Decklink Captures Frame Early

We digitize dailies into a Final Cut using the Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme 3 card. However we occasionally get events that digitize a frame early. This can vary from one event each reel to half of the entire reel.
We do have a bit of a convoluted path: footage is coming from HDCam 1080psf 23.98 through an Evertz afterburner which downconverts the footage to standard def 29.97 with a 3:2 pulldown. We're then using the Decklink to remove the 3:2 pulldown back to 24 frames into the Final Cut. Now I'm pretty sure that the reason it's digitizing a frame early on the odd event because it's having trouble locking up but I thought I'd throw it out there just in case anyone else has come across this and has a solution.
And the obvious suggestion is to try a different path but this is the path we MUST use based on all the client's requirements. Thanks for any help!

I believe you want to "pin" the music. Look in the Help for "Work with audio and music".

  • Batch Capture stopping early

    For some reason I set clips to batch capture and FCP 4.5 stops capturing minutes early. I already went through the QT & pro apps update fiasco and downgraded to the older formats. I've been capturing easily from analog but keep having this niggling little problem. In The browser will show the correct time but then change the in & outs to not set.
    Thanks

    Tiger's been working fine and stable until I upgraded. Even after I downgraded the Pro Apps and Quicktime (by means of Pacifist) and did a archive and Install it worked fine. This is something that happened in the last update. I was careful to had ProApps & QT update off.

    When I capture a still frame froma video in Llightroom 4.3, where does the captured frame end up? I cannot find it. Stan

    It will be right next to the movie in your library and the jpg file will end up on your hard disk right next to the movie file. You can see the actual file by right (or control) clicking on the image in the library view and selecting "show in Finder/Explorer"

  • How to capture frame maximizing/minimizing event?

    I have a requirement.
    I have a JTable. The preferred size of the table should be set dynamically when the JFrame/window is maximized or minimized.
    If the window is maximized the preferred size should be
         table.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(1200, 370
    If the window is minimized then preferred size should be
         table.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(715, 370);
    I thought of a solution like if I capture maximize / minimizing event then I can set preferred size accordingly. I need some help
    to capture those events.
    Or if any other solution can be given for this requirement means also it is fine.
    Anybody guide me to capture frame maximizing / minimizing event

    Hi,
    I have coded my requirement as below:
    mainFrame.addComponentListener(new ComponentListener() {                                           // frame where panel->scroll panel is fixed
                   public void componentResized(ComponentEvent e) {         // captured the events by passing component listener
                        if (mainFrame.getExtendedState() == 6) {      // captures the window maximizing event
                             table.getTablePane().setPreferredSize(
                                       new Dimension(1250, 450)); // set required size
                             table.getTablePane().revalidate(); // revalidated.
                        } else {                                                                               // captures window restoring event
                             table.getTablePane().setPreferredSize(
                                       new Dimension(715, 450));
                             table.getTablePane().revalidate();
                   public void componentHidden(ComponentEvent arg0) {}
                   public void componentMoved(ComponentEvent arg0) {}
                   public void componentShown(ComponentEvent arg0) {}
    Thanks for everyone who helped me.

  • *BUG* in LR 4.4 -- Movie & captured frame can't be same name

    *BUG* !!! in LR 4.4
    I have a folder of .29 short .avi movies from my VADO HD. I captured a jpg from the first 11 of the movie clips as I set the *Poster Frame*. They were all named and in sequence, and the jpgs remain as they were in the Win8 explorer folder.
    In LR 4.4 the captured jpgs are GONE from the catalog (all but one that was a different name than the .avi file). And they will NOT come back, become visible, when I *Synchronize Folder*.
    Because the only visible captured jpg was a different name than the the .avi file I renamed another jpg in Win8 explorer. This renamed file then came into LR 4.4 with a *Folder Synchronize*.
    Conclusion - captured jpgs with the same name as the movie file aren't being seen by LR 4.4. Renaming will restore them.
    Going to try to find the place to enter bug reports.
    Hope this is the right place.  :-)

    Thanks but the English language is way to vague.
    *This* forum (I'm three or more levels in),   *Main* page (Community?, Lightroom?  Adobe?), Not on top, not on side, not on bottom of any pages I looked at. Is it a link with words?  A Button?  An Icon?  Where ??? is this link in a mult-level web?  No joy!
    Ask the question - *How do I make a bug report"*   No joy!
    But thanks anyway!  :-)
    I did get a link form a flickr group to a photoshop.com / Revel forum that says it is also a bug report place.  Put it there.  Don't have anymore hours to search trying to help a community with a *simple* issue..

