  • Migrating from 9i to 10g through exp/imp

    Hi,
    We need to migrate a database on 9i in HP-UNIX to 10g in IBM AIX. Can you please tell me whether i can export data in 9i with 9i export utility and import it into 10g using 10g data pump utility for faster import ?
    We don't have the 10g software installed in the HP-UNIX platform.
    And what other alternatives we have to reduce the amount of time for the migration process as it's a critical Production database ?
    Thanks,
    Jayanta

    I believe that Justin is correct that if you use exp to unload the data you will need to use imp and not impdp to reload the data.
    To speed up the cross-platform exp/imp process I suggest you consider running multiple concurrent exp/imp jobs. You can generate a table=list into a spool file using sql. You can give each large table its own exp job and bunch the small tables.
    Depending on how your database objects are organized you might also be albe to export by owner or a combination of owner, tables= exports.
    You can use a full=y with the rows=n option to grab the public synonyms, non-owning users, packages, etc.... not brought in by the prior exp/imp.

  • Using exp/imp to clone a database from Solaris to NT

    Hi All,
    We have an 8.1.6 Oracle database in production under Sun Solaris.
    We actually use this database to run Siebel CRM system.
    We have a Windows NT server which we used as a QA system
    for this application.
    We have a daily full export of our production database on the
    Sun machine. Now my manager wants to import this production
    dmp file into this Win NT database on a weekly basis.
    The goal here is to maintain the state of this NT database
    as much functional and close to the production one as possible.
    I would appreciate your help on this.
    I have some other general question:
    in which case can the Oracle imp utility be run in the
    full=y mode ?
    does this make any sense at all ?
    since the Oracle import utility does not delete
    any existing objects before it imports, these objects
    should be deleted manually and that's what I do
    with all Siebel users schemas; of course I do not
    do this with SYS, SYSTEM and other special Oracle
    users; question: are there any objects in these
    special Oracle schemas that have to be carried over from
    the source database to the target database to
    make the rest of the schemas functional ?
    Somehow I failed to find Oracle documentation on how
    to use exp/imp to create a complete clone of an Oracle
    database.
    Can direct path be used with full=y export/import mode ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Yuriy.

    As an alternative to using daily/weekly exports and imports, what would probably be more effective here would be replication. The databases could synch on a nightly basis and updated tables and rows will be transferred from your OLTP system to your read-only system. More information can be found on replication from "Oracle8i DBA Handbook" by Kevin Loney and Marlene Therialt.

  • Does anyone upgrade from 9iAS to 10g?

    Dear all,
    Does anyone upgrade from 9iAS to 10g only? The EBS version (11.5.8) and the oracle database version (9.2.0.4) are still same.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

    You can upgrade 9i database to 10g in Ebusiness suite using metalink note
    Note:362203.1 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i with Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0)
    Note:369693.1 Using Oracle Applications with a Split Configuration Database Tier on Oracle 10g Release 2
    But for the application server components you can follow
    Note:125767.1 Upgrading Developer 6i with Oracle Applications 11i
    But Application server itself should be upgraded from 9iAS to 10gAS if you are planning to move your oracle applications Ebusiness suite to release 12.
    Check the following metalink note

  • Report upgraded from 6i to 10g not displaying data.

    Hi,
    I upgraded one report from 6i to 10g,
    When I'm running the report for the same set of data.
    After changing the layout for few fields in the subframe.
    first time it has shown the data in the report output but now same report with same data is not displying the output.
    I'm sure this is due to some layout problem.(may be due to upgradation from 6i to 10g)
    Please guide me to resolve this problem.

    Hello,
    How do you execute your Reports ?
    Do you execute it from the Builder ?
    If you execute it from the Builder, do you use Run Web Layout or Run Paper Layout ?
    (If you have upgraded a Reports From 6i, there is no web layout , so you have to use the Run paper Layout
    The web layout is something new that appeared in Reports 9.0.2)

  • Issue in oracle upgrade from 9i to 10g.

    Hi,
    I have an MS access application running on oracle database.Recently database is upgraded from 9i to 10g.
    After upgrade application is facing the conversion problem.it is throwing an error on varchar and time stamp field showing invalid timestamp message.NLS setting of both the version is same.Please suggest.

    Thank you,
    Here are the answers of your queries.
    Yes,This is affecting only MS access application because no other application is accessing this database.
    No,No other component of the application is changed or upgraded it is only database which is upgraded.
    The error is ORA-06502:PL/SQL:numeric or value error:Character to number conversion error.(In the application the value of this field is defind as Double and in database table it is VarChar and the system was working fine untill database upgrade after upgrade it is giving above error.)
    For another field it is giving the error "No valid timestamp" although the same was working fine before upgrade.
    No I have not traced the actual sessions but from the backup of 9i I have checked NLS setting and compared it with 10g and found that both are the same.
    Hope I have not confused you.

