Decoders, help!?

I have made dvd's with this programme in the past, however i opened it up today and added some files to the timeline and this error message came up:
"the software thats used to decode the media is not available on this system. Installing hte correct decoders fo the files you are working with may help to correct the problem."
What can i do, i made a dvd yesterday and it worked fine, i then tried to add these files again, as i knew they worked yesterday and the message came up again! Its like over night it has gone wrong? The files i am using are standard windows WMV and as i said they worked yesterday but not today!
Anyone have any idea's as to what i can try? COnvert them to another file type of somethinhg?
Many thanks

Chris,
In very general terms, when something works one day, but not the next, then something has changed. "Your mission, should you choose to accept it," is what has changed?
Now, all humor and "Mission Impossible" references aside, what has changed on your system? These could be things like MS updates (many people have these set to "automatic," and do not even know that they take place. Since you mention WMV files, it *could* be that a Windows update has changed the association, or the priority of your MS CODECs.
First thing that I would do would be to Export these same files as DV-AVI and try to Import them into Encore again. I do not use WMVs as Assets in Encore, so I do not know what problems this format might hold - sorry.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Adobe encore the software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. installing the correct decoders for the file you are working with may help correct the problem

    Hi,
      I got this message after importing about ten or so H.264 files that I encoded from Adobe media encoder.  "adobe encore the software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. installing the correct decoders for the file you are working with may help correct the problem."
    The files we're shot with HD cameras.  Edited in Premiere Pro CS3.  I installed the update 3.0.1 with still the same error.
    I also tried a brand new project and after about ten or so files being imported into a timeline, the system crash.  I tried this twice....
        Thanks in Advance

    Hi Hunt,
           Here is the skinny.  A window base PC.  footage shot with HD sony HD cameras,  Project imported to Premiere CS3.  Once completed sent file to Adobe media encoder and render them as H.264 widescreen high Quality.  Imported them to Adobe Encore CS3.  After about ten files or so.  I got the error message.  Did all the basic trouble shoot like restarting the computer, got latest patch.  Even build a new test project with the same problem.
        Something else I read in the forums, is the encore will transcoded the project to Mpeg 2 anyway, after looking at my project I realized those few files were indeed untranscoded.  So it will be a double compression and I dont want that.  So, my new question is, what is H.264 good for ?????????? I was research that Mpeg 2 is a faster render but H.264 is a slower render but better quality.....
       what do you think ????

    I'm trying to make a DVD menu in Encore, and then when it came round to loading my AVI  files into it, bam. Apparently, I don't have the decoders necessary - this is unusual.
    I'm running on a Apple MacBook Pro, and I have Perian installed for all my codec needs. I just don't understand!
    Any help would be most appreciated...

    Welcome to the forum.
    It is most likely that the error message is telling you the truth - the necessary CODEC is not available. It might not be installed, or might be broken.
    The first step is to gather the full details of your .AVI files. This ARTICLE will help explain the potential issues. Sorry that the utilities mentioned are for the PC. Do not know if you can run them in Parallels, or Bootcamp, or other, but similar should be available for the Mac if you cannot.
    I have to admit that I know little of Mac's, and especially how they install and handle CODEC's. On the PC, I can offer help there, but not in this case. Again, with my "sorry."
    There could be two ways to handle the issue, and that might depend on the info gathered afer you read the above article. It could be that the simple installation of the proper CODEC will fix it perfectly and easily. Or, it could mean that you will need to convert your .AVI to something along the lines of a DV-AVI. Though I do not use them in Encore, I have no problem working with .MOV [Animation CODEC] files from FCP in my PrPro. I've just always done all editing in PrPro, before Exporting/Importing to En. I do not know how En will handle .MOV's, but if some Mac-only CODEC is used, probably not so well.
    Good luck,

  • Help with updating decoders, codes, encoders!!

    Hello,
    I am having some trouble importing movies to Adobe Encore, I ripped a DVD that I bought because I was lending the movie to my friend, and in all honestly he is a skeezbag, so I ripped it so just in case I didnt get it get it back.
    So I have this ripped Movie file, and when I try to bring it back into encore to re-burn it, Encore will not allow me to because it says, "The software that is used to decode the media is not available on this system, installing the correct decoder for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem."
    So I am wondering how I go about this to fix the problem I am having? What decoders do I need. I guess I am just completely lost at this point.
    Thank you for you help!

