Date format in 11G

Hi,
I am new to OBIEE 11g report development so please excuse my daft question. In report Analysis one of the date column with value NULL is displaying value *00--0*. I have tried to format this column in "Column Properties" as well is "Conditional Format" but no result(I like to see blank in this column). If there is a date value in the column then its diplaying correctly DD-MON-YYYY. Any suggestion where to look to fix this issue.
Thanks in advance.
D

In the properties of the column in the physical layer of your repository, is the check box "can be null" checked ?
Cheers

I have a Support Request open with Oracle right now (it's taking a few weeks to resolve) but here's the update:
OBIEE 10g handles DATE types differently than 11g. Both the support rep and I can't figure out how, but they are different. If you bring the column in as a DATETIME in your Physical Layer you can't save it system-wide, even if you do set a time zone for your account (My Account -> Preferences -> Time Zone). If you bring the column in as DATE you can save it system-wide but you can't display the hours/mins/secs, only the M/D/Y. This has been tested on a 9i and 10g database and produced the same thing on both. The problem never occurred with those same columns using OBIEE 10g.
Oracle support has not fully admitted this as a bug, but the rep working on this SR said this will probably be fixed in the next release- 11.1.1.4, which is due out late Jan/early Feb of this year. He is trying to reproduce this so he can log it as a bug (which we all are hoping for!) so Oracle can address it.
For now, I've found that you are stuck with two options: 1) bring the column in as a DATE, display it system-wide as a saved format, but you can't show the time, and 2) don't save that date value with a system-wide formatting and set it manually on every report you need a custom format (don't forget to set your time zone).
If I hear anything more back from Oracle support I'll update this thread.
Sorry guys, looks like we're all stranded on this one...

• DATE Format Error in ODI-11g(11.1.1.3)

I am using ETL transformations in ODI-11g. There's a dominant issue regarding date formattings when I map an ODI variable (storing date) with a TGT column(datatype=date) mappings.
In all the src-tgt mappings I am formatting the date by using TO_DATE() functions. But still getting the error:
"ORA-01830: date format picture ends before converting entire input string".
A point to Note: The same ETL in other env are ruuning fine but in my new dev env it's giving this date error.
I had checked with the DBA folks and they confirmed they set equal DATE settings in all the env.
The ODI Variable is defined as an "Alphanumeric".
Tx Used: #BUSINESS_CURRENT_DT=TO_DATE('Date','YYYY-MM-DD')
Require some urgent advice...Please let me know

Hi,
W store name-value pair in the Control table from where we exctract our data. Both (param name and param value) are varchars.
Well this looks pretty strange in 11g! Here's what we found out...
If you are trying to retrieve a date variable by using TO_DATE() in the refresh query the ODI Java driver (JDK 1.6) would call java.sql.timestamp and gracefully attach HH:MI:SS.NS along with the date (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS.NS). My target ia a date always..!
So, when I do: TO_DATE('20101010','YYYY-MM-DD) in the refresh query ODI stores it as '2010-10-10 00:00:00.0'
For this the Load always fails as Oracle would not be able to interpret a timestamp by suing TO_DATE()
The Java driver does this damage. However, it may be wise to store as a timestamp rather as a date if in case u do a Data capture and want the exact time credentials.
Unfortunately not a req, as of now for us so I had to chop-off the timestamp..!
Let me know if you find any other details...
Thanks.!

• Not able to save date column with custom date format. in OBIEE 11g

Hi,
I have migrated one report from OBIEE 10g to 11g. There is a date column with customized date format(i.e. Default format is 'dd-MMM-yyyy' and I have used 'MMM-yyyy').

This HTML might be present in column headings, table headings, text views, narrative views, the print header,

so
1- Stop BI Server from EM
2- Navigate to this Location C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\display. in your case oracle home will be different
3- take a backup of this file localedefinitions.xml "

• Default Date Format in ADF 11g RC

Dear All,
I am searching for a possibility to set a default date format pattern ("yyyy-MMM-dd") in an ADF 11g RC application.
I know that I can set this format in every entity/view object's attributes. But I am looking for a central way.
I already tried to override the javax.faces.convert.DateTimeConverter and configured it in the faces-config.xml.
But without success.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Richard

Hi,
in another post of yours I pointed you to the trinidad-config.xml file - so you may want to have a look there. Also maybe property sets can give you a helping hand

Error is because of invalid date format.
You need to bring data in required format. As I remember you can configured it in one of the AD configuration lookup.