  • Sorting issue after upgrade from 9i to 10g

    Dear all,
    It is found that the sorting behavior is different after upgrade from 9i to 10g.
    In 9i, even if the SQL statement does not specify the ORDER BY clause, the sorting order is consistent for a particular SQL statement and most likely the sequence follows the searched key fields' order.
    After upgrade to 10g, the query output could vary as long as the SQL statement does not specify the ORDER BY clause.
    Is it due to the Reverse Docid Sorting issue? How can I troubleshoot this issue?
    Thanks for your help,
    M.T.

    Thanks for your help,
    M.T. This is expected behavior in 10g. Oracle will not order the dataset for you unless and until you explicitly specify it.
    So without using order by clause in 10g, oracle doesn't guarantee that rows will be ordered.
    To go back to old behavior like 9i, you can set a workaround by
    alter session set "_newsort_enabled"=false;

  • Tag not being created after upgrade from 9i to 10g

    We're upgrading from 9i to 10g - about time - and we've hit some "unexpected behaviour".
    If I run
        SELECT  xmlelement("TestMsg",
                        XMLFOREST(m.tx_id   "MsgNum",
                                  m.tx_type "MsgTyp"
                                  ) MESSAGE -- this is the alias for the XMLFOREST item
                        ) ut_xml
        FROM (select 1 tx_id, 'test' tx_type from dual) mon my 9.2.0.4 database I get
    <TestMsg>
      <MESSAGE>
        <MsgNum>1</MsgNum>
        <MsgTyp>test</MsgTyp>
      </MESSAGE>
    </TestMsg>- an extra tag is created based on the alias of the XMLFOREST item.
    on my 10.2.0.4 database I get
    <TestMsg>
      <MsgNum>1</MsgNum>
      <MsgTyp>test</MsgTyp>
    </TestMsg>no MESSAGE tag.
    Some of the XML parsing we have is taking account of this MESSAGE tag and hence is now breaking.
    I guess my question is whether we've messed up the install of XMLDB or whether the 9i behaviour was incorrect and we should amend the parsing to the 10g behaviour.

    Behavior change...?
    SELECT  xmlelement("TestMsg",
                        xmlelement("MESSAGE",
                        XMLFOREST(m.tx_id   "MsgNum",
                                  m.tx_type "MsgTyp"
                        )) ut_xml
    FROM (select 1 tx_id, 'test' tx_type from dual) m
    will give output in 10.2.0.4.0 EE
    UT_XML
    <TestMsg>
       <MESSAGE>
          <MsgNum>1</MsgNum>
          <MsgTyp>test</MsgTyp>
       </MESSAGE>
    </TestMsg>Edited by: Marco Gralike on Mar 29, 2011 1:07 PM

  • Upgrade from 8i to 10g

    Can a direct upgrade from 8i to 10g is possible?
    OR
    Do we need to upgraded from 8i to 9i , before we upgrade to 10g?
    If we can migrate from 8i to 10g , directly please suggest me the metalink note number.
    Thanks
    Naveen

    Dear Naveenanand,
    I Agree with Jaffy!,
    You can direct upgrade only if the current version is 8.1.7 or up. If this is not your case, you will need Upgrade to an intermediate Oracle Database release before you can upgrade to the new Oracle Database 10g release.
    Here is a example:
    8.0.n -> 8.1.7.4 -> 10.2
    8.1.n -> 8.1.7.4 -> 10.2
    All information you will need, you can found in this link:

  • Database upgradation from 10.2.0.3 to 11 R2

    Hi
    I am planning to upgrade my production database from 10.2.0.3 to 11.2. Before doing into production am testing it into our Test server in Linux OS. I got manual procedure of database upgradation from metalink. I installed Oracle 11g as software only into my test server. Now in step 2 , they describe as under
    $ sqlplus '/ as sysdba'
    SQL> spool upgrade_info.log
    SQL> @utlu112i.sql
    SQL> spool off
    SQL>
    My query is : I will run the script utlu112i.sql from which home ? Oracle 10g ? oracle 11g?
    Please give me your wise suggestion.
    Regards
    Rabi

    Hi Rabi,
    First of all go to location (Oracle 11g) $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin and
    copy the utlu112i.sql script to /tmp directory.
    Now login to 10g database “/ as sysdba” and startup the 10g database, then:
    SQL> spool /tmp/upgrade_info.log
    SQL> @/tmp/utlu112i.sql
    SQL> spool off
    Hope this will help you.

