  • 10g R2 dbca fails in Solaris 10

    Hi,
I am facing the following problem in Solaris 10 SPARC 64 bit machine.
    1.     Downloaded Oracle 10g R2 installable from oracle
    2.     Created user oracle and group dba and modified project settings and permissions as per quick installation guide
    3.     Installation of software is successful. But dbca fails with following error message.
    ORA-19624: operation failed, retry possible
ORA-19870: error reading backup piece /vol1/ora10gr2/product/10.2.0/Db_1/assistants/dbca/templates/Seed_Database.dfb
ORA-19587: error occurred at reading 0 bytes at block number 1
    ORA-27091: unable to queue I/O
ORA-27067: size of I/O buffer is invalid
    4.     I also tried creating scripts using dbca and running it manually. It fails with following error message in trace file
Corrupt block 1 found during reading backup piece, file=/ora10gr2/ora10gr2/product/10.2.0/Db_1/assistants/dbca/templates/Seed_
    Database.dfb, corr_type=3
    5.     Creation of custom database also fails with similar error message
It is Solaris 10 (Solaris 10 11/06 s10s_u3wos_10 SPARC) machine with patch level 125100-05 . Please help.
    Regards
    Vijoy

In both cases, there it is shown a block corrupt for database file 1, that means the install media was originally corrupt and the corruption was at the seed database files.
Check the media consistency to discover if corruption was originally there. In case it was redownload the zip file for solaris and unzip it somewhere else. Look for the seed database files at the ORACLE_HOME/assistants/dbca/templates and replace them.
When you created by scripts, ensure the option where the scripts only is selected, do not try to create the database by means of the dbca, run scripts from the OS.

  • DBCA (10gR2) in solaris 10 doesn't create DB, has 0 errors

    Hi,
I have oracle 10.2.0.1 installed on a Solaris 10 SPARC box, and am trying to create a database. When I installed Oracle, I originally opted to create a new database, but when it got to the DBCA section, the installer seems to pause with the results stating it's "in progress...". I stopped the installer, and cancelled the install. On checking the logs, there were no errors, it just seems to stop (even if I leave it for 14+ hours) with the last lines of the log being:
INFO: Configuration assistant "Oracle Net Configuration Assistant" succeeded
    INFO: Command = /export/home/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_3/bin/dbca -progress_only
-createDatabase -templateName General_Purpose.dbc -gdbName orcl -sid orcl -sy

    n /export/home/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_3/install/oratab -recoveryAreaDestinati
    on NO_VALUE
Then I installed Oracle without creating a db thinking I could create a database alone with DBCA. The installer completed successfully, but dbca isn't completing at all. It launches fine, I can progress through all the steps/panes no problems. When I get to the last pane to select db creation options, I have "Create Database" and "Generate Database Creation Scripts" checked, then I click Finish. A window opens with a summary, I click OK and that window closes. Then nothing happens. Nothing at all. No errors in the terminals, and I'm looking at the last pane of the DBCA as if it didn't do anything at all. I can uncheck the creation options and click Finish again, but I get no notification windows, and the app just seems to be open, but not doing anything. I can "Cancel" out of it though. No scripts directory is added either.
Any suggestions on how I can create a db??
    Thanks!

    Hello there,
I know this topic is quite old now but maybe my solution would help someone else...
I met the exact same problem than user10494040. I'm running Debian Etch (but the problem was the same with a Lenny) which was installed from a netinstall CD, and on which I've met all the prerequisites given by Oracle ( [Configuring Linux for the Installation of Oracle Database 10g|http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gdb/install/linuxpreinst/linuxpreinst.htm] )
It was impossible for me to successfully complete the Oracle installation when the database creation option was selected in OUI, as well as the Basic Installation or the Advanced one was choosen.
I've done many tests and each time I unselected the database creation option, the installation completed successfully. So I decided to try to create my database using DBCA in command line, using the command automatically generated by OUI and on which the installation froze, just adding to it the -silent option and removing the -progress_only one.
Note :_ if your installation really freeze on the database creation command, you can also find the DBCA command automaticaly generated in the log file of the installation (available in the folder oraInventory/logs/installActions####.log where #### is the date you attempted to make your installation).
For example, with the command given by user10494040 it would looks like :
    # dbca -silent -createDatabase -templateName General_Purpose.dbc -gdbName orcl -sid orcl -sysPassword 052b3cccab83184dd1ba5e728aa1ff1e189a90088c2da70291 -systemPassword 053e5dc6ab23642c16821c915b858ddc23d87c4a357e140d8e -sysmanPassword 05b123a3abe32968b37230926a9bfc13f4d4ef5e52f01e095d -dbsnmpPassword 058be1aeaba392a9299e7d3d8215720402fe045d76a03d4506 -emConfiguration LOCAL -datafileJarLocation /export/home/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_3/assistants/dbca/templates -datafileDestination /export/home/oracle/product/10.2.0/oradata/ -responseFile NO_VALUE -characterset WE8ISO8859P1 -obfuscatedPasswords true -sampleSchema true -oratabLocation /export/home/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_3/install/oratab -recoveryAreaDestination NO_VALUE
Of course, launch this command loggued as oracle, and make sure your $ORACLE_HOME is well set.
This trick worked for me, I hope that would help someone else :-)

