DELAY parameter while Primary Crashed

Hi All,
The application requirement is to have 15mins of DELAY on standby, so that when disaster occur, the application will suggest that out of 15mins, how many minutes of archives to be applied manually, ie point in time recovery.
For database version 11.2.0.3 on linux, in a dataguard setup what is the behaviour of MRP on standby database if 'DELAY parameter is set and Primary database crashes'.
Will the delayed archives be applied by MRP once DELAY is over, or they will remain untouched ( so that these can be recovered manually to some point in time)
Kindly suggest.

They will be applied.
Delay does not delay shipment of redo. It merely instructs the apply processes of the target database.
Source Chapter 2 of the Data Guard Handbook - page 84.
So if you don't want them to apply you would need to stop MRP.

If you define a delay for a destination that has real-time apply enabled, the delay is ignored.

Significance of Initial (intial_extent)parameter while creation of table

I am designing a new schema for my 10g database and I am in process of creation of tablespaces and tables.
My Tablespace are extent management local autoallocate and auto segment space management.
With “segment space management Auto”, I understand that I don’t have to define storage clause in tablespace and freelist will be taken care by bitmap
My question is
while creation of tables what’s the significance of Intial (intial_extent in user_tables) parameter.?
Do I need to consider this parameter while defining large and small tables?
Is this not controlled by “auto segment space management.” Parameter of tablespace.?

While it is unlikely to make a measurable impact on anything in practice, it is almost always preferable in theory, assuming perfect knowledge of the system, to have a few different tablespaces with different uniform extent sizes and to put each object in the appropriate tablespace for its size (i.e. giant tables in the tablespace with giant extent sizes, tiny tables in the tablespace with tiny extent sizes, etc.). The problem with this, however, is that you very rarely have perfect knowledge in advance about object sizes and growth and size patterns are likely to evolve over the life of the system, so you can suck up a great deal of DBA and developer time gathering and maintaining this sort of information as well as responding to changes over time (i.e. moving objects from one tablespace to another as their usage patterns change). For most systems, the potential benefit to having a perfect setup, rather than putting everything in an AUTOALLOCATE tablespace, is far smaller than the cost of actually doing so.
Unless you have some reason to believe that your application is in the minority where squeezing the last bit of storage efficiency is worth the hassle, I'd tend to suggest throwing everything in an AUTOALLOCATE tablespace.

How to fix the delay problem while recording? Can't set the Latency to 0. Win7, CS6,Realtek,C03u Mic

I am using Win7, with CS6, Realtek soundcard and Samson C03U microphone.
There is a problem that's really been bothering me. When I record songs the recorded audio always comes 0.1 seconds after where it's supposed to be and I need to fix the problem every time. How to fix the delay problem while recording? I can't set the Latency to zero. The minimum is 30ms and I still get an obvious delay.
I saw some previous discussions saying that installing ASIO would help. Is it gonna work on my PC?

You probably should look at a more 'serious' audio interface rather than the Realtek
Yes ASIO drivers are the way to go
If you want zero latency you need to monitor via your audio hardware (hence the 'serious' audio interface suggestion)
There are a heap of reasonable audio interfaces which will do the job for you that are pretty inexpensive and I'm sure that someone will jump in with a suggestion

When to change COMPATIBLE parameter while upgrading to Oracle 11G

We are planning to upgrade from Oracle 10.2.0.4 on AIX to Oracle 11.2.0.2 soon.
While reading oracle upgrade documents and from oracle upgrade blog, it is mentioned that once we change compatible parameter,
we will not be able to catdwgrd.sql to downgrade.
However, if we don't change compatible parameter after an upgrade, all the testing efforts during upgrade process wont be complete
as we may need to do another round of testing after changing this value.
So what is the best time for changing this compatible parameter? 1 week or 2 weeks after upgrade?
We are considering catdwgrd.sql as our option to fallback if something goes wrong.

Hi,
It's a difficult question. If your applications are validated with 11gR2, if your OS is certified to work with Oracle 11gR2, if you adjusted the requirements etc. it will work. Will it work 100% well ? Maybe not but downgrading is really an extreme solution. 11gR2 is a fully supported version and anyway you will obtain efficient support from Oracle if you encountered a bug etc.
If you have doubts change when you are sure every critical activity/charge you expect went well for example. We cannot know if it will be after 1 week or 2 weeks : it's up to you.

MBP late 2009 getting delays/timeouts while mount/dismount or plug/unplug

Running a MBP late 2009 with 3GHz, 8GB RAM and 500GB HDD (300GB free).
When I mount/dismount a drive it takes up to 1 min for the finder to respond again (getting the whirling ball).
When I plug/unplug headphones it takes up to 1 min for the finder to respond again
(getting the whirling ball).
Shutting down means it gets to to final screen and stays there for 2 min, then it powers down.
After any restart, it would mount/dismount plug/unplug fast (within 1 or 2 sec's). Then after a few min's, above behaviour starts.
So I do not get any crashes. I get delays where the finder is blocked for up to 1 min.
I updated to 10.6.4 some weeks ago and it started around that time.
What can I do?

So I deleted cache files for various apps (incl. finder) and ran several tools (ie. mycleanmac) and still the same behaviour:
Whenever the finder has to update some settings, ie. disks, networks, screens, outputs... it hangs for a full minute and then goes on.
Any ideas?

Sync with iCloud while charging crashes WiFi

When i try to sync to iCloud while charging my iPhone 5 my WiFi goes down, not the phone but the router. After restarting the router it works again. Syncing manually while running phone on battery and wifi everyting works fine. Anyone else got this problem? Discoverd this because phone hadn't made any nightly backups for two weeks. Thats when i installed iOS 8.

Gee, why didn't I think of that? For those that may be keeping track this is a dlink Dir-655 (ON LATEST FIRMWARE).
I had no problems with my iPhone 5. I have no problems with my iPhone 6 EXCEPT when I let the phone attempt a full iCloud backup. I don't know what encryption or protocol this fires up but whatever it is it crashes the router. I am hoping others with router crashing can benefit. The seemingly random crashing some have may be when the phone attempts a backup.
Because i use I jumped phones and iOS versions at the same time I don't know for sure which is to blame but I suspect it is the iOS creating malformed packets. My router wont packet capture and I don't have $2000 for a wifi N capture adapter. So there is not much more troubleshooting I can do.
MY Apple fanboy co-workers have airports and don't have iphone connectivity issues. so maybe routers do need to catch up with some wonky thing Apple is doing. I am not against buying a new router if I knew it would fix the issue but I don't have spare cash to spend right now just to make the attempt. If a new router doesn't help I will have spent money for nothing on a non-returnable item.

How to compare a parameter while calling a function?

From how he is wording things, it sounds to me that if I pass $search the letter F, he wants to check to see if the switch statement contains a case for F, and if not do something. I do not think this can be done but he could always have a Default case,
returning something to indicate they need to choose something else, or the default parameters needed for whatever he is doing to work.

Opendocument link showing parameter while using lsS

Hi,
We are using OpenDocument to view a report. We want to pass the default values to the parameters for crystal report. While using lsS when the date is specified to the parameter the parameter to which the value is assigned stops getting displayed in the parameter panel.
We want to display the parameter with the default value which is passed.
Is there a solution for the same?

Well, there isn't a 'neat' way to do this other than the Java way.
Here are some options though:
1) Create a command object with a SQL query that returns one row and one column in the form of 'first day of last month'. Change the existing Date prompt type in your report to 'dynamic' and choose the field from the command object above as the 'value' field.
This will remove the calendar date picker and instead you'll need to choose the value from the drop-down. The drop-down will always get the first day of last month from the SQL query.
2) Create a blank report and create a formula in the report that returns first day of last month. Insert the original report as a Subreport and link this formula field to the date prompt in the Subreport. This method will completely get rid of the prompt as the value is automatically passed to a subreport. If the existing report already contains a subreport then you can't use this method anyway.

