Date & Time won't change

I tell the date & time preference panel to set the clock to current Pacific Time. Yet when I close the panel, the date & time reverts to GMT current time. Is there a plist that may be corrupted and I have to delete?

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to print it out as the Mac involved is at my sister's house, 70 miles away.
BTW, I determined that it only changed to GMT if I enabled "Set date & time automatically. From your referenced post, it sounds like there may be a mismatch between what the Date & Time Control Panel says and what is actually set.
So if com.apple.preferences.timezone.selected_city shows GMT, then I should delete that pref, restart and let a new one be created, correct?

I hope someone can help me with this weird problem!

  • Date & Time won't show in Menu Bar

I just installed the latest automatic update for Leopard and now in the right hand side of the menu bar only shows the Default Folder X icon and the Spotlight icon (my bluetooth, infared, airport icons and date & time are missing).
I go to the Date & Time preferences and click the option to have it appear, but when I close that window or just switch to another tab on that same window, it resets it back to being unchecked.
I know, of course, to unlock these settings and tried locking them or leaving them unlocked in hopes it would actually "lock in" my choice of settings, but with no such luck.
If anyone knows how to get my other icons back where they belong I'd appreciate that as well.

I actually don't use "Default Folder" at all, it came with Leopard.
But this problem didn't come up until the latest updates.
There was a file permissions error in running activity Monitor, though.

No luck here, as well. Although the file I was supposed to delete in ByHost wasn't there, so maybe that has something to do with it.

  • Date & Time: Can't Change Year on a User Profile

I have multiple profiles on my Mac.  One of the profiles has a year of "2556," even though I have it set to sync automatically via time.apple.com.  Now when I log into a different user profile, the year is current "2015."  I've unchecked to "set date and time automatically" and tried to change it manually on the user profile in question, but unable to change it.
Any suggestions on how to force a change on a profile?

Good link.  The Language & Region was a good place to look.  Attempting to restore defaults was not an option.  However the Region was pointing to Africa.  Once I changed that, everything else fell in place.
    Thanks!

  • How can I change database date/time(Sysdate) without changing OS date

    Hello all,
I have a need to change the sysdate on a database for testing purposes and need to set the database date to a future date(ex. 6/30/2009). I have 2 other instances on the same server so changing the OS date is not an option. I'm familiar with setting the sysdate to a fixed value, but doing so changes the date to a constant because I still need the time to elapse. I've searched the forum and cannot find a way to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Changing date & time under eventlog

Would like to know how to adjust date & time settings in the eventlog view for my Cisco 1400 bridge. Tx!

There are two things going on here.
    1. When you change the capture date/time (Date Time Original), the change is immediately reflected in the EXIF portion of the Metadata panel in the Library module. Because this is a metadata change, the warning arrow appears on the thumbnail (if you have that set to show in the View Options)....and clicking on that arrow brings up the "Metadata changed, do you want to save to disk" dialog. Note that this happens when you do any kind of metadata change, not just changing the date/time. At that point you can either decide to write the metadata to disk, or not.....if you typically write your metadata changes to XMP I guess you'd say "Save", but if you don't then just ignore it. Of course if you say "Save" then Lightroom will do as requested and write the Metadata, if it's a DNG,JPEG,TIFF etc, the Metadata is written to the XMP section of the file header....but if it's a proprietary RAW then it's written to an XMP sidecar.
    2. The second thing is that if you have the option set in the Catalog Settings to write date/time changes into proprietary raw files, then the change that you make is reflected in the Raw file.....this is a different change to the XMP update.

  • Changing date/time ...

I have a question about changing date and time ... thanks a lot in advance.
I have .CR2 files and I want to change the "date time original" info ... I want to change this info in the raw file, so I clicked on the "write date or time changes to into proprietary raw files" check box in the catalog settings window ... and then, after changing date/time with the "edit capture time", Lightroom wants to save changes and after clicking the arrow on the thumbnail, it creates a sidecar file. If date/time changes is to write directly into raw file (because of catalog settings indicated above), why does Lightroom create sidecar .xmp file?

