Deleted iphoto and powerpoint

I was trying to clean up my desktop and I put Iphoto and powerpoint into the trash, thinking it'd be okay cause they were in my dock. I emptied my trash. The app icons show up in the doc but wont open and have a question mark within them. Mac OS X Verison 10.6.8. Do I have to purchase new apps?

You need to reinstall them from their original disks, or in the case of an iPhoto version which shipped with the Mac, the computer's original disks.

It's probably the library that's the prolem and not the application. Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create and open a new library then your existing library is damaged.
If that's the case, Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I keep getting the error message (photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable ) I've tried everything that has been suggested, I've even deleted Iphoto and reinstalled it ,but this doesn't work, I even reinstalled Lion, without success. I've checked for virus s and that is ok. Any ideas as to what the problem is and how can I solve it.

Try this solution:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
2. Open the library package like this.

3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.

This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects. Your original libraruy will not be affected. It will still exist in case you want to try other fixes on it.

i was delete iPhoto and i can't reinstall again and i appstore when i press accept it say: "These apps cannot be accepted on this computer." "Future updates of these apps can be found through Software Update." ... whats prob ? and how i can solve it?

yes i have iphoto before and im delete it becous he want update but cant and i was delete it to update by reinstall again but they say this massege: "These apps cannot be accepted on this computer." "Future updates of these apps can be found through Software Update." ...

I have a mac book pro retina, i had iPhoto and iMovie app with the OS while purchase. the iPhoto and iMovie updates were using my old apple-id and i wasnt able to update my app due to that, so i deleted those apps and wanted to reinstall that. so my new apple-id would be picked up.
but i didnt realize these were paid apps. ouch. so is there a way i can restore these apps ?

Have you tried signing in with your old Apple ID? All software obtained at the app store is tied to the Apple ID used to obtain it forever. If you start with a new Apple ID, then you will need to purchase it again.

Apps on old Apple ID. Can't access email but will I lose my pics if delete iPhoto and rebuy on new id?

When I bought my iMac, the Apple store helped me set it up (move everything from my p.c. to the Mac. To set up iPhoto, I used my original Apple ID which is now unusable due to changing my email address. I kept the password the same so I could always get into it but it won't work now.
Most of the apps I bought on my original apple id I have deleted since I cannot update them. Now that I have to update iPhoto and can't, I am worried. If I delete iPhoto to buy again on my 5 year old "new" Apple ID, will I lose all my pictures, videos, etc?
What is the work around for this? Losing my pictures is not an option but if I cannot use iPhoto due to upgrading to Yosemite, then what?

First, try the new password. If you didn't sign out of iCloud prior to changing the primary email address of your Apple ID, this is what can cause this problem.

HELP! Deleted iPhoto and iTunes Libraries by changing name?!?!?

Hey guys,
My friend had two user accounts on his Mac. One was "Chris" and one was "Katie". The only one that was ever used was "Chris". Since his wife used the Mac a lot more than he did he thought it would be funny to change the user name from "Chris" to "Katie's Big Mac". The short name was not changed at all. He then deleted "Katie". I guess that deleted all the iPhoto and iTunes Libraries. But that was it.
Does any one know why it did this? I told her to look under Users: Chris: Music: iTunes: iTunes Music: and all of the old files were there. She dragged one of the files over and dropped it in iTunes to copy it over and then she went back to get more and they all disappeared from the folder iTunes Music. I didn't tell her to do this she did it on her own.
The iPhoto Library is totally empty though. Does anyone know why this happened and how to fix it?

Okay it's fixed now. All he did was change the old names back to the way they were, recreate "Katie", and it all came back. He had to reload the libraries for iPhoto and iTunes but that was it. All other prefs are fine. But the weird part is that now the files that were in Chris are now in Katie. Thanks for your help.

Accidentally deleted Iphoto and Imovie

I know it sounds hard to do, but I did it nonetheless and deleted both Iphoto and I movie from my macbook. I had to do an archive and install and copied a newer version of both from the external hard drive that i took out and replaced since it was damaged but readable.
I imported the libraries and since it was a newer version (updated) than the o/s architecture from the re-install I thought I could delete and reinstall just those apps.
However I am having a hard time finding a way to bring in the earlier versions of iphoto. I just find updates or versions that won't take to leopard.
Is there a way I can find and download these apps that will work with Leopard, without re-formatting and doing a clean re-install of the whole o/s?
Any info would surely be appreciated.

