LabView app a chance to process and store the accumulated portion of the data stream.
2) Sure, but it's not my program and is large and complicated.  I guess I could write my own program within a program, but I would rather use the existing architecture.  I might write my own micro app, but I doubt it will keep up with the FPGA driven hose.  If I could detect the condition leading up to the "not enough memory" error, which it seems many LV developers have encountered, but not really solved, then I could issue a pause to the OEM device.
3) Well using a LabView application under a 2Ghz Windows box may not be sufficient hardware.  But I really think it's the Windows operating system that I'm having trouble with, not the hardware platform.
I've tried several counters in the LabView application, watched task manager before/during/after the "not enough memory" error, and downloaded an interesting app called taskmanager.vi in an attempt to get something to correlate with the error message.  I've not succeeded yet.  Here's what I think is happening.  The Windows OS is managing my wireless hardware, when it receives a TCP/IP packet, it puts it in the Windows Message que of my LabView application.  I think the "not enough memory" error relates to a Windows OS allocation for my message que which is being exceeded.  Any Windows programmers out there who would know how to look at the application's message que during runtime?
Thanks for your classic suggestions Toader, I may try a micro app which is spawned by the main app when its time to grab the data.  My intuition is that no software limited by the Windows OS is going to keep up with single minded FPGA hardware.
I thought this very interesting discussion was the answer and it may still be, but after trying 30+ various counters under Memory, System, Process, TCP, and Server, none correlated to the error.
http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/System-monitor-counter/m-p/1653448/message-uid/1653448/highlight/tru...
I also tried a taskmanager.vi, but none of the various flavors of memory tracked by that little gem correlated with the error either.  At this point, I started to wonder "what memory was there not enough of?".

    I can not download any music from itunes, little box pops up and says there is not enough memeory to download?

    iCloud storage has absolutely nothing to do with local storage. You need to free up space on the iPad in order to download the movies. You can transfer some content into iTunes and then delete it from the iPad in order to make room on the device.
    Settings>General>Usage>Storage is where you delete content if you want to do it in there.

    I have just upgraded from the standard N95 to the N95 8GB, I did the back up from the old phone however when restoring the files to the new handset it has completely filled the phone memory. There does not seem to be any management of the memory (aka sim/phone of old) I cant see how to make it use the larger mass memory rather than the phone.
    Having the phone memory full renders it unable to do anything, like set up a mailbox or choose a ringtone.

  • Not enough memory error when passing an array to a chart

    Hello.
    I am trying to pass some data from a reading loop to a display loop using queues and charts.
    In order to save on redraws I am reading the queue just once a while, flush it and pass the resulting array to the Chart. It is actually an array with clusters of three values.
    Everything works fine unitl I actualy want to display the chart. I can pass the data and see it using an indicator without any problems.
    When I wire the data to the chart it randomly shows : "not enough memory to complete this operation"
    The fact is the array being passed to the chart is of random size.
    The queue size is good for about 20 min. Labview shows an error after a few seconds. After clicking ok it prints out the results correctly and then a second or two later same error.
    What am I missing here? Thanks

    Not sure if it helps or not but here is the error.
    I put about 200 elements/s in the queue. That is why instead of reading it 200/s I just want it to read it once a while.
    I am not sure what is a bigger burden:copying one 500 elements array twice a second or 200/s and 200 calls to the Queue.
    The max size of the queue is not important here. I can set it to something more reasonable and will get the same error.
    What will happen to my CPU usage if I put the Chart in the for loop and make 500 call to it? And then half a second later another 500 calls?
    As I said at this point I do not know how much history I need or not but all I want is to be able to see a few s of it. If I loose the rest it is ok for now.
    Lets says that all I care is to see it close to real time with a history of 5s. It would mean the queue buffer size of  1000.
    Back to the main problem: why do I see the memory error  window when I know clearly that I have plenty of memory left.

  • Not Enough Memory or Something Wrong with Printer error

    My Epson 820 printer works fine and I can print a nozzel check pattern from the printer utility software. However, I can't print from any of my software. I keep getting the error "Something Wrong with Printer" or from some software I get "Not Enough Memory".
    I'm not having any other problems and can do complex graphics in Photoshop without any memory issues. I've checked my printer setup and it clearly sees my printer. My Epson 820 also shows up in the Printing Options dialog box.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for these suggestions. I believe it's my computer. I've started having additional problems. I opened a .pdf in Acrobat Reader and tried to print. After that I couldn't shut down my computer. Alarmed, I connected my firewire backup disk and backed up my hard drive. Then when I tried to eject the external drive, it didn't allow me to disconnect. It reappeared with the disk icon and a second folder labeled as the external drive but showing the drive was empty. I shut down and rebooted; all my files are in tact on the external drive but there's definitely a computer issue here.
    Any suggestions how I should proceed?