  • How to get Inserted Date in Headers to change daily

Using the latest version of Pages, how can I insert the Date and Time in a Header so that it changes automatically on a new date?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hello Sol Berger
To change the setting on the inserted Data & Time, either right click or option click the date and there is an option that says Automatically update on open that would need to be checked to update when you open the document.
Pages '09: Adding Page Numbers and Other Changeable Values
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10343
To add and format the date and time, place the insertion point where you want the value to appear, and then choose Insert > Date & Time.
To change the date and time format, Control-click the date and time value, choose Edit Date & Time, and then choose a date and time format from the pop-up menu. If you want the document to always show the current date and time, select “Automatically update on open.”
    Regards,

  • How do I stop auto update of date/time

    Hi,
I'm starting to despair, a while ago I stupidly clicked on auto update/time on a letter I was working on, it seemed like a good idea at the time. But now whenever I open any letter the date is automatically updated which is a major problem as I am losing the references to when I actually wrote and therefore sent these letters. I'm too scared to open letters now because I'll lose this important piece of information.
    Any help appreciated!
    Thanks
    Nathalie

Next time, don't use the Pages 's insert date_time feature.
Use the one delivered in the free WordService from Devon Technologies.
It always inserts a fixed date_time.
But I have wondering about your problem.
    The Pages User Guide states:
    • To add and format the date and time, place the insertion point where you want the value to appear, and then choose Insert > Date & Time.
To change the date and time format, Control-click the date and time value, choose Edit Date & Time, and then choose a date and time format from the pop-up menu. *If you want the document to always show the current date and time, select “Automatically update on open.”*
Which, if I understand well means that the default setting is that the inserted date_time is a frozen (fixed) one.

  • PTP camera - how to retain date/time stamp on photos [Gnome]

I have a USB PTP Camera that comes up in Nautilus under "gphoto2://[usb:001,007]/DCIM"  I can copy/paste the photos off the thing to ~ but the date/time stamp gets changed to the present.  How can I copy them over retaining the original date/time stamp?

By using the exif info I suppose.
    http://linux.die.net/man/1/exiv2
    -t
Set the file timestamp according to the Exif create timestamp in addition to renaming the file (overrides -k). This option is only used with the 'rename' action.

  • Date Time Original different in Lightroom and Bridge

Why is it that the Date Time Original in Lightroom is affected by whatever time zone the PC is set to? This is not the case in Bridge.
    Example:
I fly from San Francisco to Washington DC and set my notebook's time zone from Pacific Time to Eastern Time upon arrival. I also make the necessary adjustment to the Time on my camera. I shoot a photo at 6pm in Washington DC, upload it to my notebook and import it into Lightroom. Lightroom shows a Date Time Original of 6pm. So does Bridge. So far so good.
I return back to San Francisco and set my notebook's time zone back to Pacific Time. In Lightroom, the Date Time Original of that photo is now 3pm. In Bridge, it still gives a Date Time Original of 6pm.
Confusing? Yes, especially when traveling across lots of different time zones. In some cases, the Date Time Original will change not only the time, but the Date as well (if the change crosses midnight).
Try it for yourself. Take a look at the Date Time Original of any given photo in Lightroom, change the Time Zone on your PC, and see the Time change for yourself.
Since Bridge and Lightroom are both Adobe products, I have to wonder why they display EXIF times differently. Is this a bug? Or intentional?

