Delete photos on icloud trash can grayed out

I am desperate to delete old duplicate and junk photos from my istream, or whatever it's called, where my photos are stored on the icloud. When I follow apple's instructions, the trash can button is grayed out. Same thing happens in my husband's iphone. Checked settings. Look ok. I need to clean out the tons of old stuff so I can upload current photos. Help appreciated. I am NOT an Apple expert so step by step help appreciated. Have iphone4 with ios 6.

Unless you have photos on some other service, like Dropbox, or you have a special photo app on the device that keeps its own copies of photos and possibly uses icloud to store them (not likely), icloud does not store your photos unless they are part of a backup.  If you see them on the iphone, then they are stored on the iphone.
To get photos that were synced to the device from a computer (using itunes), then use itunes again and deselect the photos you don't want synced.  Then sync the device with itunes and the photos will be deleted from the device.

  • Deleting photos from iphoto trash can

I can not delete photos from iphoto trash can, I get a notice that they are locked.
these photos were deleted along time ago from the hard drive.
I was surprised to see them, where are they ? so I can delete them,I can't do it from the trash can.

Try the following:download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name in the owner section and Staff in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Then try emptying the trash bin again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How do I delete photos in the trash can?

I have A LOT of photos in my iphoto trash can that i would like to delete permanently. How do I go about doing that?

Which trash can? The one in iPhoto? If that's the one you're referring to go to to the iPhoto menu and select the "Empty Trash" option.
Be warned that other users have had trouble with iPhoto crashing when they tried to delete a large number of photos from the trash at once. I suggest you follow the tip at the bottom of my post before trying to empty the trash. I'd also download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine, before emptying the trash. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Just to make sure all is set properly.
If iPhoto does crash you'll have to move them back to the library and try deleting in smaller numbers, 50 or so.
    Do you Twango?

  • HT201317 can you recover deleted photos in iCloud?

Can you recover deleted photos in iCloud?

If you mean photos removed from photo stream, unfortunately no.  If you mean photos deleted from your camera roll, they are supposed to be included in your iCloud backup (although unfortunately not all users report success in getting them back).  If you made a backup while these photos were still in your camera roll, you may get them back by restoring this backup to your phone.  (Note, restoring a backup will revert all settings and data on your phone to those contained in the backup, not just photos.)

iCloud is only used to sync photos between devices. It's not a "home" for them where you can view them on the web.

  • Deleting photos from iPhoto trash crashes iPhoto

I've been a bit remiss in deleting photos from iPhoto trash and now when I attempt to delete the 6379 photos in there it crashes iPhoto.  I have tried the right click on the trash in the left menu bar and also the "iPhoto" > Empty Trash.  How can I get rid of these photos?

This will happen if you try and delete that many shots from iphoto at one go. We generally recommend that you empty the trash in batches of 100 or so at a time.

  • How do I delete photos in iCloud

I need help deleting photos in iCloud. My family is connected and there are a lot of pics that we don't want

Welcome to the Apple Community kenneth
This has occurred because you are sharing an iCloud account. Ideally you should each have your own iCloud account, that way you can each manage your own mail, contacts, calendars, documents etc and avoid unintentional deletions and unwanted editing. If there is information you wish to share between you, this can be done with a secondary account.
Having separate iCloud accounts, doesn't mean you have to have separate iTunes accounts, so whilst you keep your personal data separate, you can continue to share music, apps, books, TV shows, movies etc.

My storage is almost full on iphone. How do I delete photos from icloud?

You can just tap Delete Back Up, you don't need to turn off iCloud.
Deleting the backup only permanently deletes the backup from iCloud.  It doesn't do anything the the data currently on your phone.  You will want to create a new backup as soon as possible after doing this, however, as you won't have one until your do.  You can either intiate this manually to create one immediately by connecting your phone to your charger and to wifi, then going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and tapping Back Up Now at the bottom (this will take some time to complete the first time), or you can just connect it to your charger and wifi before you go to bed and it should back up automatically (and continue to do so once daily).
You don't need to manually connect your phone to your computer to back up to wifi, but it's a good idea to create a second backup using iTunes occasionally in case your iCloud backup ever fails (I do this weekly).  To do this, connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now.  (Your phone will continue to automatically back up to iCloud daily; this is just a second, manual backup, on your computer.)

If you mean Photo Stream, just go to icloud.com, log in, click on your name in the upper right, click on advanced, and then choose reset Photo Stream.  That removes all photos stored there.

The iTunes Store has no phone support and never has. Contacting them has always been via web form. Go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

Yet another example of why it's a VERY BAD IDEA to do a clean install of Lion unless you are already VERY familiar with how to tweak the Mac OS. There's a reason Apple engineers removed it as an option. To accomplish it you have to erase your disk; not for the faint hearted.
Do you have a backup? PLEASE don't tell us you did this without a robust backup.
You erased the operating machine, so your computer went to the only place it could find one, the Recovery partition. And it's minimal, so it has to download everything in small chunks to reinstall itself. So yeah, it could take 10 hours.
Here's another option. Do you still have the original disks that came with your machine? Put one in and restart from it. You can reinstall your old system much faster. Then go to the Mac App Store and your purchase history and see if you can redownload Lion (I think that still works).
And this time just do yourself a favor and install per Apple's instructions. When the machine starts into Lion, use Setup ***'t (the first thing that fires up) to migrate from your backup.

popup 'photo stream' has appeared & not allowing it to open & blocked my ipad mini. it says photos for iCloud account can not be assessed. review your account information in settings. IGNORE & SETTINGS are not working

    Try this now.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Deleting photos from iCloud

How do I delete photos from iCloud. I need to reduce the space I am using.

    Hi Aussie,
By space that you are using, do you mean in iCloud itself?
If so, then you would need to get photos off of your Camera Roll before backing up to iCloud the next time. To to that, you would need to import them to your computer, then delete them from the phone.
    Cheers,

check the overall trash on the 'dock'.when files are deleted from programmes, they always go to the general 'Trash'  as general files and you will need to delete form there as well. if there is still a lot of missing files taking up space try reloading or deleting 'Iphoto' and uploading again.