    If he's such a ******, why lend him the DVD in the first place (curious).
    You would be better off not attempting to reauthor, but just make a straight ISO image backup instead....some countries actually allow you to do this (not where I live though) although it's still generally illegal to own the decryption software.

  • Help needed in XML encoders and decoders

    I'm using XMLEncoders and XMLDecoders for storage of java objects. Currently I've tried on simple data types only. But the problem is if I want to operate on the XMLEncoder created file from two different programs, then it is giving errors. In one program I'm executing
    XMLEncoder e = new XMLEncoder(new BufferedOutputStream
    (new FileOutputStream("polledobjects.xml")));
    e.writeObject(...);
    e.writeObject(...);
    e.close();
    and in another program I want to append to append a few more objects in the same polledobjects.xml, so I created another XML encoder object and opened the polledobjects.xml in append mode.
    XMLEncoder e1 = new XMLEncoder(new BufferedOutputStream(new
    FileOutputStream("polledobjects.xml",true)));
    e1.writeObject(...);
    e1.writeObject(...);
    e1.close();
    Now, Decoder works fine till the point it goes thru xml portion created by the first program, but as soon as it reached xml portion created by the second program, it gives the error->

  • USING A NEW MINI ON A 1080i HDTV WIDESCREEN PROJECTION TV...HELP!!!!

    Hi!
    As mentioned on the topic I own a samsung 62" widescreen (yes, 16x9) with HDTV built in (You should see the xbox360 running on this thing!) The thing is, I've looked for a while and I'd like to buy a mac mini for the MEDIA HUB of my home theather.
    PROBLEM:
    My tv does not have a DVI/VGA port... It only has Svideo, Video and Component video.
    Solutions????
    I know that there are cables that go from VGA to component... but as i've read they do not work.... or do they work on my tv?
    Transcoders and decoders??? They cost as much as a new mini (depending on the manufacturer, but they do cost arround 300 or so bucks!)
    Apple's adapter? (DVI TO SVIDEO OR VIDEO?) nah... I hear it *****!
    So my solutions???
    Buy a new tv (not an option)
    SOMEONE CONFIRMS THAT THIS MAGICAL CABLE WORKS ON MY TV!!! YEY!!!
    (A GOOD OPTION)
    Or just stick around with apples adapter!
    Thanks for your patience and I hope you could help me out
    best!
    believe it or not, pretty much every apple product released since 2003, except new intel mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    well, that's kind of have an old school tube. I think it's gonna cost ya a pretty penny to do what you want to do with high quality or you can try this:

    Well, turbo.264 is indeed very nice to have - even for converting full-sized movies. (Nevertheless, TechRadar's latest roundup (see http://www.techradar.com/news/software/applications/6-of-the-best-video-converte rs-for-mac-1074303 ; also linked from another roundup at http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/benchmark-excellent-multimedia-converter-handb rake-vs-commercial-apps ) has shown it's still worse than HandBrake in most respects.)
    All H.264 files (assuming they are H.264 level 4.1 or lower) are compatible with the built-in Videos app.

    Those of you who use other players, what do you reccomend? Just curious.
    It entirely depends on your needs. The top players (AVPlayerHD / ProPlayer, It's Playing, GoodPlayer) all have different strengths and weaknesses. I myself use It's Playing the most as I convert everything into MP4 and simply love the DSP's (brightness / volume / saturation boosting). (Its software decoders are definitely worse than those of AVPlayerHD / ProPlayer; however, MP4's are played back from hardware.)