  • P800 "Not Enough Memory" error when trying to use Contacts

    Now even after I reset my P800 from iSync I get this 'Not enough memory' error when I try to use my contact list.
    This is getting really frustrating! I want to downgrade...

    I suspect it's the feed as I've just tried it and the latest episode fails. Try contacting the Podcast's producer/publisher to let them know, since they may not. From your linked page, click on their name and follow that to their website, where you should find contact details.
    By the way, even if the problem is with iTunes, it's still down to the producer/publisher to rectify it, which is why I suggest you contact them

  • Excel "not enough memory"

    I know I have the vast majority of my available space on the computer available (MACBOOKPRO 17).  So, why do I get the reply from EXCEL that there's "NOT ENOUGH MEMORY" to download a simple excel spreadsheet?

    HI and welcome.....
    I get an error message-not enough memory- when trying to open excel.
    Open System Profiler (Applications / Utilities). Under Hardware you can see how much RAM (memory is installed)
    And make sure there is sufficient space on the startup disk. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • Create a continuous data stream from C++, and read it in LabView

    Hello all.
    I'm working on a project which involves connecting to a motion tracker and reading position and orientation data from it in realtime. The code to get the data is in c++, so I decided that the best way to do this would be to create a c++ DLL file which contains all the necessary functions to first connect to the device and read the data from it, and use the Call Library Function node to feed this data into Labview.
    I'm having trouble though, since ideally I would like a continuous stream of data from the c++ code into Labview, and I'm not sure how to achieve this. Putting the call library function node in a while loop seems like an obvious solution, but if I do it this way I would have to reconnect to the device every time I get the data, which is quite a bit too slow.
    So my question is, if I created c++ function which created a data stream, could I read this into Labview without having to continually call a function? I'd prefer to only have to call a function once, and then read the data stream until a stop command is given.
    I'm using Labview 2010, version 10.0.
    Apologies if the question is poorly phrased, many thanks for your help.

    This method sounds like an excellent suggestion, but I do have a few questions where I dont think I've understood fully.
    From what I understand the basic premise is to use one call library function node to access a DLL which creates an instance of the device object, and passes a pointer too it into labview. Then a seperate call library function node would pass this pointer to another DLL which could access the device object, update it and read the data. This part could be in a while loop and carry on reading the data until a stop command is given.
    That's it. I'm including some skeleton code as an example. I'm also including the code because I don't know how much you have experience with multi threading, so I'm showing how you'd have to use critical sections to guard the interactions between threads so that they don't lead to issues.

    extern "C" __declspec(dllexport) int __stdcall close(uintptr_t ptr, double last_vals[], int size)
    int r= ((CDevice*)ptr)->close();
    ((CDevice*)ptr)->get_data(last_vals, size);
    delete (CDevice*)ptr;

    hThread = CreateThread(NULL, 0, DeviceProc, this, 0, NULL); // this thread will now be saving data to an internal buffer
    return 0;
    int CDevice::get_data(double vals[], int size)
    EnterCriticalSection(&rBufferSafe);
    if (vals) // provides a way to get the current used buffer size

    My main concern is that the object may go out of memory or be deallocated, since it wouldnt be held in any namespace or anything.
    Since you create the object with new, the object won't expire until either the dll is unloaded or the process (LabVIEW) closes. So the object will stay valid between dll calls provided LabVIEW didn't unload the dll (which it does if the VIs are closed). When that happens, I'm not exactly sure what happens to live objects (i.e. if you forgot to call close), I imagine the system reclaims the memory but the device might still be open.
    What I do to make sure that everything gets closed when the dll unloads before I could call close and delete the object is to everytime I create a new object in the dll I add it to a list, when the dll unloads, if the object is still on the list I delete it.

    I also have a more general programming question about the purpose of the buffer. Would the buffer basically be a big table of position values, which are stored until they can be read into the rest of the VI?
    Yes, see the example code.
    However, depending on the frequency with which you need to collect data from the device you might not need this buffer at all. I.e. if you collect a sample about every 100ms then you could remove all threading and buffer related functions and instead read the data from the read function itself like this:
    double CDevice::get_data()
    tracker->update();
    return tracker->getRawData(0);
     Because you'd only need a buffer and a seperate thread if you collect data at a high frequency and you cannot lose any data.