  • Database upgrade from 10.2.0.3.0 to 11.1.0.7

    Hi All,
    OS:linux 86x64 Red Hat linux
    We would like to perform Database upgrade from 10.2.0.3.0 to 11.1.0.7.
    I do have quick questions regarding the upgrade.
    1. When we upgrade the Database to version 11, do we need to update the client also? What is Oracle recommendation?
    2. Do we need to take any DB backup before the upgrade?
    3. How will the OBIEE windows box ODBC connect to the upgraded 11 g instance? Will the version 10 driver work to connect to version 11 databases?
    4. We have Informatica,DAC in the existing instance. Will the DB upgrade have any impact on them?
    Could anyone please share their experience/thoughts on the above like the steps to perform the upgrade.
    Thanks for your time!

    Hi,
    Hi All,
    OS:linux 86x64 Red Hat linux
    We would like to perform Database upgrade from 10.2.0.3.0 to 11.1.0.7.
    I do have quick questions regarding the upgrade.
    1. When we upgrade the Database to version 11, do we need to update the client also? What is Oracle recommendation?Just 11g upgrade will include all cient/Server tools on you Linux Box. On client side its recommended to upgrade client version 11.1.0.7.
    Please refer MOS tech note:
    *Oracle 10g Client Connecting To Oracle 11g Database Gets ORA-01017 invalid username/password [ID 888432.1]*
    2. Do we need to take any DB backup before the upgrade?Yes, perform full cold backup of Database as well as 10G $ORACLE_HOME binaries including inventories.
    3. How will the OBIEE windows box ODBC connect to the upgraded 11 g instance? Will the version 10 driver work to connect to version 11 databases?AFAIK, it should work. What is the version of OBIEE?
    4. We have Informatica,DAC in the existing instance. Will the DB upgrade have any impact on them?Again AFAIK, there should not be any effect. I would recommend you to log a S.R and verify the same from support.

  • Upgrading from 9i to 10g on OS X?

    Has anybody successfully upgraded from 9i to 10g on OS X?
    I am stuck with Mac OS X 10.2.6 Jaguar for the next several weeks until I can upgrade to 10.3.4 Panther. According to the Oracle 10g on OS/X Oracle Installation Errata Information and Tools ( see http://www.crispdata.com/oracle_osx/ ), 10.3.4 is required for 10g installation.
    In the meantime, I would prefer to experiment with 9i to learn more about Oracle database technology, and then upgrade to 10g after upgrading the OS to 10.3.4.
    Has anybody already done this? Is this feasible?

    Would it be sufficient to just set the passwords to expired? In this case generated the needed statements on your source DB and apply them on your destination DB, i.e.
    select 'alter user ' || username || ' password expire;' from dba_users where account_status like 'EXPIRED%';
    You might also consider other status values. Possible values are
    OPEN
    EXPIRED
    EXPIRED(GRACE)
    LOCKED(TIMED)
    LOCKED
    EXPIRED & LOCKED(TIMED)
    EXPIRED(GRACE) & LOCKED(TIMED)
    EXPIRED & LOCKED
    EXPIRED(GRACE) & LOCKED
    e.g.
    select 'alter user ' || username || ' account lock;' from dba_users where account_status like '%LOCK%';

  • Testing while doing the database upgrade from 9.2.0.6 to 11.2.0.2 apps ?

    Dear Experts,
    Please note that we are in process of doing database upgrade from 9.2.0.6 to 11.2.0.2 ?
    We have gone through the interoperablity note id for 11i 11gr2 ?
    Step 1
    upgrading the database from 9.2.0.6 to 9.2.0.8 ?
    Step 2-
    Upgrading the Forms patchset to 19 ?
    Step-3
    Applying the Rollup-6 patch ?
    Step -4
    Upgrading the database from 9.2.0.8 to 11.2.0.2 ?
    We would like to know whether after each step do we have to do any kind of testing on the Oracle Application Instance and the database?
    Please advise.
    Regards
    Mohammed.

    We would like to know whether after each step do we have to do any kind of testing on the Oracle Application Instance and the database?There is no such a list. However, you can refer to the documents referenced in each task above and it should cover if any testing need to be done or not (for example, the Developer Patchset doc). For the rest of the docs you will have to do your regular testing (test the application/database and make sure it is working properly).
    Also, make sure you review (Known issues on Top of 11i.ATG_PF.H. delta.6 (RUP6) - 5903765 [ID 459353.1]).