Accidently Deleted Iphoto and Imovie

I accidently deleted Imovie and Iphoto. I tried to redown load it with the disk's that come with the computer and with the Snow Leopard disk but no where does it give me the option of those two..... am I doing something wrong? HELP!!!

Yes. It should have taken you about two minutes to restore those files from one of your backups. If you don't have backups, shut down the computer now and don't start it again until you have an external hard drive and are ready to start backing up. If you need help setting that up, please start a new topic. If you don't back up, you'll inevitably lose all your data, and nobody will be able to help you.

Accidentally delete iPhoto and now left with blank photos and blank events

I have accidentally deleted iPhoto app and now i am left with blank photos and blank events in my iphoto.
I tried eveything. Ranging from removing the pplist, installing, Iphoto Library manager but it seems to get worse.
i have the original package content
and this is how my iphoto library icon looks like.
And when i try to drop my original content package into the new iphoto, it will show an error message.
Kindly tell me what else can i do?

Outside chance: try recover the deleted files with an (expensive) app like File Salvage
Other than that, no hope.

IPhoto and Powerpoint Resolution issues

I'm currently making a book for a recent trip and I wanted to design my own pages versus using the defaults in iPhoto. I designed my own page using powerpoint and sent it to iphoto. When I put the picture on the page in iPhoto it shows the low resolution warning. The photos were taken in 8 megapixel, but the powerpoint slides show in iPhoto as 720 x 540. Does anyone know how to convert powerpoint slides in higher resolution? Did I miss something?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Go into PP's slide sorter mode, select all of the slides and start a print job of them. Once in the Print window select the PDF->Send PDF to iPhoto option. That will produce a 2200 x 1700 pixel jpg file for each slide in the presentation and import it into iPhoto. You can then use those images for your pages.
If you would like a larger dimension file for each slides edit the Send PDF to iPhoto workflow with Automator and change the 200 dpi to 300 dpi. You can find that workflow in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder.
Tutorial #6 describes how it's done with an iPhoto book so that you can make a iDVD slideshow or web page slideshow. It's the same process. This is the result of the web slideshow of a book.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Iphoto and Powerpoint

Would appreciate it if any one can help. My daughter has just got back from doing a presentation at school. She cant use Pages as the school PC systems just cant read it. She created in Powerpoint and imported photos from Facebook and iphoto by using drag and drop. When she got to school the presentation worked, but all the photos had "You need Quicktime decompressor to view this photo" any idea why or how this can be corrected? Thanks

In addition to Larry's suggestion consider this…
after she's done creating the presentation in Power Point, she could also just export it as a PDF via *Print > Save as PDF…*
PDF is a very compatible format and can usually be viewed anywhere. To present a PDF full-screen simply do the following:
1) in Preview on the Mac press Command (Apple) + Shif + F
2) in Adobe Reader press Command (PC: CTRL) + L
Advance by pressing the arrow keys. For simple, static slides this is in my experience the most trouble-free method and it avoids the problems you mentioned as well as the need to resave every image in a different format.

If you purchased it on the App Store, then look in the Purchases page in App Store.

I installed Mountain Lion from Apple and wish to delete iPhoto and re- install iPhoto. How do I do it please

Having trouble trying to upload a book from iPhoto so wonder if I can delete and re-install iPhoto . I have no installation disc as Mountain Lion was downloaded direct from Apple. Thanks

Both partitions should be visible in Mountain Lion. What I did on my wife's computer was select the Snow Leopard partition, select iPhoto in the Snow Leopard Applications folder, and copy iPhoto to the Mountain Lion Application folder (drag and drop). I then ran Software Update and was able to download a newer version. If I remember correctly, I had to run Software Update twice to get the newest version.
If you have the iLife 11 disc, you can install iPhoto on Mountain Lion and then update the program as I typed above. That is how I got iPhoto on my computer.
I never had to pay as long as I was able to get an older version of iPhoto in the Mountain Lion Application.
I hope this helps. Computer frustration is not one of my favorite things.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.
But are you sure that's the problem? This is often a Library rather than an app issue. Can you opn a new blank Library?
As a Test: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