  • ORA-27102: out of memory on Solaris 10 when running dbca

    Hi,
This is a new box T2000 running the latest update of Solaris 10.
I installed 10gR2 and its latest patch 4547817.
When running dbca, when it tries to do clone database, it fails with ORA-27102.
I have already set shared memory limits for oracle account using prctl.
    projadd -U oracle -K "project.max-shm-memory=(priv,4294967295B,deny)" user.oracle
I tried increasing the limit to 8GB. It didn't work. The system has 32GB of memory.
When I trussed the process I saw quite a few cals of shmget failing with EINVAL.
Any ideas how I can fix this.
    Thanks,
    ..Senthil

I had the same problem and managed to solve it. The problem is with your shared memory settings.
By default, Oracle 10 will allocate 40% of the total system RAM to the SGA and PGA.
On my T2000 with 16GB of RAM this equates to ~6.5GB. Using the value of 4GB for the SHM as stated in the Oracle installation docs is therefore too low. I set the value to 8GB and the database created without problems.
On your 32GB machine, assuming you are using the default 40% allocation, your minimum shared memory requiredment will be ~13GB. Working on the principal of setting it a little higher to get things working (you can always reduce it later), I would set 'project.max-shm-memory' to 16GB and try re-running DBCA.

  • Problems wit creating a new database on solaris wit dbca ORA 09925/ORA-1031

    Hi Oracle users,
I'm using Oracle 10gR2 on Solaris and try to create a new database
    instance.
I'm using dbca for that task. After making all the settings I get the error
    ORA-09925 and then ORA-1031.
For the second error I found the advice to run te root.sh to be sure that
all user privileges for local logins are correct.
    But tis didn't help.
Do you have an advice for me ?
    Best regards,
    Daniel

  • Can't use DBCA after applying patch on solaris

    Hi all,
I have installed Oracle10g 10.2.0.1.0 on Solaris, after that I have created databases which are fine creating with DBCA. After that I upgraded patch from 10.2.0.1.0 to 10.2.0.3.0. now, when I try to use DBCA, It's throwing some TNS errors.
After that I downgraded to 10.2.0.1.0 and when I start DBCA, It's working fine.
Is there error while applying upgrade patch?
    Please advice me...
    Thanks
    Giri

    Dear
Relink your oracle Executables and make sure to take backup ORACLE HOME before that.
    Good Luck..

  • Exception while creating Database in oracle10g Solaris 10 using DBCA

    hi,
While i am creating a DB using DBCA in oracle_home/bin directory i am getting the following mentioned exception.
    Exception in thread "main"
I have set the DISPLAY to the local machine(DISPLAY=LocalMachineIp:0.0 ; export DISPLAY)
After this i have executed dbca. i get the message ---Exception in thread "main".
Can anybody kindly suggest me in resolving it.
    Thanks in Advance

Can you run any other x-applications (eg. xclock)?
Usually DBCA will give an appropriate error if it is a display issue. Can you run any other Oracle utilities, like NETCA?

  • Starting dbca (Oracle 9i Solaris 9)

    Hi Guys,
I get this error when starting dbca:
    ora902@deatdb1->pll01:/export/ora902>dbca
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
What can I do to evercome this problem.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
The DBCA is a graphical tool. To display graphics (in unix at least) you will require a working x-windows environment. If you are using a windows PC to connect to the server you will need to install an x-server onto your PC. I use one called xming - which is free. You can download it from here:
    http://www.straightrunning.com/XmingNotes/
You'll also find some instructions for installing it and getting it working on that link.
    Cheers,

