"Delete messages from server" Mail iPhone 5

Hi, I am trying to locate "delete messages from server" option in Mail Settings on iPhone 5 and can't find it. In iPhone 4 it was just in the Advanced settings but it is not there in iPhone 5. Help please? Thanks

Not sure who your email provider is. Mine is hotmail. When you set up email with hotmail on an iPhone 4 the delete from server never is available. I just got an iPhone 5, i reset up my hot mail account and can't find that setting either. I set it up by using the hotmail button not "other" so meaning delete your hotmail account from your phone. Then re set it up. But when you do add email account, don't use the button that says hotmail. Use the bottom choice that says "other". I have no idea why this is different but if you do this it will set up hotmail just the same. But now that setting is there. The "delete from server" and you set it to "never". Now when you delete the emails from your hot mail account on the iPhone, it leaves that email on the hotmail server. So when you look at email on the computer it's there still. It's good this way if you share email with someone.

  • How to stop iOS7 Mail from deleting messages from server?

Recently I started using an iPhone 5S after over four years with an iPod Touch. The Mail app on the iPhone deletes messages from my server. I do not want it to do this, I cannot find the option to turn off in Settings, and the iOS Mail help page at Apple Support is for an older OS version. Insight and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think I figured out a workaround at least.  It appears that the "Power Nap" feature is doing the mail checking.  Although the concise descriptions of Power Nap say it "allows your Mac to do things like periodically check for new mail, calendar, and other iCloud updates" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5394?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US), it apparently doesn't just allow these actions, it does them -- regardless of your mail settings.  I suspect this is a bug.
Turning off Power Nap (in the Energy Saver panel in System Preferences) stopped the unwanted mail fetching, but unfortunately that also means that I don't get the benefit of the other activities it does, like Spotlight indexing. There are two places to turn it off, one for the "Battery" tab and one for the "Power Adapter" tab.
Since Power Nap was introduced with Mountain Lion, but I never had the problem until Mavericks, I assume that either (1) Power Nap was off by default in Mountain Lion but is on by default in Mavericks, or (2) this is another of several Mail problems introduced by Mavericks.

  • Is there a way to recover deleted mail from my iPad and recover deleted messages from my onw iPhone?

Is there a way to recover deleted mails sent from iPad and/or recover deleted messages from my iPhone?
A software or even open it? It is very important for me get back the messages sent on December. I did not have a back up at that time, at least that I know, but I change my iPhone and had as I got a micro chip, I could take my contacts from iTunes.
Does it means a back up was done at the Note book I used that time or the messages are lost?
And my mails? From my server, I can recover only from 5 last days!
    Thank you for any help!!

Thanks for replying - no, I had not done a backup since the shots were taken and then attemped to put them in an album as I did not want to change the enviornment of the phone from when I had inadvertently delted them.   Unfortunatlely, when asked "Do you want to delete these photos from all locations," I hit yes and they were also deleted from my Photostream.

  • Delete messages from server?

    Hi Guys,
I have a question regarding mail management.
    Here is my situation:
I have a GMX e-mail account; when I manage my e-mail on a computer (any computer), I always use the web-based e-mail straight from the website. I have this e-mail address configured in Mail on my iPad as an IMAP account. When I check my mail via iPad, it shows me my current inbox, but if I delete messages from iPad, it moves the message to trash, but does not reflect this on the server. So when I go to login to my account from a regular computer, any e-mail(s) that I have deleted through my iPad are still in my inbox at the GMX website.
On my iPad, I have turned Push to Off and I have Fetch set to manual, whenever I launch Mail. I have tried hitting the refresh on my iPad after I move a message to Trash, and my iPad's Mail settings are set to move deleted items to the "Trash" folder on the GMX server. Sending and receiving e-mails are no problem.
What am I doing wrong here? I am tired of deleting messages on my iPad (such as spam) and then having to go onto a computer and login to GMX and delete them again.
Btw, same exact issue on my iPhone with exact same e-mail settings.
    Thanks,
    Emile

    Thanks for the tip, Ralph.
I just went over to the GMX website and went to their support forum and apparently this is a known problem when accessing e-mail through an IMAP or POP3 e-mail client. A post was made at the end of August saying they are aware of the problem and are trying to fix it.
I've had this issue with my GMX account since my first-generation iPhone and they've just realized it a month and a half ago. I wonder how long it's going to take for them to repair the issue, sheesh!
I will mark this thread as resolved but since I just have to wait for GMX to fix the problem on their side. At least we got to the bottom of this, thanks for the help guys.

  • Delete messages from server when deleted from iTouch doesn't work

    Hi everybody,
    Two questions really...
One is that with my 2nd gen iTouch I was able to set IMAP settings and it would show all of the folders (other than Inbox) that I have created on my mail account. The 4th gen iTouch doesn't seem to let me see the sub-folders.
The second is that I have my account set to delete messages from the server when they are deleted from my Inbox, but that simply doesn't work.
This is withe the iTouch 4 and OS 4.1 (8B117)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Is it possible that I have the wrong Server Port entered? I didn't fill in that field at all. I think it was filled in automatically. I guess I would have to contact my hosting company's support team to know what the server port is.

  • Deleting messages from 'All mail'

    Hi
I use Mail v 5.3 om my MacBook Air.(In the UK)
We have 2 accounts running on it. One is *****.*****@virginmedia.com
    The other is ******.*****@ntlworld.com.
I am not certain but am led to believe that these are, in fact, gmail accounts.
The problem is that it appears impossible to delete messages from each of the 2  'All Mail' mailboxes so that each now contains approx 6000 messages.
Messages can be deleted but after a few minutes they re-appear in All Mail mailbox.
I am not that savvy and have read some stuff on the forums but so far nothing has worked e.g. I have tried setting the Trash mailbox to 'Use for Trash'. If I then delete messages they go away for a short time then re-appear. Is it because they are being reloaded from the mail server and, if so, how do I prevent this?
To get an answer to this I suspect I may have to give more info so feel free to interrogate me!
    Thank you

Ironically it looked like someone had this question about a year ago with the same ISP.

GMail (Google Apps Mail) allows you to choose which folders will sync with an IMAP configured client. Let's try these steps:
1.) Click on the gear wheel in the upper right hand corner of the GMail interface and then select Settings.
2.) Then go to the Labels heading and click it.
3.) On the far right column you should have a check box option called, Show in IMAP. In this case you'll want to uncheck the All Mail box it sounds like.
I had to wait about 2-3 minutes and relaunch Apple Mail after checking/unchecking boxes before they propagated in Mail.

  • OS2 Messages program - deleting messages from server

The email client is deleting messages from the server - even though keep messages on server is "on".  This is a big issue for those of us who download messages to our pc's.

Ive been playing around with a test account.
Upon first setting up the account on the PB, I have the "keep messages on server" set to ON.  I then checked the mail and it downloaded onto the PB.- then checked the server via webmail and the messages were gone from the inbox..
I then turned the feature OFF in the PB and checked mail again.  After that, I turned  the feature back ON and the mail stayed on the server afterward.
I'm not sure why this is - but it occurred with every new account I set up on the PB.

  • Deleting Messages from Server Using Different Computers

I access my mail from a number of different computers and devices and I would like to be able to delete a message from the server when I delete it from any of the computers/devices so that when I check my mail from a different computer/device, the previously deleted message is no longer there.
As it is now, the only option I seem to have is to remove the message from the server after I have retrieved my mail. As a result, I have to maintain one master computer for my mail and only when I delete messages from that computer are they deleted from the server.
So, is there a way to delete a message from the server after I have deleted it from any of my computers or devices?
BTW, I am using a POP account.

I'm using Imap (1and1.com) I have noticed that when email gets automatically deleted off my sever it's later missing from Mail. I cannot find any setting in Mail to keep all my email or a setting on my server to keep my mail. I often have to refernce back to business emails.