  • Need help with deciding digital options... creative ddts-100, ddts-610, x-fi i/o cons

    I think i have narrowed down my options for upgrading my computer audio... except i am not sure which way to go and would like some help or ti
    ps.
    ... thanks.
    first off i mainly game and listen to music on the pc or listen to the music while gaming... i currently have the logitech z5300e speaker system, creative labs x-fi fatalty pro gamer sound card... i wanted to purchase a receiver to go digital except thats a bit too much for me right now, if i was to get a receiver it would be for my home theater. so i looked around and came up with a couple alternati'ves, except i am not sure if these options will work with what i have now...
    ?st option, i could go along with getting a creative labs inspire digital 5500 speaker system because that sytem comes with a decoder box that creative labs no longer makes... this decoder box has 2 optical in, coax in, also has a adaoter that connects the speakers to the decoder box as well... runs around 200.00 dollars?2nd option, i found on creatives website a new decoder called the dts-60 except this option would require a receiver because this newer model does not come with the speaker adapter as the dts-00 does... but since i am going to upgrade my home theater receiver i would have that one to use with the coax connections. this option runs 00.00 dollars?3rd option, i? found on creatives website a x-fi i/o console so far from what i read it works with my sound card ... i am still not sure if i can just connect the speaker cable to the console but this would run 80.00?4th option , on there website there is also, a dribe bay x-fi i/o upgrade. not sure if it will work with my soundcard but i was thinking it may be an option to use cause the card i have has built in decoders i think..
    ??what would you guys do ?

    dont buy creative ...no support from them

  • I need help importing Videos in Encore CS3 (running on a Mac)

    I want to make a DVD with Encore CS3 (running on a Mac).
    I've never used Encore before.
    I want to import movie files as Assets.
    The only files I've had any luck importing are .mov files (exported by Quicktime Pro).
    The movies I want to import are .AVI and .MP4 files.
    When I import .AVI files I receive an error message saying;
    'The Software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem.'
    When I import .MP4 files I don't get any error massages but encore recognizes each file as an audio file (Type: Audio File).
    When I drag the .MP4 files into the timeline and view them in the monitor I receive sound but not picture.
    It seems to me like I'm missing an important codec but I don't have a clue what to do.
    Please reply ASAP I need to make a DVD for my Dad.

    Encore likes to work with DVD-compliant files, like DV-AVI, MPG2 (transcoded to DVD specs), PCM-WAV files and the like. MOV files are usually handled pretty well too, as you have seen.
    Your AVIs are probably DivX encoded, or similar, and you'll need to install the DivX CODEC (free for the PC, but have no clue about the MAC). Those are also heavily compressed files, and when you transcode before burning the DVD, they'll be re-compressed more. The quality might suffice, but they will not look good.
    I do not know file format conversion programs for the MAC, but there are a ton of freeware, shareware and full-commercial ones available. DigitalMediaConverter (for PC) is ~US$40 and works well with a lot of different files in different schemes, both Audio & Video. You still need the proper CODECs on your machine to decode and then the proper CODECs to encode during the conversion. It might take some Googling, but you should be able to find both the file conversion programs and the necessary CODECs on the Web.
    On PC, I use a little freeware program, G-Spot, to tell me all the details of any problem file. It might be available for MAC, but I do not know. It won't convert, or fix your files, or your system, but will tell you almost anything you'll need to know, especially the CODEC used and if your system has that one installed.
    Good luck, and sorry that I know nothing of the software available for the MAC.

    first

    There's a number of potential problems here, and they may not necessarily be at your end.
    First of all, it should be clear that CMYK is not so much a generic "image mode" as it is a description of specific press conditions. If you produce final CMYK, you must have the right profile. Don't use Image > Mode, use Convert to Profile.
    Given that, I would question anyone who doesn't accept Adobe RGB photographs for a magazine article, because it implies a process that isn't properly color managed and generally not up to date. A standard workflow today would use InDesign, where images are normally placed in their original RGB space whatever that is. Then the conversion to final output CMYK is done as the last step, when producing a press-ready PDF from InDesign.
    It helps tremendously if you know that final CMYK, because then you can proof to that so your file survives the CMYK conversion with the least possible damage (we're talking gamut clipping here; not general color shifts). But it's not absolutely required, which is why this workflow is relaitively safe.
    Third, CMYK jpeg is in itself risky, because many jpeg decoders (in some software) don't have proper CMYK support. The result can be weird colors. This could well be the problem here, because it sounds as if your client uses a non-standard workflow.
    So what to do? I would send two files. One sRGB as reference, which is guaranteed to come through correctly. Then find a way to send TIFF for the CMYK version if they insist, or ask them to try opening it in different software. Of course you should have a calibrated and profiled display, but I agree that's probably not the immediate problem here. There's no particular reason a CMYK file should come back with twisted colors if it's opened and processed in properly color managed software.

  • Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS with Logitech Z680 Speakers. HELP

    Okay, I recently purchased the Logitech Z680 5. set w/ the Audigy 2 ZS sound card (not platinum pro version). Im really happy with it, but doing some research on other forums has given me a LOT of questions and confusion. Here is what I need to know:
    To begin with, this section under "support" located at the logitech page (link below)
    http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/...fAaVouh&p_lva=& p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX 3Jvd9jbnQ9MjYmcF9wcm9kX2x2bDE9JnBfcHJvZF9sdmwyPSZw X3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PVotNjgw&p_li=
    says that to get TRUE 5. sound with my soundcard and speakers I need to have a digital audio cable that goes from the back of my DVD ROM into the soundcard (like the old ones you put in the back of your CD rom to your mother board to get cd audio). NONE of the local computer stores in the area carry this cable and ALL say I shouldnt need it. WHY do I need it, and where can I find it assuming I do?
    Secondly, it says I need a digital connection to get TRUE 5. sound, not analog. So if I connect a coax from my speakers to the soundcard (using an RCA adapter since it wont fit into the back of the sound card) im getting better 5. for gaming and movies than I will with analog?
    I really just want to take FULL advantage of these two products to give me awesome 5. sound in gaming. This is all I know so far in doing so, PLEASE critique any errors:
    - I had to disable the digital decoder of the Audigy 2 to allow my speakers to decode. I also had to disable decoders built into media software
    - I had to configure both windows and my sound card (and my games/dvd software) to play 5. sound.
    -I had to hookup a digital audio connector from my DVD Rom to my soundcard
    - I had to connect a digital coax from my 680z's to my sound card (along with a mini jack for the coax to fit into the soundcard).
    - I had to select "Digital Output Only" and "Synchronize with control panel" under the speaker settings.
    Assuming ALL this is done, is this everything I can do to take full advantage of the 5. sound this setup can give me, and will digital REALLY give me the 5. sound over the analog, and is there ANYTHING else I need to consider.
    Thank you for your help:-John

    I've just posted a similar question today. I spent hours trawling the web looking at AC3 and everything associated with it yesterday - still not 00% on it though. I'm with you entirely in the game department except my external decoder only has a digital coax input (the optical is for my Xbox) - I don't have the choice of digi vs analogue as you seem to have.
    The only thing I'm not sure if you're aware of is that the set-up you describe doesn't give you Dolby Digital as there is no on-board DD (AC3) encoder. You'll only get DD 5. from AC3 encoded sources like DVDs - you can either set the digital output to passthrough and decode externally or you can decode internally on the Audigy and use the analogues. Not sure which of your decoders is highest quality. I think the 5. you're hearing for games is generated by the Creative hard/software and you'll never get "true" 5. if "true" means Dolby Digital. Having said that, who cares whether it's DD or not if the gunshots sound like they are coming from behind you and you're getting a decent experience ?!
    Maybe you can help me in that respect - f you have set up your system as below (Aud 2 ZS to mini-jack/coax and in to your digi coax input on your external decoder), how did it sound? Did you get all 6 channels during the tests? If you think it sounded good for games then I'm off out to get an Audigy 2 ZS and get going because unless I can find a sound card with AC3 encoder (which I can't), then that's my only option. PLEASE let me know if it sounded good to you.
    Cheers

  • Video TS issue/eDVD Help!!!

    On recommendation I am attempting to use eDVD in order to make a web link in my encore dvd. I create a video TS folder then open eDVD and select the Video TS folder as my selection. It then gives me an "error parsing automatically generated video xml desciption file" message and I am left with a blank file in eDVD. I know this isn't an eDVD forum but I was directed towards it from these forums and I assume I am doing something wrong in Encore when I generate my Video_TS.
    I have looked through the help section and eDVD website and found nothing.
    Any help?
    Thanks in advance...