• Obiee 11g upgrade issue for date format

Hi,
I am facing a date format issue with obiee 11g report. This statement cast(cast(current_date as char) as timestamp) is failing with "not a valid month" error in obiee 11g. This worked fine with obiee 10g.
I am basically trying to set the date to 12:00:00 am of the sysdate. Below is what I am trying to achieve:
timestampadd(sql_tsi_hour, 1, cast(cast(current_date as char) as timestamp)))
the above statement fails in obiee 11g.
Thanks for your help,
AP

I dont think you need any functions to get the required output, try to set the date format as below
[FMT:timeStampShort]
If helps mark
Thanks

I think with format and then the below should work with no issues.
timestampadd(sql_tsi_hour, 1,current_date)
I think you are wasting time by posting here, just do it. You no need any ones permissions to do it ;)

• Date format mismatch between OIM 11gR2 GTC and backend custom database table (Oracle 11g R2)

Hi,
We have an OIM 11g R2 version running that has a GTC installed and configured. The GTC is used to provision to a 11g R2 database table via the DBAT 9.1.0.5.0 connector. Now the requirement is that the timestamp be recorded in the backend DB when a new record is provisioned to it using the GTC.
During the setup of the GTC, the target system date format is asked for should be one from among the values allowed by the following predefined formats:
Customizing Formats (The Java™ Tutorials > Internationalization > Formatting)
Now our problem is that the target DB to which the provisioning is supposed to happen, isn't under our control and hence we cannot change its schema, and the date format in that table is of the type "01-JAN-10 12.00.00.000000000 AM", which translates to "dd-MMM-yy hh.mm.ss.fffffffff (AM/PM)".
On the other hand, as you can see from the above link, none of the values that OIM allows to be passed through the GTC allow for that format to be used.
Does anyone know of any way in which we can intercept the GTC provisioning request and convert the date on the fly, after OIM has passed on the control, but before the values are written into the DB table, or does anyone know of any workarounds to this issue?
I'd really appreciate it if someone could provide a solution to this.
Thanks.

See 26.6 for the plugin.zip directory structure, and as I said, I used the same method on a previous task in the same OIM instance.

• Date Format in Oracle 11g XE

Hello everyone,
I have installed Oracle11XE and noticed that it has the following date format:
SQL> SHOW PARAMETER NLS_DATE_FORMAT
NAME TYPE VALUE
nls_date_format string RR-MM-DD
I know that I can change the format for the session, like this:
alter session set nls_date_format = 'DD-MON-YY';
I also know that to change the system parameter I need to do the following:
alter system set nls_date_format = 'DD-MON-YY' scope=spfile;
then restart the database.
However, after I do the latter, the date format is still:
SQL> select sysdate from dual;
SYSDATE

Could someone tell me why this is happening and correct this?..

• Date format in OBIEE 11g is changed.

Hi,
we have installed 11.1.1.5 on linux x86-64bit machine. after that we upgraded the OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 rpd and catalog to OBIEE 11.1.1.5.
everything was working fine at this stage.
After that we did some development in 10g ... and again upgraded the rpd and catalog to 11.1.1.5 using upgrade assistant.
but after that the date format in all the date prompts on the dashboards is changed to MM/dd/YYYY.
How to change it back to dd/MM/YYYY?

Hi Visal,
Please award points it is useful the above answer.
2. After installation the date format default : DD-MM-YYYY.
I am not sure, I think you need install patch file in this version on your server or you need to change ALTER SESSION set NLS_DATE_FORMAT = 'DD/MM/YYYY'.
I though this is bug in server version.
What server its showing this format means(Unix,Linux,AIX)?
Award points it is useful.

• [11g] Date format when printing dashboard prompt

Hello,
i have a dashboard prompt with a between condition on a date format. When i display it on the dashboard, the format is perfect dd.mm.yyyy. But when i want to print the dashboard, the format is shown as yyyy-mm-dd. On the forum i found a hint about the localedefinitions.xml (Printer-friendly date format But there, the definition is ok
<property name="dateShortFormat">dd.MM.yyyy</property> // default short date format for locale
So, how can i change the format to dd.mm.yyyy when printing the dashboard. Any advice?
Thanks
Martin

Davison,
Its not possible using user settings. All you would need to do is copy the SAP SCRIPTForm program(You can keep the Print program as such) and set date mask as required in SAP script text editor using command
/: SET DATE MASK = 'MMMM DD, YYYY'
Now the date variable value written out on the screen would be
&DATE& -> JAN  01, 2010
You could revert to standard settings using command
/: SET DATE MASK = ' '
