Database migration from non rac and non asm to RAC database with ASM

HI,
i have requirement to import one database ( db1) which running one node with out ASM and with out RAC , now i want to import that database with rman backup to another database ( db2) which running on different server with 3 node RAC and ASM ( disk group +DATA ) , can you please provide me the steps how i can migrate.? ( i have created db2 with dbca with RAC).

Configuring Standby Database from non ASM to ASM

Hi All,
i am trying to configure a standby database from non ASM file system to ASM file system.
my primary database having datafiles in /u02,/u03,/u04 etc, and my Standby database having filesystem in ASM diskgroup DATA.
can anyone of you help me in setting up of parameters db_file_name_convert and log_file_name_convert etc,;

Moving spfile from non-asm to asm file system

Hi All
We are migrating non-asm file system to asm file system, we are held up in moving the spfile from non-asm file system to asm file system ...
we tried the below method
Recreate SPFILE on ASM diskgroup
SQL> create pfile='c:\initTEST.ora' from spfile;
File created.
SQL> create spfile='+DGRP2/spfileTEST.ora' from pfile='c:\initTEST.ora';
File created.
after this we started both the running instance and asm instance
but after starting the instance TEST we saw the instance still using spfile of non-asm file system
what is the correct way of moving the spfile from non-asm to asm file system..

You need to perform this first:
First rename the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/spfileTEST.ora to spfileTEST.ora_old
create initTEST.ora in dbs location with below contents:
Also i recommend you to recreate the spfile in ASM as it might not be in good shape.
When ever you start the oracle instance there is a specific order to find the oracle pfile/spfile
1. O_H/dbs/spfile<SID>.ora
2. O_H/dbs/init<SID>.ora
3. O_H/dbs/spfile.ora
4. O_H/dbs/init.ora
in your case instance always finds spfileTEST.ora in dbs location (non -ASM) and will stop looking further. If you remove it our of the way it will find initTEST.ora which will redirect to spfile present in ASM.
NOTE: As per your earlier update you created spfile in ASM after puttin spfile='+DG...' in the initTEST.ora..
If you start the instance with this SPFILE you will be getting "maxmimum cursors limit exceeded" error.

Migration Of Non-ASM 11g Database To ASM

Hi Team,
I have an instance with a standby database and Primary instance has been converted to Non-ASM to ASM(File System).
Currently i have online redolog files and standby logfiles in my primary instance and i need to recreate log files in ASM.
Do i need to convert standby instance in to ASM too?
If not, can I hold my primary log files in ASM path and keep standby server logfiles as it is?

Oracle allows a mix of ASM and non-ASM files at both Primary and Standby site.
The only issue is that it might confuse the next DBA when you have such a mix unless you document and explain this clearly.

CRS-0215 after migration from 9i RAC to 10gR2 RAC

I'm doing a dry-run migration on a test server to prepare for our migration and have had no problem migrating the data from OCFS to OCFS2, startup upgrade, etc. The only problem I have is I cannot bring the listener up via 'srvctl start nodeapps -n <node_name>'. I get CRS-0215, could not start resource, listener may already be running. It isn't. If I just do "lsnrctl start", then the listener comes up, I execute "srvctl start nodeapps -n <node_name>" and the VIP, ONS, and GSD all come up fine with the same listener error. From there I can bring both nodes up and the database is fine. How can I get the listener to come up via srvctl?
I've tried netca and pretty much get the same problem. If I try to add a listener and leave it as LISTENER it says that LISTENER already exists, use another name. I don't want to use another name, I want to use that listener :) What am I missing here. Thanks for any help. Even if I use another name, it still fails.

How to migrate from my old MacBook Pro to a new one with less disk space and an external hard drive?

I have just bought a new MacBook Pro and an external hard drive.
Yet I have problems migrating data from my old MacBook Pro (more internal disk space with around 500 GB data) to my new one (internal disk space less than 500 GB).
I have connected all 3 devices but it seems the Migration Assistant does not have an option for us to select to migrate to an external hard drive.
Any other way to do it?

Jsf 1.1 to jsf 1.2 migration - from-view-id and wildcards

In our jsf application, we have a lot of navigation cases that use:
<from-view-id>*</from-view-id>
This worked in JSF 1.1, but now trying to get things to work with jsf 1.2 in glassfish v2 (build 19) I am seeing this error/stacktrace in the server.log file (which points at the 1st faces-config.xml case of a * in the from-view-id tag):
javax.faces.FacesException: Can't parse configuration file: jndi:/server/talkshoe/WEB-INF/faces-config.xml: Error at line 1482 column 31: cvc-pattern-valid: Value '*' is not facet-valid with respect to pattern '#\{.*\}'.
at com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener.parse(ConfigureListener.java:1587)
From the documentation that I have found, it looks like * is still the valid wildcard...
Has anyone else hit this issue or have any other suggestions?

I'm currently migrating to 1.2. Our wildcard navigations are working with * or by omitting the from-view specifier as specified (section 7.4.2 of JSF 1.2).
One of my rules wasn't producing an outcome because I had from-action instead of from from-outcome, but after I changed this it worked fine.
This was with Netbeans 5.5 running SAS and JSF 1.2.

A general rule to follow is to make sure that WebLogic Server JTA timeout (either global, specific to an EJB or for individual transactions) is set to a lower value than the shortest timeout value configured/set for a participating XA resource (e.g., XA Transaction Timeout for Oracle XA JDBC connections). Not doing so can lead to an unexpected and inconsistent distributed transaction outcome, i.e., a participating XA Resource timing out before WebLogic Server JTA as the distributed transaction coordinator. The timed out XA Resource may take action to resolve its own part of the distributed transaction before WebLogic Server can take action. This will lead to heuristic error messages at the time when the WebLogic transaction manager tries to prepare/commit the distributed transaction.
The solution was for the JDBC Connection Pools to set the XASetTransactionTimeout to true and XATransactionTimeout to zero. When this parameter is set to zero, the XAResource Session Timeout will be set to the global transaction timeout.