    Valentina is most likely correct. In order for eDVD to parse your titles and chapters, you need to have functional playback of DVDs on your system through interActual player. So, try to play a DVD in IA Player and it if does not work on your system, that is the culprit.
    What then? IA Player tech support to troubleshoot your issue. could be you have multiple decoders on your system and IA Player is getting confused.
    FYI - there is a manual mode in eDVD for precisely this reason. Burn a disc of your project, place it into a DVD player and click through to your dummy chapters (those that will launch your web sites and enhanced content). Jot down which title/chapter sets should launch which content and then open eDVD, choose to create a project without a video_ts folder, and manually type in the title/chapter pairs. use the + button at the top of the interface to add rows. Associate enhanced content with the title/chapter pairs you added and then build your project. You won't be able to preview your project in eDVD, but you should be able to take the eDVD image and burn it with your video_ts and then check it on another computer where IA Player does function properly.

  • Disable onboard decoders on Audigy 2

    Help someone. I have a Audigy 2 ZS and just got Logitech Z-680 speakers. I am told I have to disable onboard decoders to utilize Logitech decoders for 5. digital. Logitech says go to Creative Audio HQ, click device controls icon, then select <FONT color=#ff3300>Decoder tab. then select SPDIF Passthrough. However, I do not have a Decoder tab to click on. Much less the SPDIF Passthrough. Any suggestions? I am using coax digital and analog 6 hookups however, when I'm digital which is required for DD I only have two channels. Logitech says its being decoded twice and ends up stereo not surround, so I'm supposed to disable the sound cards decoders. This is oem from Gateway. They are no help att all.

    Alsas,
    It is not so. If I try my games, which are apparntly(cant spell it)y analog, there is no <EM>promblemo. I guess alot of games like anolog. Also if I play DVD Audio, No Problemo</EM>. I get surround at 24 bit 96 hertz. as long as I am in analog, and playing games that support it,or just plaiying two channel sound with CMSS, (which is great by the way,) it, just when I go digital. I get two channels only. Everybody thinks this is good to have all these decoders, but, I can tell you from my experience, DON'T BUY A SPEAKER SYSTEM WITH A DECODER, unless you need IT. Also, don't buy a factory system with a SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY 2 ZS installed. Tell them you want to buy it in the CREATIVE box seperately. Otherwise, you won't get what you think you paid for. I talked to "CREATIVE" Service, and they informed me that the only part of the factory sound card you get when you buy one from a, Gateway, Hewlett Packerd, Dell, or, any body else in the computer business,is "The "Sound Chip" Quote. Not the sound card. The sound card is made by "whomever". Therefore, Creative, does not stand behind it. Because in their words, "It's not ours;"
    That is why so many people get the response, "DO NOT DETECT". And then. "Talk to whom you bought it from." That is why so many people get a message " Don't Recognize" when they have a problem,or, when they try to download updates to new drivers, or, software, or whatever. Yet, when I pull the sound card to get the model number, as, Creative will ask you for, (before they deny you results) and ask you to remove the software, and reinstall it, which doesn't work, then they blame the OEM! Talk about passing the buck, WHEW!!!
    I don't have any answers to any of this, I'm just talkining about MY own experience, in the hopes that some one has an answer to this, HAHA, or learn from it, without spending the hours that I have, trying to make this thing work right.

  • Problem with threads and simulation: please help

    please help me figure this out..
    i have something like this:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class DrawShapes extends JApplet{
         private JButton choices[];
         private String names[]={"line", "square", "oval"};
         private JPanel buttonPanel;
         private DrawPanel drawingArea;
         private int width=300, height=200;
         public void init(){
              drawingArea=new DrawPanel(width, height);
              choices=new JButton[names.length];
              buttonPanel=new JPanel();
              buttonPanel.setLayout(new GridLayout(1, choices.length));
              ButtonHandler handler=new ButtonHandler();

              c.add(drawingArea, BorderLayout.CENTER);