  • Aspect ratio for captured frames is horizontally compressed

    When I attempt to capture a frame from DVCProHD for use outside of PProCS6, the image is compressed horizontally (see example below). It appears normal in some CS6 products (Photoshop and when reimported back into PPro), but if previewed or used elsewhere it looks wrong. Even in Encore I have to reinterpret the footage to make it look like a normal frame from 16:9 aspect footage.
    Any suggestions to help prevent this?
    Thanks-

    You cannot prevent this in Premiere with the snapshot option.
    Correct this in Photoshop.
    Open a 1920x1080 square pixel layer
    Drop the still into this layer
    Scale to fit and save.
    However you can export a 1 frame work area as a png etc.
    set it to 1920x1080 with square pixel.

  • Batch Capture - Frame rate changes after first clip

    Hey everybody,
    Working in CS4 on a Mac, and trying to simply batch capture about 35 clips after all have been logged accurately.
    I'm using the DVX100A, and shot in 24Pa. So I have set up my sequence settings to DV 23.98 Fps, and 16:9 Progressive.
    Upon batch capturing (making sure the capture settings are the same) the first clip is captured at 23.98 and works fine, then every one after that 'captures' at 29.97. I say 'captures' because it says it is captured but when I try and play it in the source monitor Premiere crashes or freezes.
    Has anyone else experienced this issue? Thanks for any input regarding this issue.

    Then I changed Recording Setup to 480i/30p...My thoughts were that this would be slowed down a little.
    That is an incorrect thought. DV tape runs at 29.97fps always. Even 24p...that runs at 29.97 but has the film like cadence. If you want to shoot slow motion, you need to shoot 720p. That is a 60 frame format. You can shoot 720p24 to get 23.98, then there is a trick to get the camera to shoot 60fps and record it as 24fps. The Barry Green book that comes with the camera explains that. And that is SMOOTH slow motion.
    Now the camera ships with a 16GB P2 card. One comes in the box, along with the Barry Green book. Did you not get that? Where did you buy the camera?

  • How to improve Ni-IMAQ LVDS Sequence Capture Frame Rate?

    Im trying to collect 300 consecutive  frames off a 60hz, 320x240 16 bit camera on Win2000 (1.5Ghz, 512MB).
    Using the HLSequence vc++ sample project as the baseline, Im just
    changing  the NUM_SEQUENCE_BUFFERS to 300, and use GetTickCount
    (10ms granularity) to time it:
    unsigned long   skippedBuffers[NUM_SEQUENCE_BUFFERS] = {0};
    errChk(imgSequenceSetup (Sid, NUM_SEQUENCE_BUFFERS, (void
    **)ImaqBuffers, skippedBuffers, TRUE, TRUE));
    before  = GetTickCount();
    while ( status )
            errChk(imgSessionStatus (Sid, &status, &currBufNum));
    after = GetTickCount();
    After several iterations, it seems the difference in ticks between
    the  before and after is around 1372... which at 10ms between each
    tick,  indicates over 13 seconds to complete!  At 60hz, Im
    thinking 300 frames  SHOULD be about 5 seconds.
    Are the buffers that IMAQ "Sequence" uses for the capture,
    internally  dma'd to the *PC's RAM* memory or is it actually using
    the *disk* to  store it?
    What can I do to get it near 60 frames a second?
    Also, I dont know of any way to timestamp each frame, but is there any
    way to see how contiguous the frames are that are captured?