I have been als been plagued by LR displaying the capture time to be, say 3 AM (03:00), when I know I took the picture at 1 PM (13:00). I decided to try and see why this happens. With the help of Phil Harvey's exiftool, I can see that my Canon cameras embed the time into the EXIF data without any time zone information i.e.: Date/Time Taken = 2008:04:02 16:09:23.
    Here is what I found:
If the image is now edited with Bridge, the information is changed to: Date/Time Taken = 2008:04:02 16:09:23-08:00 (time zone of the editing computer for the date the image was made. In this case the date was before daylight savings time started.)
When edited with GeoSetter (good for adding GPS information) the information is changed to: Date/Time Taken = 2008:04:02 16:09:23+02:00 (time zone for Cairo where the picture was taken.)
Lastly edited with LR, the information is changed to: Date/Time Taken = 2008:04:02 16:09:23-08:00
When the above images are viewed in LR, using PDT, they display the time as 17:09:23 except for the image tagged with the Cairo time, which displays 07:09:23. If the computer's time zone is changed the displayed time changes accordingly.
If the images are displayed with Photoshop CS3 all the times are correctly displayed as 16:09:23 as one would expect.
It appears that the factoring in of the time zone into the displayed time was a conscious decision by the Adobe designers. A decision that several of us are not happy with.

  • Metadata Date Time

I have set the time in my 5D III to London with the daylight savings time modification activated.  I live in the Eastern Time Zone.  There are four different date/time entries in my Metadata panel with current entries from one image shown.  I am unable to find any information about how these operate.  They are:
    Metadata Date                  8/18/2012 1:20:39 PM
Date Time Original            8/18/2012 4:49:58 PM
Date Time Digitized           8/18/2012 4:49:58 PM
    Date Time                         8/18/2012 1:20:39 PM
As shown the “Metadata Date” and “Date Time” have been changed from UCT to EDT, but these times are different from “Date Time Original” and “Date Time Digitized” by 19 seconds after accounting for the time zone difference.
Can someone give some light about these entries and how they work?
    Thanks,
    Wil

Not all but some of the information for which you are asking.
 Date/time original specifies when a photo was taken
 Date/time digitized specifies when an image was digitized
 Date/time modified specifies when a file was modified by the user

    Is a good starting place.

  • Can't configure date/Time Change by command in W7

    Hello,
I need to synchronize all my computers, we got a program who does that (and it works), but not on Windows 7.
Doing a research I found that is for the administrator privileges. I assume there are two ways for solving my issue.
     1) Launch the command as administrator.
     2) Change the privileges of who can change the date/time.
About 1), I haven't found nothing of how I can launch it as administrator by program. I know I can do right click and "Launch as administrator" but I need to do it without a mouse and keyboard.
About 2), I already did this: Edit Group Policy/Local Policy/User Rights Assignment/Change the system Time. And I set it to "All Users". But it doesn't work.Yes, I reboot after changes.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi Gustavo,
If you mean to synchronize time in Windows 7 and assume we are in a domain environment, the first blog shared by britishdhez is a good reference.

  • Date & time change frequently on startup. antivirus stops working also.

For the past month the date & time are changed when I start my computer, an HP Pavilion  Elite m9077c with Vista. It doesn't happen everytime, but about 2/3 of the time. I can't download my email until the date is corrected, I get onscreen messeges that Windows media player won't work, & the status of Norton antivirus is frequently changed to "not protected". After restoring the correct date everything seems OK. What is going on? Is this the cms battery going bad , does my computer have a virus? When I run the   Hardware diagnostic tool in the PC help & tools folder I get no indication that the cms battery is bad.

    tk797,
As the CMOS battery is supposed to retain date and time, and that is the issue, I would replace it.

  • Time Zone won't save in Date & Time = Mac Mail Time Stamp problem

Hi, My Macbook Pro (2.53 Core 2 Duo) (OS 10.5.8) won't keep the time zone I set up in Date and Time under System Preferences.  It causes my Mac Mail outgoing timestamp to be GMT rather than PST.  I have saved it as PST (w/ lock) but It reverts back to GMT and I am unsure what else to try.  Thanks for your ideas on fixing this.

What binding do you have set on the Date/Time field? If it's set to None, change it to normal and it should work fine.