  • Data streaming between server and client does not complete

    Using an ad-hoc app, data streaming between server
    and client does not complete as it supposed to be.
    The process runs well in solaris 5.8, however under 5.9
    we have found the characters stream buffer length limitation
    is around 900 to 950 characters (by default we are using 3072
    characters).
    Example:
    - We are transfering HTML file, which will be displayed
    in the App client, with buffer=3072, the HTML only displayed / transfered
    as xxxxxxxx characters, but with buffer=900 the HTML is displayed properly,
    in this case, the only problem that we have is the file transfer will
    eventually longer than usual.
    - There is another case, where we have to transfer information (data) as stream
    to the client. A long data stream will not appear at all in the client.
    Any ideas why the change between 5.8 and 5.9 woudl cause problems?
    The current app-driver that we are using is compiled using Solaris 5.6,
    if possible we would like to have use of a later version, which is compiled using Solaris 5.9, do you think this will probably solve our problem?
    Thanks

  • How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

    How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

    You can't.  iCloud is not for general file backup from a Mac. It's for backup up and syncing data between mobile devices and and Macs and  The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: Backup and restore overview.
    iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your (mobile) device using iOS 5 or later. Once you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .....
    What is backed up
    You get unlimited free storage for:
    Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
    Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
    Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
    You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
    Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
    Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails
    But not from a Mac.  If you want to backup your photos and other important files I suggest you get an external hard drive and use  it with Time Machine.

  • Not enough memory error when disconnecting device on a virtual com port

    I maintain a large application that collects data from many data source channels (using coustom hardware read thru a conventional COM port) and I am adding a GPS data source on a USB port using a virtual COM port driver. The application runs 24/7/365 and works well including the GPS data, if undisturbed. However, the application needs to tolerate a physical disconnect and reconnect of the GPS device without user intervention.  When I disconnect the GPS, the application becomes unresponsive most of the time (the mouse responds and other programs that are open on the desktop work fine). I abstracted the serial code and made a separate vi (below) for testing.  When I disconnect the GPS from the COM port, I get a "Not enough memory to complete this operation" message 9 out of 10 times and the vi is unresponsive until I clear the error message (the tenth time it continues working). I built the vi this way to collect data continuously. I suspect that this is the problem with the full app but I don't see the Not enough memory message there and therefore the full app does not respond and must be terminated via Task Manager. The full app runs full screen mode.
    The LV app runs on Windows XP and LabView 7.0 (the client doesn't want to upgrade).
    I have tried probing the error message lines at all points in the vi but they don't show anything when the 'Not enough memory' message occurs (they show the expected device not found error after clearing the error message).
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
    Mel

    I think he was meaning to say without user intervention on the software side.
    I have seen odd behavior if you disconnect from a com port whilst LV still has the port open.   There are a couple things I myself woud try, being the experimenting type that I am.  Perhaps setting up a com port check to see if it has a valid connection before polling for data. If not then a blank case or some other generic code.
    The issue with this would be if it became disconnected while LV was polling data.  Hard to get around this condition.  Is there a way that the cause of the of the connect/disconnect (whether human or otherwise) could be set up so that a signal can be sent to the controlling system (pre-disconnect and post-connect) to trigger an event to handle the software side?  A simple signal switch or something.  Just thinking out loud. Withoug knowing all the particulars, it's hard to make detailed recommendations.

    Hi Dave,
    I cannot give you any source for the error message. My homemade error manager give me an error 2 after this message box in my TCP/IP command server in... pointing to a vi where I call only TCP write, TCP read and a encryption decoding (a loop appllying logical operation on all the bytes of the message to generate a magic number.)
    This error, has we discuss in a previous e-mail we exchange can be only a side effect. I don't know. I have not test my program on Win 9X. I don't have any license of the OS in the buiding. Even if than solve the problem, I can trust 9X OS. Probably the same for you if your application is critical.
    I wonder if you can provide the kind of instrumentation you are interacting with. My list is the following:
    VXI card HP 1413, (VISA layer and configuration DLL from HP)
    VXI card HP 1415, (VISA layer and configuration DLL from HP) [disable]
    GPIB/ENET100 (VISA) [diseable]
    PCI Ballard ARINC card (Ballard DLL) [disable]
    ENET connection with the TCP/IP layer... not the socket one.
    I am running from a VXIpc-872 from NI in a NI VXI chassis. I have try to different VXI controller (with different CPU speed) and also with an HP chassis. Same result. [Diseable] mean the code is not called. I run with the minimal system I can support 1 VXI Card and 1 SCP and still the same problem happen.
    Does you, Melissa G and Eric Dalaire (on the other thread) have the same type of hardware?
    If my assumption is good, the AI Continious Scan is probably using DMA? Do they? I also use DMA in my VXI access. Do you use DMA too Dave?