              public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){
                   for(int i=0; i<choices.length; i++){
                        if(e.getSource()==choices[i]){
                             drawingArea.setCurrentChoice(i);
                             break;
    }//end class DrawShapes
    class DrawPanel extends JPanel{
         private int currentChoice=-1;
         private int width=100, height=100;
         public DrawPanel(int w, int h){
              width=(w>=0 ? w : 100);
              height=(h>=0 ? h : 100);
         public void paintComponent(Graphics g){
              super.paintComponent(g);
              switch(currentChoice){
                   case 0:     g.drawLine(randomX(), randomY(), randomX(), randomY());
                             break;
                   case 1: g.drawRect(randomX(), randomY(), randomX(), randomY());
                             break;
                   case 2: g.drawOval(randomX(), randomY(), randomX(), randomY());
                             break;
         public void setCurrentChoice(int c){
              currentChoice=c;
              repaint();
         private int randomX(){
              return (int) (Math.random()*width);
         private int randomY(){
              return (int) (Math.random()*height);
    }//end class drawPanel
    That one's from a book. I used that code to start with my applet. Mine calls different merthod from the switch cases. Say I have:
    case 0: drawStart(g); break;
    public void drawStart(Graphics g){
      /* something here */
    drawMain(g);
    public void drawMain(graphics g){
    g.drawString("test", x, y);
    //here's where i'm trying to pause
    //i've tried placing Thread.sleep between these lines
    g.drawLine(x, y, a, b);
    //Thread.sleep here
    g.drawRect(x, y, 50, 70);
    }I also need to put delays between method calls but I need to synchronize them. Am I doing it all wrong? The application pauses or sleeps but afterwards, it still drew everything all at once. Thanks a lot!

    It is. Sorry about that. Just answer any if you want to. I'd appreciate your help. Sorry again if it caused you anything or whatever. .n_n.

  • Query Help

    Table1:
    ou store point
    LS LIB1 50
    LS LIB1 200
    LS LIB1 100
    LS LIB1 79
    I have to insert table1 to table2 by splitting into every 143point and assing serial number for every 143 from parameter.
    in aboce example we can split 3 time 143 like below table2 sample.
    Table2
    ou store point serial_number
    LS LIB1 50 101
    LS LIB1 93 101
    LS LIB1 107 102
    LS LIB1 36 102
    LS LIB1 64 103
    LS LIB1 79 103
    i tried below procedure its not working.
    table may have any order like below.
    Table1:
    ou store point
    LS LIB1 200
    LS LIB1 50
    LS LIB1 100
    LS LIB1 79
    then table2
    ou store point serial_number
    LS LIB1 143 101
    LS LIB1 57 102
    LS LIB1 50 102
    LS LIB1 36 102
    LS LIB1 64 103
    LS LIB1 79 103
    create or replace procedure assign_serial(from_num number,to_num number) is
    bal number(10);
    begin
    bal := 0;
    for c1 in(select * from table1)
    loop
    if c1.point <=143 then
    if bal=0 then
    bal=143-used;
    insert int0 table2 values(c1.ou,c1.store,used);
    elsif used > 0 then
    used=used-bal;
    insert int0 table2 values(c1.ou,c1.store,bal);
    bal=0;
    if used > 0 then
    insert int0 table2 values(c1.ou,c1.store,used);
    end if;
    bal:=143-used;
    end if;
    end loop;
    end;
    How to split and assign serial number,please hELP.

    .after giving serial num i have to change points in table1 to 0.The problem for SUm and split for every 143 is ,different OU and store is there.we have to know for which store points we earned serial number.
    i hope this below logic little satisfy except assign cardnum,please........ check and currect the logic
    LS LIB1 50
    LS LIB1 200
    LS LIB1 100
    LS LIB1 79
    --variable used and bal
    for c1 in(select * from table1)
    loop
    used := c1.points;
    if c1.point <=143 then
    if bal=0 then
    bal=143-used;
    insert int0 table2 values(c1.ou,c1.store,used);
    elsif used > 0 then
    used=used-bal;
    insert int0 table2 values(c1.ou,c1.store,bal);
    bal=0;
    if used > 0 then
    insert int0 table2 values(c1.ou,c1.store,used);
    end if;
    bal:=143-used;
    end if;
    end loop;