  • Error ora-15081 (and several others) while creating a new db in Solaris

    Hi all,
    OS: Solaris 11
    DB: 11.2.0.3.5 (2 node rac)
While creating a new db on a Solaris 11 env, via dbca, the following stack error appeared to me:
    ORA-19624: operation failed, retry possible
ORA-19870: error while restoring backup piece path[...]
ORA-19504: failed to create file "+MYDG"
ORA-00372: file cannot be modified at this time
    ORA-15196: invalid ASM block header [kfc.c:19572] [1] [257] [0 != 821602346]
ORA-15081: failed to submit an I/O operation to a disk
ORA-15066: offlining disk "dsk_0001" in group "MYDG" may result in data loss
ORA-06512: at SYS.X$DBMS_BACKUP_RESTORE, line5827The dbca (ran as oracle user) aborts at 15%.
There are a lot of errors in this stack, and i'm not pretty sure which error is the main cause of this issue, but I think it's the "ORA-15081: failed to submit an I/O operation to a disk" that is the bad guy here. I did some researches and found that some possible sollutions:
    1) One said that this error might be caused by bad permissions on the raw devices used in the "MYDG" diskgroup (i'm using 6 devices with external redundancy), but my devices are all with the grid:asmadmin and 660 permissions
    2) Another said that this might be a problem with the owner:group of the oracle binaries. In ny installation the oracle binaries ($ORACLE_HOME/bin) are with the oracle:oinstall. I thougth of addind the asmadmin group to the oracle user, but i'm not sure what are the implications of this change. What do you thing?
What am I doing wrong and how can i solve it?
Thanks in advance for your pacience and attention.

  • 9i installation problem on Solaris

I have had a good deal of trouble installing 9i on a Solaris machine...
At the end of the installation process, the following issue occurs:
Oracle DBCA hangs without an error at the point "Creating and starting
the Oracle Instance" - The CPU maxes out, with little or no disk access.
(I let this run for 14 hours, and it never ended).
Running the CreateDB.sql file from the sqlplus command line shows that the
CPU maxing occurs on the line
    sql> startup nomount pfile="$pfile_location"

    Hi,
On the solaris box you are allowed straight in as your account is a member of the dba group and no password file is necessary. When you connect in from a remote machine there can be no local os authetication and oracle has to rely on the password file for this purpose. These are the steps you will need to follow to get the connection to work.
    1) Log on to the solaris box as an account in the dba group (usually oracle).
    2) cd $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
    3) orapwd file=orapwYOUR_SID_HERE password=your_sys_password
    4)Shutdown your database
    5) Set remote_login_passwordfile=exclusive in your init.ora/spfile
    6) Startup the database
    7) now try and log in using sqlplus remotely - it should work
    Cheers,
    Harry

  • Oracle 10G installation problem, and errors on SOLARIS 10 x86

    HI.
I installed the last version of oracle 10g on a x86 SOLARIS 10 system.
When the installer arrived at Configuration assistants, the window is stopping, and I can't see forward. But when I look at the installAction.log, the installation is checked as OK (?).
When I launch sqlplus, and startup inside, it is said the ora-00205 error (problem with control files), and in the end, I'm really suprised there's no the database I told the installer to create at the beginning. But should I be surprised? As I didn't see really the end of the installation, and the installer didn't propose me the PATH where to install the DB, well, I guess there's something wrong.
Could anybody tell me how to solve these problems, please?
    Thank you :)

    Two options:
    1. Create database using DBCA - execute $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbca
    2. Create database manually (without DBCA)

  • Installation Woes on Solaris 10

I have looked thru all the issues posted so far and I have worked past those, my issue occurs during the installation of the Oracle JVM:
The installation is at 36% when I hit this error:
ORA-00604: error occured at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-04031: unable to allocate 4096 bytes of shared memory.("java pool",.....)
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_JAVA", line 222
    ORA-06512: at line 1
I've created a project for the oracle user and assigned a value for max shared memory:
    # id -p oracle
    uid=102(oracle) gid=1000(dba) projid=100(oracle)
    # cat /etc/project | grep oracle
    oracle:100::::project.max-shm-memory=(priv,536870912,deny)
I then activated this setting dynamically:
    #prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -v 512mb -r -i project oracle
Even though I shouldn't have to reboot after this change, I went ahead an rebooted anyway.
I am trying to install 10.2.0.1 64-bit on Solaris 10 with latest recommended patch cluster as of 13-Jan-05.
    Any ideas?
    Thx,
    CC

Well, I am using scripts generated by dbca, surely those allocate enough for itself to function?
Also, under Solaris 10, memory parameters are no longer pulled from /etc/system.