    Sample Code:
    Report = new CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument();
    Report.Load(Server.MapPath(strReportPath));
    Report.SetDataSource(dsReport);
    Creportviewer.ReportSource = Report;
    For exporting the report to PDF
    string Filename = Path.Combine(Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.InternetCache).ToString(), Guid.NewGuid().ToString() + ".pdf");
    Report.ExportToDisk(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat, Filename);
    Clean Up Code: (Page_UnLoad event)
    if (Report != null)
         Report.Close();
         Report.Dispose();
    Creportviewer.ReportSource = null;
    Creportviewer.Dispose();
    dsReport = null;
    GC.Collect();
    GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers();
    Can someone help me resolve the issue.

    The .rpt file size is 14MB with the Data Save option enabled, 12MB without Data Save.  Presumably the 12MB file size is because of the 24bit PNG we have as our background.
    The Designer executes the report in less than a second and we can scroll through all pages and see the image fields perfectly.
    When we Export to PDF, the Designer takes a long time, eventually gets to the 77%, the 7th record and returns "Export report failed" followed by "Memory full".  If we export only page 1 of the 3 pages, it also returns a Memory full error.  However, when the same report is run with only 1 page, that page exports to PDF but with a ridiculously large size and export time.
    The machine has 2GB of physical memory with an 8GB pagefile with Windows 2003 (latest everything).  The process runs up to about 1GB before reporting the memory full error.
    We've also tried a variety of other suggestions posted in the other thread with no success.
    We're happy to provide the RPT file to the Report Team to diagnose the problem.  Ultimately, we need to be able to produce a 15 page report with approximately 45 images.
    Our preferred scenario is fixing problem 2.  The CR Designer seems quite capable of rendering our report and printing it to our third party PDF printer in a timely manner with small size.  However, the API reports memory full.
    The API resides in a dedicated reporting web service with NO other code except for loading the report, setting parameters and printing.  When executing, it uses up to about 1.1GB before reporting the error.
    Are there any other suggestions for fixing what we have?  Are there known problems with large images in reports?  Do we need to lodge a formal support request?
    Regards,  Grant.

  • Not enough memory issue while acquiring data

    Hi all,
    I am trying to acquire audio data @ 50KS/s for 20 sec. using the PXI 4498 card in the PXI system. To acquire data I am using the DAQmx functions.
    Step1 : Created DAQmx channel
    Step2: Set the no. of sample to read as 20X50=1000000 to the DAQmx Timing function
    Step3: DAQmx Read funtion to read the data. (Set the timeout as 20x2=40Seconds)
    PLease find the attached screen shot of the block diagram.
    Issue is sometimes I am facing the memory issue when I run this VI. Popup saying that "Not enough memory to complete this Operation"  is getting popup and the Vi getting stop abruptly. Kinldy look into the screen shot and suggest me the apprapriate method to read the data at mentioned acquisition rate.
    Note: The problem is not consistent. Sometimes I am facing the error and sometimes not.
    Thanks in advance
    Giridhar

    I think actdi is talking about loading an external database directly from the XML file using the jdbc XML driver, correct? I have not tried this yet, but am curious as to the results.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/integrate.1111/e12644/appendix_xml_driver.htm#CHDFIJEH
    Hope this works.
    Enjoy!

  • *N OVER MY HEAD! my iTunes library disappeared from my PC, TS said uninstall then reinstall, before I reinstalled though my ipad 2 said NOT ENOUGH MEMORY as I tried to update 1 app. What do I do now?

    Apparently, something went way wrong SOMEWHERE, SOMEHOW... and now I'm afraid of losing ALL MY MEDIA considering I have NO ITUNES ON MY LAPTOP! I followed all appropriate steps found in trouble shooting, when I reinstalled iTunes though, the reinstalled music on my pc was a handful of songs that were triplicates, even listed some five TIMES! And maybe a total of 20-25 different songs, a fraction of what I had initially!

    1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
    Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
    2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
    3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
    4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
    5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
    6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad
