DB migration from 9i to 10g (in a new server) using a cold backup

We have a cold backup of a 9.2.0.5 database,
we would like to migrate this 9i DB to a new server with only 10g software already installed.
1- can we use DBUA to do the migration?
2- should we start the database before running DBUA?
3- if yes then we need to prepare the pfile, and the password file?
we would like to avoid installing 9i in the new server

I have to Install 10g on Solaris 10 on a new server and then move my old >database which is 9i on Solaris 9 to the new box. I'm not sure how to go about >doing all this right since I'm new in the dba field and this is production.How much down time you have to perform this activity?
How big is your database?
Since you're moving the database from one server to another, You have to proceed with Export/import or datapump export/import(only if you can upgrade your 9i database to 10g).

Don't migrate wirelessly unless you have a very fast wireless connection. Anything other than 5 GHz 802.11n is likely to take an unacceptable amount of time.

we are planning to migrate to SAP Crystal Server 2011 with Crystal Reports 2011 as the designer.Can we do this migration directly or do we need to do the migration to an intermediate version before going to SAP Crystal Server 2011.

That is correct. For XI R2, it would be XI R2 SP2 minimum. And you need to have a live installation of XI R2 SP2 as SAP does not have it in archieve download area.

I am not sure if that will work with success, If the reports migrated from CE10 do not work in CRS2011, it would be unsupported. You can however try it anyways.

Yes you can do that. Try opening and running them in CR2011, they should work but some of them can also result in some errors here and their, this is more specific to report design and what kind of grouping\ filtering\formulas you use.

I suggest that you start over, boot into Internet recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, erase and reformat the HD with one partition and GUID option, quit Disk Utility, restore the OS, and on first boot, use the Setup Assistant to migrate from the MacBook, following the steps in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide. If that doesn't solve your problem, contact Apple's Support. If they recommend the same steps, I'd opt to return the machine and get another (you can do that the first 14 days you own it, no questions asked).

what method are you using? Firewire, ethernet, wireless? I'm assuming you are doing this via Migration Assistant. You can't speed it up if it is in process, but you can use a faster method if available to you. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4413

Restore from the iCloud backup - assuming that you were backing up to iCloud in the first place. If you weren't using iCloud for backup - then you are out of luck.
If you were backing up to iCloud - you have to erase all contents on the iPad in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings - before you can restore from the iCloud backup.

I need to install Oracle Database Satnadard 10g on my new server Dell PowerEdge 2900.
First I need to install the LINUX on it, can any tell me what is the best for the Oracle DB:
- RedHat ES or Suse 9 or Suse 10, I work with slackware in preasent time.
- ext3 or reiserfs ist best for DB
- how I can make partitions for Linux and Oracle

RedHat ES or Suse 9 or Suse 10, I work with slackware in preasent time.RHEL 4 is simple and there is TONS of info on installing/supporting Oracle on it. I would use that.
ext3 or reiserfs ist best for DBActually, this might surprise you but for the Oracle stuff you might want to use plain old ext2. Journaling on tablespace files (and redo logs) isn't so much fun. Use ext3 for your root partition though.
how I can make partitions for Linux and OracleI would do /, /tmp, and /oracle at a minimum. If this is going to be an Oracle server and not something people have shell access to, you don't need /boot, /home, /var, and /usr to be separate partitions.
Storage controller Perc5iDoes the perc5i allow more than 4 disks per volume? If so, do 6xHDD on a RAID10. Otherwise, to 2xHDD on a RAID1 for / and /tmp and do 4xHDD in a RAID10 for /oracle.

I don't use iCloud back up, but I understand you can do that.
It's always better to use a mac/PC based back up, I'd only consider the iCloud back up if I didn't have a mac.

Report generation failed after migrated from 6i to 10g.

Hi All,
i have migrated the 6i application to 10g.
There was a report which was generated in .html format and saved to a remote server location.
Now after migration to 10g,when i run the report through the URL ,It is still generated on the same remote server location but the it is not showing in the application interface.

It the error is occurring at position 60, then it looks like you don't have privileges on dual. Login as SYS and
GRANT SELECT ON dual TO PUBLIC;You may need synonyms (perhaps public synonyms) for the objects, too.