"audio configuration is damaged" error while while loading "crashed" song

I've been working on a song for quite a while, I created a new track, moved a copy of a sequence from another track to this new track and opened the media browser to find a sound for the new track. Each preset I tried caused the error message ("audio configuration is damaged") to be displayed and I needed to hit the "ok" button 6 or 7 times to let the song play. Soon Logic crashed completely and now the song won't open at all (same error message every time).
Any thoughts, suggestions?

Hi everyone,
I just ran into the "audio configuration is damaged" error twice tonight while working on a project. I wasn't able to recover the first project which cost me about 4 hours of work so I started a new project and after a couple hours got that error again while dragging a sample from the loop browser into a new track. I was able to load up a backup before I got the error, saved that as a new project file and apparently it's working again but clearly this is unacceptable.
I'm currently considering doing a fresh install of both Mac OS X and Logic Studio.
Apple, please look into this instead of archiving the threads related to the "audio configuration is damaged" bug. There are at least 10-20 threads already on this topic, yet they always get archived. I'm seriously considering ditching Logic and doing my arranging/composing also in ProTools from now on.

Delete Command button doesn't take more than one parameter while update command does

Does anybody have an idea WHY sharepoint does not send the parameter information to a delete command while the exact same parameter is being sent to the Update command?, the data is being pulled from an asp:TextBox bound to the 'comments' field in
the data source which happens to be the field I need to update, the code works for Update commands but not for Delete commands. Unfortunately I have to use sharepoint designer because SP is restricted at work, so I can't write code behind the scenes. I would

you have multiple options here:
1) upload as a script:
a) save the statements in a file
b) go to sql workshop > sql scripts
c) upload script and run the script
2) run the script line by line in the sql commands window directly:
a) go to sql workshop > sql commands
b) copy all statements there
c) highlight the first statement with the mouse
d) click "run" or press <ctrl>+enter
3) use sql developer
a) go to http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html
b) download and install
c) connect to XE
d) run the statements there

Illustrator and photoshop 2014 work perfectly, while Indesign crashes the entire operating system (mac osx 10.7)

Hi all,
Recently updated to CC 2014, and while both Illustrator and Photoshop run perfectly, every time I launch Indesign it crashes my entire operating system, forcing me to restart the computer.
I'm running Mac OS 10.7. Should also mention that clean unistall/install did nothing to fix the issue.
Anyone else having the same issue? Please help.

Random delay between WHILE loop during acquisition from DAQ

I am working with the NI DAQ USB 6259.
My purpose is to acquire data from an analog voltage input. My problem is showed in the attached image and consists in a RANDOM time delay between the execution of two consecutive while loop that contains the acquisition and the writing operations.
If you observe the image attached, you can notice that samples are taken at regular interval (which I can specify) only within one loop, then between the instant of the last sample of one cycle and the one of the first sample of the next cycle, a random delay occurrs.
I attach also my block diagram which is very simple.
I am forced to use the option "N samples" in the daq assistant because if I use continuous acquisition an error is returned, I guess because my acquisition can last minutes.
It's like I were blind for a random duration between consecutive iterations of the while!
Do you know an alternative solution to avoid this problem or its solution?

Have you tried to execute this without the writing to the TDM file? I suspect that is where your delay is happening... So I propose you delete that from your block diagram... and execute your loop... if that works, you will need to move your file write to somewhere else in the process... possibly a parrallel loop... If not, consider stripping down the express VI you use for your data acquisition... The delay could be in that express... setting up, starting, acquiring and stopping the daq task... In which case, you can right click on it, say open diagram... or open vi or something similiar... LabVIEW will tell you that it must convert the VI, so OK (you can alway undo)... I am not sure what else you have going on... so you may already be doing that... but that is the first two places I would look.