    Hello snoop911,

  • Screen Capture and Game Capture Frames are "Jittery"

    I took a capture of and OpenGL game "Minecraft" (it saved in .avi), but when I import it into Premiere Elements the footage will go smoothly, then cut back multiple frames, then skip ahead resulting in unusable video.  The same thing happens when I save the video.
    I tried the same footage in other editors (Corel VS X2, Windows Live Movie), and it ran smoothly. I used PlayClaw to record.
    If it helps the video was:
    Res: 848 x 480
    Aspect: 16:9
    Colors: YUV422
    Compression: Unknown

    Download and install G-Spot, to see what CODEC (Compression) is being used.
    That is likely the issue.
    The odd Frame Size will make choosing a Project Preset difficult.
    See this recent THREAD. Be sure to check the various links in that thread.

  • Capture frame rates at 720p24

    I have 2 mac pros bothe with the same version of FCP 6. Capture settings on both are dvcpro hd 720p24. When I view the clips in the bin one mac has vid rate at 59.9 and the other at 23.9. How do I get both machines to capture at 23.9?

    You need to make sure that both machines have the DVCPRO HD 720p24 EASY SETUP chosen. If one is using the 720p60 setup, it will not remove the duplicate frames.
    Also...verify that the tape was shot at 720p24. Sometimes I get tapes shot at 720p60 because they were intended to be used as slow motion.

  • Wrong capture frame rate

    Hi,
    I'm trying to conform a movie from recapture, and I'm with troubles.
    I'm capturing from HDCAM 1080i 59.94 and after capture my material should be 29.97fps. But always is different.
    Sometimes is 29.95 or 28.54 well... severals differents values.
    I see the speed of image is OK, I haven't drops.
    But when go to conform the timecodes doesn't match.
    FCP shows correct frame rate on Bin, but QT shows these variables frame rates.
    Anothers programs as Autodesk Smoke and Assimilate Scratch recognize the wrong frame rate too.
    I have a Mac Pro 12 core, using the latest Snow Leopard, FCP Studio 3 and QT.
    For storage have a External SAS disk array with 32 TB wich has a sustainted througput of 700MB/s (fully tested and OK).
    For capture I'm using a Aja Kona 3.
    Actually I already saw this problem in anothers versions of FCP and anothers machines.. but I never get to fix it.
    Please, someone already had this problem and fix it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Thiago Cabral

    QT almost is always wrong.  It plays what it can... and with Snow Leopard, QT X is just worse.  The fact that Smoke and Scratch report the wrong frame rate is really puzzling.  Try this...use the CONFORM option in Cinema Tools to conform the footage to 29.97.  Might be just the thing needed to LOCK that frame rate still.

  • Decklink capture - Gamma change

    I have an XP based render and capture machine from where I capture through the Decklink card (SDI). The footage is then transferred to the Mac and edited in Final Cut Pro. I edits natively in the photo jpg codec.
    Imposing a title or (transparant) logo results in a gamma shift - the newly rendered footage is lighter than the captured footage.
    Does anybody know a solution to this problem. Decklink support points at the QuickTime render engine, so it's out of their control.

    Zeb has it. It is the fact that the codec no doubt is a windows version...AVI perhaps, not QT?
    Photo JPEG is actually one of the EASY SETUPS...although an offline version.

  • Capture Frame with PXIe-1491 and videoMaster

    I'm trying to capture a frame programmatically using the videoMaster API and the PXIe-1491 video analyzer.  I'm having no luck, I don't receive any errors when I run this code and the file shows up as a 4 KB file that can't be opened.

    Acquire HDMI Video To Image_PXI.vi ‏34 KB

    Hey Daniel,
    I have been looking at the VI that you attached. I noticed that you used the NI VMS VBF to image file VI. Here is a screenshot of the help file for this function.
    As the help file explains, the format of the image file is going to be defined by the extension of the file path that you specify. You can also save this file as a JPG or PNG format by changing the file extension.
    Does this help answer your question? Additionally, I also found this community example online that shows how to acquire a HDMI signal using VMS in LabVIEW. I am not sure what your overall application is, but this example might point you in the right direction.  https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-28699