  • IOS 8.12 Apple Mail for Exchange Account Deletes Message from Server

Both my computers are set to leave Exchange emails on the server, but I can't find how to set this on my iPhone. So, if I happen to first open a message on my phone, it's no longer available when I open Apple Mail on either of my computers. I need the messages on my iMac and MacBook Pro--not just on my iPhone. How can I change the settings on my iPhone so that Exchange doesn’t delete messages once they're downloaded to the phone? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer. --Bill

Thanks, Glenn. I get as far as the Advanced Settings screen, and there are 3 items for choices:
    • Use SLL - on
    • Move Discarded Messages into:
      Deleted Mailbox - check
      Archive Mailbox - not checked
    • S/MIME
      S/MIME - off
I don't see how I can choose to NOT delete messages. (I'm assuming that the Move Discarded Messages into: Deleted Mailbox is a setting to tell iOS 8 what to do with a message that I choose to delete from my iPhone.)
    Any further guidance?
    thanks,
    Bill

  • Stop deleting messages from server

since I updated to iOS5, when I delete messages on iPhone it deletes from my gmail server and I don't want it to, Help?

  • Delete message from server after download.

Hi, I'm normally use to Gmail and so haven't used an email client in years.
I have a .mac account and Mail is setup to check it.
At the moment, when mail downloads new mail from the server, it still leaves a copy of the email(s) on the server.
Instead what I would like it to do is, download from the server and then delete the copy on the server.
... is this possible?... and how do I do it?
I'd appreciate any help at all.
    Nick.

    Hello Nick.
If this is for your .Mac account, a .Mac type account is really an IMAP type account and behaves in the same way.
You can create/access a .Mac account with the Mail.app as a .Mac, IMAP or POP type account and as an IMAP or POP type account with other email clients.
If you plan on accessing your .Mac account with another email client or via webmail access on another computer, you may want to reconsider.
If not, to change the account type of an existing account with the Mail.app requires deleting and recreating the account.
If you want to save any sent messages with the account before doing so, create an "On My Mac" location mailbox and transfer all existing sent messages from the account's Sent mailbox to the user created "On My Mac" location mailbox. Deleting an account has no affect on messages that remain on the server.
Delete and re-create your .Mac account selecting POP as the account type when re-creating the account.
After doing so, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Advanced tab for the account preferences will be the available settings for removing messages from the server when downloaded.

  • Deleting messages from server shortcut?

Today I inadvertently stumbled upon a keyboard shortcut which opened a (preference?) box allowing me to view the messages which are on the server, and delete them if desired.
This is totally different from the preferences command to delete the messages from the server after they are opened or after a particular amount of time, etc.
I don't know how I opened the window and wonder if anyone knows how it's done.
At the time I was working on a MBkPro 15" with 10.5.8.

OK, So here's the correct answer to my own question!
While Mac Mail is open, do the following:
    1. To open the accounts window in Mail, hit Command comma.
    2. To see all messages on your POP server(s), hit Command I (Get Info)
This will give you the opportunity to delete one or more messages on the POP server if needed (for those of you using RR with a quota limit, this is useful because you don't have to go into your webmail to select specific messages for deletion).  Of course, if you've set your prefs to delete all mail after downloaded to Mac Mail, then you really don't need this shortcut.
2A.  If you have IMAP accts. then Command I will show how much of your allotted space is being used and what is in all your folders on the server (Trash, Spam, Sent...).
Both 2 and 2A also afford you the opportunity to set or alter the "Mailbox Behaviors" and to see a "Summary" of that acct..  If viewing an IMAP acct. this window also allows you to view your subscription list(s).
    That's it.

  • Deleting messages from server

    Hi,
I am creating an email client. Everytime i press send/receive i get all the messages from the server. I only want to receive those messages that are new.
At the moment whenever i close a folder i say folder.close(false). Would i just have to change the boolean to true. Would that do the trick. thanks.

When you pull your messages you will need to check the flag of the message. The flag you are looking for is SEEN.....
    Hope this helps.