May I change counter parameter while it is counting?

I'm using CVI 7.1 and traditional daq with a PCI-6601 board to perform simple event counting to count delays on some tested devices
For my application I need to change the type of counting from ungated to gated while the counter is running: is it possible?
My application is configured this way:
GPCTR_Set_Application (1, ND_COUNTER_0, ND_SIMPLE_EVENT_CNT);
GPCTR_Change_Parameter (1, ND_COUNTER_0, ND_SOURCE, ND_INTERNAL_100_KHZ);
GPCTR_Control (1, ND_COUNTER_0, ND_PROGRAM);
Now, while the counter is running I need to follow on counting only if the gate signal is high. If I simply use
GPCTR_Change_Parameter (1, ND_COUNTER_0, ND_GATE, ND_PFI_38);
I receive the error that "The specified resource is already armed", so I tried with
GPCTR_Control (1, ND_COUNTER_0, ND_DISARM);
GPCTR_Change_Parameter (1, ND_COUNTER_0, ND_GATE, ND_PFI_38);
GPCTR_Control (1, ND_COUNTER_0, ND_ARM);
but the counter continues counting regardless the state of the gate signal. That's why my question: how can I perform this task?
(Note: if configured from start for gated counting, the counter operates regularly based on gate state)

Kevin, in my application I am monitoring a long-lasting process (approx. 45 seconds long) in which I must measure the time a contact is on. 6601 card is dedicated to measure this time: the contact is used as the gate signal of the counter so that time measurement is exactly related to the process being surveyed. The problem is that during part of this process I cannot be connected to the actual contact, so I cannot use its state as the gating signal during all time.
I was hoping that I could change counter configuration on the fly so that I can start counting based on the gate, switch to ungated counting while I cannot survey the contact and switch back to gated at the end of the interval, when I can use again the contact as counter gate.
In the meanwhile I am monitoring some other parts of the process and acquiring measures on serial (that is intrinsically "slow") devices: due to this sum of processes going on inside the computer, I cannot rely of my program being enough fast as to monitor the state of the DUT and mirror it in a gating signal.
I have tested my solution to sum up partial timer counts and found it not so easy to manage so I decided to introduce a little hardware modification in the measuring system and OR the gating signal with a digital output of the 6601: I can manage in the software to drive this signal with significant margin on actual phenomenon, so that I am now using the counter always in gated mode. This solution is more or less in the way of your last answer seem we arrived at it contemporarily!

How come IE works fine while Firefox crashes and hangs constantly

IE works fine while Firefox opensn 1 web page then hangs, crashes when trying to access "source", does not render Windows Media Player content, update to 3.6.9 hangs in eternal download mode, then frazzles, on Windows XP with AMD processor and Firefox 3.6.8.

Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.

IPhone 4, works while charging, crashes when not

Hi,
So I have an iPhone4 and it keeps crashing. It is fine while it is charging but as soon as I take it off the charger it crashes. What could it be?
Trying to wait for the new iPhone but this is a huge problem.

The same this has happened to me as of 6-7 weeks ago. I thought it might have been a new app I downloaded within the preceding fortnight but even removing this didn't fix it.
It also tells me at times that there is no battery with the 'plug in screen' coming up, but when I plug it in it can have anything up to 100% battery.
When it crashes, I push the top button, the Apple logo comes up (like the turning on screen) and I can see the previous window that had been displaying at the moment of the crash still imprinted on the screen. The only thing that will ensure smooth running is when it is plugged into a power source and yet I've had the occasional crash that way too.
When not plugged in and it does run there is a constant flicker at the bottom half of the screen.
As far as I can tell it appears to be an issue with the update of ios from 7.1.1 and up. Is there anyway that an Apple rep could confirm or deny it?
Or offer a possible solution to help fix it?
